Hello,
This is my first post and require some expertise.
I'm new to all this, so if I could get some help.
I did a search and could not find an answer to my following problems.
#1: I am hoping that someone can help me find my answer with a constant message that pops up and stating that "Windows Live Hotmail is temporarily unavailable. Please try again."
I have Hotmail as my email and I have installed the Core Cell Series ROM...not sure if that has anything to do with my problem.
I have full four bars "H" reception and WiFi is also connect...no problem with internet.
I have the Send/Receive email automatically unchecked within Mail Setup.
I can't figure out why I am receiving this message every minute!
#2: How can I delete/remove the current Windows Live in order for me to install Windows Live 11 from Marketplace?
#3: Tried to install CoOkie.HomeTab v1.8.5, but Editor not functional...why?
I ended up uninstalling it and kept CHT v1.7.1.2.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
William
#3: Did you use CHT editor v1.8.5? It worked for for me along with the CHT 1.8.5.
I installed v1.8.5, but when I go to edit the program it isn't possible.
On the home screen I go into menu and CoOkie's Home Tab Editor displays an error screen: "An unexpected error has occurred in CHTEditor.exe.
Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information"
Details displays:
CHTEditor.exe
NullReferenceException
at
CHTEditor.CHTEditor_MainWindow.Check Version()
at
CHTEditor.CHTEditor_MainWindow..ctor()
at CHTEditor.CHTEditor.Program.Main(String[]
args)
Can someone please explain what went wrong and how can I correct this?
Please more suggestions!
Thanks.
when i installed cht 1.8 mine too didnt work with the menu - cht editor, but in start menu it worked fine.
Turns out there is a mistake in the registry (well, there was for me, worth a look)
get a reg editor and browse to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila
find
CHTE.Path
and make sure there isn't a double \\ at the start.
It should read
\Program Files\CHTEditor\CHTEditor.exe
mine said
\\Program Files\CHTEditor\CHTEditor.exe
get rid of the extra \ and it will work.
Cookie also recommends you remove 1.7 before installing 1.8. (i think, not read the thread in a week.)
CHT problem resolved!
I reinstalled CHT Editor 1.8.5.1 and now it is working correctly.
The 2 other issues are still a current problem.
I'm now receiving this following message: "Voice Command has quit due to low memory. Close running programs and try again"
I do not have any programs running and I have not selected the Voice Command function.
Can someone please explain.
Now that CHT v1.8.5 is installed, I am unable to change the main wallpaper...there was no problem with CHT v1.7.
How do I remove the previous CHT v1.7?
Help please?
Still looking for some assistance regarding the pop up message "Voice Command has quit due to low memory. Close running programs and try again"
According to running CleanRam program 271.23 MB Current Free Memory.
I do not have any other programs running.
The message "Windows Live Hotmail is temporarily unavailable. Please try again." has resolved itself and is no longer appearing.
Thank you samsamuel for you response!
Thanks!
Sorry to be so persistence, but I need some assistance with these issues.
I have cleanRam & Clear Temp and run these programs often to clear up as much as possible.
I have read that going into the Task manager and closing some of the tasks will help, but I don't know how to go about it. Once I have opened the program, I don't know what to do and which programs can be closed.
Can someone please give a step by step guide on how to do this?
Thank you.

T-Mobile HTC HD2
Manilla version 2.5.20132227.0
Core Cell Series WWE
1.8.5 CoOkies Home Tab
Radio version 2.10.50.28_2
I'm located in the Boston, MA area and would like to know if a better radio will help my current data signal. Most of the time it is on edge and my wifi signal isn't very strong either. I could be right next to my router and still have problem staying connected.
Still need advise regarding the Voice Command problem too.
Thanks!

I use 2.12.50.2_2 with TMO works great in my area, give it a try, you pretty much can change radios all you want and will not hurt anything else, as long as you stick with a x.x.50.x.x radio ..
umm if you dont use voice command
dissable voice comand in settings/menu/all settings /personal / buttons, and you should be good to go!? lol i never got that but i have disabbled long press send key for voice command

Dragion, I'm in Providence and having great results with 2.11.50.20. Battery is good, signal is great.
Thank you for all the replies!
jiggahj,
I actually need to use voice command with both my BT headset & BT handsfree in my car...disabling it is not an option for me.
watcher64,
I went into CHTeditor and changed the wallpaper mode to "Regular" and still was unable to change it...not sure why I can't do this?
watcher64 & mikeeed,
I would like to try both of your suggestions, but don't know how to go about it.
The ROM I currently have came with the radio 2.10.50.28_2, so I haven't changed it. I'm currently have been getting better reception lately with "H" connections when I turn off the wifi...plus wifi seems to be more stable.
My battery last all day, since I charge my HD2 each and every night. I have both BT & wifi on most of the time...I've never went below 20% even with heavy web surfing.
Should I stick with this radio version or try the ones you guys suggested?
I would need to be directed in how to change it and I would greatly appreciate the help in doing so!
Please keep the suggestion coming...!
Dragion, try this to get your wallpaper back:
Remove the data found at HKCU\Software\HTC\Manila\HomeBackgroundPath (don't delete the key, just the valuedata)

That's an entry in the registry in your phone, you'd need a registry editor to be able to make the change. There's several free ones available here, I personally use PHM Regedit. However, if you're not familiar with doing things in the registry it's something you'll need to be very careful with.
@watcher, even though he's trying to make the change in CHT (as opposed to using an HDWall cab), that reg value can still clear up "stuck" backgrounds where the image won't display at all...doesn't always work, but it might be able to clear this up.

Agreed , but I was just not sure what he was NOT seeing was the sense background, it does not change when you change the wallpaper from the home settings, if you have CHT installed ...
Thanks guys for all the advice.
watcher64,
Yes, I'm only trying to change the wallpaper on the home screen.
I had no problem changing it with CHT 1.7...only with CHT 1.8.5.
Nothing is selected in CHTeditor.
I did not install HDwall cab...unless it is part of Core Cell Series ROM.
I manage to change the Today screen, but nothing else.
Lock screen & Home screen are both the same.
The background with 1.8.5 is black with weather.
sirphunkee,
I do have PHM Regedit installed, but don't understand the process on what to do.
Can you guide me step by step?
I'm wondering if the Core Cell ROM conflicts with CHT 1.8.5?
Thanks again for the help.

I found that entry a few days ago. I tried it, but nothing happens.
What do you can see/do in engeneering mode?
Just tried it. It opened a tabbed dialog that shows all the info the phone is getting from the cellular network.
Tower number, GPRS settings and a lot of stuff I know nothing about. Nice diagnostic tool.
P.S.
funnysurf, did you dial the number correctly? For me it opened the second I entered the last *. (on Jamin, ROM 2.13.9.123)
It works... Latest Dopod ROM.
HTC Engineering Mode
I've been hunting for a way to see this info. I design cellular networks and this stuff is my second language. However, I don't see anything in any fields of GSM Test Mode. They start with "N/A" then immediately go blank. I've done the registry setting but no change. When I do the '*#'-thing, I get nada. Got any clues?
FYI- I found a program called NiceTrack that shows only some of this info, so I know it's in there somewhere, but I need to see more.
jott2me, post your ROM version. On the Dopod's 2.15 it works.
GSM Test Mode
The key word is “built in” If you have a little program GSM TestMode.exe in your windows directory, this registry tweak makes this program visible and executable. Plus don’t forget to soft reset your device in order for registry modification to take effect.
By the way, if you use this data a lot, you can make a shortcut to this utility as to any executable. No need to dial the *# a hundred times. Or just add it to your speed dial…
You guys sure respond fast! Wow! And thanks!
JWalker, here's my info:
ROM version: 1.8.10.2 WWE
ROM date: 12/10/05
Radio version: 01.09.10
Protocol version: 4.0.13.20
ExtROM version: 1.8.10.104
(I've only had this about a month so I'm leary of changing ROM versions.)
aleksandr,
I'm running Spb's Today screen (it's nice) and I've got an icon that puts me right into GSMTestMode.exe when the reg tweak is set to 1. I've reset several times still no luck seeing info. I made a contact with the '*#' stuff but when I dial it, I get, "The number you have dialed..." message.
Am I missing something?
Thanks for your help.
GSM menu
How did you reset your device, programmatic soft reset or with your stylus? Soft reset with stylus will erase registry modifications without saving them. Sorry, don't mean to use "dummy" talk, just want to make sure all proper steps are followed to eliminate all possible reasons in order to find the solution. Another reason for this issue could be in rom, but wait for J. Walker to respond. I'm in the office right now and don't have emulators here to experiment with your rom version. In the mean time make sure you’ve made all necessary registry changes in right registry entries, and soft reset using program, something like Nice start or shut down XP or SPB Pocket Plus reset function.
I've been using TRE to edit the registry then resetting it using the stylus and the hole on the right side. Every reg change I've made shows up after a reset as changed. I don't know of another way to soft reset it. Even when I've changed it back to 0 to try using JUST the GSM Test Mode.exe, it won't work. That's proof that the registry does see the changes (I think).
(... and I'm the newbie here so "dummy" talk is A-Okey doke w/ me.)
Guess, it is a good idea to change to 2.x ROM. The only thing I know that it works fine with my original S200 with Dopod's 2.15.13.27 ROM. It much morу stable and fast, so you will got the better feeling
Hi,
on Vodafone ROM 2.15.3.26 GER it does not work. I create an Link to \Windows\GSMTestMode.exe and do it that way
I tried creating the link to GSMTest but that still didn't work. I think I'm going to have to change ROMs. I'm very reluctant because I don't know where or how to get and install one. I've seen that this site is full of talk about ROM upgrades, but I haven't seen one that tells me how to do it.
The thing is that what I'm really really after is not just the GSMTest screen so it may or may not even involve a new ROM. What I really want is to learn where the info is hiding and how to display it and make some of it usable in graphical format (something like "NiceTrack" does but with all the info not just a couple fields). It's more of a programming thing. So if anyone knows where this info is stashed and how to read it, I'd go that direction. I thought that GSMTest would be a quick & easy step toward what I'm after.
any change someone could add the gsm test program. I did found the engineering key in the registry, but no program in the windows directory and entering the code on the phonedial pad didn't work as well.
i'm running tuma 1.3 wm5 rom on a qtec 9090

My thoughts exactly... I discovered this site 2 years ago when I had the Xda2 and I'm still amazed at the information that I can dig up here. Guess some of us have the privelege of playing with our gadgets more than others...
i had to go into the props of the file and change it from hide. i also had to use resco and searched for the file name and changed it there. from there i copied the file and choose poaste shortcut to the windows\start menu\programs
[AX3L Tweak&Utilities] The simplest way to boost your device without making a ROM...
Hello to everybody!
Few moths ago I've edited a Trinity's ROM (AX3L v3.1.2.c) to speedup and boost my device...anyway I've left the "cooking" when my device jump to floor and become broken...
So, I have noticed that many people try to make their own ROM to boost their device (and adding some personalizations)....but making a ROM is difficult (not to much..) and need too time....
Some days ago, a friend ask to me to do a ROM for him (just to "optimize" his device), but I don't have so much time now for create and test it....
He tried some Customization-Tools, but some time don't understud what was done/which option choose/etc...
For this reason I've created a simply CAB installer to improove/optimize any WM5/6 Device...for newmbies or who don't want cookin' a custom ROM....simply install&play!
Here is the list of included tweaks:
. Disconnect GPRS/UMTS button and a timer display showing how long GPRS is in use for the session
. Max TCP Windows Size
. Max PIE Download = 8
. Low WMP background quality
. Live Search now use Google.com
. SMS Sent Notification is disabled
. Show Battery on top bar at Today screen
. Customer Feedback Service OFF
. SQM Service OFF
. Today Date Plugin on one line
. Menu animation OFF
. Removed (only when useless!) the scroolbars when read/writea SMS/Email/MMS/etc...
. Enable WiFi PEAP Authentication with privately signed server certificates
. All Security Restriction are OFF
. Ask where to install a program
. Keep CAB files around after installing
. Prompt before overwriting an existing installation
. Big font cache
. Enable file system cache
. Improoved battery life
. EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA icons enabled
. Enabled Purge Sim contacts when no Sim is present
. Vibra-feedback when press any dialpad's key
. Low Battery warning in now configurable
. OBEX protocol enabled
. Few settings
I have also included some programs found on this board:
. SoftKey setting applet
. MoDaCo's noData
. Sleuth255's SIP change

So what changes does cab #2 change, if any?
good stuff bud....not to be one to stifle innovation and new things...I have to ask the simple question that immediately popped into my mind...How does this differ from Schaps Advanced Config?
Great idea
How do we know if we have the tweaks already in our custom rom. I am sure all roms use the net framework, but how would we know if the booster is setup?
Would we cause any problems if we install your cabs?

Umm, the fact that this is automatic and not manual
second cab just sets 3.5 as default .net...
same thing you may set by using netcfcfg.cpl
will be trying it right away.

You can make those changes manually, so you can even restore the default setting.
Key: HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NETCompactFramework
Dword:
2.0.7045.00 -> Set to 0
3.5.7283.00 -> Set to 1
To revert the changes restore the original values.

hs anyone tried this on the Rapael/Touch Pro?

Tried it on my Polaris running udK's Syrius rom with Manilla 2D.
- All today items are gone (also Manilla 2D) except time/date which is the only item left in the list of selectable today plugins
- 3G keeps disconnecting and reconnecting every few seconds. The white "connection" dialog keeps poping up and is totally annoying.
The one fix I was after was about allowing custom certificates on PEAP auth for WiFi (we use that at work). Could you isolate that fix and give my a hint (registry etc)?
Thanks, going to restore now...
well, i installed it and it completely ****ed my system up. now on the today plugins menu in settings there is only one option and it's without text.. which is the date plugin.. other than that i have no today plugins.
(same as for pananza)
glad i didnt use it
Extracted the cab to see what's inside. Do you mind explaining what the following files are?
InTheHand.dll?
Custat.dll, Ceipui.exe - disable customer feedback I guess?
compse_sms.htm, compose_style.css, read_sms.htm, read_style.css - remove txt msg scrollbars (if not necessary)?

Try this cab guys...he had the \hklm\software\microsoft\today\items\ key with the today plugins from his own device included in the cab for some strange reason. This will definately fix the 'today items' problems...but other problems...you'll have to ask him
EDIT: If you installed his original cab...it probably screwed your today items settings which 'i dont think/know' how it can be restored...hard reset I guess?
And THANKS ALOT AX3L for an AMAZING set of tweaks...I can edit cabs so I can sift through and extract the tweaks I want...but for the average user who can't and wants to just install the cab...you need to do some work to fix up your CAB and make sure every tweak is compatible with 'most' devices
Or maybe you could just list out all your tweaks like this...cause it's not like any of these tweaks are secrets or your own...are they?
Thanks again!

Gloomy V3.1b ROM for BA
ExtROM v.3.1b in .rar format
More info:
Backup all your data (other than SD Card) before flashing.
make sure on your SD card there is a folder called Exactly ExtROM containing the .cab and other files in the .rar
- Voip working, Just run Sip Config tool and in the proxy server enter for example sip.vyke.com (and you
can open a free account with them and get 1$ just go to www.vyke.com)
DO NOT install their client for Windows Mobile, it makes the blueangel very unstable.
I found a couple of bugs on the 3.1 image, main one that was not UC capable. That is corrected now with 3.1b
Also new ExtROM 3.1b unpack in root of SDcard and read the readme.txt

Congrats on your new ROM. Please post some screen shots.
Off Topic: Either I've missed it or none has made one.. Anyone considering cooking a BA ROM with Voice Dialing?
Edit: WoW, very elegant BG. Thanks for the screen shots. Congrats again! I will place it on my list to test as soon as possible.
My pleasure.
I have experience cooking roms for linux devices but this is the first WinCE device I tackle.

Somewhere along WM5, a few cooks started putting Cyberon's Voice Commander in their roms, but because a lot of people preferred M$ Voice Command, they stopped (a quick reminder that VC cannot be cooked into a rom because it is licensed software)
@gloomyboy
What about the specs of the rom? (pagepool, Ramdisk - yes or no- , etc). Screenshots look good though... good job!
No RAM disk, about the pagepool I haven´t changed it from whatever Swampy had so he can better answer that question...

The ROM has a very beautiful interface. I have tried it and my first outstanding concern is with Windows Media Player. Unlike other ROM versions that I have used which give the user the option of pausing a media file when another application is in used, the WMP in this ROM simply stops and does not resume playback. So Gloomy, your ROM will be really great if you can address this Problem.

hello there
have just flashed this rom. good performance but i am having a problem.
i wonder if it's just me or is wifi not working well? i can get a connection- though it does tend to get disconnected quite often NOT because of poor signal.
Also, even when it's connected, apps cannot seem to recognise the connection and therefore cannot get online.
this has happened to one wifi connection at home 100% of the times i try to connect and also happens about 50% of times that I try on another wifi connection of a different router.
any suggestions?
p.s. ive never had any problems with other roms- ive tried most of them...
thanks

I had a similar issue with an older version of Swampy's rom. I am not certain of the reason why, but 20758 doesn't seem to have that issue anymore. One thing I did find out was that Weather Pannel was causing my connection to drop for no apparent reason. If you are using it, try to take it out of the Today Plugin and see if it still drops the connection.

thanks i think ill try that. i think ill try taking it off with m2d configurator.
I've been using and flashing swampy's basic roms of the past 3 months and they didnt seem to have this problem.....
anyway, ill post back

i think my problem is kinda different as my connection is really being dropped that often. but rather, while im connected, nothing can recognise the conenction.
getting online via activesync and gprs is fine, just not wifi- very strange.
ive tried taking away the weather panel with m2dconfig; deleting the country; disabling auto update and so on but they didn't help unfortunately.
so...any more ideas?
btw i installed wifi profiles, tried to use it but uninstalled it in the end because it didnt help and it's not something i need. surely....thats irrelevant to my issue...
wifi and windows media player
About wifi, make sure in wifi settings, powermode you tick off 'turn off wifi when not in use for 2 minutes'
Instead turn it on and off manually when needed.
I use AKwifitoogle very happily, will probably add it to next rom.
About windows media player...
Have you tried loading a different windows media player cab file (instead of the one provied with the ExtROM)
If that works better please report the link and I will be happy to try it and if better include in the next release
Thanks to all who have tried the rom and especially for your feedback!

Hey my friend! Sorry I haven't been very active these days. Been going crazy playing with HTC Home Icons and Flash Home screens. Amazing stuff out there!!. Actually, I'm trying to find Colored Icon Bar, similar to those that are being posted all over for Touch Diamond. Haven't found one that works on BA Yet. Perhaps, maybe our icons are individual images? Didn't think about that.
Thanks for the info about M$VC.
At present, I'm using Swampy's ROM. It's the only one not driving me crazy with the BT and WiFi Issues. Will be testing GloomyBoy's ROM soon.
Any help with the Colored Icon Bar ?

Thanks mate. I'll work on it later this afternoon. I just got a new 2400ah battery and I need to modify the Charging cradle so the phone can sit on it with the new thicker battery. Hope I can get 5 hrs use I've read otherwise, but I'll keep the hopes alive. EgzThunder is also a very resourceful man. I'm sure he has on his back pocket a working battery bar (Oh Don't think I'm being lazy)

I have searched the site for the modifications that I am after, but cannot quite find what i want for my Touch Pro.
1. Calendar tab on the TF3D menu
2. Modify existing Internet tab to display the coloured 'globe' - currently just a list of favourites.
3. Modified comm manager (keeping existing icons) so that 'switches' are htc green and not red and the highlight focus is htc green and not vodafone red.
4. I think it's the *.tsk theme to change so that highlight focus is htc green and not vodafone red on enlarged menus but grey else where retaining the black bars top and bottom with white text.
I am currently using the LantisOS TF3D with HD contacts (cfc compressed) - have tried installing other 'fixes' to give the calendar tab but it tries to over write the contacts and history tab which I already have and screws it up. I have also tried various other methods of getting what I want, see here
I do not want to change the ROM for various reasons so I am offering beer money or more to whoever wants to take this on.
OS details;
6.1 Pro 5.2.19965 (Build 19965.1.2.3)
ROM: 1.90.161.5 WWE
ROM Date: 09/03/08
Radio: 1.02.25.19
Protocol: 52.33.25.17U
TF3D: Version 3.0 (Build 29946) 1.2.34837.3_1813.6
1. Have you tried the calendar tab over here? Read through the posts, there are a few hints and tips to be found there...
2. Can't help you out here
3. Check out this thread, I guess that'll answer your question.
4. See if this also changes with the fix in question 3.

Hadn't seen that!
Ok, have tried to manually back up the manila files and replace them, can't seem to do it in total commander, even if I change all the file attributes, won't let me copy and replace.
Ok, I have got the calendar tab working, credit due to those who have worked on it However, it doesn't link to my actual calendar and you can't touch any of the dates to bring it up?
I think I'm pretty much there on the green highlight in the comm manager, just 4 *.png files to edit.
Still stuck on the the other issues. So any help much appreciated.
Am almost to the point of giving up as I can't even change the png files, oh well.
Offer still stands if anyone is interested, am happy to pay someone for the modifications that I'm after.
Thanks.

Thanks for your help chap, sorted out the colours on the comm manager here
Decided I'm not too fussed about the Calendar tab, no-one seems interested in helping out on that front as it would seem that my TF3D is all a bit 'old hat'.
Still need some help on the Internet tab though
I can put a cab file together if anyone would be kind enough to let me know which files I need for the coloured globe internet tab.
Thanks.
Sorted out most stuff, the Internet tab was the easist, didn't realise that i just needed to mod the InternetPortal-en-gb.xml file.
Now displays exactly what I want.
Still working on the calendar tab and have changed my tf3d to 12aon's full manilla rether that the CFC version as a lot of stuff like the clocks don't quite work properly with it. Also modding for the call history tab too.
Good to hear you're getting somewhere Not much is happening with the calendar tab, unfortunately... I guess you'll have to upgrade to some kind of cooked TF3D2 to get more functionality...
I would like to both find the following 2 fixes and cook them into my rom, but i cannot yet find the fixes - perhaps someone could be so kind as to help.
1. I do not want to see the 'could not connect' message - yes I have disabled both the connected and disconnected option but cannot find a way to remove that message. Really annoying when using TomTom.
2. When I tap the little keyboard at the bottom, to bring up the on screen keyboard, half the tme I accidentally get the input option menu I never use this and only want the standard keyboard - can I disable the option menu?
I have more questions, but am working through them as I think they are solvable by me with more time research.
Many thanks.
EDIT - See post 22 for likley solution to problem 1

1. I don't know.
2. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\ezsip]
"EnableSipMenu"=dword:00000000
Softreset...that's it.
Thanks, but I have tried that and it did not work. (I have gone back and checked that the reg edit was still there after the soft reset, and it was.)
TomTom breaking Manila
I still cannot answer my two initial questions, but have come across a strange issue.
I have tried to cook TomTom into my ROM to save time on the install. I have done this is the past with old style kitchens on previous phones no problem.
I have used the cab to ext converter in OsKitchen and made a package. If I inlcude the package in my ROM however, Manila will not start. Itr just syas tap here to start HTC Sense, and then flickers a bit but for love nor money I cannot make it start.
By a process of elimination I am sure it is the TomTom package causing this.
Running the cab via cab does not cause this issue.
Would anyone know what the problem might be?
Cheers
Don't use the cab converter to make the EXT. My guess is that the cab has a setup.dll, and the converter is missing something important. Here is how you want to make the package:
Install the cab; get all of the files created and put them in your package. Obviously, there will be files in \program files, but there may be some dumped into \windows, \my documents, the device root or \application data or \startup. There may be a new directory in \windows. Find those files and put them in the package as well; organize them however you want. Personally, I'd relocated the .exe and dll's and anything else I could into \windows, but I've never used tom-tom and don't know how it's organized or how it works.
Next, get all of the registry keys (after you register the program). I'm guessing that it's HKCU\software\tomtom or hklm\software\tomtom or something similar. There may also be other keys installed elsewhere (like clsid keys). Find those. If there's a setup.dll, you can open it with a text editor and probably see where they are. Some may appear in the _setup.xml. The best way to do this is to track changes with sk tracker, or do it the hard way and compare the registry before and after install with windiff (comparing full registry exports).
Once you have all the files and the reg keys, build the package. Clearly, the package builder is failing you, so I'd punt on it. Don't cook in the setup.dll, though (or anyting with a similar name, like tom-tomsetup.dll; sometimes there's more than one). Also, sometimes more complicated cabs will have zip files that install further during installation-open these up, look at them to make sure you have all the contents, then remove from the package.
Just a little add to Farmer Ted's excelent instruction.
I use wince cab manager to extract a cab, this will give you the registry plus the file locations.
This will give you something to compaire and helps you easier search what you are looking for.
The file locations you can create yourself in initflashfiles.dat or app.dat
To export a registry on device I use registry workshop.
With registry workshop you can export registry from your device straight to your pc.
If you are planning to realocate all the files to windows you need to edit the shortcuts to so they direct to windows and not program files for example.
The shortcuts you can open with a tekst editor.
Thanks guys - much appreciated.
The problem is that TomTom runs fine, its just that it screws up Manila. I will try and pull the cab to pieces as advised to make sure it is converting properly and also to see if I can spot anything that might impact Manila in the registry etc.
I dont suppose you have any thoughts on teh original two questions?
Not realy, but if the cab runs fine but your package isnt then there must be something wrong in the package isn't?

There is actually not much in the cab.
Using Wince cab Manager I can see no setup.dll
There are also no reg entries - nor can I find anything in the reg on the device that does anything other than list the install directory.
Looking at th files it installs, there are a couple of bluetooth files that can cause an error - odly it seems to not affect me when it is a cab but it must overwrite the windows ones when it is cooked in. The only thing I can think of is that it also has a phone.dll that presumably overwrites the one in the sys.
I will try cooking without this in my next build and see.
Unfortunately I am out of time as have recooked/flashed almost ten times trying to tie down this issue and then getting back to a stable base.
I have also 'broken' Arkswitch which was working on earlier builds. Don't think its related though.

It's weird that it screws up manila; I don't use manila (or T-T, obviously), so can't help you there. I'm just guessing that you're missing a registry key that you need to get the package to work. Is there a tom-tom demo (not warez)? If you post a link, I'll take a look at the cab to see if I can make an ext from it, or figure out what's going on. Some cabs are just a *****, and you're better of doing a cab install. You should see the Redfly cab, it's sick, lol. It's one that has a zip file that does a secondary install. I hate it. I also hate Redfly, but that's another story.
I read somewhere that with some sip buttons, if you press the left half, it launches the keyboard, and if you press the right half, it launches the menu. I've never experienced it myself, and don't know which builds it affects or why it happens. Is this what's going on? I'm just guessing, since you say it eff's up half the time. I have no idea how to disable the connection message, but I wouldn't mind knowing how, either. It's annoying as crap.
What's your device memory left over?
I'm just thinking, maybe you could exclude TomTom from the taskmanager exclusive list.
Sorry one more idea, you are cooking for Rhodium right?
HD2 and Rhodium have a simulair bluetooth stack.
I remember on first HD2 roms there were some problems with TomTom and bluetooth on HD2.
Just a taught.

Thanks both for your continued help.
Yes I am cooking for the Rhodium and am using the Rhodium Manila plus Cookie 1.6.1 so as to keep memory use in check. Ok I have added in the 1.8 HTC messaging but it doesn't cause a problem. Memory is about 40% free on first boot - am also using 23568 as the SYS base. I also use Ameba.
I think my Arkswitch issue is due to something else cooked in, but being honest I dont really use Arkswitch much and so am going to drop it next time I cook I think.
Farmer Ted - There is no issue with TomTom as regards Warez as far as I know - the program is fine - it is the maps that must be purchased and talking about getting round that is where the problems arise. The program itself is OK.
I might get one last chance to cook and flash tonight to check out my theory about the Phone.dll. If not I will post back and throw myself on your mercy, although as you say, it might be better to just live with the fact it will be a cab install. due to the way the files interact and the fact that the tomtom package works, I do think something is being overwritten in the cooking process and all I can see is that file.
The reason I have persisted with TomTom is that I have made an old style OEM package in the past from the cab with no problems (long lost kitchen).
With regards to the Bluetooth issues - I have sorted those now AFAIK.
RESULT! re TomTom - will post back after putting my little girl to bed.
OK - to summarise.
I ran TomTom through the cab importer within OsKitchen and it produced a package.
Although the cab had installed and run with no errors, cooking it in created 2 errors.
Firstly, there was a bluetooth message about bttray or something not being a valid application.
This is caused by two BT files in windows being overwritten by the TomTom ones. Simply renaming the two fiels to include the word OLD in the name sorted that. I will just remove them next time as I do not think they are necessary if the windows files are there.
The second issue was that Manila would not start. I believe this is due to a similar issue to the above, in that phone.dll was being overwritten. I renamed the file to PhoneOLD.dll and cooked in the package and now Manila starts.....
Still looking for answers to my first two questions though
(and yes its cos I keep hittingt he side of the button with my fat fingers that the keyboard selector comes up)
I'm not sure what's up with the keyboard, although I use Resco, so maybe you don't get then menu popup when you hit the wrong half. Have you tried killing SIPGT_app.exe? Maybe it won't pop up with that killed. If that's the case, then remove the bootlauncher key in your ezinput package. Killing it may not help, though.
I could not find that exe file to kill. The keyboard behavious is I believe as it is intended to work - just not how I want it. But are you saying Resco Keyboard fixes this?
However my final reflash last night seems to have gone a bit nuts. I am now getting all sorts of problems with apps not being able to run because they are unsigned etc or bits missing.
We are talking about stuff cooked in that has previously worked flawlessly.
Had some issues with my PC last night as well. I think I need to go back a step when I get home tonight and maybe rebuild the kitchen.
Time and kitchens have moved on a little, but as things are going well, I am back to my original 2 questions that continue to perplex me:
1. Is there a way of stopping the 'cannot connect' bubble from coming up, or even to make it automatically close after say a few seconds.
2. Is there a way of stopping the keyboard selector menu from popping up when the side of the keyboard icon is hit. I just want the qwerty option and do not want the menu to come up ever.
I have been able to make no headway at all with (1), - found mention of one cab somewhere but the link had expired - and have tried various things for (2) but with no success yet.
Anyone?
Cheers
PS- to follow up my previous posts yes the fixes I mentioned for Tom Tom work fine - it was the 3 files causing the issues.
In my old Kaiser roms i used the below reg key to disable connect notification, sorry i really dont remember if it disable also"cannot connect".
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{8ddf46e7-56ed-4750-9e58-afc6ce486d03}]
"Options"=dword:00000000
Disable Sip Menù is the same reg key that another guy posted here:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\ezsip]
"EnableSipMenu"=dword:00000000
I tried it on my HD2 before posting here and setting it to 0 it leave the menù where you can select keypad, compact qwerty, full qwerty and language,it is still present a little menù with the option and my guess is that this isnt removable.

Cheers for that - I am concluding that the SIP issue I wil live with, and I already have that reg key set to zero for the connections issue, to no avail. I am experimenting with some other keys, but its really shooting in that dark, and as I cannot readily reporduce the notification, it will be a few days before I can even see any change.
Oh well. I will update if I get anywhere.
Ooooohhh, following some more digging, I MAY have an answer re the cannot connect bubble. I saw someone elses solution and that has actually led me to what could be far simpler.
I will try and cab it up later tonight for other to try. It is just a reg entry
EDIT - maybe I spoke too soon.
I am testing this by alternating between 3G and 2G on the comm manager - normally this will pull up the message. (Could someone confirm this as a valid test method).
I thought I had it solved, then the message appeared, but have done it another ten times with no hint of the message.
Some more testing to do......
