okay so today i updated my profile/prl and i noticed an update was installed on the phone from htc. it wasn't there before, i also noticed it blocks my cache mate app for root users from running. i tried to uninstall the update but it will not let me? i had to nandroid back and now the update is gone and all is well. what the hell is sprint up to here?
im also going to go on record to say im tired of the radio signal issues on this phone when my wife's blackberry is fine and were both on the same network.
i reverted back to an older prl and now the htc update is back on my hero? what the hell does this update do? i didn't choose to install any update, it seems it auto installs when your phone updates it's profile.
I've updated my prl and no auto update was installed.
I checked in terminal (su)
And by using WiFi teather
I think it happen when i updated my profile. Not sure what the update does though?
Yep it blocks rooted apps from working, i can confirm when trying to use cache mate. also superuser app isn't working either. What the hell is sprint doing here? If they are pulling this crap ill jump back to winmo in a heartbeat. Im 100% serious here to guys, this is no BS. i think when you update your profile under settings they are secretly installing this update.
To see if you have it installed install an app called uninstaller from the market and you will see it under the apps installed. The update is from 5/20. You cannot uninstall it either unless you nandroid.
Can somebody else please confirm this so i don't feel like im crazy here? A dev perhaps? I just nandroided and didn't update my profile and the update from htc is gone and my apps work again.
Okay, just ran the profile update.
Still able to run Su privileges.

Have you tried typing SU in a terminal emulator?
Is USB debugging enabled?

I was under the impression that it was enabled on the roms by default.

USB debug is on, i don't have terminal emulator. Okay so ive been experimenting. Not only does this update install when you update your profile but somehow it installs when i download something off the market? I know this because as soon as i did an update today on the market this damn patch popped up. Does anybody know what the patch does and can anybody confirm it is on their heros? It says it's update 1 for 2.1 dated 5/20 and cannot be uninstalled at all?
ill get a screen shot of it, give me a sec.

2.1-update1 is the leaked update we had, before 2.1's official release.
Seriously, try a terminal emulator.
Or better yet, give us a logcat of what happens when somethign requests root.

You know what i mean, his rom is based on the official. I even have the same build numbers as in his thread. Okay i tried the terminal thing and it worked when i requested SU access. But for some reason cache mate stopped working?

Then root isn't broken, cachemate is.
What i do not understand is why that 2.1 update 1 never showed in my apps list until i either downloaded something off the market or i updated my profile. And my cachemate app stopped working and that requires root access.

hopefully really soon
No Doubt!!! There are some really big fixes in that list. I'm glad Verizon is taking the time fix the issues before pushing out the OTA

Shouldn't we be thanking HTC.

there are a couple devs working on a rom for this new leak, which is actually LEAK VS. 4.
Two devs have a basic rom they are working on, and another dev is about to start an update to his rom. so just hang tight, a rooted version of this will be available shortly, like a day or 2.
Oh FINALLY some action up in this place. This is cool.
Hey eclipse, what was v3? I'm with the OP; I thought this was.
there was the 2.1 developer ROM,
then the 2.1 Leak w/o root
then the 2.1 pre-OTA
then this one.

This v3 leak is for the leaked people, but it does not help us in any way get root.
Digging the update, but...
My market is still devoid of several apps.. I'm non-rooted (early leak adopter), so it doesn't seem jcase's fix will work for me.. just wanted to share in case A) someone else was trying to figure out whether v3 fixed this problem, and/or B) I'm an idiot and someone else knows what I need to do to see the full market..

It's not just you and you are not an idiot. The short answer is that the problem lies with google, VZW, and HTC. HTC has to give google a final build number before google can authorize full access to the market.
In short we won't get full access until we a) get root or b) VZW releases an official OTA.
has any of you leakers installed this?

Yeah, it should be possible.
Htc release ota updates as delta upgrades, containing only differences between files. Custom ROMs don't use the identical same files, so we need to patch the old ones with these new files.
And our custom recovery images don't accept htc ota keys, since you could get locked out of rooting if this happened.
I can try and look later on at this...
Ok,so it seems problems with the "patch files" too,not possible
via recovery menu,right?
Hope you can do it!
Hmm it seems that this update only add's a gsensor config, I dont know if they fixed the problem with streams and T-Mobile Netherlands (I guess not).
Seems to be a lot of changes (a lot of files to patch) just to add G-sensor config. Probably a bugfix release too...

Hmm well because I have a different bootloader and a stock T-Mobile rom it just don't show up. It's gonna take a while before I get my hands on this one
so is there a full list of what this update has done?
i have a custom rom and managed to install this with no problems.
i have seen a similar update on the desire and it seems to fix the message notifications (messages will display 1, even though all messages are read.)
Hi All,
Loking at the files contained within this update, can anyone confirm if this will have an effect on the Bluetooth capabilities of the phone. There are a few threads out there with people like myself who had their bluetooth functionality reduced with their car kits. The pairing would work, but the connection failed. The connection worked fine in 1.5, and is working again in custom 2.2 roms (I'm running Fusion),
Cheers

hmm, update.zip contains boot.img and recovery.img, as well as many updates for framework, many apps, system etc...
so it can contain any new protection method to disable root possibility and/or changing roms to custom.
anybody with genuine 2.1 installed this? anything happened?
I just checked the boot.img from the original update to Android 2.1 and from this one, and they're exactly the same, bit by bit, so there isn't any changes in the kernel.
appied update and then rooted all worked fine
i have installed this update after i got my repaired hero back from htc yesterday. i did root my phone after this update and it seems to be fine.
the only thing i cant do is downgrade to 1.5 using a goldcard. it say something about im using the incorrect id.
But i dont know if that was the update that did that or htc did it when they had my phone

Sounds normal. What rooting method did you use? (Shamelessly trying to find out if my port of the Droid eris one still works after this update)
If you root and flash custom recovery, you can flash another hboot, thus allowing a 1.5 RUU to work with gold card.
But that is a risky process, and there's no need in my opinion to use it.

You are working on an update.zip,so we can flash with

It's just another basic HTC security update just like the last one...But I did hear HTC patched misc.img partition on the G2 so be carefull about what security patches you update to because it could break root if you have s-on and stock HTC recovery.

Your phone has been rooted, so you cannot update it the normal way. Download the update from Sammobile when it's available, and use Mobile ODIN Pro to install it. Also check the options off to keep root. You could also use PC ODIN, but will lose Root.
Another option is wait till someone modifies the update so you will not loose root, and then flash it with the PC version.

Mobile Odin Pro will not update your bootloader to match the new ROM software and Radio/Modem update. It's not advised to update using MOP. Download the full NJ7 stock ROM http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/37101/N910TUVU1ANJ7_N910TTMB1ANJ7_TMB.zip/ and use Odin on the PC to flash it.
I will just unroot it when I get home and then do the update and root it back, hopefully it's a fix to the Internet issues and what other issues that others are having

I'm not an expert but I was able to apply the update as follows:
in superSU, unroot your phone.
then i just checked if I was fully unrooted, via trying to use a root app or download rootchecker via google play.
then when I knew i was unrooted, I downloaded KEIS3 and installed the update via KEIS.
afterwards, KEIS froze but my phone worked and it was updated to the latest firmware.
then i reapplied root.
hope this helps.

That is good news, but I need to know if they lock down the bootloader or something like that. They did this with the S4. So I am not going to update till I hear a success story, or a tragedy.

Is this issue before or after the update?? I have not updated my device yet (it is available though), but still checking to see what improvements/issues come with the update... I have not had any MMS issues with my device thus far tho, Pre-Update - of any kind (no root yet either)

So that didn't work.. went into a boot loop when I tried removing root. Re-rooting was the only way to get the boot loop to stop.
What sucks, was I literally just rooted the phone at 2am.. I wish I had waited.
