My phone is always connected to the internet. The we blue 3g icon is always on the top and I cant get it to disconnect. Is there anyway to have it set to connect only when I want to use it? I have checked the connection settings in the phone settings but I cant see anywhere it says to not auto connect.
I have closed all apps that require the internet like daily brief and turned of alerts from Gmail app then rebooted and its still auto connecting
It does not mean its connected, it just means 3G is avable

When im at work i have access to wi-fi
When i walk home i dont have access to wi-fi
Then when i get home i have access to wi-fi again.
My question is how does it work, i mean at work i connect to work-wi-fi
Then i lose it when i walk home and im not sure the HTC touch HD automatically recognizes the home-wi-fi when i get home, i think it uses the gprs when getting mail etc, unless i tell it to connect to the wi-fi.
I would like it to be automated, so that when theres a wi-fi nearby that it can use, it will use it, and only as a last resort i would like it to use the gprs.
Can anyone explain how the HD does this?
There should be some way to set net priorities like in real windows ...
Actually when you connect to a wifi, the connection settings (e.g. network key etc.) of the network and the network's SSID (i.e. the network's name) is stored in your device. When you are in the range of a stored wifi your device will automatically connect to it (provided of course that you have the wif turned on).
I suggest that once you leave work turn the wifi off and as soon as you reach home turn it back on again.
Hope this helped...
You can check if, and to what wifi network the HD is connected (tap the wireless icon at the top of the screen). If it is connected to your home wifi, it uses that over GPRS. The best and fastest connections always gets priority.
hi,
I think the WiFi turns automagically off after a given time without connection.
In the "J.S. Advanced Configuration Tool" it says "2 min (default)" so i think this is the default system setting for this.
So you leave your work-wifi, walk home without a connection and at home, yor wifi is switched off.
Its possible to set "no timeout" (in "Advanced Config Tool" at least, don't know about a "normal" system-setting for this) but i think your battery will hate you for that
greetings

I hav GPRS enable on my phone and at my home i have a WiFi
So when i connect to the internet from my phone when i am at home it always connects using GPRS but i want to connect it through Wifi when i am at home...Is there any optio through which i can select as to how i want to connect to the internet i.e. either by GPRS or Wifi??
Plz help
disconnect your gprs connection just clikc on the Edge Icon on the top bar and then and disconnect the t-mobile data connection and then manually connect to wifi spot and it shouldnt connect through ur gprs until u want it to
If you have WiFi turned on, it'll automatically try to find a network it can connect you and notify you of the best connection. If it doesn't WiFi may not be on, you can check in the Comm Manager to make sure its on. If it is on, you can click the WiFi icon on the top bar and select your network.
The phone will automatically use Wifi instead of GPRS if WiFi is connected. If it tries to connect through GPRS it is either because WiFi is disabled or WiFi isn't connected to a network.
I have connected my WM6 Hermes to our WLAN network, but I cannot access the internet. And yes, I am 100% sure I am connected and have put in the WEP key and everything.
When I try to go to a webpage, it says, "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Please check the connection and try again."
So I check the connection and sure enough, I am connected fine.
are you using any proxy's on your internet to connect?
if so, configure them in your hermes
no I don't use any proxies, it is just regular Wi-Fi... when I look under wifi in the Connections section of Settings it says I am connected to my network, and I was playing around with the "Connections" app in that section and I all I could do was edit some stuff about my Media Net or 3G connection.
the icons on the top bar clearly shows what connection is being used as active data connection
the manual describe what each icon mean
you should be able to force it to use other connections then gprs
in
settings->connections->connections->advanced-Select network
alright I got it to work, I disabled some IEEE EAP stuff, but now it only remains connected for like 10 seconds, about long enough for me to open 1 webpage, even though the icon at the top still says my Wi-Fi is used as my active data collection
Hello,
I'm confused by the internet connection of my Topaz. I have set it to connect to 'my work network' so there is no internet connection possible over 3G/gprs/edge, but only when i'm connected to my computer over usb. When I don't set my phone like that, my experience is that it connects to the internet like all the time (with huge costs from my provider as a result)
On my past phones (regular phones), I used to have the internet enabled all the time, there wasn't even an option to turn it off I guess. They only went online when I opened the webbrowser and it disconnected edge automaticly when closing.
With my current setting on my topaz (work network) I can't update my status on facebook or twitter as it can't connect, and that's a bummer. But I can't turn it on because then it keeps connected all the time and my bill rises incredibly fast in one day.
How do I set my device so that the weather and all other automatic things can't connect to the mobile internet, in a way that the device only connects when I start to browse or update my status, and disconnects right after that? I don't want to disable weather totally because I still want to allow it updating through my USB connection.
I know there is a button 'Data connection' in the communication manager, but turning it off still doesn't do anything, i can still connect to the internet. When locking the device I can choose terminate connection, but it reopens automaticly.....
I simply don't want any data being transfered behind my back.
Search and download "NoData"
When I view the wifi connections in the HTC HD2 and try to connect to my home wifi it just keeps saying, "Connecting" but, doesn't seem to connect. These are the things I'm unsure about:
The status of the connection on the HD2 is saying T-Mobile 3G. I am able to browse the interent and use data. The thing is that, when my home wifi is off, then the HD2 cannot connect to anything online like web browsing. I'm on a prepaid t-mobile plan so I'm not supposed to be able to use anything data related, browsing web etc.. so how come it says I'm connected to 3G and does not say I'm connected to Wifi?
It sounds like I'm connected to Wifi if I'm not able to get any data usage such as browsing web if my Wifi at home is down but, I'm not sure what's going on it's kind of confusing, since on the phone it does not say it's connected to WiFi and can't seem to connect to Wifi just says, "Connecting" and in the notification area for "WiFi" it says, "Not connected." If I click my home Wifi Connection here it just has a circle that keeps rotating around under my connection but, doesn't do anything. The other thing is that if I go online on the web through the HD2 the IP is not my home IP so that's also confusing since if I'm connected to wifi it should be my home network IP.
