Issue with Rogers and voicemail, caller name, and a usb question - XPERIA X10 General

I rooted my phone as soon as I got it so I don't know how the original Rogers firmware handled these 2 issues.
So on my old phone (k850i) whenever I had an unread voicemail, it would flash an icon on the status bar to let me know that I had a new voicemail and when I checked all new voicemails, the icon would go away. This phone was unbranded on some O2 firmware but still locked to Rogers.
Is there any way to get this functionality on the X10a? I am assuming it is something that Rogers sends to your phone and the phone displays the icon.
Also I have Caller name along with caller Id, but the caller name does not show up?
Lastly is there any setting so that when I connect my usb it automatically mounts the sd card? Right now I have to go in notifications and then tell it to mount.
Thanks guys

Hold down 1 on your dialer and make certain that your voicemail is actually set up. The last time I made a change to my plan I had to set up my voicemail again.

The name won't show up unless it's in your contact list.

Google Voice push sms and voicemail after app update.

After the Google voice app update I have no setting for refreshing every 30 mins or so. Has anybody notice?
Very cool, looks like voice is moving along nicely.
Come on VOIP!
Other forum alerted me to the update. Glad it finally got push in. Now I can turn off email notifications.
so do we have to manually install google voice (or any other preloaded apps) so that they can get auto-updates from market?
The default on the updated app seems to be disabled notifications for some reason... anyone know why?

Because you no longer update by a time schedule anymore. It's all strictly push now.

Right... but the box to "Synchronize the Inbox" was unchecked. I checked the box, which also turned the notifications back on. I used my gf's phone to leave a test vmail, and it instantly notified me.
Are you saying that leaving the box unchecked will still push the notification automatically? I thought that we had to enable synching the inbox...

No, I'm saying it was turned off because the old sync no longer applies and perhaps some people don't want push.

Ah... ok, that makes sense. So I was right to check that box then.
Sorry i dont mean to Hijack the thread but I figured i'd ask here instead of creating a new thread. Can some one help me out with setting GV up, I have my number and all I just cant get GV to replace my T-mo voicemail.
I have tried all of the setting online and when I call my GV number. Any help would be appreciated.

No problem... just be aware that if you reboot the phone you need to go back into those settings and change it again. I don't know if the new update has fixed that little issue, as I suspect it's not with the GV app, but with the software on the phone itself. Hopefully it will be fixed soon though...
Any word or clue to whether or not Google Voice will ever implement picture messaging ?
So I've synced my Inbox, have all my notifications set-up, rebooted my phone, and am still not receiving ANY notifications for TXT messages...Anyone have any idea what might cause this? It's a bit frustrating blah, especially since I use GV text for a side business
I don't get the VM notification emails anymore, but I still get that blasted second txt msg whenever someone sends me a GV sms =/

That will happen, but if you scroll down further that in Call Settings and tap Call Forwarding settings, you'll see it's going to your GV number. The voicemail option just changes where your calls get forwarded to for voicemail.

It also changes what number is dialed when you hit the voicemail icon in the dialer. Try rebooting your phone and clicking the vmail icon... it will automatically default to the Carrier. You have to change it manually in Call Settings as I described for the dialer to revert to GV for vmail.

Uninstall the update. When you re-install after the sign part there is the option to setup for voicemail.

Ah, well I never use it because what's the point with Google Voice. I can see them and listen to them on the app without having to dial in and waste minutes.

Name Display for call display??

Are there any ICS roms out there that have name display for call display? It seems every rom i flash it only shows the number and not the name. If anyone knows of a rom that has name display please advise. Thanks in advance.
It depends on your carrier and if they support it
Every ROM I've flashed always showed me Caller ID. Every ROM you've flashed didn't? Probably a carrier issue or you don't have Caller ID.

My carrier Rogers supports it. It is part of my plan. The only rom that gives me name display is the Nexus Xperia 1.0.1. But the battery life is not as good as other roms. Not sure why name display don't work on them? Remember it shows the number but not the name. But Xperia port shows both.

in fact I submitted the patch, it works (tested on fido), at least when someone is calling you, and you see the notification if the call was missed, but the minute you enter the call log the information disappears, someone might be interested to make not work that way (or I can try if I can find time and patience).
but CM9 is not officially out, you can get nightly builds or checkout Kalimocho's thread in dev forum.

Well the patch works in CM9 but yes i see what you mean how it reverts back to the number when you go view missed call. It is just weird that only CM9 and the xperia port show me name display. I have flashed GB and ICS roms and nothing. I just figure it is a feature i pay for with my plan so i would like to have it haha. Well thanks
codename android rom has the support.
To store the name display in call log make sure you use anything other then stock call log. Go dialer works and some other call logs
Doesn't this have to do with if you have caller ID or not, meaning on your phone plan?
Is Go Dialer any good btw? From the makers of GO SMS I'm assuming?
Have you turned it on under Phone -> Settings -> Additional Settings -> Caller ID? Whenever I flash a new rom I have to go and set all that up again, my carrier data doesn't load itself. Perhaps that will help. I've had Caller ID on all my ICS roms.

as the title states it is not CALLER ID. it is CALLER NAME (along the phone number). For quiet some time it was a premium feature on top of the traditional caller ID. Now I think it is the only Caller ID feature you get
Traditional caller ID : you get the phone number. the name is displayed iff (<=>) you have that phone number in your contacts (it displays what ever you have)
Caller Name Display (cnap) : you get the phone number + the name of the persone calling you (if you have it in your contacts that information is displayed, if you don;t you get what ever name is associated with that number, like the caller ID display in home phones).

that has to do with your own phone number (display it when ever you call someone or not. the 3 choice is let the network decide). nothing to do with incoming calls.

That setting is for showing your caller id on outgoing calls.

[Q] Voicemail setup (3 as provider)

Hi
I have a little problem. Normally I should be able to just hold the "1 button" in the dialer and it should call the voicemail number stored on the simcard, but instead it says that the number is not setup and that I should configure it in settings. I then press settings and try to put in the voicemailnumber, but then I get an error that it couldn't be said and that I should contact my provider if the error persists.
I have called my provider but it hasn't helped much (they tried taking reassociate my voicemail from their side, they got me to change simcard and reset the phone, but still no solution)
So there are 2 problems:
Nexus4 is not reading the voicemailnumber stored on the simcard
and
I cannot manually set the voicemailnumber
This is on stock android 4.2.1 and the number is ported from a normal sim to a micro sim(and I know am running on another micro sim the said I should try)
Does anyone know what is failing and what I can tell my provider to get this fixed. I know it is minor annoyance and I am just calling voicemail from my contacts instead.
Best Regards
Hasse

Do you have google voice app installed on your phone? If you do try removing and then try adding the number,.
Thanks for the suggestions. The apn settings is correct - so they must have been read correctly from the simcard
I don't have Google voice installed(seems I cannot even get it in danish play store)
The problem also exists after doing a factory reset and 3/three has also replaced my simcard, but I still cannot set my voicemail number (in the settings of the dialer). So I'm thinking that 3/three in Denmark maybe are doing something wrong with the simcards? I will try later to put it into another phone and see how that work

Caller ID with Name Display in Kit Kat?

I notice on all the Kit Kat roms when i receive a call it only displays the phone number. With my phone plan with Rogers it is supposed to show the number and the name (names that are not in your contacts). I believe on CM 4.3.1 it displays the name but then once you go to the call log the name disappears. So basically the name should show when the call is coming and should show in the call log and stay there. Hoping eventually there is a patch or something for this. Any suggestions?

the nexus 4 can't be modified by carriers so things like that are over-ridden I believe.
it happens with me on Koodo too. though I'm not actually sure it's on my plan

Ya Kit Kat is really weird too because the name wont show when it is ringing. If you miss the call it shows the name in the notification bar. Then when you click on it to go to the call log it disappears again. So it is showing but not properly. Figure maybe there might eventually be a tweak for it.

s7 Edge international version (935F) no visual voicemail using ATT

Using my old sim card from iPhone, everything else works, but I found no way to get to the visual voicemail, I don't see the voicemail icon shown in the "Phone" app at all.

There's an AT&T Visual Voicemail app in the Play Store that worked for me. Installed it and all my old voicemails loaded right up.

Yes that's exactly what I'm doing now, but I still wish I could go to voicemail directly by tapping the voicemail icon from phone, but I guess it's baked into system-level for carrier device so maybe it's not possible

Yes, I downloaded the ATT visual voicemail app, and voicemails are showing up there.
Edit nevermind:
I have to go to the visual voicemail app to see the voicemails. this is how it was on my Galaxy S4 too
I'm seeing another voicemail-related problem with my S7 Edge International (G935F) with my AT&T SIM. When I try to change the Call Forwarding numbers (CF Busy/No Answer/Unavailable/Always) there is no number shown and I can't change any of the numbers (in particular, change CF All to my VM number or change CF to another person). Trying to change anything gets a Network Error message. Is this how it works for others? I also have an AT&T-branded LG G3 that has the same problem, but an AT&T Samsung S6 can change the CF settings.
for people that have the ATT Visual Voicemail app. Have you noticed that the phone will give you the notification that you have voicemail and the app itself will not provide you with the notification until you open it up and choose refresh. I do have notifications turned on. Other than that this app works fine.
