After doing the update today I noticed that Google talk keeps on opening on its own. Even after signing out and closing in the "running services" app. How the hell do I stop this? I'm not sure if its killing battery but it bothers me to see it running if I don't use it

You can go to more and stop it from auto signing in. not sure if that stops it from completely opening.
google talk is part of the market..

*sigh* unless you want to break the market then no theres nothing you can do about it... just go into google talk and make sure you uncheck sign in automatically then sign out, you wont ever sign in again....the process may run but it hardly uses any recourses, you have to realize that your not actually logged in to google talk, its just runs because the market uses something within that program....so just leave it alone lol
I was complaining about this over at PPCGEEKS. However, since watching my batter life over the day I'm not noticing any problems. When my phone sleeps, battery doesn't drain. When I talk on the phone, the drain is normal. The services gets activated whenever you use a program that utilizes you google log in information.
Others have told me that when the services is running only (i.e., signed out etc), the battery doesn't drain. I've found this to be true today.
Also my push gmail and google voice notifications work consistently now.
Thanks a lot for the answers guys. I guess I'm going to have to deal with it. Also it always signs me in automatically even though I have "sign in automatically" unchecked.

My comment on this is that this behavior is completely different than before the update. It continuing to pop up in running services after signing out of it and killing the app like mentioned before does nothing in the end. Before the update doing the previous would not allow the service to come back up but now after the update it does so something has changed to cause this to happen regardless.
Also I find it odd that when I uncheck auto sign in and manually sign out, then kill the service via running services; and THEN click on GTalk app to open it up it comes up showing me signed in yet auto sign in is unchecked and all. I've tried checking it and unchecking it again, restarting the phone, and trying again and get the same results every time.

... when you open the program (i.e. click on it), you are signed in. It assumes that you opening it means you want to use it.
"Auto sign in" only refers to when you turn your phone on, not when you choose to open the program. Due to Talk's connection to the Market, it will always show in Running Services, but does not use any resources and does not drain any battery life, as long as you are not actively running it.

OK, well is this "connection to the market" NEW with the firmware update then? I ask because it would stay closed before the update and now it keeps coming up in the running services field.
Regardless of if it uses resources or not even if there, before the update it would stay out of the menu and now it keeps poping back up and the ONLY CHANGE is the update so that has something to do with it and I'd like to know what exactly and why.
btw what is the connection it has with the market anyway?

Mine has always appeared in Running Services, still running the original version, so don't know what to tell you.
It's something about linking your account with the market.

If you leave it open and signed in, it certainly draws power as it is using your internet connection to communicate. I couldn't say if it's more or less than anything else, really, I don't leave mine logged in all the time, only hop on occasionally.

Did you remove any apps that may remotely be connected to market/talk? There's no reason those would be FC unless something is missing. As a matter of fact... I don't think they ever FC on me in 2 years of owning Android phones.

I'm not sure the OP means FC. If he/she is talking about what I have experienced, which it sounds like, sometimes you select an app to DL from the market and it'll just sit there. Nothing in the notifications, but if you open the market and go back to the app there will be a download progress bar not, uh...making progress. It's just kinda solid grey with no animation.
In my case, I just canceled the download(s) in the market, and restarted my phone and they worked. Oddly, a full shutdown/turn back on didn't help! Only restart.
I haven't had any problems with GV (except for the wonkiness signing in with a Google Apps account). I'm interested to know what the OP's issue with GV is as well.

You are correct that is exactly what happens most of the time when I try to download apps from the market. The l only reason I mention google talk is because - and I heard someone else mention this on another post - if I simultaneously try to open google talk there is a message (unable to sign in) or something to that affect.
There has been a coupe times where if I just put my phone down and walk away or do other things
It eventually kicks back on and downloads the apps.
This has been my one and only problem so far. Other than this it runs better than any phone I have had.

I'm new to smart phones. The Atrix is my first one. I apologize for asking what may be a very trivial question, but I simply don't know much about apps and services and costs associated with them.
I'm interested in GPS navigation services that I can use with my phone. There is a default app on the Atrix called AT&T Navigation. Is this linked to the AT&T navigation service that costs $9.99 per month?
I don't want to spend a lot of money on a subscription because I don't need driving directions very often. Are there any navigation services that do not require a monthly subscription? Free would be ideal. A low cost per use might do. A monthly subscription service doesn't fit my needs.
Google maps
Just use the navigation app on there or the maps app

well, i personally cant get the navigation app to lock on and work for the freaking life of me. not sure what the prolem is, it just stays loading forever, showing something like "accessing navigation services" or something similar.
my GPS test app does show me locking onto satelites and being accurate within about 16 or 17 feet though

The first hint of an answer I can understand. From the above statement, I infer that Maps is an application that one can obtain from the market. I assume the Market icon that appears on my phone is what is referred to.
When I click on the Market icon, it directs me to create a Google account. Bummer. I'm not all that interested in creating multiple new accounts to use this phone (motoblur, google, what next?)

I am not sure why you're bothered by the need to create a Google account to fully utilize this phone. What's wrong with having a one-stop-shop for all your contacts, calendars, messages, app purchases? Having this account simplifies your life beyond what a PC can do for you since everything is stored in the "cloud", and should you choose to change your device once you'll log in to your new phone all that data will follow you automatically eliminating the need to ever connect your phone to a computer. Anyways, if you want to download apps from the Market you'll need a Google account, plain and simple.
What bothers me the most is the need for yet another account, payment method, and email address to keep track of. I already manage around two dozen personal email accounts and I have several ways to pay for services online. The more email addresses one has, the more spam one must deal with. The more payment methods one has, the more fraud risk one is exposed to.
Besides that, I don't want any contacts associated with an account I use for payments. It appears that I'll have to set up a google account so I can use the Android Market. I hope I can avoid having it disclosed to anyone else.
Do you not have a Gmail account that you use for email?
I do not currently have a Gmail account. But it appears I'm going to end up with one.
Yeah, but thats with any smartphone. You would need an account for the Apple App Store, Blackberry App World, etc. Nothing to be bummed about though

I felt the same way initially. Now with all my shi up on google's cloud I couldn't be happier.
Here is something to consider about the decision to have a google account.
The Dark Side of the New Android Market
So I did the modification of getting hangouts to work over at&t cell towers modifying the gservices.db file with sqlite in
/data/data/com.google.android.gsf/databases/gservices.db
And then under the main tab editing the gtalk_vc_wifi_only to false.
However, this file periodically is reverting back to true and I'm not sure why. I don't always realize it until I try to make a call on hangouts.
If anyone else is having a similar experience or knows the cause please help me out.

GTalk Enabler hasn't been working for me on this phone, although it has on everything else I've used it on. And there's plenty of people saying it does work, so it's always worth a shot. Definitely easier than doing it manually. There are many comments in the ratings area for that app also suggesting that the setting gets reset every time you connect to WiFi.

editing the file definitely works, but something makes it reset. I'm not sure it's reconnecting to the wifi. I did that a few times and the value didn't change. Although, I reconnected to the wifi and rebooted and that seemed to trigger it. The program from the Play Store seems to do the same so it will work only until you disconnect and reboot.

GTalk Enabler does work for me but yes it doesn't stick after wifi then back to cell network. You will have to enable it again in app each time. But for me it's only thing that's working so hopefully the app will be updated or a better solution will come along soon.
I have a workaround for this. Uninstall hangouts. Uninstall Google play services update. Clear play store data. Install market enabler (search for ask on Google). Launch enabler and change to tmo us. Launch play store, install hangouts, run hangouts, update Google play services. Now you should be able to run video chat over cell data. This was persistent through reboot with the market enabler being set on reboot.

Is there a way I can save the whole phone on to drive to send to someone to take a closer look to see what virus is on here Im guessing it's a rootkit some how also what way would you run packet capture to see things that way?

playstore only before my phone was locked boot loader and encrypted to have to use pin to boot device.
AS SOON as i get the buggy phone and reboot when it boots up it no longer request pin to boot. on stock rom i was rebooting phone every week to see how long it would take and usually nothing odd until phone got buggy for reason of the reboot.
the buggy issue is shortly opening an app the app will freeze so i hit home nothing happends try to turn the screen off nothing happends until a minute later sometimes phone will reboot its self or i hold power to make it reboot but both take about same amount of time when phone goes into full freeze.
so it being a playstore app and the virus not getting detected google needs to look into how they can patch this...
so im putting this out there so this person or group doesnt forever have a backdoor into peoples phones.

Drop ES File Explorer, to start. Read this article, or do some googling about it on your own;
https://www.androidpit.com/this-is-why-you-should-not-use-es-file-explorer
I have to agree with the article when it says Solid Explorer is a great replacement. I've used it for years now and it's never let me down.
The fact of the matter is, if you manually wiped all of your phone and formatted your internal storage, nothing remains from pre-wipe. If your issue is coming back it can only be a hardware issue (if applicable) or some app you are using, as previously mentioned.
Furthermore, after googling your exact issue I came to find that certain apps that require 'Accessibility Services' can and will disable your pin/password/pattern on boot. Check if any of your apps fit the bill in 'Settings > Accessibility > Services'
Disable any apps which are enabled and reboot. You may have to set up pin, etc., again, but leave the services disabled and see if the issue returns. Let us know!
Edit: Upon more googling, I've found reports of people who had the issue return after disabling & uninstalling the apps in question as well. You may need to flash stock images again and do not install any apps that require accessibility services, or don't grant any of them permission even once.
Edit2: Just another link to check out;
https://blog.g3rt.nl/android-lollipop-encryption-user-interface-flaw.html
Edit3: Issue tracker link; https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=219498
Edit4: If you logged into your bank app and factory reset or flashed factory images, logging in again after the wipe/flash will show as a new device. Same goes for having login alerts set for Google / Facebook, etc. Your same phone shows as a new device after the flash or wipe. Guaranteed not a virus.

Hi guys
So I have disabled a few apps but the phone activates Google Photos and YouTube on its own, mainly after reboot. I have disabled automatic app updates on Play Store but that didn't do it.
Anyone with an idea on why this keeps happening?
Thanks.
I feel ya ? ... Just keep trying til they stay disabled. it usually takes a few tries to disable it cause Google reactivates them but after a few times they stay deactivated. I only use Google maps but even then It'll even update itself even if you uncheck the do not auto update.
Are you not rooted? I take it that's the only reason not to just remove them entirely?
Last time I ran OOS I removed a bit more than this, but this is an old list I posted. I never had any problems anything in that post.

Does it take more than 10 times? I have disabled plenty already and it updates because of something related to the language of the apps (I have cleared app data but didn't help).

Nope, no root. The solution is very straight forward with root
