Is there any way that you can turn off the 3g to save battery because on other android phones like the g1 it allows to turn off the 3g and seeing this is the first 4g phone EVEERRRRRR!!! i think it should have some way to turn off the 3g capability to save battery,,any suggestions
You are able to turn off 3G completely by going to Apps>Settings>Wireless Networks>Uncheck Mobile Network
yea but there gotta b a way without disabling the internet
No way because voice and data are 2 separate signals and cant be used simultaneously. The 3g is the thing that kills the battery because it is always looking for a better signal. If you turn that off, voice will stay at "1x", thus saving battery and you can still receive sms and mms
can't find a thread here, but can I switch off 3G on a HD2? Optus in Sydney has no 3G reception sometimes. But the HD2 still thinks it's on. It can call out, but nobody can call in (gets msg 'phone is off'). Data/sms don't come in.
Optus admits it's their 3G, solution is to use 2G. I can't find the option
Touch tools
Touch tools will add an extra slider to your connections screen or if you look through the very first sticky in this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638 under tip#58 there is a cab that just installs that.

go to settings>wireless controls>phone>band then select GSM instead of Auto under Network type
i have turned off 3g on my phone to save me some battery
ps, tap the phone icon itself under the settings menu and not the slider (off/on) thing
I recieved this myself from HTC Support..
a simple program to do just that, turn off 3G.
No need to install, just put the file on your phone and run it (the .exe, not the .zip d: )

Is it a toggle? or does it just turn off 3G?
EDIT: This is just like the regular Data Connection Enabler / Disabler program at XDA.
Is there a registry entry to do the equivalent of what the 3G slider switch in the Comm manager does?
If anyone wants to do this (Set Netwrok to GSM) during XDA_UC through the registry
HKLM \ Software \ OEM \ UMTS
OpMode: 1
Supported Values
0 - Auto
1 - GSM
2 - WCDMA
Band Selection can also be done. Just look for the Folder "BandSelection" under UMTS.
You need to edit the value of BAND
The effect of this can be seen only after a soft reset or manually switching the network type or the bands. However the indicators (in the Comm Manager or in the Band Selection Utility) will reflect the change immediately even though the radio does not switchover to the desired Network / Band.

I support cezzarmicu with this, i do that often when i need my phone to stay longer without shutting off especially when i'm outdoors for longer times!
Simple procedure!
So, i have bugged folks on this forum about getting 3G to work on other carriers, and it turns out - it does work! At first i found out my settings were set to GSM only, but now i also found this weird inconsistency possibly a bug.
If i have Data Off after using 3G or GPRS for some time, when i turn it back on, phone would not connect to data service. After enabling it will simply time out.
I found that if i switch from GSM to WCDMA, and than back, 3G network would connect and work.
I don't know if it's specifically my phone, or a bug, so i'm just throwing it out there.

What carrier are you getting 3G to work? I doubt its working if its anything that doesn't run on tmobiles bands..the icon will come up and stuff but your either getting edge speeds or not getting any connection. I've had this phone show me 3G with full bars and just time out.. I can eveven put in a sim with a sidekick plan or other data plan and it shows 3G but it does not work
Well, i'm overseas and i have used it on Russian carrier Beeline and carriers in two other countries. Now, i do set my connection to WCDMA only, which gives me 3G icon. When i set it to GSM only, i see GPRS icon show up.
So, it does work, i use fring, online radio, google maps. But as far as speed concerned, i have not tested it.
Just ran a speed test using Speedtest.net tool, I get 3951kbps download, and 655 upload
thats 3G
Hello,
is it possible to turn off 3G to use ONLY 2G? I want to safe battery.
I could not find an option for it.
I've found this Thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478519
but it does not seem to work.
I tried every radio in town but keep on having problems, i live in an area with low cell reception and each time I loose signal I have to reboot, my phone doesnt search anymore. Is it just me?
if you haven't already, try running it set to only use 2g networks, it tends to be more resilient to short losses of signal.
Yes, but what's the use then of my data plan, if I switch to 2g? Thanks for your advice, but I need another solution.
Well firstly you still have data at 2g its just slower. I used to have. 2g/3g toggle to quickly turn on 3g when needed.
