Bluegrass Cellular Android 2.1 released! - Hero CDMA General

Well, it's about damn time.
http://pcdphones.com/downloads/934-adr6250_2-1_mr_bg-zip
for anyone who cares.

Welcome to 2.1! Better late than never right?

Yeah, but after I put this update on my phone, they removed it from their website and the posts from Twitter where they told everyone it was out... Fishy...

Very fishy indeed. Does the new version work and seem to run well, at least?

there must be something im missing. I don't understand why so many people care or are excited about the official 2.1 RUUS coming from carriers. these ruus make you loose root, so your stuck on stock bull**** with no updates ever again.
the xda community puts out far better roms in a more timely fashion than htc ever could.
when my carrier (ACS wireless) released their 2.1 ruu i was interested for two reasons: 1. i pulled the radio update out and flashed that so my base-band version would match official. 2. the clowns at ACS didn't know their mmsc server and the value wasn't in the 1.5 software, so i pulled the server addy from someones stock phone who had flashed the update.
beyond that, I really couldn't have cared less about the ruu release. I saw it with the sprint RUU and now with the smaller carriers, people keep flashing these damn ruu's and then making threads about how they lost root because they were a dumb-ass.

I don't really care about root, the stock stuff is fine for me.
And before anyone goes on a lecture to me about all the features root has, I know. I've rooted before and it just wasn't a big deal to me.

Waiting for the official 2.1 rom almost drive me crazy!

lots of apps can not run on the 1.5 rom,1.6 rom does not support HSDPA well, meanwhile there is no such official annoucement can confirm whether the magic will be updated to 2.1 or hell not!!!
what the ...!!!
Rogers has long time ago told that their 32A is going to get the 2.1 treatment by mid-summer, and that should quickly give all other rootede 32A an B's the same

Straight from HTC
@xyq105113: Please get your facts straight and your charm polished.
First of all: if you never been promised a 2.1 update for your magic i don't see what this complain is about. What will be next? That you want the 3.0 as soon as that will be released. You can't expect that old hardware will support or get updated software just be happy if you do.
Another thing is: welcome to xda developers who actually makes this update possible for you already unless you got an unhacked spl. If that's your problem then maybe a little research before buying or updating official software would have been a good idea.
My guess is that since HTC already announced update for the Hero and for the Rogers magic it will most probably come to all non-google branded magics.
But again i don't get why everyone got that attitude cause they haven't got any updates for their older mobiles.
There is several reasons for not giving updates to everyone.
1) More sales.
2) Less work making new drivers
3) Less support cases cause of people who can't figure out how to update.
4) Less phone replaced cause of people ****ing up under update.
5) Did i mention more sales ?

thank u for explaining, but there are still several bugs in those roms, right?
Plus since magic been published did htc ever update our magic once? Even Tatto have its 1.6 sense UI rom, why not update our magic, due to magic is still for sell, it seems no reason not to update magic. What I want is just a official 2.1 rom for my magic after this long time since 2.1 been published.
P.S. I do not consider my magic as a too old hardware to be updated, my BB 8320 still get new roms........

Many countries got an update for their magic just not an android update but update with Sense and Android market for those without. Think we all would love an official update with the new Sense and Android 2.1 for easy rom cooking to Magic. But i would think twice before updating the RUU if it comes, cause it might be impossible for root it for a while after if it will ever be possible after that update. I wouldn't consider it old yet either and hoping for the update as well. But i'm just happy that i got xda where i can get most of the things i need. But the mobile industry is moving really fast at the moment and i think that HTC decided to put focus on getting market share instead of pleasing their existing customers. Then we can discuss what the smartest move is in this case, but somehow i think HTC know what they are doing at the moment. But again i actually think that non-google branded HTC magics might get the update now that its official that Hero and Rogers magic does, cause with that done it wont require much work to release it for the rest of us.
But maybe they wont cause of the reasons i mentioned last post for not giving us the update. For now we can only hope, and enjoy the work the developers does for us to make it possible to have a good and stable HTC sense rom running Android 2.1

All US android phones to receive android 2.1.
HSPA has nothing to do with ROM version. It's a setting in build.prop. I have HSDPA and HSUPA working on Donut, as do many other people. It's on by default in CyanogenMod and probably some others.
Look in this thread for how: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=595108
are we another day closer to 2.1?

G1 2.0 update

Does anyone believe that the G1 will get an official 2.0 update at all for stock ROM users??
google has already said that the G1 will not get anything higher than 1.6 officially. If you want 2.1/2.2 on the G1, you have to root and do it yourself.
Yeah.. defiantly not we got told to pull our g1 stock off the shelves last weeks and we're no longer selling it... so guess it's Cyanogen time for you.
People, people, people...
Google has officially stated that Android 2.2 will support the Google ION. This basically means full support for the G1. Does anyone read these days?
supoort doesn't mean the g1 will get an OTA update, since we no longer carry the phone in stores or even sell it online I highly doubt that G1 users will be seeing it unless you get a clean rom dump and Cyanogen & other devs build it up for you.
Officially, neither google nor tmobile have said anything on the matter of G1 and 2.0. The MT3G will be getting the expresso version of 2.1 once the slide comes out (rumor says), and since the mt3g and G1 have almost the exact same hardware (minus some ram) you will be able to run it. Cyanogen has made a superb version of eclair for us though, and you won't regret rooting just to be able to run it.
Officially I can tell you this as someone who's worked with T-Mo for 4 years. We do not release OTA's for phone we no longer sell. Simple as that. G1 will not ever get an OTA or 2.0 release. I could tell you it's a possibility but I'd be blowing smoke up your ass when I know you'll won't get anything. But as the person above me said it's defiantly worth rooting to get CM5.0.7
hehe...yeah u wish.
even if there is an official update i'll still go to CM 5.0.7...best ever

When/If there will be an official 2.2 for the Aria

I've seen lots of information flying around on Engadget and the like about HTC 2.2 updates forthcoming, but I have yet to see anything at all about the Aria.
Does anyone have any idea if HTC / AT&T intend to update the Aria to 2.2? Of course I know if they don't, we have some guys working hard on unofficial versions. Just would like to know if we'll get anything official...
HTC has stated they're working on it, and they "hope to have it done by christmas" but I wouldn't hold my breath for it to get thru HTC and AT&T for the Aria by then. Last I can remember, the HTC Wildfire was listed as getting the update and the Aria is very similar to said device. I also recall hearing that HTC said all the devices released past a certain point this year (Aria falls within this range) will be getting 2.2. I'm sure the Aria will get it, but again, I wouldn't hold my breath, CM6 will most likely be in full functioning order before official Froyo
Will definitely be trying out CM6 as soon as it gets in a little more working order! Definitely not holding my breath on HTC + AT&T...especially not the AT&T part of that equation.
Nothing official about the Aria, but HTC Evo is getting some official 2.2 Froyo loving tomorrow.
Maybe with that, we can hope for an earlier release for the Aria.
I wont hold my breath, the Motorola Back flip have been out for how long and its still on the launch firmware. ATT will take their sweet time when HTC releases it to them, best chance is that someone here gets their hand on is and bakes a 2.2 with HTC Sense rom for Aria users to flash with.

Considering how the Backflip went, this isn't surprising. Why could a company back a device that isn't doing much on it's own already?
Might be coming sooner than some of you expect. HTC seems to be getting serious about froyo

http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/29/htc-will-ship-all-android-phones-in-china-with-froyo-on-board-f/
Granted we'll have to deal with att.
I think we will see one, but it will be a pain to install. The phone, for whatever reason, cannot accepted over-the-air (OTA) updates... there's no option in the settings to see if there is an update like most other android phones. HTC has said you will need to use HTC sync to upgrade. (Though I'm sure many of the people here at xda will have no problem loading the ROM via Sync or other ways, for regular users this could be a pain.)
Thought I'd share. I found this bit of info on the htc support forums in the aria section.

Whne there is an update for the Aria-it will have to be loaded from a PC to your device. The good news is that after the first update for the Aria, Firmware Over The Air will be implemented so that any subsequent updates will arrive to your device over the Air once their are released. Currently, there are no updates for the Aria OS-they are in the works.
So it is quite possible we may be getting froyo because she said it's "in the works." One of the other HTC forum moderators said it may take a while because it will be "tested and approved" by att and that we'll need to update it via sync.
So from what I understand, she said after the first update, there will be more updates released OTA. Froyo is gonna be a sync update so when she says any subsequent updates will arrive, does that mean she's hinting we'll be getting updates past froyo? Maybe we'll be able to get 3.0 ;P I mean what other updates will there be? lol
I'd LOVE to get 3.0, but I'll be happy with 2.2.
There is a post at Unwired review (can't post link until my account is verified.. not sure if there is a way to 'request' to be verified), but it's from Unwired Review. Just google "Android 3 Gingerbread."
But then there was an update to the post:
Update: I posted an update to this post, where I address Dan Morrill’s tweet, and do some corrections/clarifications regarding the upcoming Android update number issues, “minimum” specs – thay are actually only “recommended”, and the the split between high end Android 3 – low end Android 2.2 devices – it’s not an official Google policy, but it is happening nonetheless.

So could we get it? Yes. And I think with the speed htc is pushing out the updates, it's not a question for them of "do we update the aria," it's the same question for many of their phones, since so many htc android phones are similiar inside and out.
Froyo for the Aria is something I have been looking forward to for a while now, and seeing it any later than October would be a huge letdown.

So I talked to T-Mo Rep

Today, I kept getting random messages from random numbers, so I called in to block, the rep also had a vibrant. So she was like "So... how do you like the vibrant?"
I'm all like "It's sexy"
But it took her so long to solve my problems, so I asked about random stuff like "Do you know when Froyo is coming out?"
She was a pretty "SMART TECH" you don't see those much on help lines now do you?
She replies: Let me check on that for you
and then she came back on and said "it won't be anytime soon, because if it is anytime soon, the tech supports usually knows weeks or months beforehand, but right now, it says 'to be determined'"
SO, do you guys it'll take as long as the rep said?
Unfortunately, this still fell into the same "He Said She Said" category, until we get an official statement, it's all moot. She may be smart but she is still a rep and I doubt she will have access to OTA information. She most likely turned around and asked her best friend/co-worker who is a tech, and he replied that he didn't know anything, and she passes that onto you.
I think she's right. We already know that froyo would come by the end of the year according to the galaxy s twitter. I expect it to come around December 29. Am I so pessimistic?

same here. I read the same thing in a tech online magazine.. they actually said 2011 but no precise date..
Im running the unofficial TMO froyo posted in this forum though and I like it
Cheers
Personally, I think Samsung should just give up and hand over the kernel source, maybe keep some respect.
The Unoffical Official T-MO Froyo ROM is in the Development section. If that is actually the real thing (and I completely believe it is) I don't see what the delay is for them to just release it.
Even when it does come out, I know for myself that I will keep a custom ROM. Why have stock when you can rock!
I think the point for all of us that are running one of the leaked 2.2 roms is that an official release will have more of the bugs ironed out and it will help with some of the compatibility issues. I for one have tried all flavors and each has a quirk or two. The good thing is that when 2.2 finally drops officially the devs will have almost perfected their roms and it will be easier to implement any changes made by Tmobile.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I agree with the previous post. I think Samsung leaked the ROM so that the devs here could get their hands on it and make fixes that they then can implement into the official ROM.
So it wouldn't be so embarrasing on Samsung's part? x) Something big like a software update isn't too "easily" leaked. So I do sort of have to agree too.

Why Complain about no Offical 2.2?

Here is how I see it. There are still a ton of people complaining about the fact that Samsung and Tmoble have not released an offical Froyo for the Vibrant. Honistly why are people still waiting? There are a TON of 2.2 options on the dev page, they are all good at this point and they are being produced with leak software which is being released about once a week at this point. Macnut 14 for example is sooooo good that even if tmoble did release a offical Froyo I wouldn't even bother to download it. I would just wait for someone release a custom rom that used the most recent code.
With that in mind, we are constantly geting the most recent code with all the leaked versions that keep comming. Affter playing with the stock versions of these leaks, im GLAD that they are not releasing these as OTA updates yet. This would stop them from improving the code as rapidly as they are. As it is, every time a new firmware is leaked, it takes our devs here at XDA to make it something truly wonderful.
Ultimately, no one who post on this forum should complain for one simple reason. If you are posting here then you have obviouly found the forum. If you found the forum, then you are one click away from the Dev forum where you can get so much Froyo that you will have brain freaze for a year!!! For those of you afraid to try flashing your software read this.
1. Is easyer than you think
2. You wont hard brick your phone,
3. If you read a follow the directions step by step, you will be fine
4. Your not going to void your warrenty if the first thing you learn to do is flash back to JI6 (stock)
5. You will fix the large majority of the problems you may be experencing on your phone now with 2.2
The new Froyo roms are SAFE to flash. If something goes wrong there are step by step directions here to recover back to stock. If you are still nervous about flashing, just stay away from the lag fixes and you will be fine. Lag fixes are for more experenced users and are not needed so your not missing out that much as any 2.2 rom is going to be much faster than 2.1 JI6.
Guys, the latest that samsung has offer is right here on this site!!! Take advantage of it and learn the few simple things it takes to become a power user. Your phone is good hardware, give it the software it craves and the moble experence you want. Im shure samsung is working as fast as they can especaly with the new Nexus just coming out, but when this update goes live, its going to be for everyone, including the people that have never heard of XDA or even cared about Froyo to begin with. It has to be flawless firmware for the masses. The longer they take the better its going to be, and if you want it now, you can have what they they've got so far just by pulling it from this very website
Forget class action, forget refunds and *****ing. The only word you need to learn is ODIN. After that, your in control thanks to the great devs here at XDA. Oh, and by the way, you may want to learn how to use ODIN right now. Think about it, Froyo is cool, but Gingerbread is on the way guys, and those of us who are willing to take the time to read will have 2.3 long before those of you who complain and do nothing to educate yourselfs will have Froyo.
From now on, whenever I see a "lets sue Tmo for no Froyo" thread, im going to post one simple phase:
"Complain less, ODIN more!!!!"
+1

some could argue it will run better than custom 2.2? but whos complaining
hack away!
I've gone back to stock as custom roms will always have a bug or two, and more so when they are based off of a leaked rom(and there have been more then one for 2.2). I'm waiting till an official update is released before I try custom roms again.
Odin and Rom Manager are great, and I have enjoyed geeking away my time with roms on XDA. However:
1. Not everyone has time to waste exploring a bunch of roms to see which are stable.
2. Samsung probably appreciates XDA because it takes the pressure off of them:. The most savvy consumers are placated by the ability to get Froyo on their own.
Imagine Toyota never releasing a recall on their automobiles after the safety scandals, and that instead people on YouTube taught people how to fix the cars themselves in the garage. Sure, mechanically inclined folks would jump at the opportunity, and perhaps say, don't be mad at Toyota, fix it yourselves! Toyota would probably like the "DIY" trend among their customers.
Sure, we should take action and get Froyo ourselves, but that should not lessen our anger at Samsung/T-Mobile.
One very good reason to complain about the lack of an official 2.2 release is that Samsung won't release source until that's out. If we had source, we would have had CM6 or a true AOSP build by now.

And now we have the source for 2.3 AND the Nexus S kernel source. I'd put my money on seeing that kernel working on the vibrant in short order and full AOSP gingerbread roms not long after.
Samsung Software department is a joke, 2.3 is out and sammys latest and greatest phone still runs software from over a year ago
GPS is still borked on all roms. Is it usable? Somewhat. But I wouldn't trust it if my life depended on it. Samsung fixed the initial lock issue. It locks fine with 10-12 sat locked with maybe 5m error. The problem is when you use it for navigation. The GPS will lose the lock repeatedly and randomly jump. This after Odin to stock JFD and then Odin to newest JL4. I used Samsung GPSrestore app to reset the GPS settings. I tried about every leaked and custom roms since the release of this phone. GPS is still crappy. GPS Status app showing sat lock doesn't mean it's fixed.

*Every* custom 2.2 rom has "issues" that will be solved once the official 2.2 is released.
First, Thank god this is not a safety issue like the Toyota stuff, lol.
As far as the source being released, true, but we must concider the fact, as im sure they have, that we are geting the gingerbread source. If that ports, then its going to more than make up for CM6 or AOSP 2.2 IMHO....
For those of you who posted that your going to stick with the stock roms, there is not a thing wrong with that. Great thing is your not the type that complains. You know what it takes to debug this stuff and have tried the custom roms. For me, Macnut final was less buggy that JI6. Im a happy camper. You tried them and made an informed, educated decission and didn't just get on a soap box with a megaphone and gripe.
This is what im talking about, choices. We are lucky enough to have choices here and options when it comes to our software. For all the complaining we do, many other phone owners dont have those options.
As for "evey bug that is in the Roms will be fixed in 2.2 offical" I hope your right, but it takes time to debug and people who say "I WANT IT NOW!!!!< YOU PROMISED!!! WAAAAAA". They need to realize if it was put out NOW it would have the exact same bugs as the roms. As you might note, the bugs in the roms are geting fewer and fewer. Once they are all gone, the BAM!!! Offical release. But in the mean time, we shoud be gratefull for what we have, and what we have comming, namely Gingerbread..
I dont want to get into the GPS issue in this thread. Software is never going to be the compleate fix, i've already stated this elsewhere. I still beleave its mostly due to a bad connection to the antenna. When I fixed that on mine, it solved 95 percent if my gps issues, and updated modems fixed the rest. The GPS may be one place a Vibrant owner truely has some ground to complain, but Im strictly talking about people who complain about the 2.2 update here.

+1 to be completely honest, i'd be content getting the froyo source from Sammy and getting the JIT improvements ported over. GB doesn't excite me as much as froyo did when it was new. I just like the idea of AOSP and JIT improvements.

yeah, my favorite is people saying samsung software devs suck cause we don't have froyo and tw sucks and blah blah blah blah, then complain they don't have an 'official' 2.2 when that 'official' 2.2 would have been released by those same samsung devs that suck and some/most of the 'unofficial' 2.2 roms we have are created by good/competent devs. but they aren't 'official'. lol.
If you are still having GPS problems after trying all the fixes and ROMs than ytou may have a hardware issue requiring a replacement.
ive flashed many roms and at first I thought it was the best thing ever till I started to see bugs and problems with mms or mounting issues and then came the fixes and I was like ok its fixed but theres some problems that didnt get fixed like the mic input volume is low when recording a video on a leaked 2.2 rom i confirmed it by going back to JI6, then I noticed my haptic feedback was messed up and i would get weak glitchy vibrations overall. GPS was never an issue for me and the roms with "improved/fixed gps" made it worse or didnt change at all. So as of now im done flashing and waiting for the OTA update.

Let's see. My Vibrant has the same problem. My wife's Vibrant has the same problem. Two of my friends have Vibrants and they have the same problem. One did a replacement exchange and that has the same problem. 5 out of 5 different Vibrants have the same problem. You really think exchanging is going to solve this issue? I refuse to believe any Vibrant owner has a perfect working gps. It might be borderline usable but it's still ****ty GPS compared to other phones.

As I've said, gps works perfectly in mine and I'm able to use it for navigation. I would say 1) if they are stock, are they running the update? 2) check serial numbers, if they are close enough, could have been part of a bad batch. I'm not trying to make excuses, but just suggestions. There are those who would say just flash a custom rom, but I know that isn't for everyone. I say try to exhaust every option you have with Tmo, but if thing still dont work out, i would recommend the EECB(Electronic Executive Carpet Bomb). I've had results in getting corporations to help me out with this(Tmo and Chase). Basically you send a mass email to every executive you can get a hold of. But I would only use this as a last resort as you can use your previous attempts with the regular customer service as evidence in any argument you make in the email, just make sure its a polite one. Ones full of flame and hate tend to not work.

And thats what I'm waiting for, and official base from which the devs will work from. But thats not to say there still wont be bugs, I've never met a perfect rom, simply good enough.
