Silent call bug and non-Sense-based ROM - Droid Eris Android Development

Is anyone running a ROM that has no traces of Sense left in it and has also never experienced the silent call bug ? More importantly, did you have the bug before switching to this ROM ?
I encounter this bug too often and really don't want to swap phones. 1) I will likely lose root, 2) replacement phones may still have problem, and 3) I saw a post from one person who was told by VZW that they're no longer swapping phones because of # 2.
When I experimented with non-Sense ROMs, most had the inability to send or receive MMS (can't recall which it was, one worked, other didn't). I know there were patches that fixed this but not sure if they worked 100%.
Suggestions ?

I have not had the silent call bug. It is an HTC problem. I run CyanogenELB, which is built from source. There is a fix for the MMS for that ROM. It works 100% (unless you happen to be on a different carrier).

I have been using white widow 4.4 and have not had a silent bug issue and mms works fine for me after the "fix". But I have had the silent issue with every rom I have tried except for WW 4.4.

If you've NEVER had the silent issue, you may simply have a good (some would say "lucky") phone !

Running WW 4.4 at the moment but not for long enough to say that the issue still exists or is gone.

why are notifications so slow?!

Hi all,
I've been trying not to let this bother me too much but it just does. Why, when we've come so far with mobile technology, are basic things like this still not done properly?! specifically:
1. my hero doesn't actually start ringing for at least 3 rings on the callers side? this it might not seem much but is almost 10 seconds that the caller is waiting before I know about it. By the time I do and get to the phone I will almost miss the call.
2. this may be a handcent problem but I don't get the trackball flashing 2-3 seconds and the actual audio notification for 5-10 seconds.
-
l just want these things to feel instant and zippy. Is that too much to ask? I don't think so considering this handset can show me which constellation I'm looking at and that there is a 'titty/tapas bar 500 yds that way'.
Is there anything I can do to improve these fustrations?
Don't get me wrong, I think the handset is generally great but don't want a 'Jack of all trades, master of nothing'.
R,ant over.

Hi,
I get the same problem with my phone not registering a call for atleast 10 seconds and usually missing calls, it's very annoying!
Something I've found that helped me was to prolong the time it takes before the caller is sent to your voicemail i.e. your phone SHOULD ring for longer before the caller gives up...
Search the forums for the code you need to enter to prolong the time period (I think it's 30 seconds).
Hope this helps...
It depends on the rom your running.
For example the latest VillainRom rings instantly now but always used to be quite delayed.
the handset is very well aware of the incoming call, it just takes a few seconds to ring and display the call. when you are listening to music you will notice that it stops, then after a few seconds it will start to ring. try to use .ogg ringtones, apperantly that makes it better.

I'm using Modaco 3.2 and have always had this issue since upgrading from the Stock rom months ago!
Are you saying that the latest Villain ROM (based on 2.1) fixes this issue?
So in theory this problem should be rectified once 2.1 is officially released??!

yes it seems to be fixed in VillainRom 5.2 or its certainly a lot better than it was.
This fix was something the Dev (Nathan) did I think so official 2.1 may still have the problem

Interesting!
I guess I'll wait until 2.1 is released and see if that fixes the problem otherwise I'll be switching to the Villain ROM based on the official 2.1!
Cheers for the info Lenny...

(Fix) Audio loss soon

by request ill make an update.zip for audio loss for eris users.
im leaving for nashville tonight so i wont be doing any work this weekend.
so i need responses on this thread on what roms DO NOT cause audio loss.
please discuss and come to an agreement on the best rom for me to pull the kernel.
mods please do not move this as i will be updating soon with fix.
What is the fix for? I know on my phone sometimes I can't hear anything when making a call.
I run my own Rom and kernel on my phone so can you just supply the fixed files or tell what they are and I will pull from the zip

what audio loss?, I've tried every rom and havn't had this problem yet.. are you talking about the dreaded audio bug? I am famililar with that as im on a refurb now from that. pre root tho.
If you mean that ringtones go silent with no warning then ZenEXP-Eris Espresso ~Rev7~ does have the issue, EE 3.0 does not so far.
I had that problem big time with Ivan's Official but with JCase's Plain Jane I havent had the problem at all.
I have that issue with the cyanogen roms and ic3rom. But as far as I've noticed the zenEXP and damageR roms do not have this issue. At least for me anyway.
I'd really like to run cyanogenELB, but the loss of audio is a deal breaker.

I'm experiencing audio loss, as far as loss of ringtone, on EE 3.0 for the last 2 days. Totally silent for every call coming in. I have rebooted, gone to a backup, not sure whats going on.

When i have had the issue before, going into to settings and resetting the rigntone worked. It would be set on default ringtone, not what I had assigned. I put it back to what i wanted and it would ring again. same thing with notifications
Can't Wait
I am using Ivans official and have had this problem a couple of times. When I place a call I hear nothing. The call goes thru on the other end but on mine its like the speaker just refuses to work. I have been wiping dalvik to temp fix the problem. Very annoying. Can't wait for the fix. Thanks in advance.
Using the rooted version of leak3 and also have the same problem with loss of audio. Reboot only way to resolve it.

Having the audio loss (go to make a call every once in a while and the phone is silent and I have to reboot) on Evil Eris 2.0.1. Also, the alarm sometimes does not go off.

I know you say DO NOT CAUSE AUDIO LOSS, but it seems like a lot of people are letting you know about their audio loss.
Sorry, but I figure I will add to this since others are speaking about Evil Eris.
For me, I get the silent bug (meaning all audio stops working: email notification, text, volume, music, ringtone selector, alarm tone--<when SB happens and I am trying to select a ringtone or alarm tone I get a FC for HTC sound something another>>--)
I have had this with EE 2.0, 2.0.1, and 3.0. My wife however is still on 2.0.1 and has never had the silent bug issue.
Also, for me, I do not get the shutter sound in camera, meaning when you take a picture it makes that camera sound noise. This happens without the silent bug, just don't get sound.
On AF http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/99973-found-what-causes-silence-lag.html this may or may not help you.
This seems to happen to me about every 24-26 hours.
And most importantly, THANK YOU for looking into this and trying to fix it!!!!!!!
edit: I wanted to clear up, I love Evil Eris! I mean no disrespect to this fantastic ROM or to Frame!!!

I'm have the same problem using Ivans official. Not sure but i think the problem starts when I'm using data and then receive a call. When I answer I hear nothing and when I try to call back I hear nothing. I just reboot to fix.
Just wanted to give an update.
I flashed Sushi last night http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701544 and am still having the silent bug making me a strong believer that I have a hardware issue.
Somewhere I read someone is thinking it has to do with the proxy sensor. Today I had silence twice, that's 2 times in just a few hours, this has never happened before. Also, each time today happened within an hour of using the camera (and I still have no shutter sound with this ROM).
I failed to mention last night that I am on an old Radio 2.40.00.01.22
I am sorry if I sound like a post whore but I just want to give accurate observations.
Camera
Seems that every time I use the camera or open the camera to browse pics it seems to somehow trigger this problem. The only time I've ever had this problem was after using the camera.

Yes, I am now thinking it has something to do with the camera. I just got the silent bug again, 3rd time today, this was after I used the camera this evening to test and see if the silent bug would happen. This time it took 90 minutes when before it seemed to happen within an hour.
I had identified the bug a while back, but no one took any interest.

I'm glad to see that more people are becoming aware of it. Hope someone finds a fix soon. The only ROM that I'm aware of that isn't having this issue is the original 1.5.
just asking
im not sure what this trouble everyone is having but im not having any problems besides mms needing the fix but other wize no other issues sound included
Well I assure you this issue is very real and very annoying. I wish I were lucky enough to not have to deal with it, but thats not the case. Can't wait till I don't have to deal with it anymore.

no vibrate with JL1

So I flashed the new JL1 firmware last night to try it out and thus far its been a pretty solid firmware. The only problems I have found so far is that the vibration function does not work at all. and the market is missing apps like Paypal and a few others that I usually use. you can set it to always vibrate and leave haptic feedback on but when you go to adjust the vibration nothing happens as far as the phone vibrating. I just missed 2 calls and a text message because the phone didnt vibrate. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem and while the ideas are flowing, how to root JL1. I miss having root so I can run my usual programs.
the vibration is confirmed as not working in JL1, no workaround it is a bug in a leaked firmware, not official. Go back to what you were running previously.
I know nothing about the vibration issue / how to fix it. Nothing in JL1 worth staying on it now, nandroid to what you were on before.
However, the Market issue is fairly common per these leaked official TMO roms. The fingerprint has changed so the market doesn't yet recognize it. Often downloading a few things, paid / purchased and then rebooting a few times makes them return. However, if it doesn't not you can optionally change the fingerprint back to one that worked and repeat the above.
I imagine your tried using RyanZA's root app and that failed. Have you also tried SuperOneClick yet?

dont know about receiving calls and sms. but when i adjust vibration, everything works fine.
I ended up going back to jk6 because i need the vibration function o work. as far as the market fix, i tried the whole download a few of my purchased and regular apps and rebooting a few times but that still did not fix anything. Call wise and reception wise, JL1 was far better for me in my apartment, but the other problems made it too much of a PITA. I guess I'l be rockin jk6 until someone can fix JL1 or until the nexus s comes out. either way, im ok with it.

I doubt the vibration issue would be too difficult to fix, it's just that no one cares enough to do it I think lol. Really, JL1 seems so similar to JK6, I'd say just run the JL1 modem on JK6 (or just run JK6 if you think the modem is a placebo) and call it a day.

Ringtone Volume spike on call answer.

Hello everyone,
When I try to answer a call the ringtone volume will spike for a very short of time. The spike will make the volume peak at it highest. Anyone has this problem?
very annoying
Anyone
I've bought the note 4 just 5 days ago and I've just recently noticed this particular sound issue too. I'm wondering if it's just a software bug... It's so weird that just you and me are having this issue that I'm really thinking that it could be a hardware issue...

I would love to have answer as well, but i'm in the same boat. However, I tried to set the same ringtone as an alarm with max volume and when i try to stop/snooze it doesn't do that. I even tried the MOD that is on the app section which change the volume on the note 4. It did increase my speaker volume but i didn't do anything in fixing the issue. I also tried to install an app called "Disable Increasing Ring" which remove the low volume on the first ring but it didn't help either.
I tried to post this on another forum looking for help and one guy said "Check the setting that maximizes the volume on ringing." I don't know what does that mean.

I tried the "Disable Increasing Ring" app too, because I initially tought that it was a bug of the increasing ringtone feature that is present since Android v.4.3... But it didn't work. I've also flashed another rom and the issue persisted.
I don't know... What drives me crazy is that some people have this problem but the majority just don't! Of it is a firmware problem, it should happen with everyone that has the same rom...
I'm also worried because this spike in the ringtone volume may damage the loudspeaker through time...
To be honest, I'm just about to return my phone!!!
Same here. 910c version.

I've tried 02 official stock roms: ZTO (Brazil - International Unlocked) and ZTA (Brazil - Claro Branded).
I did the Factory Reset and wiped the Cache Patition using the Stock Recovery, and then flashed these roms using Odin 3.09
Then I started the phone, didn't logged in my google account nor in my samsung account, and so I did'd download nor intalled any app. I didn't make any changes on the phone's configuration menu.
Then, with the phone like this, I've called myself using my girlfriend's phone and, unfortunately, when I swiped to answer the call the damn sound bug was still present!!!
Since I know many other users that run these roms and don't have this problem, I'm assuming that it's a hardware issue particular to my note 4 unit.
So I have no other choice: I'll return my phone as soon as possible!

Why not??? The point is that people running the same Samsung rom that I have simply don't have this problem. The fact is that every note 4 unit should be able to run a stock rom and not present this particular bug. I mean, it must be a hardware issue because my method excluded all the particular changes in the sistem that could be caused by apps or some configuration options... So, after excluding all those factors, if two identical models are running the same identical roms, the only reason that one unit has a bug and the other don't is that they aren't really identical, i.e. because one of them has a hardware problem/difference.
The other point is that if I want to use my warranty rights, I must not have root access nor use a custom rom, because I don't wat to trigger my flash counter or my knox counter...
So it makes absolutely no sense that I must loose my warranty and use a coustom rom to get rid of a problem that doesn't even exists in the vast majority of note 4 units that are able to run the stock rom without presenting this issue.

Incoming call ISSUE.

Hello guys. I have proble with my p7000 and incoming calls. Sometimes the incoming call just bug whole phone. I can't recieve the call and I have to put out the battery. It's really annoying. And also, I don't see who called me in call history. I've made factory reset, but it didn't help. Also I updated my firmware to the version 20150807 but this bug is still here.
Absolutely same problem has man on this video. /watch?v=c588Clm67ME

I had the same issue, try the November update from Stock or the Miui rom (the new one, not the one created the day the phone was out), I didn't had the glitch with those 2. I'm trying to know from what that problem come from but I'm far from being an expert sadly. That problem is on all the stock roms except the first and the one from November. All the roms based on stock got that issue (even those based with the November update strangely !?) so I guess it's something related to the voltage or something...

Thank you. So do you think, that ROMs like cyanogenmod doesn't have this issue? I almost can't use my phone... Today it happened to me again, but not on incoming call, but on alarm clock. So it has to be something with sound/soundcar/voltage of reproductors or something like that.. I am not expert so I am not sure.

The best is to test it. First install TWRP then make a backup of your current rom then install that rom : http://bbs.elephone.hk/thread-8425-1-1.html#.VlyDufkvdhF and see if that problem occur again. Personally I had no issue with the November rom for the P7000 so I'm staying on that one for now, even the root doesn't mess up anything... If that occur with alarm that might be a problem with the sound board/card then I had the same issue, when I get a call, the sound was looping, screen staying black, had to or remove the battery or long long press on the power button.
Hope that will help you !
PS : The november rom is here : http://bbs.elephone.hk/thread-9111-1-1.html#.VlyFPPkvdhE but you need a working flashtool for that one (you need flashtool for a custom recovery too anyway).
solved - cant receive incoming calls 4g'
I know this is an old thread but I have just had this exact same problem and after WEEKS of googling and determination I have found the fix to this problem..
I'm posting it because as I was googling I found that there are still hundreds of people experiencing this today.
HERE IS THE SOLUTION!
Dial *#*#4636#*#* on your phone..
Then scroll down and you will see a small down arrow next to "Set proffered network type"
Choose LTE/GSM/CDMA Auto (prl)
Also, you might need to check one other thing.. On the same screen go to top right ":" drop down nav menu settings shortcut and "Select Radio band" - do this if the 1st change hasn't fixed your incoming calls problem.. You can experiment with AUS, AUS2 or Automatic etc and try again.
I was about to throw this new Elephone S3 back to China but it's all great now
Hope this helps someone
