You can extract the kies installation package with 7zip or similar. Navigate to CabFile/USB Driver. Unarchive the cab package. You will get the USB drivers installer. Run this.
WHS ^^ Just done that on my win 7 X64 box. Works a treat

I've ran the installer however the device is still listed as unknown within windows device manager. I've also tried installing the latest version of bloatware kies and factory reset the phone. I've tried installing on both x86 win 7 & xp but the device is never recognised, I would put it down to the galaxy wire malfunctioning but it does manage to charge when plugged into the USB
Can anyone provide me with the specific drivers for galaxy S or know which of the folders within ..\SAMSUNG\usb_drivers\ is specifically for the galaxy?

This may sound extremely stupid, but make sure you are using the original cable that came with the phone, that sorted out all the problems for me.
I got mine today, fired up kies and found it horrendous so uninstalled it, I changed it to Mass-usb device from the settings menu, need to mount it but no other issues

Team,
For those of you having trouble finding drivers here are some links.
64bit:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
32bit:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
For Linux and Mac the Android SDK drivers should work fine.
I don't know if it is a conflict with my AV or something else, but when I use the x86 drivers linked, my phone will shut off completely when attaching with "PC Internet" option in the USB settings.

yes they have... This feels redundant. also add in that if you're a nub just install kies and it will auto dl the correct drivers you need.

Also on a mac you do not need the sdk. You do need to be in debugging mode though.
Also, you could just go to the Captivate webpage on Samsung's site and get the Captivate drivers, not the generic Galaxy S drivers linked in the OP.
thanks was looking for these!
In Windows 7 I'm not having an easy time getting the phone to be recognized. If I click Start > Devices and Printers it shows up as Samsung_Android but even Kies won't recognize the phone so something is wrong. I also can no longer mount my external SD card and have it show up in Windows. I tried to uninstall all the drivers and reinstall but it keeps telling me there are already drivers installed...soo..... *shrugs*

I had this problem on my desktop as well. I was using a front USB port on my computer and when I plugged it into one of the back ports, it worked. I also found the USB cable that came with the phone to work better than a cable I had lying around. Try different ports and if all else fails, try a different cable.
So here's something bizarre. I've been using my PC (Win 7 64bit) for weeks now with my Captivate and no issues. Had originally had woes when I got it, but it started working. Anyway, today I plug it in and ... it doesn't recognize it. Have installed / changed NOTHING -- only M$ patches have been applied. Tried to roll back prior and get the lovely BSOD probably because I have 4 SATA Raptors RAID-0'd and M$ doesn't know how to use that, but has anyone else seen this behavior before?
And to add to this. I rebooted my phone and now it works again. Very odd but problem solved.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
ive been trying for weeks and trying all three, generic Galaxy S, AT&T captivate drivers and Kies and can't get anything working in USB Mass storage mode or Kies mode...
This is on Windows 7 64bit. Driving me crazy. USB mode wont install the Mass storage drivers and Kies wont recognize
My issue is that when I connect the phone on Windows 7 32bit the phone and the internal SD card will connect but one I try to click on anything inside the phone or card the phone will immediately disconnect and then reconnect. When I try to click again it will repeat the disconnection. After that, I don't even have to click on the phone or card directories, it will disconnect then reconnect about 6 more times. Eventually it will be stable and not disconnect. This is extremely annoying. Anyone else with this issue.

Hi all,
Yesterday I stayed till 3 AM trying to flash the new firmware to my 9100, but KIES was so unstable that I decided to re-install.
We all know if we simply install Kies under XP, there is an issue with an Android MTP driver failing to install. No matter what you do, it won't install. This is the driver that Kies requires to work in order to sync contents and flash new firmwares.
After trying different options and settings, the solution is quite simple. Follow the steps (XP tested):
1.- Remove Kies entirely.
2.- Remove Samsung USB Drivers
3.- Reboot.
4.- Install latests .NET framework.
5.- Download and install latest Windows Media Player (ver 11 for XP). This is the key, since it installs a User mode driver framework used by Kies.
6.- Reboot
7.- Download and install latest Kies. Reboot.
6.- Plug in your phone. It will detect everything.
8.- Start Kies.
This should make it.
Hope it helps!
Cherni.
I had Rooted and Custom ROM-ed with AOSP GingerMOD.
Then when connected to PC via cable, W7 failed to install MTP driver.
Heres what worked.
Turn off USB Debugging on the phone. Reconnect via USB storage mode.
Voila!
Am not using Samsung Kies. so dont know whether it will work with the same trick.

He said version 11 for xp lol.
BTW, for those of you with windows 7 enterprise N - The "N" means no multimedia drivers, so media player would not be enough.
You need to download some 300+MB package which I don't remember the name. and then media player.
I meant W7!
Well I just tried this and it didn't work, am losing hope here...I already tried everything and nothing works

All this started when I updated from version 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 through KIES
Hi, were you able to solve? I'm stuck at the same point, tried almost everything and i'm still getting the MFT driver error with my Galaxy S 2.
OS is WinXP 32bit, I tried before with Kies version 2.0.3.11082_152_2, then yesterday with 2.0.3.11082_152_4, no luck.
I tried the suggested Windows Media Player 11 procedure, i did the whole process as written in the 1st post (installed .net 4, then WMP11, then reboot, then Kies, then reboot again) and it didn't worked.
Before that i tried with USB debugging mode, i tried following what Kies says (connect device, got the error, disconnect the device then go to "tool -> the crap that should be supposed to repair drivers but that truly does nothing", then reconnect the device just to get the error again), I tried a tool i found somewhere on the internet while reading HUNDREDS of pages of users having the same error (Samsung engineers, that means that you really SUCK!) "FileSearcherforKiesFix" to find files with long extension on my SD, deleted some files (was only some thumbnails), NOPE, still getting the same F****n' error
So, were you able to solve in some way this error? How?
Thank you for your help, and sorry for my english (i'm Italian).
and if that doesn't work...try a different USB port on your computer. I have found that only one of the 4 on my t410 thinkpad plays nicely with the samsung usb drivers...
having said that, i have sworn off kies entirely and will only use Odin,
I'm on the Galaxy SII and was having similar problems. Went to the samsung website, DLed the USB driver, then to get the MTP to work: Turn off Debugging, go into "wireless and network", then into USB Utilities, unplug usb, click connect to PC, then plugged it back in, and bingo, we have a winner.
I didn't read the entire thread to see if this method was already posted, to f'ing tired!
Hopes this helps.
edit: looks like Kragusk did a similar (exactly the same?) install. So yeah, what he said....
the fix
This fix for windows XP was discovered by a chap named Dennis.
The problem is caused by some drivers from WMP11 failing to install correctly.
(WMP11 contains the MTP drivers, nothing to do with Samsung or USB drivers)
You just need to re/install them
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\wudfrd.sys xxx_wudfrd.sys
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\wudfpf.sys xxx_wudfpf.sys
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfhost.exe xxx_wudfhost.exe
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfsvc.dll xxx_wudfsvc.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfx.dll xxx_wudfx.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfplatform.dll xxx_wudfplatform.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfcoinstaller.dll xxx_wudfcoinstaller.dll
Then run this file (umdf.exe) found inside the windows media player 11 install
(Hint: download then open in winrar to find the file)
Sorry as a new person I can't post a hotlink to a file.

Go to Samsung Kies software, on top left of the window, click the menu > Driver recovery.
Let it reinstall drivers
After driver installation finished, go to your phone, Settings> Application > Development, tick USB debugging mode.
Under USB debugging mode connect your phone to the PC with USB.
It installs correctly!
Disconnect from PC
Untick USB debugging mode
Connect again
and it works!

Currently Running CM7 and I want to ODIN back to stock, however every time i plug my phone to my PC the screen prompts on the lower right task bar "Installing Drivers", then i get a notification saying can't install drivers. I've tried almost everything, installing the nexus s drivers, samsung kies, and the AIO vibrant toolbox. I just can't seem to get my phone to install on my pc. Without my phone being able to plug into my PC, I can't odin back to stock because the computer doesn't read the phone. Can anyone help me with this problem?
Have you tried downloading the SDK manager and loading them from there?
same thing happened to me, first you have to find out what kind of op system ur pc is using (32 bit, 64 bit, or 86) then reinstall the driver and that should fix ur problem
samsung vibrant usb driver for windows 7 problem
I need help. I have tried to connect my PC which runs windows 7 but I couldn't install driver for w7. I have tried with lies mini but it didn't work. By the way I am using ics on my phone. Could you help me find driver for t mobile Samsung vibrant sgh t959 for windows 7. Thanks anyway.
You should be able to go into device manager and find your drivers that are already installed. "Forget" or delete them. Reboot your phone (just in case) and your computer and once both are booted up, plug your phone into the USB and W7 should be able to pull the correct drivers on-line. Has worked for me in the past.
i did what you said but windows 7 couldn't install driver. i am not sure what problem is but so annoying. i need to find some solution!
Have you tried to install the drivers before connecting the phone? Have you first tried to uninstall any old drivers? Also which drivers are you using?
go to Samsung website --> search for t959 and select it from the results --> support on the upper right --> Manuals and Downloads tab --> Software tab --> Drivers are first item
Hello, I am having a rather strange problem. My PC did the dreaded auto upgrade to windows 10 the other day and I also got a new Nexus 6P. It seems my computer won't recognize my phone, at all, when I plug it in via USB. It's not even showing up in the device manager as a problem, it's like nothing happens at all.
I have
- downloaded and installed the latest google usb driver (right click install)
- downloaded the latest mtp drivers
- downloaded official nexus package from Huawei
- installed ADB and android SDK and also reinstalled the drivers from the SDK manager.
- downloaded some update for windows media player as someone mentioned that could be the problem
- tried different cables
- tried different ports (usb 3 too)
I am really at a loss. My work computer works just fine with it so I know the phone and the cable are okay and other things work on those ports on my home computer. By the way the computer is Windows 10 pro - 64bit

Have you installed Google USB Driver for nexus 6p? If not, download Google USB Driver, extract it and save it in your any name folder that you can locate it later, plug n6p in your pc or laptop and it should pop up with USB option to select either file transfer or picture transfer, click one of them, Windows should be able to find n6p driver, if not, go to setting on your pc, device manager, then look at highlighted USB of your nexus 6p whether it is properly installed, if not, then install it by finding the driver that you extracted in that specific folder... Hoping this works for you.

Thanks for the response, but yea I already got the new usb drivers and installed them via right click install. Did you install x64 driver from Google USB Driver? Check to see to make sure your USB android debugging is checked. It is kind of odd, try to reboot your pc and nexus 6p, then plug your phone in different USB port if your pc has extra USB port..

Ah I see what you are referring to. Well, here is the thing, how do I install those drivers? Remember I cant find it device manager to update the drivers. The only way I could find to install them was to right click the android_winusb.inf file and choose install. It said it installed okay, but of course its not working. Any idea?
By the way, I also have usb debugging on and usb configuration WAS set to MTP, but I just changed it to try the different variations, but now its stuck on charging and wont change to MTP, but I think its because the phone isnt being recognized by the computer because this morning at the office I was able to change the usb type to mtp and the others, but that computer recognized the phone... AGHHHH WTF

Okay hold on, still having problems. Well, now the computer dings when I plug it in, but it still doesnt show up. However when I change the phone usb to PTP the phone becomes visible on the pc in windows explorer (but still not in device manager) and when I put it to MTP it disconnects and I cant see it in windows explorer anymore, and still cant find it in device manager... Did you figure out the problem? I'm having the exact same problem with mine and with USB mode not switching from Charging and the PC not even recognizing a USB device was plugged in.
I found using a different cable solved my problem. Don't really know why cause the first one I used seemed fine and worked to charge it, but by using a different one, Win 10 recognized it and got me in the game.
trying to get some help for my ZE551ML 4gb - unrooted and with the latest update
I have never had an issue plugging my phone into my pc and transferring files. I bought my daughter a BLU R1HD and that wont wont show up on any pc when plugged into USB...yes dev and debug is enabled.....installed a bunch of different drivers to try to get that phone to work and it wont....
but worse is now my phone wont show up.
I went to the main thread here and located drivers and installed, and nothing....went to asus support and dl drivers and nothing...
does anyone know why or how i can get the drivers installed on my W10 PC so I can plug phone into usb and transfer files?
In the pc's device manager, is the device listed there? And is there a yellow mark on the device name? Maybe the drivers didn't install properly, you can right click on the device and click update driver, then choose automatically, you must be connect to the internet for it to find the required driver and install automatically.
I had same issue. Makw sure phone is not. Plugged into the pc. Load up windows into safe mode with networking. Once there open device manager. From the pulldown menu choose show hidden devices then find the Asus drivers and uninstall and if available tick the box that says delete the driver.. reboot, reinstall.... Done.
This will work for most usb devices that are having issues.

sadly this did not work. I grabbed the drivers from the ZF2 resource thread here at XDA

for the BLU R1HD I was told to install these

whih i did and also uninstalled and resinstalled along with the intel drivers.
I did exactly as explained above and the device will not show up.

Reboot the pc with the "disable driver signature verification" option and then reinstall the drivers.
This may or may not have some relevance to your problem. Try downloading a program called USB Device Viewer, run it as an administrator and uninstall all the phone drivers that are listed. Reboot your computer, plug your ZE551ML in and let it install the drivers. Hope this is of some help.
