You may have to install this one.

let me know what happens.

I assume you used the 3 click method?
I had the same issue... if you read the fine print on that method it tells you to immediately flash a fully rooted Rom as the pc361 img file has issues with permissions....
The easy fix for me was to visit unrevoked.com to obtain temporary root to allow you to flash a fully rooted rom then
download ROM Manager from the marketplace... I personally ended up with Damage's Rom but tried Fresh as well and was pleased... went with damage for the more stock aspect....

I am getting the same thing, i tried the other app you suggested and still the same results

i did the same thing you did and got this error until i flashed the signed superuser whitelist app, then it worked perfectly
it's called:
su-2.1-e-unsecure-signed.zip
and u can get it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7034064&postcount=1
flash it from recovery

I did the unrevoked deal and it worked for wifi tether.

Hello,
I am having real problems with my phone. I was trying to root the phone and I am stuck. I have S=off on the HBOOT screen, android version 2.2, software version 1.14.531.1.
I am not able to perform Visionary temp root, can't load clockwork recovery, and can't install Busybox. When I try SU within terminal, I get the error "must be suid to work properly".
When I try to install Busybox, I get the error "The application failed either becasue you device is not NAND unlocked or we were unable to remount".
I cant install ClockWork recovery..I get the error "an error occured while trying to run privilidged commands"
I have tried everything which is probably why I am stuck. I tried to force the update to 2.2.1 but won't work. The phone goes thru the motions of updating boot, radio, etc...However, still the same results are its done. THe phone stays on 2.2.
I have tried doing all of the root methods avail: Using Visonary, rage, etc... None of them will work.
Can anybody offer me advice to get root back so I can 1. install a recovery and then install another rom? I need a way to basically put the phone back to factory installed software and start fresh.
Try this worked perfectly for me. also make sure you have ADB installed and working properly before attempting root.

if you want to go back to stock follow the downgrade thread (linked in the thread about forcing the update) then follow the one linked above me here... it's faster than my forcing the update method (once you get radio s-off and the eng boot loader you can actually just flash the update.zip from my thread....)
EDIT: and in the future please post in the proper section or reply in the thread of the guide you're having problems with.
Thank you for trying to quickly help me. I started to follow the instrucions for downgrading and got stuck at the ADB Shell command. Within the Shell, I typed SU and got the following error "must be usid to work properly". Can you please offer any advice to get around this error?
Thanks,
Lance
to be suid you have to have temp or full root access. my sugestion would be to start the process from scratch. have you tried the visionary method?
i cant post the link to the other forum but its readily availible if you google it.
i didnt see the download link in the site i found so if you need the file PM me your email and ill send it back to you
Hello,
Yes, I did try Visonary and will not get SU working. The S=off is already showing. However, no matter what I do, I can't get SU to work. The device appears to be rooted but won't allow any advanced permisson comands to be used such as SU. I have tried re-installing superuser. that didn't help either.
launch the current version of SU you have on your phone and select settings scroll to the bottom of the page and under "superuser Information" you should see "Su binary Vx.x.x-xx) what is the version #?
Click on that and see if it updates the version if it does update try rebooting launch terminal and retry SU
Hello,
I checked the version of SU and did find there is an update. I tried to install and got the followng error 'An error occured and su was not updated. a zip file has been placed on your sdcard. please reboot into recovery and flash it".
The problem is that I can't get into recovery as I get the red exlimation mark. I can't find a way to install a recovery program because of permission issues.
Any further suggestions?
Please post questions in Q&A section.
Aren't you suppose to be on 2.2.1 before you start any rooting. Op=reading fail!

How in the first place you get the s=off. In order to get s-off you need root! Is also known that to boot into recovery thou need to try several times before its locks! The better way to deal woth it is reading! The root method in the dev section help a lot! Read, read! That's the better way to learn! If you are in eng hboot and s= off there's a possibility that you only need to reboot into recovery several times! Other than that just read with patience!

My advice (without trying to hurt feelings too much) is DON'T ROOT. You obviously don't really know your way around Android too well at this point. I would familiarize yourself with everything before diving in head first.
Despite popular belief, having root does NOT in fact make you cooler.
WAAAY too many new users are trying to root because they think it's cool or heard it's cool. You need to learn your device first.

EDIT: or AIM, or yahoo, msn, or gtalk.... my info is in my profile
If you have S=Off on your phone already, your best bet would be to flash Clockwork recovery through FASTBOOT.
If you are unsure of how to do this, refer to this link from the Cyanogen Wiki:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Fastboot
The page will point you in the right direction for everything that you need.
Have the ROM that you want to install on your SD Card because FASTBOOT will probably not allow you to directly flash all the other partitions, but it will at least allow you to flash recovery, then boot into Clockwork and Install a new ROM.

[Q] Noob questions on Droid x from a former WinMo user

How do I know if my phone successfully rooted? I see lots of posts about using z4root to root (I want to use wireless like I did on my TouchPro2) but no one really says where to look to see if it's actually rooted. I ran z4 "temporary" and got the message that I was rooted til my next reboot but the wireless tether program doesn't start - I get an error message. Do I need to be permanently rooted for this to work? When I reinstalled my wireless tether program, it told me that I was NOT rooted, even though z4 thinks I am.
I received the OTA update so I am on stock 2.2.1 on a 2-week-old Droid X that I really want to like but.... I need tethering (preferably wireless) on a regular basis and I just can't get it to work. PDAnet won't install on my PC and the help from june fabrics was not helpful, so that is not an option. Using the multi-step turn radio on/off, etc. didn't seem to work either.
Any help would be most appreciated as I seem to be stuck in a bad loop.
Use z4root to permanently root.

Easy way to check is download android terminal emulator free from the market. Open it and type "su" (without the quotes) and hit enter. If the $ sign changes to #, you're rooted.

get a tool called "Root Explorer" Your gonna need it anyways also Koush "Recovery bootstrapper" you NEED this also.
Once installed see if they work. If not your not rooted .
Use Z4root to root as suggested from the other posters.
So apparently my problem was that I was only using the "temporary" option from z4root, not the "permanent". Thanks also for the advice on the other apps I need - once installed, I was able to figure out that I was not rooted until I used the "permanent" option.

Can't boot into recovery

OK so my evos software is fully up to date, 3.70.651.1, I tried using the Z4root rooting method that basically works on anything running froyo but i've hit a snag. This app gives you the option to temporarily root of permanently root your phone. The permanent option doesn't work, just restarts the phkne. The temporary option does work though, I've run Cachecleaner and rom manager and have successfully flashed both clockworkmod and Ra recoveries. My issue is this, when I either manually try to reboot to recovery or use the option to within rom manager, all I get is the phone symbol and a red triangle with an exclamation point. Despite successful flashing of the recovery menu, I can't actually get to it. Any help would be appreciated.

I dunno about all of that, but based off your description of temporary and permanent roots, sounds like you did a temporary root without NAND unlock and correct me if i'm wrong, you can't flash a recovery without a nand unlock?

correct, need nand unlocked to flash a rom, z4 doesn't unlock nand, unrevoked does, and the adb method does as well
I don't think there is a successful root yet for 3.7, is there? Not a simple one like urevokEd

[Q] Lost root after verizon update

So I installed the Verizon OTA update and now I seem to have lost root. I was rooted via Z4. Now when I click root, it just vibrates and nothing happens. I cant use rooted apps any more. The Superuser app is still present, though it doesnt do anything. Can I just do the oneclick root over the Z4? I really don't want to ruin the tab. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
* I am running stock rom.
Thanks
After any ROM update root has to be lost. On new ROMs z4root does not work, that is right. Try to find SuperOneClickv1.7_ShortFuse - it really works with latest updates. Put the package on your C:\ disk. Run executable with administrator rights, otherwise it will not work out. If you have any anti-virus running on PC - stop it before copying the package to disk, otherwise it will immediately kill one of the files in package (this one is not a virus!).
Hope this helps.

I also applied that update and lost root. z4root wouldn't work anymore, SuperOneClick did the trick! Thanks for the help!

Qman, thanks for you help. I did simply run the onerootclick app and it worked perfectly!
Hmm. Turned on USB debugging, ran SuperOneClick as admin but getting stuck as "Waiting for device......"

Did your PC detect the tab? Are drivers installed? Other people did this trick smoothly.

Funny you should mention that. Every other time, my pc would see it immediately. This time it isn't seeing it all.

It is not so funny, many people just are trying rooting without drivers... Please see some details here, it may help probably
Where do I get the drivers and how do I install? I found SuperOneClick1.8ShortFuseDrivers but I'm not sure if that's it and how to install if it is.
Thanks.
It took a while but I finally found the drivers and was able to root successfully. However Titanium backup still says it can't get root access....
EDIT: I had debugging off. Works now.
I have been putting off doing the VGT update for fear of having to reroot or something else going wrong but I got sick of that pop up so I said what the hell and went for it. . . .
And I still have root. . .
But I am running just about stock everything, I have not found or seen any good reason to run a custom rom yet.
Now it there was a way to run CM7 I would love that!! I have that on my Evo and love how fast my phone is.
But to the point. . . Are we all getting the same update? Again I just did it and I have not lost root.

THANKS!!!! Worked like a charm.
I was previously rooted with Z4. I installed the "mandatory" Verizon update and of course lost root, Z4 and Superuser no longer worked. Found your post, tried it on my XP SP3 machine with no luck, kept coming up with daemon not running or something like that. Just now tried it on a Vista machine and it worked flawlessly. I did have to reboot for it to work, did not see that mentioned anywhere here, but after a reboot my apps that require rooting are once again working.

It is not mentioned because it is considered to be done "by default" - after any system update a tablet must be rebooted...

Note 3 DCNO Prod Test Help

Okay, so I have this phone and the info attached to the imei DCNO Prod Test phone. It has the following build listed N900VVREBMJ5 test-keys. I checked for root access with a app and it didn't have root access. I tried to root with odin3 root_de_la etc and it came up with an error and was basically soft bricked. Was able to reload the pit file and eventually get it working again. I clearly don't know what I'm doing and bought this phone online and have learned very little since last night. It loads up with the custom logo etc etc. I'm looking load a regular stock rom onto or just a custom one, but no matter what I do I get an error.. Can anybody help.. thanks
Use kingo root.... Google it. It works on all of the builds for n900v.

as stated on the general tab, the most important thing is to check if secureboot is enabled first!!! Turn phone off, turn on holding power, home, volume down and check to see if it say secureboot enabled. If it says disabled you might be famous
