I need to replace my X1's ribbon cable with a new one due to my screen was not functioning at all yesterday..
and they cost RM260-280 (around 70-80 USD) and our income are just about the same.. but MYR value is much more lower than USD T^T
How much did you all cost to buy a ribbon cable? or how much they've charged you in service centres to repair it?
If its still under warranty then it will be free at the service center.
on ebay are cheaper offers (in case warranty is already void), just doing a little search there...naturally not able to comment on any of the sellers

We pay around $26 for a flex + labour. Total to the customer is around $80 from us, up to $250 from others.

The flex problem is endemic to every phone with slide/flip form factor, regardless of the price. The problem with every Xperia I encountered for repairs is the cracks in the casing, which effectively voids the warranty. Yes, it may very well be SE fault, but I am not the one to rule on the subject, I just repair electronics.

I just picked up two new phones, an evo and an epic, and I was considering getting ERP for each phone. Should I get TEP instead since Sprint changed its repair policy and no longer honors the manufacturer's warranty?
Y do ppl keep saying they don't honor the many warranty?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Not sure what Sprint does but HTC will obviously honor the warranty. Send it to them and they'll fix it for free as long as its covered under the free one year HTC warranty.
Yeah, send it to them at your own expense, and wait 5-10 business days to get it back.
It also better be in pristine condition, or they won't cover it.
As far as getting TEP vs ERP. If you don't have TEP, it's 35 bucks in store. So based on how often you think you will be in the store for repair or replacement, you should make a decision.

Yeah, I figured sending it to HTC isn't an option--I can't wait that long. I guess I'll just roll w/ ERP and pay the $35 if I need to. Does anyone know if it's $35 per repair visit or $35 per thing repaired? For example, is it $35 if I get 2 things fixed at once or will it be $70?
sorry but about the warranty is this only with HTC or all the brands? and what is the difference TEP and ERP, I pay $7 at month, what am I paying for?
I sent mine to get repaired (broken digitizer; section of the screen didn't respond to touch) I had the hairline power button crack as well as a bunch of dings on the corners from dropping it. Guy on the phone said it might not be covered because of the hairline crack but it ultimately was. Cost $6 to fedex it to Texas, 6 days later it was on my doorstep with a replaced screen as well as a new black trim piece that had all the dings. If it isn't covered by the warranty they charge you the $35 in addition to repair costs. I only paid shipping on the way out and that was it. 6 days wasn't too bad of a wait, thought it felt like forever.

because they used to just service the phone under warranty and issue replacements from the manufacturer right at the store. now u have to go direct to the manufacturer. sprint is only dealing with ERP n TEP.

i work for sprint, ERP is ONLY for loss/water damage through asurion, 100 dollar deductible. ESRP is for repair only through sprint, which doesn't cover water damage or loss. each are 4 dollars, but you can get them both for 7 dollars, which is called TEP

Ive got TEP for 7 dollars....Iver replaced 2 screens and and external speaker in store for nothing. took about 30 min each time. The first screen was from water damage and the second was because I literally used my Evo as a hammer and shattered the screen. They never asked how or why or even flinched in fixing it. Sprint is by far the best customer service Ive encountered in the cell phone world. Ive only been with sprint since the Evo came out.
Hmm, my next question is, how does this affect those of who bought Evos before this policy change and can no longer enroll in TEP, since 30 days have passed?

Get buddy buddy with someone at the sprint store and they can add it to your account.
Right now, I'm getting TEP for $4/mo =).
I wouldn't worry about it - TEP really only covers you for 2 things: 1, an insurance claim - water damage, lost/stolen, physical damage, phone won't power on at all, etc. This didn't change with the new policy, so if you were OK with taking this risk before I assume you're OK with it now. and 2: Repair at the service center (pretty much anything other than what has to go to the insurance company. Sprint will still repair your phone, it's just that there's a $35 flat rate for that now (before it was free in the first year, then $119.99 after that). So you might get stuck with the $35 repair cost, or the new policy might actually save you $84.99 if your phone breaks after the warranty is up. Either way that's cheaper than the $4 / month for ESRP unless you expect your phone to break more than once every 9 months.
I had my Evo replaced from Sprint with no insurance and was not charged a dime.
Because they can't fix software issues......

I'm buying a Galaxy S II sim free when it's release and want to insure it.
Have you guys/gals got any recommendations of where to insure it. I'm UK based.
i know CPW provide geek insurance if bought from their store for around £12.99 per month but have seen a number of internet based insurers quoting around £6 per month but which of them are legit. Am also looking for laptop insurance too.
House insurance is not an option as i live in shared accommodation.
Would be greatful if anyone can help from their experiences.
Thanks in advance

Does your bank provide it with your account?
I know some do, so it might be worth checking it out.
12.99 is crazy money a month, no way i would go for that.
IMO, £12.99 per month is way too much to insure the phone. I know the phone is valued around about £500, but still...
Also, you will probably have to pay an excess fee of about £100 on top of that if you make a claim.
I'm probably going to upgrade my standard LloydsTSB bank account to the "Silver" account. It costs £2 per month for the first 2 months and then £7.95 per month after that.
It includes:
- Mobile phone insurance (repair or replacement up to £2000, accessories up to £250) and covers Loss, theft and accidental damage
- AA Breakdown cover
- European Travel insurance
+ some other stuff too...
Check it out with your own bank before you buy insurance from CPW.
Thanks guys, will give the CPW insurance a miss for sure.
Will check out the Lloyds suggestion as I'm not too sure about using internet insurance companies as they may be cheap but who knows the hassle if you have to claim.
mines £6.95 through natwest they use a company called ccp . co. uk.
very good tbh i claimed last year and i had full handset price given to me, only have to pay £25 access.
you dont have to go through the bank just search for that company
lloyds silver account provides free insurance for 1 mobile phone but the excess is 50 . i personally wouldn't bother with insurance, warranty for a year is good enough for me.

I used to work for them. A lot of people assume that they get their phone replaced with a new one in-store, but they don't. It gets shipped out and repaired if possible. Cracked screens are almost always repaired. They try their hardest to avoid giving the customer a new phone. But if they have replace the phone, it's a refurb. If there are no replacements available, they get store credit for the amount they paid for the phone.

This information is very outdated as it has changed a bit ago. The phone gets sent out (you can get a loaner phone if available for $50. This gets refunded when the loaner is returned). Usually within 1-5 business days you get your replacement phone (same model).

Soon? Psssh yeah right, not believable for a minute when a t959 vibrant (gs1) LCD screen replacement is $89 + free shipping and a t989 gs2 is $149 + free shipping, both from amazon and is the cheapest I have found.. which is about the same pricing as LCD replacement sites from China and wholesale sites like Alibaba and Aliexpress.
True though, their wholesale price should be about 3x less than retail but I've been searching extensively for weeks and there are no wholesalers selling for anything less than what I've stated above. It will be years until we see LCD screens for the gs3 at a respectable price, like claimed in the OP. By then the value of the gs3 will become greatly depreciated from what it is today since higher end phones will be available.
P.S none of those links work

They should make it more known though. HTC's Uh Oh! Protection replaces your phone if you crack the screen one time. I understand your point but most people do not know this nor do they let you know it easily.
I believe it's $75 for the deductible. It ain't cheap, but it's cheaper than a separate "oops" warranty. I suppose you could run it over with your car (accidentally, of course) in month 23 and get a "new" phone out of it. Not too bad for a deductible and no monthly or initial payment(s).

Not a new phone, refurbished one.
And I think they do it only twice.
I called them before I ordered mine and here is what I was told by a very friendly young man. It's $79 deductible and they pay for the shipping there and back! Anything but loosing the phone they will fix or replace it. Also even if fixed or refurbished it is the original manufacturer that does it so I am ok with it.
I am paying something like $12.99 for Tmobile Assurance protection. Last week I dropped my unbreakable POS LG V10 which I hated anyways and the thig never turned on again. Small ding on the side and tiny crack yet it was dead. So I owe $400 still and had to pay Assurance $175 deductible for which I received a beat up LG V10 that looks abused as hell.
So I decided no more! I am selling it and getting the ZTE then I will cancel my Tmobile insurance and in 2 years the ZTE will cost me about $100.
I just have to not lose it lol.

That is a pretty epic price, is that just the screen? Or everything else ? Amazing price mate. Double check it's the oneplus 5
Also I'd bet money on the 5T being twice the price and twice as hard to fit.
op5 sure... i send a request for the quotation directly trough the OnePlus web page (account -> rma).
Just the glass was broken but they charge the full LCD replacement (they are sealed together as all other phone these days...). Moreover they do the invoice with "reverse charge" if you are an EU company. So it's something like 80 euros + VAT.
Sure 5T probably will cost much more, i'm very happy to not have bordless display......
I was told 60 usd by oneplus support.
