**EDIT** Nevermind I found a way to theme the milestone like a DroidX @ android-hlife **EDIT**
Hi guys,
I suppose everyone knows about the Droid X dump circulating around.
Is it possible to install the MediaGallery.apk from Droid X? I've tried doing the "normal" install from the .apk but it fails.
Putting the .apk file in /system/app with rw and installing yields similar results.
When I looked at the frameworks (of X's system dump), I don't see any com.motorola.aui.jar files (assuming it works the same way as before) hence i did not dare to move any other files.
I'm not brave enough.
Any advice on what should be right way to do it? (assuming the Gallery is actually different and worth the "upgrade")

can you send me the file? i would like to try some attempts...
i jsut copied the file to my sdcard and installed it via root explorer...worked like a charm...is the file you have themed?

you installed the HTC news widget right on the phone? the one i tried wouldn't install.
i got the NewsReader.apk installed and opened...now trying to figure out how to get the widget...
anywho, i successfully modified and then pushed the modified News and Weather (GenieWidget) onto the phone. i themed it to match my FeedR widget.
tried to post a screen cap but it's not letting me. something about being a new member.
i have the widget.apk, but not the NewsReader.apk. maybe that's why it's not working. we need to share files. lol
here is the link for the newsreader.apk

the app itself does nothing but force close for me. are you getting the same result?
do we maybe also need the odex file?
i was just going to say that....i am going to check...but the rom that i have is deodexed...do you have odex files?

i do not have the odex files. i'm giving up for now. lol hopefully somebody can figure it out. i'm good with my skinned geniewidget for now.
You say your rom is deodexed... you're running a fully deodexed rom on DI? Did you build this yourself, or...?
I have some ideas for the news widget, but I'd like to see newsreader working first.
Thanks!
I posted progress..
I posted progress on the same thread in the apps section. I rooted and pulled de-odexed files from an evo build and pushed them to the system/app/ directory, i then cleared the data in HTC Sense app and the widget and icon showed up. The problem is that they force close. You need 3 files
RSS.apk
NewsReader.apk
com.htc.NewsReaderWidget.apk
I don't think it will make any difference to use odex'd files. Usually it is better to have de-odex'd files to install. The files must be on /system/app/ directory in order to even show up and launch. I hope that a dev is able to take a better look at the androidmanifest.xml in the app or use logcat to see what the hell is going on.
If you want to write to the /system/app/ directory,
su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
mv /sdcard/RSS.apk /system/app/RSS.apk
(etc...)
then applications-->manage-->HTC Sense -->clear data...
But again, FC's will occur until someone is able to look at the manifest and alter it. I looked at the MinSDK for this app and it is the same as the DInc, otherwise I would've changed that part with a Hex editor myself.
Hope someone is able to do this, we would all be one step closer to a smaller Evo, lol. (I really don't like holding a "kindle" to my ear anyways, lol!)
Red.
what errors do you get that cause the force closures? (logcat from adb)
Updating the manifest files isn't hard, but requires resigning... did you need to resign the evo files after deodexing?

I didn't need to resign because the .apk files I pulled were from a build that was de-odex'd in the "Evo Android Development" Section. Root Explorer recognizes the files right away, but because they need to be system files, they can't be installed like other apps. I don't have a logcat because I really don't dev too much, but would be thrilled if others tried this.

I see in one of the other forums that on EVO you can modify the hosts file out of the box.
This seems strange, but far be it for me to call someone a liar. Is it possible on DX too? I get a read-only error.
Rooted Droid 2 with Froyo 2.2 and 2.3.20 system update and am trying to recover a Verizon bloatware app I removed with Titanium Backup. Installing it from Amazon Marketplace won't do the trick.
I rooted my Droid 2 using Doroot, installed Titanium Backup and proceeded to stupidly uninstall the Skype bloatware that Verizon and Motorola so thoughtfully put on all our Droids.
Only later on did I learn that in order to receive OTA system and OS updates, one must have all bloatware present and accounted for in the /system/apps folder.
Can I use the skype_mobile.live.apk file that I downloaded in a Droid X backup file, or does the Droid 2 use a different version? If I can't use the Droid X Skype file, does anyone know where I can get the Droid 2 Skype file?
I'd like to be able to restore it without wiping the phone and reinstalling everything if possible.
And yes, I have learned my lesson about impulsively uninstalling apps that come with phones, even annoying ones.
Thank you for any help.
the droid x one is probably the same, but here's the droid 2 one. http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-2-hacks/86628-source-droid-2-apks.html#post885381
or
you can use this one http://www.droidforums.net/forum/xeudoxus/78843-apks-unlocked-apps.html
next time you want to uninstall a system app, just open Root Explorer and rename the file to *.bak. Changing the file extension like that will make it unrecognized so it will be uninstalled. Then, if you ever want it back, just change it back to *.apk
Thanks for the link and advice. I still need to get my hands on Root Explorer so I can restore Skype to the /system/apps folder and set its file properties to default.
Then I can get Gingerbread OTA.

gingerbread ota? who, what, when, where, how? lol. you know something we dont?
Whenever it comes out. I'm just thinking ahead. It could come out any day and I want to be able to get it right away.
How do you get your phone carrier and nation flag under your user name? I nosed around in my User CP and couldn't find any options to add those.
Just click on your user name in the top right corner. Then put in your carrier and pick your home country

Okay, I know some people think it's redundant to Have backups of my contacts in both Google AND Verizon Backup Assistant, but I'm OCD and like having backups of everything. Also, at some point in time in the future I may not have an Android phone (God forbid) and I would need Verizon Backup Assistant to port all my contacts over to my new phone. Anyway, I'm running Liberty 1.5 which doesn't have BA. I have a folder on my SD card where I've saved all the stock Droid X apps, so I went there and copied both the apk and odex files to system/app and I changed the permissions to rw-r-r. Then I rebooted hoping that it would work, but it didn't. I did a bit of Google searching and found out that BA needs additional Blur components to run. Obviously I have those too, but I don't know which Blur components I need to install to make BA run. Does anyone know the Blur files I need to install in order for Liberty 1.5 to run Backup Assistant? Thanks in advance!
i believe its buacontactadapter.apk
I tried copying the apk and odex for that just now in addition to the backup assistant apk and odex (and I still changed the permissions to rw-r-r). It still didn't work. Do you think there are more files I need to copy? Or is blur stuff just NOT compatible with Liberty 1.5?

It is designed to be blurless. However, if you keep installing files you may get it to work. Also, when you are in /system/app mount it as rw and install the app. You may have to do that as well
So you're saying I need to just keep randomly installing blur files and hope for the best? I'd rather not. I'm hoping someone knows exactly what files to install. Anyone?

So I was looking around some forum and found a droid x bootanimation with sound.
I pushed the mp3 file (maybe the bootanimation.zip navigated to the .mp3? I don't want that bootanimation though) and it doesn't appear to have done anything.
So I tried some other methods:
In terminal emulator...
I ran allinone
under boot properties I found a boot sound enabler.
It says it enables bootup.ogg from system/media/audio or something.
Whatever it was...I pulled the droid.ogg
Renamed it to bootup.ogg and pushed it to the correct area.
Rebooting doesn't appear to give me any sound.
Sad day.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
I then found some bootanimation file that supposedly links your Droid X to play a boot sound. I pushed that after making a hasty backup of the original. Then realized the file wasn't for gingerbread...and repushed the original back (I think I may have deleted the original and pushed the same file back again). After this step I have no bootanimation.
Does anyone have the stock bootanimation file from system/bin and can you upload?
Since my bootanimation is broken...this last try may be a futile attempt.
But just now I used this
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/dr...tml#post266035
as a reference
Unzipped the default liberty bootanimation.zip and edited desc.txt by adding a "s droid.ogg" line.
Rezipped (the proper way without compression).
No go.
Then used liberty toolbox to try and flash the original liberty bootanimation.zip back (in case jrummy is using some method I'm not, rather than pushing it there myself) and I'm still without a bootanimation.
I'm sure I can fix the missing bootanimation eventually...
But the bootanimation file from system/bin would be nice if you have it handy.
Or if you know what else I can do to restore it.
But mainly...any idea how to get sound working?!
I'm going to bed at the moment...too tired and I work tonight.
Thanks in advance!
P.S.
I know there is an SD notification that many are confusing with the bootup sound. This just seems to be an alternative that should keep the "drrrooooiiid" sound as default...if my thinking is correct.
