I was planning on rooting a new (but used) HTC magic I will be buying tomorrow (Rogers canada) and installing the supereclair rom from cyanogen (5.0.8), but I saw a video with the droid eris sense 2.1 rom running on an HTC magic. The sense interface looks nice.
Is there a way to install both? Do I install the cyanogen 5.0.8 supereclair rom, and then is the droid eris sense interface something I can install on top of it and turn on/off?
I've been searching for this but have yet to find anything other than video's showing it running.
Thanks!

So in other words you want to switch between CM 5.0.8 and a Sense UI rom?
The only way that you can do it is by using a custom recovery such as amon_ra 1.7.0 and do a nandroid backup, wipe EVERYTHING (and I do mean everything), install the other rom, do a nandroid backup of the other rom, then do a nandroid restore of the previous rom to go back. There is no easier way and it can be risky because if anything interrupts the process it could mess something up. If your sdcard becomes corrupted then everything is lost. My advice? Find one that you like and stick with it. But what do I know?
The cyanogen mod should run faster and more smooth than the sense UI, is that correct?
I'll probably just stick with cyanogen and wait until CM6 comes out.

That is correct as long as you do not use swap.

i'm not really a noob but noob to the Legend, i used to have Xperia X10 and HTC HD2 and it was easy to root and installing ROMs
now i have this Legendary Legend and i want to root it and install different ROMs i'm currently running 2.2, radio-7.13.35.05, and on the boot it says
LEGEND PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.01.0000
MICROP-0816
TOUCH PANEL-SYN07_0105
i've been reading the stickies foe awhile but i didnt know what is the difference between S-ON and OFF and if 2.2 is rootable or i have to downgrade to 2.1 and if i have to root this HBOOT thing!! actually i'm lost!! one last thing what is the best ROM for Legend? is there 2.3 or CM7 out for it?
P.S. excuse my poor english
why did you post 2 same thread???
maybe it's a forum lagg, and it was like "double posting"
It looks like you're in the same situation I was! Here's how I rooted, in laymans terms.
1. Turned my SD card into a goldcard.
2. Flashed a pre-rooted 2.1 ROM using the stock recovery method.
3. Downloaded CM6.1, placed it on my memory card.
4. Did a little messing around with ROM Manager, ended up doing the stuff I explained in this thread instead which worked just fine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=962357
5. Flashed CM6.1 (which was buggy as hell).
6. Downloaded blay0's ROM, placed it on my memory card.
7. Repeated step 4 and flashed blay0's ROM.
Please note that blay0's ROM is 2.2 and not 2.3.
In regards to ROMs, personally I love blay0's b 0.7 ROM, it runs like a dream. It's not too far away from the Sense UI and it isn't buggy as hell for me like CM6.1 is... Haven't tried CM7 yet so I can't say, but TheGrammarFreak (a respected regular here) shows praise for it.

Yes, but the good news is that none of the rom (legit or custom) has it as well.

What about the Lite version of Flash which HTC ship with the Legend? If that's still present I might just switch to CM7.

It isn't.
CM can't legally include it because they don't have a licence to redistribute it, don't want to since they don't have access to the source, and even if they could and wanted to, it probably requires the sense framework, so technically it would still be somewhere between "impossible" and "damn inconvenient".
If you use Rom Manager it can install CM7 its pretty good for me my last rom was b0.5 which was great but im loving CM7 way more
If you really want 2.3 use CM7 - it's still beta but it's very stable and does everything I ask it to do, if you want a stock(ish) 2.2 then Blay0's ROM is sweet.
yep, I would also recommend cm7. and it's only partly true that it has no flash - I downloaded it from applanet and works perfectly fine with embedded youtube videos and ads (although I don't want the latter)
CM7 works great. Why do you need flash lite? I haven't missed it once when I owned an iPhone and I haven't missed it in CM7, nor did I use it with the stock rom. Youtube works anyway and if you must, Skyfire plays most flash videos fine as well.
Hi there, HTC Magic user here.
I've gone back to stock ROMs for a bit but lately I've been wanting to go back to a rooted phone.
My previous experience with Cyanogenmod 5 and 6 has been terrible, the phone ran slow and even completely stock there would be either launcher restarts after running even the messaging app or app force closes if the launcher was kept in memory. The only ROM's that worked well were 1.6 based ones but of the three that most people use, they all have problems which make them difficult to use in the long run.
tl;dr What ROM's are you using with your 32B Magic and what optimisations do you do to stop lag and memory overflows happening?
Ezgingerbread (link in my sig) is what I usually use. Its pretty light and fast.
If you want as many cm features as possible while still having some speed try cos-ds.
If you really like cm features, there's greenromproject cm7 or anotger cm7 rom who's name I can't remember. I haven't used those yet so I can't say anything about speed there.
And these are all gingerbread roms. Idk what to suggest for other versions.. I got into android right before cm6.1

Nope. There are gingerbread roms for every radio. If you are talking about the 2708+ radio then I would recommended it for the extra ram
I'm currently running Ginger Yoshi 1.2 and love it. I've used CM 5.0.8, CM6, Ginger Yoshi 1.1 and now 1.2. All have worked great on my phone. The one thing for me is that I wipe everything...everytime. To include my SD card manually. I save my files on my computer and put them back after I load up the ROM.

Search is your friend
If your phone is rooted you could always get Rom Manager Free from the Market and get the rom of your choice. I use CyanogenMod-6.0.0-DS and the phone runs great. It's actually the only ROM my phone has been able to handle fully with no issues. OS 2.2 is the highest I would put on the MT3G. I've tried Yoshi's, EzTerry, Greenrom, etc.. and all either had issues or just wouldn't work.
Search in this forum, RC Magic V7, SFM 1.2 sense 2.1 (Its great recomended), or clean magic (Fast). All whit htc sense! I tested all and work greats!

Have used both SFM 1.2 and Clean Magic 5.01. Would highly recommend either of them. The new lock screen in SFM 1.2 is very cool though

I've tried biffmod, gingeryoshi and few others before them, unfortunately each left me wanting to try another rom. Now I'm on froyobylaszlo I simply don't have that yearning for another rom anymore, and I suppose that says it all. I think I made a couple of tweaks but nothing major(can't remember though!) and it runs great, very smooth and fast.
Only issue I have is running speedtest, where it reboots occasionally.

Thanks for that, but they're both 32A ROMs.
My phone is the 32B and only has 192mb of RAM so I don't think they'd run

It's been a while since I have messed with Root on my phone since putting on Iced Glacier 1.6 for 2.2.1 Android for my MyTouch 4G.
So I need a little help or clarification.
Following this post directions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175536
I updated to the 2.3.4 ROM and for some reason occasionally get the phone showing the "MyTouch" white screen after exiting an app.
Also get "MySense" failed to load or forceclosed when starting up the phone. I think that is what it says...
I re-installed my apps using Titanium Backup, but I think I am missing a few even though I made a full App and System back up the night before doing any of this new ROM rooting. I also did a "Fix Permissions" in ROM Manager.
1: Is Footballs the most basic stable rooted ROM out right now?
Or what is recommended for battery length and smoothness?
2: How does Virtuous Unity compare in stability and speed and battery life compared to other ROMs right now?
I liked Iced Glacier for it's baseness and speed and lack of bloat-ware and I don't change ROMs often. I want one that works and is stable and I want to stick to it.
Not wanting to brick my phone moving to new stuff.
My other big question is:
After installing Footballs Rooted ROM, I still get the 2.3.4 OTA update reminder.
How do I remove that ????
And yes I did a lot of searching before posting this in order to refresh my brain but could not find a precise answer...
So thank you to anyone that can help with these questions and steer me in the right direction.......
I run virtuous unity on one of my my touch 4gas and it is stable and all functions work including tango,,, love the fact there is no bloatware.

It all depends on what you like actually. For a stable rom that you will stick with for awhile that is just like the update to 2.3.4 without the bloat. I would recommend GenerationX v5, its the most up to date rooted/debloated stock version. If you like sense, but not mysense. They Virtuous Unity 1.29 seems to be the favorite stable right now. Keep in mine there are AOSP roms out there like faux's and cm7 that people enjoy as well which are excellent speeds and awesome battery life over stock type roms.

Thanks for the replies so far.
I'm honestly not sure what the difference between Sense and MySense is since I don't keep up with this stuff anymore.
And if I flash one of the ROMs I of course need to make a full wipe and then install. will this erase the homepage icons and need to re-install all my apps again ?
Like i said before i'm not looking for flashy themes, just no issues & good battery life & speedy response when doing things on the phone.
Thanks again for the help....
Are the bugs fixed already? Or is there a custom UI that works better?

Not sure what you're asking... Are you looking for the "best" 2.3.4 HTC Sense build? HTC Sense isn't something you add ontop of any G2 ROM, if you want Sense, its going to be a 2.3.4 Sense Desire Z ROM you want...
As mentioned, Sense is part of the ROM, you can't install it alongside your present ROM. You have to flash a ROM that has Sense, and it will completely overwrite your present ROM. So your present ROM Android version doesn't matter.
"Works well" is subjective. Sense 2.x is faster and less memory intensive. Sense 3.0 (Virtuous Unity) works very well, and has some great features. But it takes lots of memory, so sometimes the launcher and other memory hungry apps will fight for the available memory, and boot each other out. But apparently, there are tweaks to improve this (which I haven't personally tried). There are also hybrids of 2.x and 3.0, like InsertCoin.
Thank you very much for the replies. So, how and where do I get the 2.3.4 Sense Desire Z ROM? And how do I install it? I read somewhere that there's some glitch on some ROM like the landscape or WiFi or Bluetooth doesn't work. Is this ROM affected? I'm sorry about the 21Q guys but I'm really a noob.
You can try virtuous sense 2.0. Built based on stock sense 2.3.4 with a few tweaks and improvements

Ok guys, so I found this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186458 and downloaded myVision, Cyanogen's development tools and Cyanogen DSPManager. What do I do with the 2 Cyanogen files? I know I have to transfer myVision from my PC to the root of my phone's SD card and do the Power and Volume Up thing to boot.
I really like how the phone looks on this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XfYD8rUTE0. Will this work with ver. 2.3.4? Or do I have to downgrade first?
I installed Nand Android Nexus Gingerbread 2.3.5 on my HTC HD2 and tried to load sense 3.0 but get a kernal error message. I use DFT and the MADLDR with Clockwork recovery. I'm a noob and need some suggestions on how to fix. Thanks.
Sense was not cooked into the build you are running. Manually loading Sense is possible, but most of the time, it will result in a buggy build. Manually loading Sense 2.3 was more successful with the Android Builds, but its harder to get Sense 3.5 working on your own, unless, you are familiar with debugging and advanced troubleshooting. It is possible, but it will take some time. The best measure is to install a cooked Sense 3.5 build. Or if you really want to stick with your current build and have a 'Sense' like UI, you might wanna try LP Sense UI with Launcher Pro or the sense theme for Go Launcher.
Noob question: Is sense basically the HTC version of Android? Coming from the WM 6.5 I like Android better, but miss the HTC Sense that was originally on the phone.

In essence you are correct, Sense and Android are the same thing, just like WM6.5 & Sense are the same thing, it's just a skin layered over the stock OS. HTC has added features and changed some things of course but overall that's what it boils down to.
As said, you can not just load Sense onto a stock Android rom, you will need to flash a Sense rom to achieve that.
For noob clarification: If I back up my apps and other things, and remove gingerbread 2.3.5, I can flash Sense 3.0 or 3.5 using MADLDR with Clockword recovery and it will be an android again? Should I clear the cache before flashing Sense? How do I check what radio I have? Thanks for all of your help.

If u back it up with titanium backup, there shouldn't be any problems as both are nand builds.u can clear the cache, but it is not compulsory.to check the radio,u should power on your phone while holding the down volume button.
