kernel source has been release whats next? - EVO 4G General

http://developer.htc.com/
finally,

Thank GOD!!!
Now that kid that we donated money to can get working on a good AOSP 2.2! Err, I think thats what's next.

Whats next?
Give it a couple of weeks and all the **** that doesn't work right now will likely be fixed and/or improved.
That means working cameras for froyo, the fps cap removing kernels, tweaks to gpu drivers or other systems etc..
Really the possibilities are endless. Instead of trying to reverse engineer everything instead the focus moves to making it work better and seeing how much of a cluster F*^k HTC's programming is on this device.

Perfect. HTC releases the source shortly after they patch root. Ha. Gotta love their priorities.

I'm sorry to tell you but here is the truth in a nutshell, they can improve the camera a little via software but a bad camera is a bad camera and the Evo has a bad camera. Don't expect any miracles.

I might be mistaken, but I thought the Iphone and Evo shared camera software? The iphone doesn't use the full resolution of the sensor though.

At the earliest most likely... patience Lil grasshopper
samsung is holding an event on the 16th to show off the media hub on the galaxy s phones and to show off some new models. I'd expect them to make an official announcement then since they've been rather quiet recently.
Some tmo rep said the same thing. End of this month. He also had to mention the g2 end of this month too. Kinda wondered should have I waited

eh, the G2 isn't much of an upgrade over the slide so I'd say you made the right choice.
Well with verizon's version of the galaxy s out, i think there is nothing to hold a massive upgrade to all versions back.
given that the tab is going to be running froyo real soon, the galaxy s phones shouldn't be that far behind. in fact, i think they should get the update first, but hey, what do i know
is this the latest update we'll get? will we be getting 3.0?

considering the number of devices sold, we'll probably get 3.0
Gingerbread would be great and a good pr move on the part of samsung. My expectation is low though simply because they will want people to buy new phones. Gingerbread will be an easy upgrade too because out would be vanilla with touchwiz and widgets being addons. The Tab has similar hardware and it may get it, making a custom ROM likely.

For example Samsung Omnia they stopped supporting the device after 1 year only !! NO WM6.5 !!

Last I checked, Samsung hasn't actually offered a phone to 100 carriers around the planet, including all 4 US national carriers.
As long as a single large American carrier demands the next version of Android, we ALL will get it.
I don't see the connection between froyo and the gps fix. If it was an android fix then we should have a fix already, I expect it is firmware based.

Im thinking this is also true, which leads me to think that this phone is going to be pretty damn awesome after 2.2. Then again this could just be wishful thinking...
Just wondering how the GalaxyS community is going to react if 2.2 isn't 100% PERFECT.... :grabs popcorn:
mmmm popcorn.... mmmm (visits microwave...)
anyone whining bout the gps fix needs to check out rooting and flashing eugenes vibrant 9 rom, ive made this comment like 15 times buuuuuut. i get a lock within 10meters in only 10 seconds with the gps on and the cell tower assist feature on. no nead to play around in Lbstestmode menus just turn on location settings in the menu open maps and find "my location"... and this is inside my apartment....
I cant wait for ALL the bonuses in 2.2 like flash and included wifi tethering but do we really need to make a million threads about it??? lol

See ya later Samsung!!

Going to trade out my Vibrant tomorrow for a G2.

They are actively testing Froyo also so that should be coming very soon. Good luck with that G2 though. I wouldn't go anywhere near it.

While I am not siding with them - they really aren't the same devices. If they were we could easily port vibrant and captivate roms. There is clearly work that has to go into each variant of the SGS line. It would probably make the LEAST amount of sense for the Epic to not get 2.3 officially. Primarily because of its 4g Radio and Front Cam - features that the others lack- even though our device is probably the most complicated to get working right.

Yes, yes, for profit. We all get that they're in the business of selling phones, not giving free updates. That's why I read an interesting blog about paying for OS updates a little while back. I'd gladly pay a few bucks to get honeycomb or ice cream on a 6 month to year old phone and to have them out in a timely fashion. Then Samsung and all the other manufacturers would have an incentive to actually put out updates for phones as well.

Adios HTC Hero.....

Hey all,
Just thought I would inform you that my Epic 4g is officially ordered, and I will receive it in approximately one week. Not only do I want to thank everyone for their amazing support of me for my time on the hero forum, but I'd like to let you know what I will maintain while I'm gone in the Epic section. I WILL still maintain my Q&A section, and will look for questions in my Themes. I will not be releasing new versions of themes, however. If you all would like the themes ported for the latest versions of CM, feel free to do that I just want to let everyone here know that they've helped me develop as a themer and developer, and I will miss this section. And please, feel free to join me as an Epic user
