Gmail phonebook - I dont want it !? - XPERIA X10 General

I must check Gmail datasync in Settings so my e-mails can be synced but then my phonebook gets al those Gmail contacts ! How can I unlink that so it does not touch my phonebook, only Gmail app and e-mail in there ? I have used to do it before but now I dont remember how.
Tnx a lot

Found it:
Go to Settings and then click on Accounts & Sync and click on your gmail email, then uncheck contacts.
But I cannot click on Gmail, just put or remove tick, instead I must enable Google Sync and there uncheck Contacts. Hope it will help someone.

[Q] Google Sync On but not in the Contact Display

1st post. Glad to join this forum
Need some asssitance and i can't figure this out. Under "Accounts And Sync" i have added my Gmail account. Sync is on and i refreshed all calendar, contacts, and gmail sync successfully.
When i click on Contacts Display Options, I don't see my gmail contacts to display.
I have Phone, Sim, Facebook..but no gmail?
I don't get it, but when i manage accounts, my gmail account is there and Sync is ON.
Help Please.
Seem to be having the same problem... But not with my gmail account... but my others like facebook and myspace syncs. they're always showing up (0) in contacts. Very seldomly does it show my contacts from those. One minute they're there... next minute (0) again.

[Q] Double Contacts

I know there is a ton of threads on this, but I can't seem to find an answer. I am using imilka's Glacier Sense v1.3 and I have all my contacts doubled. How can I fix this?
Thank you in advance.

Check by pressing the windows key when in the people/contacts which accounts you have selected to show, if you have phone and google choose just one. if you only have google, sign into gmail on your pc, select contacts on the left and then you can merge duplicates. on your phone resync google contacts under settings, accounts and sync, google account, and it should do it for you.

I have gmail and facebook both on there. I went into gmail and unchecked the option to sync with contacts. Should I leave this one checked and not facebook? I want to have my friends profile pics auto sync to my contacts. I did try to uncheck gmail but everything is still doubled. Will signing into gmail and doing what you said, have any effect if I want facebook to sync?

depends how you originally imported your contacts and where you saved them.
If on first boot you enabled them through a previous android build keep google contacts sync on.
The facebook side of things will sync your contacts, but not right away, it will try and match existing ones and give you a notification that contacts can be linked and let you check the right facebook profile is being synced with the correct contact.
Check you have nothing under sim card and phone accounts showing also.
Well I deleted everything data/cache with CWM. So I thought that would of cleared everything. I also did a full wipe of my SD card. I then flashed the glacier rom with CWR. I did however find a very easy fix to the contact problem. I was able to click view inside the contacts tab and uncheck any accounts that were set to sync contacts. So now my contacts only show up one entry. Now my problem is when I send a text, the contacts are still doubled. I am not sure how to fix that one..

contacts galore

All the sudden i have ALL contacts and contact info from face book, gmail and everything!! I have contacts from everywhere i have contacts all balled up in to one irritating place.... my phone. how do i get the contacts from Outlook ONLY on my phone?
in the people app, hit menu-view, and unselect the contacts you dont want to see
Thanks for the reply but i would be here till tuesday. was hoping there is a way to Un sync with gmail and or hotmail etc.
Reflash your rom after you run a superwipe and only synch what u want
Support TrevE! Fuh Q CIQ!
Go into settings then accounts and choose each account and unsync the contacts from them. Also in people you can go into settings and choose only show those with phone numbers. Just hides the others. If u go into your mail client and type a name the email addresses r still there

Well the method I gave will still keep those accounts syncing, but just not show the contacts in the contacts app. If you want to completely stop those accounts from syncing, go to settings-accounts and sync, and uncheck any accounts you dont want syncing.
thanks, I now see why my battery was being drained as well.

Need help on Contacts and Call Log

Hello,
I am a new user of Galaxy S4 with Android 4.4.2 (first time Android user) and I have issues with the contacts how it is at present and wanted your help to get those resolved.
Note:
I have Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Skype, Exchange account, WhatsApp are synced in the device, but I have disabled Contact Sync for all of these. So now if I go to Contacts screen I can see only Device Contacts which is GOOD .
Issue 1: Search
When I search for contact in the contacts screen the search result includes contacts from Gmail, WhatsApp etc as well along with the device contacts. How can we get rid of these?
From where contact search pull these Gmail contacts even if those are not available inside contacts screen? Same happen when I search for contacts from Compose message screen.
Issue 2: Call Log
The Call Log by default include all Call Log and Message Log. We do have a View Filter where we can set ALL Calls Only and this is a temporary fix for the view to show only Call Log. Next time I open Log I see both of them. Is there a way I can fix this?
Thanks.
It's coz you must have previously synced your contatcs with Gmail / fb. Try deleting them all and adding them again from the backup. Also check the truecaller settings if any.

Thanks river-mystique, Yes when I setup the device with the Gmail ID it did auto synced contacts and later I disabled the Sync. So how can I remove all contacts and restore from backup? Or I need to factory Reset and Sync with Samsung Account? Also no True Caller.
Another question: If I factory reset and Sync with Samsung account (Where I have my contacts and SMS synced) and setup Gmail Again, will the device try to sync Gmail Contact again, as during device setup with Gmail there is no Option to disable Sync types. I think it is only available after the device is configured.
Thanks.

Why can't I stop Facebook from syncing contacts?

I have tried multiple times to stop facebook from syncing contacts. The only way i've managed to stop it is by removing facebook. Now, obviously i'm doing something wrong.
Can someone point me into the right direction? I have actually unchecked "sync contacts" under facebook in accounts...but when i checked to see if it was still unchecked a couple
hours later...it was checked. Now everytime i want to text someone (as i type in their name) my phone contacts AND facebook contacts show. HATE IT lol Help

Did you turn off facebook contacts in your contacts app?
Inside Contacts, hit the three dot icon then settings then contacts then contacts to display, and then select your gmail (or which ever contacts list you use). It's defaulted to all contacts, so maybe that's why you still see facebook contacts.

yes sir i did...do you think after i installed facebook and had it installed for a bit that it synced FB contacts already...so even after i turned sync off it was too late? I'm not worried about the contact list though. I can choose what contacts i see in the contacts app. Thats no problem. It's when i compose a new text message...that's when ALL contacts show up. Phone and FB
Check the FB Messenger app if you have that installed; it also has an option to sync
The Facebook app itself also has an option to sync. In the app settings, it gives you 3 options under "Other Settings" - Sync all (which is what it's doing on your phone), Sync with existing contacts (which only syncs Facebook info with contacts you have on your phone), and Remove Facebook data (which removes all Facebook info from your contacts; it may also be called Don't sync).

Thank you guys. Finally found the option in the actual FB app. I was always looking under "accounts" in main settings. Thanks again
