my rep told me they could add it but of course he was wrong. now im sitting here with 450$ pda.
i tried over the phone and online. both said no. sooo my rep is going to put in a request with demo team but that will take a week or two.

Sadly you can't. If anything you could possibly go into something like an everything data plus plan or something along that line, but since the phone is plan specific it will require that you do switch. The old free and clear plans are pointless on this phone or with any new smart phone for that matter.
Av, from what I understand, nobody will be allowed to add it to their plans until late July, and if you try to circumvent it and slip it through? Instant termination or either job or privileges. They're actively searching employee and indirect accounts for these.
Which one exactly is it, the $20 one?

I'm a Sprint Rep for Best Buy and I have been led to believe that 3rd party or Concession plans will be allowed to swap esn's to the Evo as long as they purchase the device outright. If you activate it on a consumer plan and then ask your Rep to submit a request to have it converted to an employee plan, it will get denied.
If you paid full retail price for your Evo, please politely as your Rep to try again and explain exactly how you acquired the Evo. I can't make any garuntees that it will be swapped, but it's worth a shot.
Worst case scenario, you wait until Sprint gives the green light on Evo's for employees sometime in July. Either way, I can assure you that this device is worth the wait.

To my knowledge, and from the memos we've received at Radioshack, NO ONE is allowed an Evo on an employee plan, regardless of method. That means RS, BB, even Sprint employees themselves are not allowed the phone. I assume the same reason why they never let employees have a phone involving a major launch: the more employees that buy, the fewer consumers can buy.
I'm sure it'll make a great alarm clock until Sprint releases the block on the device in July.
I'm currently using the Evo on a Advantage Club plan, but I have to pay the 10$ add on. So all in all its 30$ a month.
Well I'm on the $20 3000 free n clear plan. I called in on Friday night to try and activate my evo on my account, it was 5 minutes till 12:00am central time and the customer care rep that was helping me couldn't get my evo active. He then requested assistance from his manager do add the $10 premium data soc code on my account. I am now tremendously happy with my evo, it is an amazing device!
FYI just as a regular customer the premium data does have an additional cost of $10 but it is well worth it. As for the hotspot app works fine for now with out the $29.99 soc code add on. I went on my account online to see if I could view what the premium data soc code was but no luck, it comes up as premium data. Hope this helps someone else.

Whoever the employee is that's attached to your plan? Expect them to get fired VERY soon. They're actively scanning all employee and Advantage plans for EVO ESNs.
hello guys, i'm also part of the free and clear 3000 plan and had a couple questions. My first question is does the $20 plan include roaming? I have been paying the $5 fee for the past 2 years and was curious if i actually need to pay it? Or is it already included and I'm just paying extra.
My second question is has anyone figured out an easier method of getting our accounts switched over to the newest plan for the HTC EVO 4G. Any way we can do an ESN Swap on the Sprint website?
I do not work at radioShack anymore and was wondering if anyone has asked for authentication to make sure they still work there.
Is it as easy as calling up and talking to the right person? They wouldnt transfer me to another line that would start questioning me about whether i still work there or not, would they?

You have to go through the channel that setup your account as you were a radioshack employee. I'm a Sprint employee and I have my Evo unl on the $0 plan...
I've been following the Galaxy S and Vibrant releases for a while and love the Vibrant. I however have a problem concerning plans. Since I will only be using its Internet capabilities where I have Wi-Fi (college, home, work), I have no need or desire for a data plan. T-Mobile REQUIRES new devices are sold with data plans so my question is.
1.Would getting a Vibrant from Ebay (for ~$500) and using my old SIM be the best option?
2. Can I just walk into a Tmobile store and tell them I want to purchase a RETAIL ($500) Vibrant with no contract or SIM and get one that way (or are they going to add a data plan and ask me for my Tmobile line credentials to do so)?
3. Is getting a Vibrant on contract for $200 + data plan and then cancelling the contract after the 15th day the cheapest option?
I suppose I would prefer to buy it from Tmobile, even at retail price since I get the manufacturer insurance of 1 year (have needed it before) free though if not possible, Ebay is an option too. I'm just looking at getting it as cheap as possible without having to do a 2-year data plan contract.

i believe you can cancel the data plan after or during the first month but i'm not the expert
costco WAS selling Vibrants off-contract (even more plans) for $229. not sure if its still ongoing.
Either costco or t-mobile. At costco they have to tie it it to a new phone line, which you can cancel at any time since you aren't under contact, pretty sure there is no fee.
I opted to but at tmo, and have the price split up over 20 payments interest free. I already had an existing android plan though.

Even More plans are contract plans. Are you talking about Even More Plus plans?
Go by a T-Mobile store and ask or call their customer service. You'll get a much better answer straight from the horse's mouth than you will from here.
I've heard about people trying to get a discounted phone with a new contract or making changes to their plan so they qualify and then immediately change things around in a manner that would disqualify them from the discount after they got it and then T-Mobile hit them with the remaining amount for the full price of the phone in their next bill. I guess it's their way of saying "cheaters never prosper".
If I buy it from Tmobile with ANY sort of contract...Even more Plus or Even More, they WILL add a data plan to it. There is also activation fees for a new line so not only will I have to pay the $500 for an even more plus plan, but I would have to CANCEL the line...in that case I may as well get it off of Ebay and save myself the hassle of all that.
The T-Mo forums are really helpful with everything other than development. Try there or stop at an official T-Mo store. The third party official partner places get paid to sell contracts. I've had some bad experiences on eBay and had to go to resolution with the seller twice on pre-smartphone phones, so beware.

If I were you and looking for a SGS I'd buy the full model that has all the extras... or possibly even the version with a slide out keyboard and ffc. The SGS Pro i believe it is.

Wrong carrier on one occasion and got a refurbished instead of new phone the other time. I have gotten good deals as well, so it's a crapshoot. I probably didn't screen the seller as well as I should have, just looked at the overall rating.

Nope. A memo was sent out and they raised the price Tuesday morning to $479. Think the $250 was a pricing error.

I got my phone for $325 and on top of that, 35% off activation and the $59 plan.
so my total saving was $208
But bing is ending its cashback program at the end of july so better hurry!
I don't see the gold $ when I search t-mobile nor when I do my shopping after clicking through bing do I get the discount.

I went to check the phone out the phone at a local store and someone was playing with the demo so the rep let me play with his personal phone. I noticed he had the su app installed lol

I totally agree! I recently switched our 5 phones over from AT&t and we went with Even More Plus because it's cheaper in the long run and no contract. However, we had to pay full price for the phones. Two of them were basic flip phones, but three of them were Samsung Vibrants at $500 apiece. We bought them at a T-Mobile corporate store and the most they did for us was waive the activation fee (which I found out would have been done anyway as a AAA member) and give us one free car charger when we bought the other two. We shelled out $1500 for the three Vibrants and we could have paid $750 at Costco!!!!! We're still in our 14 day return period, obviously, so if this is all true I'm going to call T-Mobile and see what can be done.

The Vibrant is $250 with a $50 mail in rebate to bring it to $200. I am assuming (but could be wrong) that you'll be out $150 with a $50 MIR through Wirefly.
TMo's unlimited data is just that, unlimited (within reason). If you're streaming movies from somewhere they're going to say "No, it's not really unlimited". OTOH, if you're streaming movies over HSPA you have other issues than worrying about your data bill. Best confine that activity to when you're on WiFi.
You will get unlimited texting with Google Voice, but not unlimited minutes.
If you go through tmo and get in touch with their loyalty department, they will give you a good deal especially if you've been a customer for a while... Plus you get the warranty through them and the insurance through assurian...

tmobile has a soft cap on data at 5gb. What this means is that once you go over 5gb they throttle your data, they don't charge you more.
the unlimited calling though google voice no longer works, you can still do txt messaging for free.
I get to 10gb and I get a text saying my bandwith will be cut until next billing cycle. I have an older contract...still have Myfaves.
I just checked. My data plan is $34.99! Thats why I probally get 10gb before Tmob gets mad.
I did 7gigs last month... No prob from tmo... 5 last month...

Is Amazon any good? I've bought other products from them, but I've never got a phone on contract through them. Any experience with them?
Go to a local frys in CA, they have it for $79.99 for new activations.
1. Wirefly requires sub-contracts that T-Mobile doesn't do. i.e. If you break contract/change plan within a set timeframe, Wirefly may charge you extra fees that T-Mobile would not (outside of the ETF). Typically it's better to go through tmo but if you don't mind the risk you MAY save some money with Wirefly/Amazon/etc.
2. The data soft cap is 10gb for everyone. The 5gb cap ONLY applies to USB data sticks. There is no surcharge for going over the 10gb.
3. Skip any warranty you have to pay for. Add insurance through tmo.
4. Only downside I can think of with depending on GV for voice/text is the reliance on data connection. If you're anywhere that has a spotty connection or roam on a different network you may be SOL.
5. Plans are the same, just worded differently.
6. I've heard of many problems with third-party dealers in general, but I'm a little biased towards the quality of corporate stores. =)
Wirefly is hit and miss. Usually to get said rebates you have to agree to certain standards and even then its hard to get the rebates. I work in a Tmo store and have had to fix issues made by wirefly. Plus like other people have said you will have to agree to a secondary contract with wirefly.

1- if you are not eligible for a full upgrade good luck dealing with a third party, odds are once they see that they won't even talk to you, and all third party full no contract phones are more expensive.
5- No third party dealer will ever have plans that you can not get at a t-mobile store. You can get a plan without texts anywhere. If anything you get more flexibility at a corporate store because the employees will know what they are doing in the computer and may find you a better deal.
I mean this in the nicest way - you seem to have a lot of questions, you should probably go to a corporate store and let them help you. You could easily be taken advantage of by a third party dealer.
I bought my Vibrant from Wirefly, for an extremely early upgrade(after breaking my poor Nexus that Google gave to me for free ), and have been pleased with the experience. I felt the discount was extremely fair, as I still had almost a year left on my contract, and the order went through smooth and fast. Its actually the second time I've dealt with them(Ironically, the first was another Sammy phone which lasted me nearly 2 years before getting the G1). I honestly have recommended to friends Wirefly because of my transactions with them.
As others have mentioned, there is a secondary contract that applies to you keeping a fixed rated plan with T-Mobile, meaning if you had a 1000 minute plan, and decide to drop it to 500 before Wirefly gives you a thumbs up, they will start charging your card extra. If you don't do this much, you might find it to be a fair trade-off

As mentioned, early upgrades are USUALLY a no-go with 3rd-party dealers.
Plan flexibility is definitely not more available in non t-mo sites. Call em up or pop into a store and you can find all sorts of options, not to mention the fact that they'll review what you actually use instead of leaving you with the guesswork.
In fact, before you even consider ordering one through wirefly, you may want to call up customer care and see if they'll help you out. They'll do a lot of nice things for loyal customers. Although even if they can't I would prefer to pay a little more and not have to hassle with a different company.
Tmo Rep here. If you already have a T-Mobile account and you are near the end of contract date, you can get excellent deals from the Loyalty Department. They have a lot of flexibility in pricing because their job is to keep you from canceling so usually they will give you really nice deals to stay.
In terms of Corp vs 3rd Party, it really depends on where you go. I've been to Best Buys where employees knew their stuff about phones and plans and I know of other corporate stores in my area where the reps don't know what they are doing.
If you are a new customer, try bringing that Wirefly price into a store and see if they will give it to you. "Technically" we aren't supposed to pricematch websites but go to the right store, they will do it for you. I pricematch stuff all of the time lol

I'm in that same boat... Usually you can re-coup most of what you paid for the original unit and come out very little out of pocket to pick up a new handset.
I bought two at full price. I'm also on the best plan available to mankind, EM+ no contract.
Full price and in my hands. Screen is nice.

It's the even more plus plan. They stopped featuring it on the website but are (as of now) still selling it through t-mobile stores. It's not officially promoted anymore that's why you have to ask for it at your local t-mobile store.
With the EM+ plan I get 2 lines, 1500 minutes, unlimited text and web for $120. Saves me having to get a landline.
It is available at tmobile. EM+ is $59.99 for unlimited text, unlimited data and 500 minutes. If you buy this phone on contract, the exact same plan costs $79.99 and you tied to tmobile for 2 years. It is much cheaper buying the phone at full price and getting the cheaper plan on EM+.

I make over 80k a year and have a 700 credit score and they wouldn't give it to me for $199. I could only get $100 off with a 2 year service plan. Wtf?

I had to get mine for full price. Apparently I was only eligible for some thing where I pay the first month upfront and pay slightly more for the phone because my credit doesn't exist, and the Nexus couldn't be activated with that option. Instead, I got a "free" phone with contract, then I just got an unlocked Nexus to put on my account. Unfortunately, they'd only let me get a free Sony Ericsson instead of an LG Optimus since it was their idea in the first place. Best Buy did pay my first month's contract and all fees that go with the first activation, though. That made me very happy since it was about $190.

Do what I did:
Get a 2-year contract with a free LG Optimus then get an unlocked Nexus. You can sell the Optimus for quite a bit (definitely more than $100).

yeah. My idea is to do what someone else suggested. Go get a free phone and then pay full price for the Nexus S. I can sell the free phone andmake soem $$ back. OR i could just get a contract free monthly plan and buy the Nexus S for full price. That way i wont be locked into a contract. Problem is, there is only 4 stores in my area that are the Best Buy Mobile stores where they have boxes and boxes of Nexus S phones.
To be honest, i dont know what the problem is with the Best Buy Mobile i went to. If i can qualify for a $250,000 house with no issues, i think i can buy a dam phone for the 2 year contract price.
Lets see how much i can sell the Nexus One i have for on Craigslist. That may help me decide.

So, I'm in the store, bewildered, and then asked them to put the plan in my wife's name (I was getting a family plan). So, we type in all her info, totally expecting everything to be ok, and her credit check comes back exactly the same as mine.
We have good credit, my wife and I make good money, and we pay our bills on time. I'm still in shock.
I've spent all day on the phone with Best Buy, T-Mobile, and Transunion to try and figure out what happened and I still don't know.
The only thing I can think of is we recently bought a new home and we've only been there for 1.5 years, but seriously. All this because of that?!
And the guy at Best Buy is telling me about this Flex Plan thing, and I'm just like, hold up -- just give me the two year contract. I totally didn't understand what he was saying. And he's telling me like he's doing me a favor -- pay $480 for the Nexus S and pay the same $140/mo contract deal -- what? Why would I want to do that?

The one thing we have in common is a recent house purchase. Mine is about 14 months. My credit is fine, not perfect, but still very good.
I felt the same exact way "just give me the 2 year contract price and stop trying to confuse the **** out of me with all this other crap."
Why the hell would I pay $490 for a phone AND a 2 year contract when I can just buy the stupid phone for $530? I think ill just wait for an att version or the PlayStation phone. Screw T-Mobile.

I ordered it on T-Mobile out of desperation bc I didnt want to wait another 3 weeks for google to get it in. Ill have it on monday and find out how much t-mobile has put their crap on the phone. Anyways when i agreed to the new contract the etf read to me over the phone was said to be up to 200 dollars. I would tell you that if you dont return the equipment they will charge you the etf and the retail price of the phone.
What sense would it make for T-Mobile to allow you to do this? More than likely, they're going to force you to pay full price for the device as well.

I don't see why not, there's nothing in their terms that forbids it. I just wanted to see if anyone else has tried it
Yes, so you'll pay $199 plus $200 ETF plus first month of service plus tax and activation fee. So it's about the same as buying it outright.

I got the phone through T-Mobile. I can confirm there is no T-Mobile bloatware on it. It is pure Android 4.2 goodness

I think it also affects your credit if you cancel the contract.
phone bills doesnt count towards credit score. I would of had beautiful credit score by now
if you cancel they charge you there full retail price

someone on reddit did it, so i followed suit. i'll end up paying a bit more with the first month's cost, but other than that, if you sign up for it with a classic plan and not a value plan(that means you'd be paying for the device full retail or with month payments), you'll just be paying $200+$200ETF+Tax+$35 Activation+first month of service, but that not much more than you'd be paying besides, and you're getting the service, so...
I haven't actually cancelled the contract yet as i was just planning to do it online, but their website has been slow today, and it doesnt seem that i can fully access my account online yet.
well for all that 430 might just buy it outright save yourself the hassle

You guys really need to become a bit more patient. I'm one of the biggest Android enthusiasts out there and I'm without a phone because my Galaxy Nexus is being repaired but I'm still waiting despite back order status.
I hate to be a little political and tell people how they should be spending their money but if you wanted to piss it away by paying about an extra hundred dollars for a phone you can get readily on eBay for about $50 less or you know, just wait like everyone else, you could've donated that amount and saved a fair number of lives in Africa or insert other third world country.

I believe that problem does not apply to me. Giving people money blindly does not guarantee that their lives will improve. Those countries need infrastructure, not money.

No, it won't. If you pay the ETF, you've complied with the terms of the contract. It would only be reported to a credit agency if you refused to pay the ETF and they decided to send it to report you to the credit bureaus.

The only way you can cancel is by calling customer service. You can't do it online or at a T-Mobile store.
