please help!!! my evo seems to be bricked after i tried to root it with simple root. so during the process the rooting was taking too long so i manually did it, and i think that was okay. then i unlocked nand in the program and flashed recovery... all going fine(although in the nand part the program exited out of the command line and didn't say that it finished). then when i tried installing damagecontrol 3.2(the latest one), my phone got into an endless boot loop, and nothing will get it out. i tried wiping everything, clearing storage in boot loader, and i was thinking of connecting it to my computer but i can't get it into disk mode.all it does is stay on the white htc evo 4g screen, go black, then repeat this. the only things i can do are og into boot loader and the nandroid thing to wipe cache and whatnot. please if any one can help i would greatly appreciate it even if the root won't work and it's factory i don't care. I don't know where i can get this evo repaired so i have to o it my self pleas ehelp
if you can get into recovery you arent bricked. try a different rom, DC got me in a boot loop too.

You can send it to me and I'll see if I can fix it for you. Only thing is, if I can't - I get to keep it (there really isn't much I can do with a paperweight anyway, except use it for parts).
I'm just wondering, if the phone doesn't power on, when does it do the 5 vibrates?
If you have insurance from best buy, you can break physically (to the point where they can't tell that its rooted) and they will replace it (no deductible)

Captain throwback is completely trustable, and if ANYONE can recover you Evo, it'd be he. I don't believe anyone has successfully brought back an Evo from the 5vibrate issue.
So really your only option is to let him try.

I did successfully get my 5vibed "bricked" phone working again after 2 weeks of struggle and attempt to exchange it with Sprint with only 41 days left on my 2 yr contract.
It is completely doable - I'm willing to give it a whirl if he's interested.

No, I still like my epic. But, I'm bringing my wife over to sprint and I need to find her a phone to make her get rid of her iphone.
If I had a full upgrade I'd consider it, otherwise I'll be rocking my Epic until next summer.
I don't know about you guys, but that phone looks pretty sexy.
At least sexier than my Epic..
I'm thinking about it but my Epic + physical keyboard + Syndicate Frozen 1.2 with keyboard fix is sooo difficult to walk away from. And if a GB 2.3 were to get tossed into Mystery's ACS freezer it will be even harder to ditch the Epic

Id switch if I could do it cheaply. I am a year in almost of the 2 year with my Epic. If I could upgrade for like a hundred dollars I would in a heartbeat. Not paying 600 or more for this phone though out of pocket.
Hm there might be two variants of the gs2 one with sammys processor and the other with the tegra 2, any chance they hit the drawing board again with the "epic 2" in mind as one of those variants? Considering someone did a device search and came back with "D710" ?
Just a theory, seem valid? Lol

well, you might be in luck then...
check out my recent post from an old thread
I'm not quite at my 12 month point yet and got an early upgrade 'scheduled' for when i hit that mark..
now the new phone might be "WiThin" reach (pun intended)
WiThin will not have Tegra! It has Mali GPU and Tegra phones have GeForce GPU. I guess that means SPH-D710 is WiThin. Amazing that on Nenamark, the top 8 phones are GSII. BTW here's the link
http://nena.se/nenamark/view?version=2&device_id=593
It's SPH so it's definitely sprint and it's got Mali so its probably the GSII and performs like the other ones do on the test. Also, it got WIFI certified in May if that means anything.

Big mistake I think. If she loves her iPhone she will not like switching to an android phone. Goodluck to you sir!
I've heard early August, which would be one year after the Epic release but yeah, I'm on that phone when it's available. Will definitely pre order too
Last week my evo's LCD broke. I was not under warrenty so I had to get a new phone. I went with the Samsung Galaxy SII. I just wanted to thank everyone on the evo forums for helping me out over the last year and a half. But i would like to specifically thank the awesome devs that the evo has, without you guys my days with the evo would have been far too boring. I will definitely keep checking in from time to time to see what's new. Once again, thanks!
And BTW, i actually use my dead evo as a paper weight now.

About to leave to go get my Epic 4g Touch using my dads upgrade. ( I'll have mine in a month to get a new LTE phone ) Just wanted to thank everyone that helped me learn about android by answering my stupid questions and for being a wonderful community of people. Gonna miss my Evo alot, but I'll still have it around for random business such as PC remote and whatnot. oh no.... I told myself I wouldn't cry... *sniff sniff* I LOVE YOU GUYSSSSSS

I switched to the NS4G after my Evo **** the bed, and I still miss it.
The Nexus has been far more reliable and has a slick form factor, but I have large hands and miss the brutish size of the Evo. Not to mention the dev support - with the nexus, you get your choice of AOSP, modded AOSP, or the single Sense 2.1 rom.
can u please elaborate on that pc remote thing?
thanks
that is the biggest reason I rooted my phone. I was getting tired of it and still have about 8 months to my upgrade since Sprint did awway with the yearly upgrade on the primary line. The ability to flash different ROMS has given it a totally different look n feel, improved my battery life and brought about new love for my phone. i have decided im not upgrading now until I can get a 4G LTE device and have 4G service in my area.
Having similar feelings. Will be getting something new very soon. Everything I know about android I learned from my Evo and this community. Pretty awesome.

It sets different OOM values. Essentially telling androind when to kill processes if they're bogging down the rest of your system. That is my understanding from reading, if anyone cares to correct, I'd be more than happy.

I just wanted to chime in to give credit to the DEVs for keeping the EVO bad ass for so long. I got mine the day it came out (almost 2 years ago, which is an ETERNITY for a technology product) and I would still much rather have the EVO than my wife's I-Phone 4S. Every time I get bored with it I find a new ROM and it's like getting a brand new phone for the donation I make.

If you are say out on Lake Michigan or the Ocean or you have the Epic 4G with in a Jamming field of CDMA bands used in the U.S. the GPS is rendered useless. That is proof that the GPS is somehow tied to the cell radio reception and is not an independent true Sat based GPS.
Samsuck ****ed it up totally & never admitted it's falt:banghead: IMA its wrong to say the SPH-D700 Has GPS the Epic 4G's GPS is only going to work in parts of the world that have CDMA so forget trying to use this thing some day as a backup nav unit on a boat, survival bag, in the middle of bum **** NV or AK WI or Off shore, maybe an Oil rig or a fishing boat to log you fishing trip fun in the golf.
