Don't remove that yet, people have reported broken WiFi when the mobile hotspot app was removed.
Well I removed it while not paying attention then read that, I've been on wifi all day, right now included and even rented a blockbuster movie since its removal. But I ask which one it was BC I read that and def didn't want to lose my wick.

Can I get a photo showing something connected to this device via wireless tether? I've tried half a dozen apps reported as verified working, with no success at all.
I'm calling bull**** until I see proof.

No sense in posting pics.
I'm posting this from my laptop, tethered to my galaxyS via wireless tether
Be sure your wireless card supports "ad-hoc" connections.
Win7 doesn't really like ad hoc either, but it will work with them.

Forgive me but I don't see an advantage to lying about that. It works on my phone fine, use it all the time to tether my work computer to get past all the firewall crap.

Speedtest messing up?

When I run my speedtest for some reason it only runs the download test halfway then skips to the upload test....
Help?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
If you're talking about the website, it does that to me as well. Ironically, the speedtest app from the market does just the opposite. Download works but upload craps out

I was having a problem earlier today when noticed my time was like 2 hours ahead. I seem like my locations was some where in Buenos Aires

I'm in Seattle, WA, but mine says I'm in Denver, CO as well. Like every time I go to craigslist, it takes me to the Denver site, same with the speedtest app. Routing problems on tmobile's end maybe?

Im pretty sure it just trying to tell you that denver is the best place to be and it would rather be there

It will do this until it locks in your actual location.
Do you have location set for network or GPS? It should find your relative location quicker with the network, but it is of course much more accurate with the GPS. If you have neither on....
If it is set at GPS, and you have not been using it much (or first time), it takes a while for the GPS to lock in your signals and location.
There is a good app called GPS Status which has built in AGPS updater - that one locks in pretty quick.

Thanks for the app. Works for me, but I have to keep it installed for SpeedTest to know I'm in Dallas so that's a little boo.
Please post questions in this section.
Same here. I'm in Seattle and my speedtest.net app reports me in Denver. Turns out, speedtest does not use GPS to locate your position. They use your IP address, which for me is a Denver, CO Tmo IP.
So how do you fix this? Don't have a clue. I called Tmo and their "Android Specialist" to me to reset the phone... seriously
They told me to do a reset which is bs whats that gonna fix? Then she told me that she found a forum on google stating there having server issues in the pac northwest. I cant find this forum

Randomly the problem stopped ocurring speedtest is locating correctly and browser is as well

Google DNS

Removed for now... seems to break location based apps. Will see if we can figure this one out
Lower latency in what regards? Connecting to the same server, google dns is always lower? How do you test this accurately?
Used spedtest.net app latency is always lower than stock vzw dns.also u will notice an increase in page rendering times

Anyone else given this a run on fission?

Lowered latency with increased rendering times? How does that work..? Throughput should be the same, regardless of the DNS used.

Rendering probably wasn't the right word... if u notice on 3g once u hit go it sits for a few seconds and then begins to load the page. After the flash the page starts to load almost immediately
loaded this up on RubiX 1.9.5. Before, Speed Test app would use the server in CA and give me ~120-150ms latency. Now it thinks I'm in KS for some reason (I'm in CA), so I get 300+. Not sure if it's the app freaking out or the DNS change affected it.
And when I try going in and changing the server manually, it doesn't even give me CA option because it's too far away from KS lol.
Which app are you using for your speed tests? Is that Ca as in california or Ca as in Canada? Havemt had an issue with selecting server... im in san diego ca

it's california, I should've clarified, sorry. Hmm weird then why it only gives me choices of KS and the states near it...
Oh and I use "Speed Test" app.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Ok, I tried it again and it finally gave me Modesto, CA server. My latency is now 55 ms down from 100+. So this change definitely helps, thank you!

Have u had issues with location based apps? Such as gasbuddy hotpads Idk anything else that heavily relies on location??
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
you might've missed my last post cause it was last on the previous page, but the issue fixed itself. I guess GPS wasn't updating correctly or something...
but no, to answer your question, I haven't really had any problems with location based apps. Hopefully that was just a one-time glitch with speed test
And I was using Google maps this whole weekend with no problems while having your patch applied.
Since it appears from the thread that using Google DNS doesn't break location-based apps, will you be reposting the how-to any time soon?
Thx!

I still have the patch saved. If you PM me your email, I can send it to you.
I hope the author doesn't mind, since the only reason it was taken down was because of my bug report, which doesn't seem to be related to this change.

does anyone have a backup of the original files and know how to restore them? I kinda forgot to make a backup when applying this...

Tether to PS3

Trying everything in the market that's free. All of the apps I found claim to be working but my PS3 can't see them.
Anyone else with this problem?

Have you tried Barnacle?
Do you BONSAI?
You're not trying to play games online through your phone's connection are you? Cause if so you will fail miserably.
Not sure, but I don't think the PS3 can connect in ad-hoc mode. Are you sure you're using an app that supports infrastructure mode, and is configured to operate that way?
Every one I've ever used has operated in ad-hoc mode...

I have tried barnacle without success. I did manage to finally get wireless tether working through the default wireless tether app that comes with asc roms.
Now all I have to do is improve my 4g signal strength. Thinking about overclocking a tower or two. ;p

**HERES HOW TO TETHER YOUR DATA TO YOUR PS3**
First you must tether to your laptop (if you have one). Then what you do is get an ethernet cable (cheap on ebay) and hook it from your laptop to your PS3.
Then you have to share your data from your laptop to your PS3. I can't say exactly how to do it on your laptop cause I don't know what kind you have so you will have to look up how to share your internet connection from your laptop to other devices.
Thats pretty much the short explanation. Look up on youtube "how do i tether to ps3" and you will see exactly what to do. Thats how I figured it out
