Blackouts and lag - Galaxy S I9000 General

I don't know why but the default launcher really must be the cause of the blackouts and lag people are experiencing. Even with Taskmanager auto killing my apps I still got hickups in the UI. Installing launcher pro completely solved the issue for me so if you haven't tried that yet give it a shot. Cool thing is you can still use the samsung icons if you like. I know there is a thread about using a ram hack with launcherpro but that's not necessary to fix the blackout issue.

I had launcher pro installed for the first 3 days I had the phone - It is a great launcher, but it did not help me at all with the blackouts.
The blackouts and lag is not a constant problem. I had the phone running fine for hours, running multiple applications, and then suddenly it starts to slow down and i stare into a black screen for 3-15 seconds.
I'm waiting to see if there is any new firmware in the next days that fixes this. I have 3 more weeks in which I can return the device to amazon, and except for the blackouts it is a very good mobile.

Why would you have 3 weeks before returning it ? I thought once you buy from most online stores, you can return the phone unused within 7 days, not try it out and return it within a month . . I would love to have the option to try this can you confirm please
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Did not have alot off lag/blackouts on my Sgs even on Firemware FJ3, but when i did uppgrade to the new firmware i notice the litle i had was gone. And also with my 3g working all day and i do sms, mail and call quite alot battery Easy make it from 7 on the morning till i put in charger like 12-01 at night and then battery has been over 30% all times so far.

EU law gives every customer the right to return a product that he bought online within 14 days after he got it. Amazon.de additionally has a "return guarantee", in which you can return the product within 30 days of purchase.
Within the 14 days period you can use the product, as long as you do not damage it.
The 30 days "return guarantee" from amazon says that the product must be "unused and unharmed", but as long as you give it back in the same state you received it, you're fine.

Take phone Back

Hi I have the HTC HD2 and a bit fed up of some of the problems I am having with it.
IE Gmail exchange not working (takes hours for some emails to come thru and also sometimes it does not pick them up at all), facebook app always crashes and tries to send message to m$, and just the lack of quality apps.
I have had it less than 2 weeks and might take it back or sell it and wait for the Desire ???
Just asking would it be better to take it back (if possible) or would it be better to sell it instead ?? (how much would I get for it ???)
Cheers
Payneardo
How long have you been having the the Google exchange problems? Just to let you know google had some problems in there datacenter since friday which affected the exchange sync.
Hang in there its a great device.

could have been since friday but seems like since I have had it :0
But thanks for the info as I guess it is that I have done 2 hard resets as well as it seemed to work again after I had done them & then just stopped
I love the screen and love the browsing on it just got a few concerns by staying into a 2 year contract with it, if everybody stops devolping apps etc for it
Just looking at the desire and thinking is this the phone I will be better off with for 2 years ???
also struggled typing with the keyboard, my messages make no sense most of the time but they are even worse :0
heh
It just takes time getting used to it. I have been using android devices for the past 2 years and decided to see what the HD2 was like, i hated it to start with but now ive customized it and got to know it better i love it.
What ROM are you on as there may be a newer one out...

A story of two phones and how I got the GPS fixed.

Hello all, generally I am a lurker here and find want I need and more on. But today I decided to share the story of getting two Vibrants GPS fixed. I am sharing this to hopefully help someone else who is as frustrated as I was. I am not here to debate what Samsung or T-Mobile should or should not have done. This is not a magic software fix or discovering something hidden. It is just using what was already in place to get the phones fixed and hope this helps at least one person. here goes...
My best friend Tom and I purchased our Vibrants on the same day. Both have a production date of 7/17/2010. Since day one my GPS has never really worked. There were a few times I would get a glimpse of it working but then would quickly stop. Tom's GPS has been good, not fantastic but okay. Neither of us use them driving but do use them for walking and bike riding.
As many of us I had high hopes JI6 would be the magic fix but for me it made it worse. Tom's phone was still about the same. My phone is/was rooted and I have tried a number of fixes and ROMs but nothing has helped. Tom's phone has never been rooted.
So a few weeks ago my frustration got to me and I decided something had to be done. Since the phone has a manf warranty on it I decided to contact Samsung to hopefully resolve this issue. And with a little pressure from me Tom did the same to get his working better. I felt Samsung's support was great and explained the problems, they did have me go through some minor testing but I stressed I had also already done those tests but still did what they told me as I know they are just doing their job. Samsung gave me two choices to either return to T-Mobile or send it in. They quickly sent us prepaid two-day air labels and our phones went out for repair.
Little over a week and both phones were back. In looking at the repair emails it seems that Samsung had only tested and reinstalled the OS. Okay, this was a bit bothersome knowing this was all that was done but thought I would see the results. First up Tom's phone. His now worked perfect. Locks on 6 to 8 birds in about 10 seconds. Going on walks it was spot on. Mine, well not so much luck. Out testing I went through two batteries while his worked on every test we threw at them. I called Samsung back explaining how I had tested and the results. They were very apologetic and again offered for me to send it in or return to T-Mobile. They quickly sent me a return label and off my phone went. This time I also enclosed a very detailed note explaining my tests and results.
The day my phone was shipping back the email from them said Problem found: BAD BGA Component. Solution: Replaced PBA. From my understanding the PBA is the main board but I could be wrong. I received my phone back and started testing the GPS. Hot damn! The phone sees 10 to 12 satellites and I get a lock from 4 to 8 in about 10 seconds then continues with locks on about 6 or so while testing. I have since tested it out on a number of walks and it has been quite good. My last test today (which is cloudy and snowy) was about a 4.5 mile walk around the city and included a stop in the grocery store and CardioTrainer even continued to track my walk inside the store. And sitting here at my desk inside my apartment I am getting a lock on 4 birds in just a few seconds after a reboot.
On top of the fixed GPS I have noticed an improvement of battery life. Granted it has only been a week and I don't have exact specs on this but it seems to be working longer. Also I now have GPS turned on instead of always off. Another bonus is my general signal strength on the phone is better. In the back room of my apartment I would always get zero or one bar. Now I get three and in most cases have noticed a 1 to 2 bar increase anywhere I am. I assume this is also helping battery life.
So I hope this encourages anyone else who feels like I did to just use your warranty and get it fixed. Yes you will be without your phone for a couple of weeks but hopefully the end result will be a fixed phone. Also I encourage you to be kind to the rep when you call, in a previous job I use to do tech support for a call center and know that the nice customers always got treated much better than the yelling and screaming ones. And keep in mind it might take a second return to get it fixed as it did mine. Granted if it would have required a third return I would not have been nice.
Note: A couple of the reps I spoke with at Sumsung stressed that the GPS is not designed to work in stand-alone mode. It will always need a network assist and a dataplan will also be needed. I asked one of them why they were stressing that and he told me that so many of the calls regarding GPS were people without datapalns. It did not surprise me that the mobile network is needed. I did do one quick test with data turned off and I get nothing on the GPS.
All previous & post testing was done with JI6 so I had something to compare. But now I am running Nero 5 and still GPS has been great!
So that is it, I hope this helps someone!
-mg
Nero 5 cured my GPS! Honestly.
No other Rom did.
Actually if u order a new placement your gps will most, likely work.
They've changed all their refurbs gps or something, so your right.
thanks for sharing your story

Since Nero 5 is based on Samsung's KA5 leak, did you ever try just the stock KA5 rom to see if you got similar results? Perhaps Nero 5 is just inheriting certain fixes which you're assuming are exclusive to Nero 5 when they could actually be common to any/all KA5 based rom?
I did the mechanical fix and that made seeing and locking exponentially better, I always had some sat action, but now, i got 15 sats the other days 8 lock....... insane
Installing Axura rom with JL5 gets me 9/12 sats. My GPS locks on and starts working within 10s. I did purchase a refurbished Vibrant so maybe they changed a part on my phone.

Every Vibrant has a date code under the battery. Anything November 2010 and later, I believe is using newer GPS parts. This definitely true of many new phones but also may be true of refurbished phones as well.

I guess KA5 may be a fix for some or even mine but it was clear a hardware fix did work as JI6 did not before but then did after. My frustration just got to me last month and sent it out! I really hope KA5 helps people that will be great!

I had thought about the mechanical fix but decided I should get Samsung to do it since it was under warranty. This way I would not risk voiding my warranty for when it was needed. I can't afford a new phone right now!
i just got a new phone after a warranty replacement...and i just tested my old phone and my new one...my old one would find 1 gps satellite and and then lose it, never locking on....when google maps found me..the smallest it is ever accurate is within 100 meters...and this is after like a minute
i tested my replacement model and i turned on google maps...not more than 1/2 a second, it locked on within 4 meters...i also got 10 satellites in 3 seconds and locked onto 9 of them in about 10 seconds
agreed with OP, if you are having problems with GPS, and are under warranty, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT...do not open your phone, or anything risky when this is such a viable option
also...i got my replacement in 4 business days

Having issues? Exchange it!

So I bought my tf300 a couple weeks ago, right off the bat my stock launcher and browser were force closing or not responding every 10-20 minutes. The keyboard would glitch out all the time. I cleared cache on everything and it worked for a bit but it kept coming back. After about a week I took it back to best buy, they didn't even look at it, they grabbed me another one and I couldn't be happier.
My assumption is that in an attempt to lower the price, Asus used cheaper parts and there is a few duds out there. Though it did seem to be a software error...
tl;dr: If your having issues, exchange it. This is an awesome tablet, just thought I would share.

Great advice and I'm glad to see you are satisfied with your tablet!
I'm actually surprised to see how many will keep a defective item and complain about it daily. I give an item 5-7 days including technical support. If I find I am not happy with an item by that time, I set up an RMA. If the replacement unit works I'm happy; if not, I simply move on to the next device.
I've had more issues with defective hardware in laptops than anything else. And that's saying a lot since I only purchase high end but stuff happens.

Brand new Note4 freeze and reboot

Humm...I'm probably one of the unlucky one. I received my note4 yesterday, and the phone kept freeze on me. Once it happened, I have to pull the battery, if I don't eventually it will reboot by itself. I have tried twice factory reset and also removed the sdcard but no help. I haven't install any third party apps except for FB and FB messenger. I called VZ tech support and they told me they didn't see any of my issue being reported yet. They also nice enough tried to located any local verizon store so I can just swap out my phone there, guest what, I'm an unlucky guy. No one has the white one in stock (they do have black one). So I called back VZ and they said they are going to overnight a new one out but I need to pay 299$ deposit (bill to my account, no need to put on credit card). Once I sent back the old device, they will credit back to my account, which is not bad. I just want to post this out here and if anyone ever has issue with your note 4 please feel free to post your experience and how you resolved the issue. Hopefully no one should need to post their issue, it's not FUN at all. Thanks!!!:crying:

Mine froze and rebooted once. I was looking at some pictures on photos backed up to Google+. Didn't do it anymore since than.
I think I found the issue. Every time I put the phone in "Battery saving" mode, let it sits for about 1 hrs and bang it froze. I removed and it's working great. In battery saving mode, the phone is a bit stuttering and laggy and little warm even very low usage, however without saving mode, it super smooth and flying. Well anyway I'm getting a new one from Verizon next week. You guys should try out the battery saving mode to see if you have any issue...Also I heard that they released an update xxxJ4 for note4 which suppose to increase battery life and added more stability but I don't see it for the Verizon model, is anyone has the info on this???
EDIT: nope just froze and reboot again...

You aren't alone. I had to return my Note 4 for the same issue. So far the Samsung rep at Best Buy says it's only effecting VZW phones and it has to do with an update Samsung pushed out. VZW adds crap to their updates and according to Samsung Field Service Support at 8pm CST on Thursday there were 7 issues. We tried factory resetting and a fresh software reload directly from Samsung to no avail .

Now I feel better, others do have issue too. Hey thanks for the reply.. If issue caused by an update, I would think more people will be impacted by this?
verizon Note 4 freeze and reeboot
New to forums and postings. This is my 3rd note product, had the 2, 3 and just received the Note 4 3 days ago. Let me start by saying 1 word. FRUSTRATING.....
i have had this p.o.s freeze and reeboot on me not less than 10 times a day since out of the box. It happpens when sitting still, typing, viewing videos, plugged in, not plugged in, case on or off. VERIZON says sorry sir, we have no updates or other reported problems. I Guess the only saving grace is it reboota itself. I sont have to take battey out. My son gote Note 4 at same time...same carrier and no problems. Wife got new note 3 same day hers freezes and she has to pop out battery. New note 4 and note 3 replacements on way. Worst phone i have owned to date.
You are not alone my T-Mobile note 4 is unstable too.
This appears to be a worldwide problem. Many Note4 users are complaining the same thing in my country. IMHO, it could be exynos' problem.
I am still on Kitkat, occasional problems are caused by SwiftKey, which doesn't load sometimes, but I never experienced something like you describe.

I've had my Note 4 for nearly a year now, and I don't think it has ever frozen. Clearly, you guys have defective phones.

Had to send my Axon 7 to the repair center already. Anyone else having weird issues

Long story short, after loading my phone with a diff launcher and some apps the phone got caught in this loop where it would show the original background for a second or two and screen go blank then come on again and blank, even after a restart and a factory reset, weird. Support told me it would have to be re-flashed and to send it in, repair center is in Grapevine, TX BTW.
I had 3 options to fix
1. Return to repair center for re-flashing - I choose this
2. Do an adv. exchange with B&H in which I may get a new or refurb phone, no new phones for a few weeks I was told
3. Buyers remorse, return back to B&H within 30 days, get new phone, again 3 week wait
I sold my Zenfone 2 on swappa the first weekend I had new phone so with no phone @ all I decided on OPTION 1 also to make sure that my phone is still new to me and not a refurb. Off to a rocky start with first ZTE, ugh
At least they are repairing it for you. Waiting for a UK release but hearing so many issues with the axon 7 it's putting me off !

That's one of the reasons I decided to go for the OP3 instead of the A7. The A7 seems to have a good amount of hardware advantages over the OP3 on paper, but browsing in the forums I see too many people having random issues.
Sure, it's a new phone and they can have issues, but coupled with the less than optimal software choices ZTE made on the phone (in my opinion) I decided the A7 probably wasn't worth the hassle.

Yes I tried a factory reset and didn't load any apps the second time around, same looping issue, hope it's not a HW issue, wait and see for now
