First of all, I'd like to say this is the most positive and progressive forum I've ever joined on the internet so far. You guys not only rock, but also inspire, for which I would like to add to the THANK YOU chorus!
I have spent days and sleepless nights browsing this forum, trying to unlock my T-mobile MDA.
The details are:
-T-Mobile (USA)
-ROM Version: 3.14.40 ENG
-ROM Date: 11/26/02
-Radio Version: 6.18
-Protocol version: 324e4
-Model No.: PW10B1
-IMEI: 35031400086966009
I'm using the USB via the cradle. The XDA unlock gives me an error reading, which is not uncommon elsewhere in this forum. I had to download the SER v 1.2.
Upon download and installation, I copied (via OSImage Tool)as per instuctions and ran programme A, only to get the "error message 007 ....No ROM image file".
At this point I'm pretty exhausted, especially when I see other posts of people who successfully unlocked theirs. I give up on foguring it out myself, so I please need help. Apparently, I'm a total rookie in this field . It would be highly appreciated if someone can be kind enough to please give me a step-by-step guide on the entire process either by replying to this post in this forum or by anyother means to contact me (e-mail, IM, etc) through my profile. I'll have a great sense of achievement and happiness gaining my freedom by eventually unlocking my device this weekend before my trip next week.
Thank You and I appologise to anyone that might be offended by the length of this post
You can run the file from your desktop, make sure you are synced with the xda, it will update the rom through the usb port. Before you do this it would be a good idea to back up your current rom using the sd bootloader method. Once the special edition rom has completed, just poke the unscrewed top half of the stylus in the hole on the bottom right of your xda, just poke once, wait one minute then poke again. You should tehn have an unlocked xda, you can then restore your original rom by inserting the sd card with your original rom, entering bootloader and pushing the action key when prompted.
Thanks for the response. OK, first, what ecxactly is the bootloader and the "bootloader method'?
Secondly, I tried running the S E ROM and keep getting the error message relating to its inability to find the ROM image.
Where did you download from, what size is the file? The bootloader method is accesssed by pushing the reset with the stylus while holding down the power button, then press the top left key on front of xda, you will see options there, you will not see these options when you restore a ron from sd, all you need do is enter bootloader, the xda will ask if you wish to program the rom, you press the centre of the 4 way jog button and away it go's.
I downloaded from:
http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDA-developers-SER-v12.exe
It seems to be a 15.4MB file
The file size is correct, you should be able to sync your xda, click on the special edition rom .exe file and it should install to your xda using program a, there is need to use any other tools, as\long as you have a backup of\current rom you have a way back to your original configuration.
I have just downloaded and executed that same file, the first thing that comes up is winzip self extractor, once it has unzipped itself a dos box pops up, it then jumps to program a and commences the install, make sure you are running the file direct from the directory and not from a shortcut, it definitely works.
I did that and I keep getting that bewildering error code 7. Again, I tried unzipping the file first and then run prog A. It went fine until after step #3 then error code 12 pops up: "ROM image is not compatible with my device.............. download utility nd try again...."
This thing seems simple and works for everybody else but me
at this point, you should use winzip or winrar to extract a file named nk.nbf frim the exe you downloade. then to either use the XDAtools to copy it directly to your XDA ROM, or move the file to SD card using your xda then use the SD flashing method from the bootloader.
good luck ...
Good news & Bad news ...... I was able to run the SER prog. First, I ran the adaptrom file and then programme A. Everything was proceeding fine until it was about 50% and then my system (desktop) froze/crashed. I had no choice but to restart the system. Now the XDA screen has a display with a progress bar and the message: "Upgrading........ It will take about 5 mins.........."
It seems its a curse  but since I've made some progress, I cant give up now. So I'm determined to succeed by fixing this stuff. My question is Can someone please tell me where to go from here??????? As usual, your patient and kind response is highly appreciated.
Oh, I forgot to add that in addition, now ActiveSinc cannot establish communication with my device, even after restarting it several times and trying to get connected via its program
hey ... no big problem ... relax!
you have to get SD reader/writer and connect it to your PC. move the extracted nk.nbf file to the SD card then insert it into the XDA. goto the bootloader mode (power + soft reset) it should recognize the card content ... just press the middle of the rocker key (action) and you will see hex counter increasing from 000 to 200 ,.. at the end, press hard reset and after 60 sec press hard reset again.
note: make sure your XDA is > 80% charged before start!!
good luck.
Didnt Work
Did exactly as you suggested, but ending up with the same screen "uploading..... It will take about 5 minutes..." :?
Finally made it!!! Thanks guys for all your input. Device works fine, so far, I dont seem to have lost anything! I feel FREE, excited and victorious!!!! YEAHHH!!!!!
Greetings people ^ First of all Hi,im new to XDA
Awesome forum btw.
My question is : I have a SE X10i branded in Spain, Vodafone ES ...on R2BA024 (i think) and i wanna unbrand it to SE X10i UK Generic R2BA020 (That way i can get the 2.1 update faster, cause vodafone will take alot i think to get it rolling around)
Will it all work perfectly? I mean, will i concur with any problems?
Thanks in advance ^^
PS : My SIM Lock is off so i think ill be able to use any SIM i got
PS2: Sorry if this has been asked already ,i just couldnt find any posts regarding this.
I'm unlocked but branded Vodafone UK, build R2BA024 and would like some help in debranding too - so I can get the 2.1 faster.
I'm not sure how to debrand and what method will work
I have however managed to get root and have superuser permission (so i'm not a complete blonde)
Any help would be greatly appreciated
tia x
P.S. Hello and welcome xtrmshadow , I hope you dont mind me piggybacking your post
Please search the forums first before opening a new thread.
Go to one of the debrand threads where they have guides.

There seems to be a lot of questions regarding the steps laid out in the official thread, so here I'll try doing a STEP BY STEP guide for those who are confused with the steps.
I borrowed some stuff from the original guide, so thanks Bin4ry, jerpelea and biktor_gj for everything!
NOTE: Before you begin, you should know that this process will wipe everything off your phone. So backup your contacts, and text messages and everything on your phone! Download a free backup program from the market to make backups onto your SD card, and after you're done everything, download that program again and restore everything from SD card. Your SD card remains fine.
1) Install SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service).
You can get it from here: http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/110/61/1275980198/Update_Service_Setup-2.10.6.21.exe
2) Run SEUS, follow the prompts. You don't need to update the phone through it, but get the phone ready for updating. This process should install the drivers necessary for the rooting process.
Note: I suggest you keep your USB cable attached to that USB port. Remember which USB port of your computer it's attached to, as changing USB ports can lead to a bit of confusion for the next 2 steps!
3) To check if #2 was successful, click on Start, click Run, and type: regedit
In the Registry Editor that pops up, click on Computer, press CTRL+F, and search for this: USB\Vid_0fce&Pid_adde\
After it's finished finding, on the right side you'll see DeviceInstance, then it says REG_SZ, then it says something like USB\Vid_0fce&Pid_adde\5&270d2a78&0&3
You'll need that last bit (in this example: 5&270d2a78&0&3 Yours would probably be different). This is your DeviceID (you'll need it soon!)
Note: You may have multiple of these if you plugged the USB cord into many USB ports on your computer. Each USB port will give a different DeviceID, so if you have more than one DeviceID, you'll have to choose one, and if it doesn't work (you'll find out when you reach #5!) you will have to choose another one.
Alternatively, download the file in the next step and extract it, go to the folder called 1st, and run the DeviceID.jar file. It should give your DeviceID
4) Download this:
http://filevo.com/1nlq8wryo11u.html
or from here: http://rapidshare.com/files/404363083/i_R1FA16_ft.rar.html
Extract it.
In the step1 folder, you'll see a file called DeviceID.txt
Open it up, delete whatever's there, and put YOUR DeviceID (that you found from the previous step).
Save the file and close notepad.
Note: Make sure there are no extra spaces or lines after/before the DeviceID. The ONLY thing that should be in the file is your DeviceID, NO SPACES/LINES (for example, only this: 5&270d2a78&0&3 [yours will probably be different])
5) Take out the USB cable from your phone (leave it plugged into your computer)
Turn your phone OFF
Open up step1.cmd (it's not inside the step1 folder, but outside it), but DON'T PRESS ANYTHING
Now we have to put the phone into flash mode. This is how you do it:
Hold the Back button on your phone, and while holding the back button, insert the USB cable into the phone.
A green light should come on the phone (like when it's charging or a missed call)
Quickly "Press any key to continue..." in the open step1.cmd window.
Let it finish what it's doing. It will say "Press any key to continue..." after it's finished. Until then, DON'T touch anything!
If you get problems in this step, refer to this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6970868&postcount=3
Here's a helpful video for common java issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713457
After completion, this will give you a Generic X10i R1FA016 firmware (check it by pressing the left button, go to settings>about phone and at the very bottom under build number)
Keep your phone plugged into the USB.
6) Download this:
http://filevo.com/yzmh8wlyrgtz.html
or from here: http://rapidshare.com/files/404359845/ROOT_F2v2.rar.html
Extract it.
DELETE step4 folder, step5 folder, step4.cmd and step5.cmd
Now we're going to put the phone into Debugging mode:
Turn your phone on if it's not already on.
Press the left button, go to Settings>Applications>Development and check on USB debugging, press OK in the popup. Plug the USB into the phone (in case you disconnected it). You should see an exclamation mark at the very top left of the screen of the phone.
Do NOT have the SD card mounted to your computer!
Note: This next step can take a while!
Open step2.cmd, don't press anything!
On the phone, a list of buttons will come up eventually. Press the 6th option (something about update from SDcard). ONLY PRESS IT ONCE!
Leave your phone alone. Go to the washroom or eat a snack.
You'll see the progress on the phone screen, as it installs the package. Leave everything alone.
After completion, this will give you a Generic X10i R2BA023 firmware.
If you get problems, try this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7003121&postcount=1122
7) The phone should be on, USB plugged in, and already in USB debugging mode.
Open step3.cmd, and 'Press any key to continue'
Let it finish what it's doing, it will say 'Press any key to continue' at the end after it's finished.
After completion, this will give you ROOT! And it also installs some programs for you.

Additional steps for X10a:
Download this:
http://filevo.com/okknxk23pbnr.html
or from here: http://hotfile.com/dl/52357616/84b4027/ROOT_F2v2_X10a.rar.html
Extract it.
Inside the step4 folder, there is a DeviceID.txt file. Remember you've seen this before? Copy the same one from step1 folder that you did in #4, and put it into the step4 folder.
Follow #5 (except with step4.cmd)
Next, turn the phone on (if it doesn't turn on, unplug the USB from the phone, and try turning it on again, then plug the USB back in). Put it in USB debugging mode if it's not (if you forgot how to, look back in #6)
Open step5.cmd
After it's done, press the left button on the the phone, go to Settings>About phone and under Model number it should say X10a

Market Fix:
If you have an X10i, follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719486
Otherwise if you have an X10a, use this file instead, but follow the same instructions as in the link above: http://rapidshare.com/files/405188255/Market-Fix-X10a.rar
_____________________________________________________________________
To delete preinstalled programs you don't want, such as Moxier:
Put phone in debugging mode if it's not already.
I recommend you unplug USB from phone so you don't end up running some file and messing your phone
Open up the step3 folder. Right-click on cleanup.cmd, and click on edit.
Whatever is there in that list of "@adb shell rm /blah/blah/blah" will get wiped off your phone. So change the list as you want. If you're unsure, REMOVE IT FROM THE LIST!
After you're done making your list of apps to remove, save the file, plug USB into phone, and run the file.
Here is a thread that says what some of the applications are, and additional ones you can add to the list, to remove from the phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714021
Alternatively, you can install Titanium Backup from the market (it's free!) and use that to uninstall some applications. Also, it's really great for making a backup of your stuff (you can backup more things now since you have access to more things since you now have root!)

If you'd have stopped at step 5 and run seus you would flash straight to 026, instead of having to flash to 023 and then 026.
I've tried this method
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=195467
when I get to step 12 SE's PC Companion just re-downloads the Vodafone files again :'(
still stuck on uk 024 :'(
Same thing happens on the SEUS swap method, it doesn't attempt to download the files as they are already there so I don't get the opportunity to swap :'(
@debs ,that method doesnt work anymore mate, use the one from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...717949&page=22 .
That one works,i just tried it myself.
Regards ^^
PS: Just be careful on the steps, read em carefully before doing anything, you can brick your phone doing that.
Thank you sooooo much XperiaX10iUser and xtrmshadow. Chuffed to bits now I have finally got 026 on. I did it the way you both suggested but only up to part 5, then let SEUS update me to 026.
I'm one happy bunny now

I also read something about replacing just one file? I can't find the post anymore and don't remember the filename. I unbranded my phone months ago. But my wife has the same phone from Vodafone, but branded. If someone can tell me the name of the file and whether I can copy mine file to her phone to unbrand it?

No you can't exactly copy it.
Go to the debrand thread posted on first page and read through carefully then you'll see that the files are copied to a certain folder on your pc. Since you've done it before I'm sure it will come back to you if you simply reread the obstructions.
Edit:Btw the links posted by XperiaX10User and xtrmshadow are actually same post with I copy and pasted on first page. Just so you don't get confused.

I found it, I mean the build.prop. What if I replace her build.prop with mine? Would that work?
I know about the SEUS and then during the process replace the files etc. But that is not what I mean ;-)
Thanx again!

[TOOL] [UPDATE 21/12/2016] Flashtool version 0.9.23.0 - Windows / Linux / Mac
Hi,
I will take the lead on releases of this tool as Bin4ry will have less time to work on it.
For all flashtool informations (download links, changelog, screenshot gallery, FAQ, Firmwares repository) go to the Flashtool Homepage
Flashtool sources are on github : Androxyde repositories
WARNING : Since Xperia Z, sony added a new set of files I called bootbundle. Those files can be bundled from 0.9.13 and can be flashed from 0.9.13 only. To all those flashing devices from Z edition to all after Z, it is highly advised to use 0.9.13 and to be sure FTF you flash contain the bootbundle set. I've been reported of hard bricks because of missing such set of files from bundles.
I WANT TO GET YOUR ATTENTION ABOUT THE LATEST BRANCH 0.9.19. Without FSC, the tool will by default include simlock.ta if this file is present in the FTF. The result will be a bricked phone
As a workaround, until I release a patch, please please tick the exlude simlock.ta if you see it in the list.
0.9.19.6 fixes the simlock.ta issue. This file is by default excluded. Then it will not be flashed until you explicitely untick the exlcude simlock box. Do it at your own risk.

Nothing wrong with the files. Virus scanners sometimes are a pain in the behind.
It seems I've got the phone rooted now. Just going to check it. Now, of to find a good rom

the notification led has to get green, and the it shoudl be in flash mode.
dont know if it is right at this time
just try.
nope, does not work, phone reboots like normal.

I have a question.. After I have connected my phone in flashmode and connected it to the flash tool..it's switching the phone back on then when I try to flash the DualTouch it says it's done it.. but then when I reboot and try it.. it doesn't register 2 touches.. so what's wrong?
Did you try a multi touch tester app from the market?

Turn off the phone and remove it from the usb cabel, after that press the back button, and connect it to the usb, you'll see green light and you have few seconds to connect it to the flashtool.

Yes it but it has some strangeness, but in apps it works fine, i tested in gangstar mv, and angry birds and will now test it in some fps's like nova modern combat and brothers in arms 2. In the browser it doesn't work, in opera mini - works.
The content of Dualtouch folder go to inside the "Firmwares/my-firmware/" folder?
So...
Should then replace the file "Kernel.sin" and add to that same folder (firmware / my-firmware) file "content.properties" into original folder firmware?
This is correct?
flashtools.exe mirror link
I make a mirror of it on Singapore server.
Hi, i have been looking through some of the rooting, flash threads on here and there is a bit too much information, lol.
Can anyone detail the basic steps, software required to roll my X10 back to the 1.6 OS?
I am still having connectivity issues when trying to use the handset in the car.
The vehicle manufactures website shows that the Xperia X10i is compatible with their factory fitted handsfree systems, but only on OS 1.6.
1. Download this and extract in any folder of your computer:megaupload.com/?d=HCWX4KO3 (The credits of this goes for its creators)
2. Open the folder that its named 1_firmware and in the fileDeviceID.txt copy yours, save and close. (This is the same as the one used on the flashtools of Bin4ry)
This is how you can get your DeviceID on Windows: (Again thanks tojimbo77)
2.1: Connect your phone to the computer on the USB port you are going to use to flash it.
2.2: Press start (or windows icon) and in the run box type regedit
2.3: Click edit>find, and type in Vid_0fce&Pid_adde. You should find "DeviceInstance". If that fails, make sure Match whole stringis un-ticked, and click find next or press f3, if that fails, tryUSB\VID_0FCE&PID_ADDE. Copy the last section of that, it should look something like "5&2888d0ff&0&1".
Note: It changes with every diffrent USB port you use....3. Download your Firmware, extract it and copy all the files on it to the 1_firmware folder. You don't have to erase anything from this folder, unless you got the message to replace a file.
4. Now run the RootX10a_v2.cmd and select step 1 and follow the instructions. If done correctly you will see a window that starts to write and write and write a lot of things. This process will take around 5 minutes, so be patient. (It is like if you were flashing your phone)
5. Turn your phone on and wait until you get the configuration screen.
6. Now connect the phone to the PC and run PC Companion or SEUS. If it shows that there is a new software for your phone, follow the instructions and update if you want.
7. Enjoy your phone on Android OS 1.6 or 2.1 with your operator
Thank you on anticipation to any help offered.
I have had a look here, but am not 100% if this is all that i need to do?
Sorry, not able to post the link, being a new user.
The one part that is not clear to me is where they say, "Open the folder that its named 1_firmware and in the fileDeviceID.txt copy yours, save and close"
What is it that im supposed to copy?
No.. no...
You need the flashtool and the 1.6 files..
I cant seem to find the 1.6 files...
Why do you need 1.6?
SE seem to have done something with the update 2.1 where the phones Bluetooth will connect to my vehicle, but only for about 40 seconds, then removes its self and then re attaches, then removes its self again and this goes on for the duration the handset is in the car with me.
The handset i have just now was a replacement for my original and came with the 2.1 OS already updated.
The original 1.6 OS that was on the phone connected to my vehicle and gave me phonebook access.
I have neither now hence why i wish to roll back to the software that is compatible with my vehicles system. 1.6 buildR1FA016 Kernel 2.6

Thanks for the above, but can you break this into more simple instructions, links etc as this is way above me. I'm not totally useless, but i have never done anything like this, so it is all double dutch to me at this point in time, lol.
Download the flashtool from androxyde's thread then follow the instructions to flash the latest FW, then reboot your phone plug it in and press root on the flashtool and then reboot and install XRecovery and use it to install a custom ROM by following the directions in a ROM thread.
Just start by reading the Flashtool thread.

If I (or anyone for that matter!) help you, dont be afraid to press THANKS!

Had a read at the flash tool thread and even more confused now, too much information and no understanding of what it all means.
I am looking for someone who can supply links to what i actually need to roll the phone back.
What software do i require.
Do i have to root the phone and if so, how do you do this?
I did say in the thread title an "Idiots Guide". Simple and straightforward instructions that a first timer can comprehend, similar to the text in my first post, bullet points?
Thanks.

I did and it's version this and version that. So which version is it that i actually need without screwing up my phone?
Suppose i'm more looking for something along the lines of what you would get if you downloaded a torrent file, where everything is in the one folder, inc the instructions.
Anyway, hopefully problem is sorted, as i am ditching SE after 10 years of using their handsets and going to Samsung which is compatible with my vehicles factory fitted system.

I just managed to root my SCH i400 (first ever rooting of any Android device for me).
I am very surprised by how smoothly it went, despite reports & warnings everywhere about complications (like this one - which should be totally ignored if you're using SuperOneClick v2.1.1 or higher).
For the benefit of n00bs like me who may be confused by multiple sources, resources, versions and problem reports, I am posting a step by step procedure that is confirmed (by me, on Windows XP SP3) to be working smoothly, without a single hitch of complications:
Phone: Make sure setting > applications > unknown sources is checked.
Phone: Make sure phone is in debugging mode.
Phone: Make sure SD card is unmounted!
PC: Make sure Windows USB driver for this phone installed and works
PC: Make sure .NET 3.51 SP1 is installed.
PC: Unzip SuperOneClickv2.1.1-ShortFuse.zip ==> C:\Program Files\SuperOneClickv2.1.1-ShortFuse
PC: Double-click SuperOneClick.exe
PC (in SuperOneClick): Make sure you're on the Universal tab (the only other tab is Samsung Captivate, which isn't the i400).
PC (in SuperOneClick): Now click the root button and wait for the process to complete.
PC (in SuperOneClick): "BusyBox not found. Would you like to install it?" Yes!
PC (in SuperOneClick): "Root install has completed! Would you like to run a test?" Yes!
PC (in SuperOneClick): "Your device has been rooted! Would you like to donate now?"
Exit SuperOneClick, unplug phone from USB, power down phone, power on phone. -- this step might not be mandatory, I just did it to be on the safe side.
Enjoy!
Great job on this tut.

Froyo is so nice... Here's how...
Hey guys... new poster here.
Just got a (Gently used) Samsung Continuum for free from Verizon after the power button on my G Droid 1 broke.
Anyways, after rcving it and realizing that it would only support Android 2.1 - I was slightly upset.
My D1 was rooted and modded to the max many times over with just about every ROM you can get.
So after reading up about IMNUTS leaking the Froyo download for the Continuum, my hopes were raised.
It is now debinged, debloated, lightening quick and amazing!
There may not be ROMS out there yet - but I truly hope some of you geniuses decide to make a few.
Just wanted to say thanks and encourage you to do some research before rooting it.
Here's what worked for me.
Odin 1.3
Continuum PIT.pit file
froyo_modem.tar.md5
cwm_recovery_test4_adryn.tar
cyan Clockwork Mod Recovery (BLUE, not yellow) (update.zip file, which is placed on the root of your SD card - renamed to update.zip)
stock_deodexed_ec03.zip (ROM)
(Place all of these files on your Desktop for easy access)
How to do it...
1. Connect your phone to your computer and Mount it.
2. Place the cyan CWM Recovery zip file to your SD card. (rename it to update.zip & do not put it in any folders. Just drag the file to your SD card - whatever drive it is listed as. Mine is my Removeable F
3. Make a new folder on your SD card. Name it whatever you want. (Mine is named "Froyo") Place the stock_deodexed_ec03.zip file in the folder on your SD card.
4. Open Odin 1.3 on your PC.
5. While your phone is off... hold the down volume button and connect it to your computer via USB. The yellow triangle will appear and it will say "Downloading". (Some people say to take the battery out, but my Odin program would not recognize my phone without the battery. Whichever works for you is fine.)
6. In Odin - Click the PIT file button. Load the Continuum.Pit.pit file into the file field. (Just double click it once you find the file from your Desktop.)
7. In Odin - Click the PDA button. Load the froyo_modem.tar.md5 file into the file field. (same as #6. Just double click it once you find the file from your Desktop.)
8. Click Start in Odin.
It should think for a minute, then say resetting, then say PASS
Then your phone will probably turn back on - turn it off again and reconnect it to your PC in download mode as stated in #5 above.
9. In Odin - Click the PDA button again. Load the cwm_recovery_test4_adryn.tar file as you did in #'s 6 and 7 above.
10. Click Start again in Odin... same as before. (thinking, resetting and PASS)
Your phone will turn on again.
11. Disconnect your phone from the computer & turn it off.
12. Hold both Volume buttons and turn it on. It will boot into the Samsung Recovery mode.
13. Use your Volume buttons to go down to highlight "apply update.zip" Then find the place where your normal Menu softkey would be and push it. The phone should then reboot into Clockwork Mod Recovery. It will be orangish.
14. In CWM, use the Volume buttons to highlight Backup/ Restore. Use the Power Button to choose it. Then at the next field, highlight Backup and make a backup.
15. After is makes the backup, press where the softkey Back button should be to go back to the original screen. From there, do a Wipe Data/ Factory reset. Do not forget to do this part.
16. Once it does the Data Wipe - go back to the main menu and and highlight & select the "zip from SD card" choice. Find your "Froyo" folder (of whatever you named it) and apply the stock_deodexed_ec03.zip file.
17. After that, go back to the main menu again and reboot your phone.
It may take a while, but your phone should restart in Froyo.
Of course, you have to re-sign in to your Google network...
Thanks so much guys for all the posts. Without them, is nowhere near as cool.
Hanging at Step #5, Now what?
Thank you for sharing. Wish I could say it went as smoothly for me with my SCH-I400 Continuum... I'm still working on it! I followed recommendations of several different developers/rooters. I've installed .Net Framework 4.0 and the SDK developers kit (who knows, maybe I'll start a new hobby...), and now when I run Superoneclick it hangs at step #5 with this message:
link_image[1728]: 3252 could not load needed library 'libdiskconfig.so' for './zergRush' (load_library[1058]: Library 'libdiskconfig.so' not found)CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE
I have rebooted the computer and the phone, unmounted the SD card, settings to allow unknown sources, and turned on USB debugging. I'm not sure why the config file can't be found, and I don't know where to get it...
Do I need to reinstall the SDK? Or install the additional Java developers software? Or am I over-complicating this whole thing?
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated...
-James
Perhaps the easiest way is to flash a rooted ROM through Odin (or Heimdall)... Especially if you don't use Windows. This is how I did it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203597
Two topics in one thread?
Hmmm... seems we have 2 things happening hear. 1: Rooting a Samsung Continuum, and 2: Flashing a ROM...
My concern is the "hang" at step five for Rooting my Continuum SCH-I400... Cant use a ROM until the dang thing is rooted, and can't seem to figure out the hang.
Tried Z4 root from the phone rather than through the PC and it hung indefinitely... Maybe there's a related issue, and I don't care if it's Superoneclick or Z4 that gets the job done.
Has anyone gotten past the same issue?

That's where you are over complicating. You don't actually have to root BEFORE you flash a new rom, if the rom is 'prerooted'. I've never rooted this thing via s1c or z4. I simply flashed the kernels via odin and flashed the rom in cwm.

That's fine Txwolf, but still doesn't address the issue... Or the original reason for this thread - Rooting - which is is essential for the programs I am going to run, and that is what I have been asking about...

The issue seems to be that you just have to use that little search box a little better via xda or your web browser and find more information the root program your trying to use.
When you give up on that you can take txwolf1980 's advice
PS hang on step 5 in OP? Or in 3rd post? That would be getting into dl mode lol

I spent 6 hours last night troubleshooting, researching, digging deep, and "using that little search box." Seems to me You guys need to "just read the thread." It's about rooting your phone, period. If a forum is out there, I've probably read it. I'm using superoneclick to do it. SDK is installed. Net framework is installed. My error message frome SOC is above. When I am finally rooted, THEN I will install several programs - starting with a wifi tether.
I see you have the same phone as I do. Is it rooted with a one-click method? I also tried Z4root and didn't like it.

well i did read the thread...
ive been out of town for a week and finally back on my pc... i would love to help you yet more info is needed.
you are running dl17 stock 2.1 correct?
what OS is your pc running?
and yes i have same phone as you. i have used superone click on ec03 build once.
just for root. but then flashed a deodexed rom to use custom mods and apps.
and since have been flashing rooted kernels, imnuts and adrynalynne have released most all of them.
there are a few ways to root the device, best bet is, as always is go to IRC.
clarity and patience are key, we all got to practice both
I rooted EC09 with soc no problem. If I send someone the EC09 could they extract the apks and send them to me? I deleted some sys apps for the ticker and rss feeds and need them back now to use it.

Unzip factory.rfs of ec09 to grab missing apks and put them on sdcard and install from there.

FYI, my Windows Defender threat scanner just reported this SuperOneClickv2.1.1-ShortFuse.zip file as Exploit:AndroidOS/CVE-2011-1823, more specifically pointing at a file named Exploits/GingerBreak in that ZIP file.
I am going to delete this ZIP file as I no longer need it, but I got curious: Any idea what this means?

It means it'll root your phone. Some applications could try to do this without permission and do shady things with your phone. Nothing to worry about if your doing it on purpose.
