Hello Developers,
I am a HK Version Hero user. My region started the OTA 2.1 update for HERO.
I have already restore my Nanbackup to the first 1.5 backup.
When it finished the download, my phone reboot to the recovery mode and start the update and prompted:
E:No signature (231 files)
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted.
My need rom version should be 2.73.721.91.
Anyway that I can update to the new stock rom?
Thanks for the help !!
I got the link for the first OTA download, but I am a new user I cannot post it out.
Is it I just delete the recovery.img file? and it will work?
Thanks again

No, you'd have to re-sign the zipfile. If a file is added/removed or editted, the hashes don't match anymore and no one will be able to flash it.
Learn how to re-sign, or just upload it @ multishare as-is, and request re-signing of it. Mayb someone will help you out .
just take the recovery img out of the ruu and flash it then try to update.Should work then
I have the same problem. I really didnt understand what you just said..
My file is a .zip and can not be flashed with flashrec.
can you explain better for a n00b like me?

you don't flash files with flashrec, you flash them from recovery mode.
and just because something is a .zip doesn't mean it can be flashed. it has to be signed with the appropriate update script.
It like this.
I got an OTA for the 2.1. This generated an error when updating. So i thought i just download the file and do it from recovery mode.
Downloaded the file from here: liveimage.htc.com//OTA_Hero_ChungHwa_3.31.751.1_R-2.73.751.13_release048gnt2ecw16ubyr.zip
The link is not active anymore.
But i still get the same error.
I tried to do a factory reset and do the update after that, but without any luck.
I know this is the update for my phone, but i cant do it. And you guys speak about signing the file before, but i dont know how.
Probably same error for topic starter.
to do what i said you have to boot the phone in recovery.take the files out of the update.zip (or if it a RUU go HERE) in the .zip file should be boot.img,recovery.img,userdata.img,system.img,HBOOT and a few others....
Take out the recovery.img
and flash via fastboot (turn phone one holding back)
open cmd window (windows key + r) type cmd
fastboot flash recovery (drag and drop recover.img into cmd window) press enter
Then try updating
I dont get it to work.
I take out the recovery.img
Turn the phone on by holding 'back' while power on. (Screen with three android skaters)
Then i plug in the usb.
The text 'FASTBOOT' change to 'FASTBOOT USB'
Open cmd (windowskey + r and type cmd adn enter)
Drag and drop the recovery.img to command window and press enter.
This makes the DVD burning application on the computer to start and wants to burn the file.

Maybe you should use fastboot - the program for your pc?
The steps that were told to you were right, but I think you didn't do the last one as you should. Once in the command-line, you have to type "fastboot flash recovery " (yep, there's a space at the end) and then write the path of the recovery image (i.e., if it's in C:\asd\recovery.img, it would be "fastboot flash recovery \asd\recovery.img"), or drag and drop the file to the cmd, and it will write the path.
You know where to get this fastboot program...
I only find this from 2008. Should be a better one with not so much tweaking?

Nope, not really, I use linux.
Thanks for all the help!! I finally upgraded.
I restore to my 1.5 backup and down the update part by part.
I pull out the recovery.img and zip it back and re-sign it, copy to my phone and rename it to Update.zip and flash the first part. Reboot and copy the OTA2 to the phone and also rename it to Update.zip, flash it again. Final reboot, its now the official 2.1 android update. Also the root is still there.
OTA1
Badongo file 23546527
OTA2
Badongo file 23546783
THANKS again!!!
(sorry about the link, they won't let me post it ><)

****IV: Flashing a custom ROM
1. Download the Rooted 2.1 v0.8T2 zip file.
2. Copy the WHOLE zip file to the root directory of your SD card. (You can enable USB-MS enable from your shiny new recovery to mount your phone as a USB Mass Storage device.)
3. Choose Wipe. Choose data/factory Reset (In the stock ROM, the dalvik is stored in the data and you don't have an EXT partition... yet.)
4. Choose Flash zip from sdcard. Find the eris_0_3.zip file.
5. Wait until it shows as complete and choose reboot system now.****
************* ok so in this root process of flashing custom roms it requires using the recovery menu. my trackball is F***ED up and i cant move it down to select any other option then reboot phone. is there another method of flashing a custom rom rather then using the recovery menu? can i use some sdk tool or cmd to flash this? how about renaming the custom rom to PB0000 or whatever it is than flashing it like i did to get 2.1root? please someone reply im dieing to get wireless tether for my xbox for my roadtrip this weekend please reply!!!!!
Umm, you could possibly make a .img file with the contents of the \system\ folder of the rom and then user "fastboot flash system system.img" to put it on there. Not 100% sure if that'd work, but it should.

fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot reboot
^^
ill try your method after I get home from school, unless my dad takes me to Verizon. my trackball limits me a lot from what I can do (wish I could drive haha)

I don't know if it would work but you could to run the MR2 RUU and replace the rom.zip with the one for the 1.5 rollback (renamed rom.zip). I think it will probably give you the version difference error but if nothing else works it's worth a shot.
You'll need to use mkyaffs2image to create a .img file of the \system\ folder of the ROM you want to install. Or maybe someone else will make one for you.
haha I'm not that lucky no one would make one for my sped Eris

DISCLAIMER: I accept no responsibility for the outcome of this. I think it will work, but I can't promise anything.
K, you can try this.
Download these files and place them in your SDK's tools directory.
boot.img: http://www.sendspace.com/file/l404hq
system.img: http://www.sendspace.com/file/7eclsz
Open your command prompt and switch to your tools folder. Boot your phone into FastBoot mode. You can either power it down, then hold VolDown + Power, and select fastboot, or type "adb reboot bootloader" and select fastboot.
Now type these commands in your command prompt.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
If that works, it'll install my eris21official-root ROM onto your phone. Then you can download the wireless tether app off my website and install it. Be sure first thing you do "adb shell" then "su" and allow the Superuser popup that will come on your phone before you attempt to tether.
i love you expect a donation comming ur way and i brought my droid to verizon and im gettign a free one shipped to my house and i keep mine so im double lucky, i can use that as a text droid if u need me to test any roms or anytihng

Your phone has a warranty. Downgrade fully to 1.5 and call them.
Or, if you want to completely make sure it's void, but have a working trackball, put in a new one.

Hi Guys,
A while ago I used the flashrec app to flash a custom recovery on my unlocked hero which worked well. I'd been using this for ages to flash custom rooted roms etc onto my device.
Today I decided to update the recovery rom to recovery-ra-hero-v1.6.2.img by terminal emulator. (su, flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-ra-hero-v1.6.2.img). This didn't work! When I try and enter recovery mode (hold down HOME whilst booting), it freezes.
I can still get into my rooted rom, and it still appears via adb, but I cannot flash any custom recoveries! When I try to flash via adb I get the wonderful 'downloading 'boot.img'... FAILED (remote: not allow)' error.
Any idea how I can flash the recovery?
Cheers,
Matt
Have you tried using Flashrec again?

5. Download this APK and recovery image and save it to your computer:
http://zenthought.org/content/project/flashrec - FlashRec.apk
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124 - Amon_Ra’s Hero Recovery Image
6. Copy them both to your SD card (do NOT put them inside any folders on the SD card, just put them on the SD card itself).
7. Unplug the phone from the computer once they are downloaded to the SD card.
8. Go to the Market and download ASTRO File Manager or any file manager program if you do not already have one.
9. Open the file manager and find the FlashRec apk file and click it and choose open app manager and then install it.
10. When it is installed click Open. Click on Backup Recovery Image and wait for it to finish. If you get "backup failed" response see the text on the right for more details, if the backup is a success carry on to step 11.
a. Installing the correct HTC ROM
Orange UK Users - Please downgrade your ROM version to 2.73.61.5
Generic Hero Users - Please downgrade to 2.73.405.5, or follow the goldcard method if this doesn't work
T-Mobile UK Users – Please follow the "Goldcard" method below
All Other Users - Please follow the "Goldcard" method below
11. Once done, click on the empty text box in the FlashRec program and type:
/sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img
(replace exact name as new versions come out)
Then click on the Flash Recovery Image button and wait for it to finish.

I have yes, forgot to say in OP - sorry! It gives the generic 'flashing failed' message.
I think I've narrowed it down to my running hboot 1.76.0007. Am I right in thinking this version doesn't allow non-htc images to be booted?
I wouldn't know about the hboot stuff sorry...
... But I did once read that an older version of Flashrec worked where the latest did not,... worth a try?
http://code.google.com/p/flashrec/downloads/detail?name=flashrec-1.1.2-20090909.apk
Same error - backup failed: could not run command.
I have a android backup which should include the previous recovery image. Is there any way of restoring that from a terminal in the rom or via adb?
I don't think a Nandroid backup covers the recovery... and I wouldn't know about restoring it through adb.
Only other things I can think of are,...
1... Find out how to update recovery through fastboot? ( I once looked into this but dint get v-far)
2... Run a HTC RUU .exe and start from scratch.
I'd go option 2 for ease, 1 if you want to educate yourself.
I think I've already tried number 1 - "fastboot flash recovery recovery-ra-hero-v1.6.2.img" and got an error: "remote does not allow".
Looks like I'm going to have to go down the RUU route. Hopefully I'll be able to restore a recent nandroid backup once it's complete!
Thanks for your help!
i rooted my mobile using alpharev and it turned my s-off and installed clockwork recovery mod 3.0.0.6 ,later i downloaded cynogen mod 7, and while updating it hung on now it is not at all booting it just shows htc in boot screev and reeboots again and again pls help me
Go back into recovery, wipe data and cache and the reflash CM7
Its definitely not bricked, so dont worry. Firstly, make sure you have wiped all data in Clockworkmod (Wipe Data / Factory Reset Option, Wipe Cache Partition also Format /system under Advanced). Once you have done this, try reflashing the CM7 ROM File. It should work. Reboot into Recovery by turning off your phone, pressing Vol Down + Power, Navigating to Recovery, and Pressing Power Button on it.
If it still fails, it would be better to use an updated version of Clockworkmod Recovery. This solved the bootloop issue for a few users.

- First, Download the attachment in that thread, Place it somewhere, like on your C Drive, in a Folder called Fastboot.
- Then, Download the Updated Clockworkmod Recovery (Again linked in that thread). Extract the Recovery.img file from within the Zip file and place it in the Fastboot folder created in the step before.
- Connect your Wildfire to your PC. Turn it off, and turn on in HBoot Mode. (When your phone is switched off, then Press Vol Down + Power Simultaneously. Then, Navigate to Fastboot using the Volume Keys, and Press the Power Button. Your Wildfire is now in Fastboot Mode.
- Then, Open Command Prompt, and put in the following. (I am assuming your folder is created in C > Fastboot)
cd\
cd Fastboot
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
(In the third step, I am assuming that the file name of the updated Clockworkmod Recovery is recovery.img) It will show two steps - Sending Recovery, and Writing Recovery. After this is done, your phone has the newer version of Clockworkmod Recovery and you can flash the ROM all over again and test.

Command Prompt is to be opened on your Windows PC. Not on your mobile. Once you have entered into Fastboot Mode and your Wildfire is connected to your PC, thats all you need to do.
Open Start Menu. Then Select Run. Then type "cmd" (Without Quotes) and Press Enter. This will open the Command Prompt. Then follow what I said before.
(Note - If your folders name is fast boot, then replace fastboot in the commands above with fast boot. It's basically the name of your folder).
Rename the IMG file you extracted to Recovery.img, it will typing the command easier.
Lastly, my only request to you - Make only 1 post at a time. Others here are normal members and not someone with the full day free . When you continuously post something, its frustrating to read and I dont feel like replying anymore to that person.

Dont worry about it. That was just my view.
Anyway, I hope the folder creation was correct. I hope that when you extracted the Android Win Tools folder into your C:\Fastboot folder, you deleted the original folder?
ie:, In your Fastboot folder, you shouldnt have any other folder/sub folder, and it must contain only these 4 files:
- adb.exe
- AdbWinApi.dll
- AdbWinUsbApi.dll
- Fastboot.exe
Once you have ensured this, then make sure you enter Fastboot mode on your Wildfire Correctly.
- Start HBoot mode
- Then Plug in the USB Cable
- Press Power Button, then another set 4 Options will appear, the first being Fastboot
- Then Press Power Button again
After this, try running the commands in command prompt again. Let me know how it goes.
And it you still face any issues with fastboot flashing, then see my sign for the post link to complete guide. Go there and download attached pc49img.zip and put it on your root of memory card (formatted previously with fat32 partition) . Then reboot to hboot menu to update the recovery. That's all.

Great, Hope they were followed by the words "OK". If so, you have the new Recovery 3.2.0.0 on your Wildfire.
Getting the hang of Fastboot is very important IMO. It helps flashing Recoveries in 1 go, and, also helps restoring Nandroid Restores, among many other features. I am glad you have experienced it, and, not gone the "PC49IMG" way.
Need to be flashed via fastboot
Doesn't matter which ROM you are using !
Just flash it !
You will be on stock 5.1
Steps :
Download and install Moto E drivers on your pc. Link : https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_detail/a_id/99012/p/30,6720,9146
Download mfastboot files and extract the files in a folder. Link :https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B05Crz57q4zgZE1aVW5FT1RsUUU&usp=sharing
Download Stock firmware for XT1022 and extract the files to the same folder. Link :https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B05Crz57q4zgbFQ5b0dDck5yWGc/view?usp=sharing
Now, reboot your phone into bootloader by pressing volume down + power for a few seconds. You will see the bootloader screen.
Go to the folder where you have extracted Stock Firmware and mfastboot files and open command prompt there (Press shift + right mouse button and click on open command prompt)
Now, its the time to enter commands. Execute these lines of command one by one checking that each command you executed returned ok !

I didn't duplicate.
I respect that post but that has been edited and the stock ROM for XT1022 has been added later to that post.
thanx
Is this working?
Which are the fastboot/adb commands?
All of them are to be executed when flashing?
My Phone isn't booting, how to flash Stock ROM?

lul
thank you
Can the rom zip file be flashed from the stock recovery?, i dont have twrp and my pc wont detect my phone when i its connected via usb cable. My moto e is bootloader unlocked, and its stuck at the bootloader unlocked warning message and i can boot to recovery, so i was thinking mabe i could flash the stock rom zip file from the stock recovery
Soooo, theoretically if one were to follow these same steps on a XT803C (Straight talk Moto E CDMA variant), would this boot or brick? Haha, sorry I know how tough that is to answer, but this phone is $26 on NewEgg & I'd love to break it, I don't care about modem working, it will never have service just wifi only, so I figured id ask xD
Thanks
i have stucked at bootloader while iam flashing it says preflash verification failed and i didn't even root my device, please help me

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello there. So I have my Huawei P10 plus for about a half year now, and I found out the huawei's unlock bootloader code site worked, so I just jumped straight at it and unlocked my bootloader.
Everything went well, i could go into fastboot, installed twrp, everything worked fine. Rooted the phone bblablabla..... Then I realised I could not use Snapchat anymore because of the root.
So, I had SuperSu installed. I tried to unroot via there, didn't work. So I clicked "use another root app", wich basicly bricked my phone - i think - . After doing that, supersu wasn't gone yet. So I flashed it away with a zip in TWRP. That broke everything.
Snapchat worked, so I didn't bother that much. But the thing is,
i couldn't change theme of my phone
i couldn't update system anymore.
I tried over 10 days trying to get this fixed but nothing seems to help.
forcing into fastboot, twrp, or huawei's eRecovery, it all just bootst into the default boot or phone.
I have lost all hope and I don't honestly know what to do.
So I can still use my phone, but I can't do system updates or change the theme, and probably more things I didn't yet have found out. I'm sorry if my English is pritty broke, I'm just so pissed off atm I just don't know what to do anymore except for making a post like I'm doing now.
Please, help me.
Thank you.
PS: I know what some people are going to say: reinstall or flash the default rom and hard factory reset. Okay good, first of all I can NOWHERE ON THE ENTIRE INTERNET find my default ROM (boot.img etc), and I can't flash ANYTHING cuz i cant go into fastboot or TWRP.
i am ded
plz help
Hey!
So yeah, just flash your default rom.
It will wipe everything.
For this you have to use firmware finder, or go to this site (for VTR-L09. Type VTR-L29 in the search bar if you have this variant).
Click on filelist when you see : 2018.02.11 VTR-L09C432B185 (/!\ latest Nougat update).
Copy and past the first link that the filelist will provide.
Then download Huawei Update Extractor and Huawei Multi-Tool.
Open the update.zip file and extract the UPDATE.APP somewhere.
Open Huawei Firmware Extractor, click on " ... "and select your UPDATE.APP file.
Right click somewhere in the list and select "Extract all".
Extract everything to a new folder.
Power-off your phone, press vol-, plug your phone to your PC and press power (while vol- is pushed down). You should be in fastboot mode.
Open Multi-tool, go to the Unbrick tab, click on Specify a folder, select the folder that you have extracted the UPDATE.APP to, and hit OK.
If all the boxes are checked (System.img, boot.img, cust.img, recovery.img and userdata.img), you should be able to click the "Brick" button.
If you don't have cust, then you'll have to download the files on the 2nd and 3rd link that I gave you earlier, one of them contains an UPDATE.APP file, you have to extract it and extract its content with Update Extractor to the same folder that you have extracted the content of the previous UPDATE.APP file.
It will take time to flash, but when it's done, it's written in the Progress window in multitool.
When you're done, just update to oreo and follow the TWRP tutorial for oreo and the one for magisk, SuperSU is really outdated.
Well I just did a quick read at your text and saw you needed fastboot. I think you didn't read my post. I can not enter fastboot, otherwise I could have probably fixed it myself. Any suggestions?

I read your post.
Usually to enter fastboot you press vol- and power, but with TWRP you can't do this anymore (my case).
That's why I said : vol-, plug the phone to your pc and instantly press power while pushing vol-, that's the only way that I can enter fastboot, give it a try :good:
