It puts a custom recovery on your SD card which you can use to backup restore and flash roms, the app can be found on the market and does this all for you
The app also allows you to download roms, backup and flash right from the app so you don't have to even touch the recovery yourself
Root access is required
Would definitely recommend it works very well for me
it is a paid app...
its a free app, but theres also a premium license so you can download roms from within rom manager

Why does no one research before posting
Firstly it is a free app, you can choose to get premium
And no you can download roms within the free app, you don't need to pay for that, you only need to pay for ota custom roms and scheduled back UPS
Once rooted do you still need to have your GoldCard in the phone to use this?

No you do not, possibly if you choose to unroot your phone it may be required again
Also you can use it to install rom, theme, zip that is stored on your sd card!
Not sure if this is correct, I was reading a few posts about Rom manager, apparently if you were to save your apps/settings using the free version of rom manager the apps would not be updateable in the market. You would have to have the paid version of rom manager if you want to be able to update your apps. Is this correct

No. It's a bug that happens sometimes (same goes for Titanium). Usually, downloading any app from the Market solves it.

Which one do you guys prefer? Flashing with Rom manager or flash manually through recovery?
So if I'm right, with the app, I can just do everything from the app which I normally have to do manually by going to fastboot and recovery? It just automates the whole process of:
turning device off
hold vol down and power up
go into recovery
do whatever you would do in recovery

When you tap to flash a rom it asks if you want to wipe. You can also manually reboot into recovery and there is a wipe option in there.

Sorry for bumping this old thread.
But, I have a question.
Can Rom Manager do a FULL wipe of the system? Thus also the boot en system?

Cant Book into Clockwork

I downloaded and installed the nero beta 3 and now I am trying to install nero v1 from rom manager. When I click to make a backup it restarts but puts me in the android boot loader. I do not have an option for backing up. I flashed clockwork twice but still no success.
Did u click reinstall packages or something
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
That is an option in the android boot loader but I did not click that.
I believe its the Rom manager that'd having problems. I reverted back to prior update of rom manager, and it worked. Dont update the latest one in the market. If u have auto, uncheck that, so it wouldn't update your rom manager.

To get into the clockwork after u flash it click reinstall packages and it should reboot and go back to stock mode and click reinstall again and it should come with green text and its clockwork.
If that doesn't work try another idea.

Need help with "new" version of CWM for Fascinate

There's a new version of CWM in this link for the Froyo leak of Fascinate: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937499
I got Froyo just fine, but I just noticed as I'm trying to install a Froyo theme for Fascinate. I'm having trouble getting the new CWM Recovery to "take". Now when I go through ROM Manager to Reboot Into Recovery, it takes me to the stock recovery, but going to "Update.zip" makes a loading bar load about 1/4 of the bar, then it reboots, shows Samsung logo, and is back at stock recovery. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, any help? Is there any .TAR of the new CWM, so I can maybe use Odin to force it on? Thanks.
Get rid of the theme. That's probably the problem. And this should be posted under general or in the thread of whatever ROM you're using.

Oh good, I love Odin and I was hoping for such a file. I'll try this when I get home, thanks!
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Posted this in another thread but this is how I did it.
Download the first file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021 and rename it recovery-update.zip put it in the clockworkmod folder on sd card, replacing the old recovery-update.zip.
Download the following file and place it at the root of your sd card, make sure its named update.zip.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17566514/update.zip use it to get into cwm.
Then boot to recovery, (apply update if you get blue writing, choose apply sdcard:update.zip). Once in green cwm choose to "install zip from sd card,"
navigate to your clockworkmod folder then choose the recovery-update.zip file.
Lastly go back to the main options and choose "apply sdcard:update.zip." you should be good to go now!
CWM should be red for now on, and should say voodoo lagfix.
Enjoy! I hope that clears things up!
I can't get past the blue I think when I get home I am odining everything back to normal

Taka, I don't have or want voodoo, does that make a difference?

This version says Voodoo but isn't, the programmer was to lazy to change that (or a voodoo update for froyo will be here soon). Also the bitmap error happens to everyone so don't worry about it.

Well you have Froyo, you must be using a ROM even if it is stock. Did you follow the directions closely when installing Froyo? And there are no custom kernels for DL30 so no worries about accidentally putting on voodoo.
Ahhhh!
I am having problems with CWM to the point where I can't install any roms nor can I reboot into CWM recovery. I just flashed DL09 and I am trying to flash froyo but I kinda need CWM to work in order to do that... I have an odin package for the version of CWM I supposedly need but it doesn't work, so should I go back to an older one?
Cant get to Green anymore
I updated to Froyo last week and everything is working fine except my battery life sucks...
Im going to upgrade to EB01 and try Super Clean
Ive installed the new CWM but I cant get to Green Recovery anymore.
Everytime I run update.zip, it simply brings up the Blue Recovery.
Try Taka's post on the first page. It worked for me, I'm now rocking the red CWM and running Incognito.

If you are trying to run a Froyo ROM, even without voodoo, then in this situation you will be using a RED CWM.
Specifically, the one that was posted earlier or can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
Even though it is red, even though you don't want voodoo, this really is the correct cwm for Froyo at this time.

Chances are that when you backed up with Rom manager it did not actually do a backup. On a phone where Rom manager does work the backup function in Rom manager just reboots your phone into clockwork and starts the backup automatically for you. Since Rom manager does not work with the epic, I'm assuming this did not happen.

The alternative is that one you have clockwork installed, power down the phone. Then hold volume down, camera button, and power button all at the same time. It d should boot into clockwork. Make and restore your backups from there.

Bought Evo on eBay... has s-off but recovery goes to red triangle

Ok bought an evo on eBay, after getting rid of my evo for a blackberry and realizing I made a huge mistake. It's used but like new.
I go to the boot screen and it says s-off. Then I select recovery but it goes to an evo with a red triangle.
What can I do?
Thanks

If you can acess the bootloader, I would recommend searching in the rooting wiki and look for a PCIMG file place that in the root of the sd card(hopefully your comp has a media reader) and insert the sd card with that file and the bootloader should detect when you select recovery.
What that file does is resets everything on the phone to stock. if you could find a RUU that might work but if your comp cant see the phone its useless i hope this helps
oh hey just stole this from a post from mattykins(thanks for the link) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060

If you're s off, your rooted. The triangle means you have no recovery. All you need to do is flash a PC36IMG of recovery, using the bootloader. Once you do that, you'll have recovery, and can flash a rom of your choice. That's it. No need to re root or ruu or anything like that. Just recovery, that's it.

This would probably be the easiest thing. DL clockwork from the market and install the recovery I prefer amon_ra it will be at the bottom under alternate recoveries. Also do a nand backup as soon as you have a recovery.
I agree with above, just get rom manager from the market and flash a recovery...simple
We're comin from a pure power source.

SUre, give me one sec to upload a file for you. And as the other guys suggested, flashing a recovery using ROM manager would be your easiest bet. HOWEVER, if you dont have the SUPER USER app, (which i bet you do not), rom manager wont work. t herefore you cant flash anything with it.
So give me one sec, and i'll upload what you need to flash, with instructions for ya
EDIT: I attatched a recovery for you. It's Amon Ra V2.3. Download the PC36IMG, and leave it named exactly as it is. Place the file on the main directory (root) of your sd card. Power your phone off completely. Then boot to the bootloader by holding the power and volume down buttons simultaneously. When it gets to the bootloader, after a sec it will scan for files, and find the PC36IMG. It will then ask you if you want to update, so select yes (volume UP). Once it's done flashing, it'll ask you to reboot. Select no. Then choose the 'recovery' option from the bootloader menu. You should now successfully boot into Amon Ra V2.3 recovery. From that point, you can create a backup of your current setup. Then you can perform a full wipe, and then flash the rom of your choice.
And what ever you do DON'T restore a nandroid from your old phone. You will wipe out your 4g if the wimax partition is included in the nandroid.

Ok that worked. I now have Amon ra recovery
But, lol, one more question. Amon ra has changed since I've had an evo.. now when I select backup, it has a list of things I want to back up with "[x]" next to them. Which items should I select? It didn't have that feature in the past so I'm a little lost.

Right, that feature was added after version 1.8.0 (which I still use). I believe you want to check all of the boxes, for your first backup. (I'm not sure if you need to have everything checked after that, but I'm sure it couldn't hurt). I've seen people say that you only need to back up your wimax one time, then keep the file in a safe place (it's your RSA keys), however I just can't see what the problem is with backing it up each time. I kind of like the simplicity of 1.8.0, just hit backup and let it do it's thing. Whatever the heck 1.8.0 automatically backs up on its own, works perfectly fine for me, lol.
So I would just check everything off, and then let it perform the backup.
EDIT: and sorry I don't have more info on that for ya. I'm sure someone else who regulrarly uses ar 2.3 will chime in, and give you a more solid answer. I just simply don't use that recovery, as I never saw a need to 'upgrade' from 1.8.0, because it has always worked flawlessly for me. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'd say you could use 1.8.0 if you wanted to, but I believe it won't work on the 004 hardware phones with the 0040000 size erase block.
Ok cool.
Thanks again
And yes i remember the simple way, things are supposed to get easier as time goes on, not more complicated, haha!
