My SPL is messed! Please help! - HD2 General

I wanted to upgrade from Artemis rom v15 to v22 so I did. Suddenly I have issues with freezing and hard resets. I find out that I need HSPL 1.66.
So I tried installing HSPL2 and it gives me an error, something about invalid id.
I try HSPL and it did something because now I have SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE showing up in bootloader.
But I'm told it's not what I need and 1.66 is what I need. I can't seem to uninstall HSPL firstly and I also don't know any other way to get to 1.66!
I've even tried SSPL and it doesn't work

dont worry about it. its fine as it now is with 2.08.hspl
hspl2 wont work on telstra. Use hspl3 (which i assume you did to get 2.08.hspl) and you can now stop worrying. All roms will work fine on 2.08.hspl, the recommendation to match the spl to the rom doesn't really matter.

thanks for the reply and the info. I ended up getting the stock Telstra rom back on via straight SD flash and decided to try SSPL and it flashed ok so far.
After I flashed 2.08 Artemis said "I think you have problem Sir
My suggestion is, first to solve HSPL problem (post to HSPL thread)
or use SSPL (remove HSPL first)...". So I guess that's what I did.
Right now I seem to have 1.42.6666 showing up. Do you know how I can get to 1.66?

If your spl in bootloader ends...
.0000 = stock
.hspl = hspl installed
.6666 = rom was flashed using sspl. This is not permanent, single flash only, you need to use SSPL each time you flash
You can't flash radios with SSPL, so you may have trouble with cooked roms that require a particular radio. (Roms with the 576 RAM unlocked, for example, require you change your radio, which is almost certainly why artemis rom failed)
you cant get to 1.66.hspl directly with a telstra,
(well, you can, using the ''HSPL2 on telstra'' workaround,, , its posted in the rom dev section)
however I can promise you you will be just as well using hspl3, and installing 2.08.hspl

Error in downgrade from 1.66 to 1.48

Dear All,
Excuse me I'm a bit newbie
I decided to add the miri custom ROM. I'm on official 1.66 rom WWE with radio 2.06. I read in this forum that I have to downgrade to 1.48 in order ro be able to SPL. I downloaded the 1.48 from the thread of Leo official roms in this forum. The process stopped at 1% telling me "Invalid vendor". then I restarted my device but the GSM network is not working.
Please help how could I go back to 1.48 to SPL my device.
Thanks
Maybe you are confused a little: The ROM version is 1.66, but please check the SPL version, and you will know if you need to downgrade.
To check your SPL version:
Turn off your device, push and hold the volume down button and briefly the power on button, this will launch your HD2 into boot loader mode.
downgrade from SPL 1.66 to 1.48
Hi All
I have loaded a cooked rom to my HD more than a year ago.
Could somone please point me in the right direction plz
My bootloader tell me I have I have SPL-1.66.000 XE
How do I downgrade??
Thanks for your time
Your HTC is not HSPL. Use HSPL2 to downgrade your SPL. Chose version which is ending with HSPL 1.42.HSPL. It was something like this.
using the newest hspl3, you don't have to downgrade ROMs. It will scan your device and figure out which hspl you need.

not quite,,, hspl3 will only install 2.08.hspl
hspl2 is the one that contains all the various versions and scans your phone before offering you a match.
either will work for flashing roms, personally i recommend hspl2 for normal hd2, hspl3 for tmous or Telstra hd2.

ok, but isn't hspl 2.08.hspl compatible for all flashing?
from cotulla:
*Now included only 2.08.0000 and 2.08.HSPL.
Seems all ROMs based on 1.42, 1.66, 1.XX can work with 2.08 SPL without problems.*
*Now one HSPL for different LEO types: UsualLEO, TelstraLEO and 1024LEO*
*Because there no SPLs except 2.08, so no risk to brick 1024LEO with wrong version.
*Telstra LEO supported. Actually Model ID checked by first 4 letters.

yes, you can use any version of x.xx.hspl with any rom. THe main difference between whether to use 2 or 3 is that if you want to return to stock, hspl3 will only allow you to go to 2.08.0000, which isnt stock for most users, meaning they have to then switch to using HSPL2 to downgrade, throwing an extra layer of confusion into teh mix.
hspl3 was really released for telstra users (model ID fails with hspl2 for telstra) and tmous users with 2.10.0000 stock spl.
There is no difference at all between using hspl2 to install 2.08.hspl and using hspl3 to install 2.08.hspl. They are identical.
The part about scanning for which spl you already have, that doesnt happen in hspl3, and indeed by default if you dont change teh dropdown, it installs 2.08.0000 stock, which has confused looaaads of people, whereas with hspl2, if you currently have 1.66.0000 it offers you 1.66.hspl by default, or if you have 1.42.0000 it offers you 1.42.hspl by default.

There seems to be two ways to get this done. First is that you can download the standard 2.10 rom, rename the nbh file to leoimg.nbh. Copy it to the root of your sd card (maybe best to use a different one than the one that came with your phone) and run it from boot loader. This will restore the image, radio and spl from that rom version.
The second one is to wait until HSPL1024 is upgraded to allow it to be used with the 2.13 rom, and then you can flash cooked rom's onto your phone.
I haven't actually done either of these, this is just my understanding of how it should work. I've flashed the 2.13 rom, and now can't flash a cooked rom to the phone, so I'm trying to decide which path I want to take.
Does anyone have any info regarding mods to HSPL1024 for use with the 2.13 rom?

no need to wait, just flash 2.10 rom using sd card which will downgrade spl to 2.08 so hspl will work again.

So from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655653 that one that says 2.10.1 *no stock Spl !!! is the stock 2.10.531.1 that came with the phone when i bought it? or not and what means no stock spl
I'm pretty sure you want the one that does have the stock spl. That should restore your phone to exactly what you had when you bought it new. I'm not sure, but I think the one that is * no stock SPL would overwrite the rom without modifying the spl (I'm not 100% sure).
You'd have to load this from the sd card.

they're all in that thread, not just 2.13, did you look in the thread or just read the title?
pick the one that says 2.10.0 (dont worry about the extra .1 just yet, we can change that later if you want, we want the 2.10.0 cos it has the spl.)
If you currently do not have hspl on your phone, and your spl is 2.08.0000 (bootloader, tell us what it says next to spl)
then you can simply run the 2.10.0 .exe file and it will reset your rom and radio to 2.10.0 stock.
If you DO have hspl installed (i.e bootloader says 2.08.HSPL) then you can go straight for the 2.10.1 rom, flash over USB, which will flash 2.10.1 rom and radio, and when it has finished, run hspl1024, and in the list choose 2.08.0000, which will reset your spl to stock 2.08.0000
However, if you flashed 2.13 from sd card, your spl is now 2.1, so hspl1024 no longer works.
In this case, get the 2.10.0 rom, right click the .exe and choose extract here, get the file ruu_signed.nbh, copy to your sd card, rename to leoimg.nbh, flash the phone, this has reset your rom and radio, and changed your spl back to 2.08.0000, meaning you can now reflash hspl1024 and then load the 2.10.1 rom.
all sounds more complicated than it is, its all dependant on what spl you currently have. Its the spl that is critical for warranty, not so much the rom.
What makes it slightly more complicated, (and hence jumping from rom 2.13 to 2.10.0 to 2.10.1 above) is that some of those tmous stock roms come as .exe files, and some as a zip with customruu.exe and ruu_signed.nbh.
If it comes as customruu.exe and ruu_signed.nbh, then even though it is stock, it still needs hspl to flash.

ah well since you are changing from a cooked one, it is probably worth doing, just for good measure, but don't get too hung up on it, it's not that critical,, unless the rom runs badly afterthe flash.
some people emit every flash, some barely do it ever.
phew...
Okay... I've successfully gone and reverted back to 2.10.531. I initially got an error when flashing from the sd card, but it restarted itself and flashed fine. I then installed hspl on the phone and a custom rom.
I then decided I really wasn't happy with the custom rom, so I reflashed 2.10, reinstalled hspl, and then flashed the 2.09 radio over the 2.10 stock rom. Lol, I guess I'm not really very nervous about flashing anymore
One question... what is the purpose of the stock spl revisions? Is there some new functionality that goes along with an upgrade from spl 2.08 to spl 2.10, or is htc/tmobile just doing that to break hspl? It seems like once you've installed hspl, then that's the version you keep unless you flash from the sd card. At some point, is it likely that we'll need to upgrade the spl?

hspl is exactly the same as spl, just bypasses the security checks. you don't need to revert, most people just hspl and leave it set.(it protects your phone from bad flashes, it won't allow itself to be removed except by sd card)
the 0000 ones are included in the hspl program to make it easy to revert for warranty.
just reread your post.
yes higher spls have other functions or fixes or tweaks, but nothing you would ever notice.
you can happily run tmous roms on 1.42 spl with no issues.
(well, you can't cos you couldn't get 1.42 on your phone, being a tmous, but i can, and have)

Hello, i am new to the HD2 and i want to unlock it to install new roms. I checked my spl and i am running 2.10 and not 2.08 so the exe file that is given wont work. It says it is corrupt and it wont install. Is there a way tdowngrade the spl to 2.08 from 2.10?
Install the factory 2.10.1 ROM via your SD so that your SPL will be changed to 2.08. Then you should be able to use HSPL for 1024.

Problem getting to spl 2.08 - please help
HI,
I've done my share of reading on this (my favorite) and other forums. Most recommend using HSPL3 for going back to SPL 2.08. I've tried that may times - unsuccessfully though...
Can anyone suggest what am I doing wrong?
==========
--- I currently have SPL 2.10.0000 8G XE
---I formatted the memory card to MS-DOS(FAT) (using disk utility)
---I am using ActiveSync....
---when I previously tried using HSPL3 I get to the screen where it should load to 100%, but never get to where it says "successfully hacked" or whatever it says when done; In my case it just loads up and then goes down... It can do that for hours if you let it.
Any help is appreciated as I am dying to see android running on this babe. Tx

HSPL3 AND ROMS 3.14.831.3 Radio 15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14

i read on some topics that hspl doesn't go well with stock roms 3.14 for example there is a 50mb program memory limit (is it ram or storage limit?), i wanted to get more advice on the matter because i read many opposite info about hspl on the forum, is it safe to use hspl3 to flash 3.14 stock roms? in particular this rom: RUU_Leo_S_HKCSL_WWE_3.14.831.3_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship this was released in december
What a coincidence, I was about to ask the same question, although I'm only using HSPL2.
So, is it ok to install a 3.14 stock ROM with HSPL2/3 still installed? Or do we have to flash back the original SPL first?
Remove HSPL, then if allowed you can install 3.14 ROM. If you are not allowed this ROM, then you need to use the GoldCard method, then install the 3.14 ROM.
Installing 3.14 ROM when HSPL is installed will make you phone prone to be unstable and have have a major reduction in RAM - So don't do it.
Ok thanks for the info fred_up. One other question, after I put the original SPL back, can I flash stock 3.14 over the USB cable? I did that with 1.43 -> 1.66, so I', assuming I can still do that?
ram loss is possible with hspl3 flashing rom 3.14! i had more free ram on my x1
can anyone confirm if the only solutions are the goldcard or flashing the rom for which your device is made??

If you downloaded the 3.14 ROM from HTC with your phone's serial number, then HTC are saying that you are entitled to upgrade to that ROM.

At this moment, if you are not entitled to flash the 3.14 ROM, then the only option is to GoldCard before flashing the 3.14 ROM - remembering to remove HSPL first. Your other options are to run the latest ROM from your Operator or run a custom ROM that isn't based upon the 3.14 ROM.
Is it OK to install a stock 3.14 ROM optop of HSPL via SDCard? Won't this erase HSPL?
can you confirm that using a goldcard automatically erases hspl? i think yes

yes it will erase hspl but becareful because if the rom is not the correct one for your device it will still fail to install BUT hspl will have allowed the spl to update to 3.03.0000 andyou will get exclamation mark screen and phone won't boot. in this case you will only get it working again by flashing an older correct stock rom.

yes, because the spl is updated to 3.03.0000 and
it can only do that by overwriting the spl, and hence hspl is gone.
use sspl
sspl is only any use if you already have a working 3.14 rom on your phone with spl 3.03.0000.
you cant run 3.14 on any other spl, not just hspl, so whilst SSPL would flash the 3.14 rom (for example from a current 1.66 rom) it would still have the memory issue because the spl would return to 1.66.0000 after the first restart, and the memory glitch would be there.

[Q] Remove HSPL 3

Hello everyone
I know this is a question that has been asked 100 times before, but a post from mskip got me worried.
Here's my problem:
- I want to install a Gingerbread ROM on my HD2. I have understood everything about how to do that, thanks to XDA.
- My HD2 is currently running a Winmo 6.5 3.14 stock ROM from HTC's website.
- To install it, I had to install SPL3 on my phone. So on bootloader, my phone now shows SPL-3.03.HSPL (Cotulla HSPL btw, thanks Cotulla )
- And to install the Android ROM, I know I have to downgrade to SPL-anything between 1 and 2.
- I know you can do that by installing a stock ROM, but I read somewhere in a post by mskip that you CANNOT suppress HSPL3 by downgrading the ROM.
Anyway, in short, my question is:
Can I suppress HSPL3 and eventually manage to start the install of an Android ROM?
I'm not a complete noob, but not an expert either and I don't want to brick my phone or anything.
Thank you very much in advance
I don't understand what you mean by "suppress" it but basically all you need to do is to get 2.08.HSPL on your phone. How you do that is boot to 3.03 (volume down and power) and open HSPL3 on your PC. Then after it finds your phone etc. on the phone just choose 2.08.HSPL from the menu and flash that. Then after that installs you should be able to flash your radio and MAGLDR etc.

Skellyyy is completely right you need to run the HSPL again on your HD2 and select HSPL version 2.08 HSPL because MAGLDR only supports 2.08 HSPL right now. You will hsve to flash MAGLDR in order to flash a Andriod ROM.
Thank you guys for the quick answers.
But the point is that the ROM I currently have (3.14) only runs with SPL3.
So if I downgrade to HSPL2.08, isn't there a risk that my phone is not going to be able to do anything after that, let alone installing Android?
See, that is a quote from the post I'm using to install Android. It says:
"A: Install HSPL3
Prerequisites
* Windows Mobile Device Center installed on Windows Vista / Windows 7 or
* ActiveSync installed on Windows XP
* You must have any SPL version from this list on your device:
o SPL 1.42.0000
o SPL 1.62.0000
o SPL 1.66.0000
o SPL 2.07.0000
o SPL 2.08.0000
o SPL 2.10.0000
(To check your SPL version, hold the Volume Down button and do a reset)
You should have this SPL version unless you are using the latest 3.14 ROM with SPL 3.03.0000. No worry, just downgrade your Windows Mobile ROM from v3.14 to v1.66 will do. Download HTC HD2 v1.66 ROM. Then downgrade your phone from SPL 3.03.0000 to SPL 1.42.000."
So it says here, downgrade to v1.66 ROM, and then downgrade from SPL3 to SPL1.42. That is not very clear to me. Isn't that supposed to be the same thing?
If downgrading to ROM 1.66 downgrades SPL to 1.42, then why should I AFTERWARDS downgrade from SPL3 to SPL1.42? Isn't that going to be already done?
And more importantly, you guys say I should simply run HSPL and choose an appropriate version, which is yet another method than what is explained above...
Oh boy I'm confused...

No need to worry my friend I am currently running a 3.14 ROM as you can see by my sig. I also have HSPL 2.08 on my HD2 just incase I decide I want to run Andriod or flash a custom ROM. I can tell you my HD2 is working just fine.
No those prerequsites are just the showing you the SPL version that you habe to have to flash HSPL 3. You only have to have ond of those versions but it has to be a version included in the list or you can not flash HSPL 3. If you do not have one of these versiond then the flashing to 1.66 then to HSPL 3 is just MSkip telling you how to get a SPL version needed to flash HSPL 3. But this is not needed now as there is a HSPL 4 version now that allows you to flash 2.08 HSPL when you have SPL 3.08.0000 or SPL 3.10.0000 with out having to downgrade your ROM.
So that basically means I should get HSPL4, run it and choose HSPL2.08 for example, and then I will be able to follow all steps to install and Android ROM?
Correct?

You have a tmous,,, you can't run 3.14 roms on a reg hd2 with any spl except 3.03.0000 or 3.03.Hspl.you get very unstable phone that thinks it has the 576meg ram unlocked but only really has 200 or so,with only 50 or so free for user apps. Unuseable.
OP correct, into bootloader, Hspl 4, 2.08.Hspl then back into bootloader and flash magldr from there.

Samsamuel I do understand what you are telling me here and I was a little concerned about this when I first flashed the HSPL 2.08 to my HD2. But to be honest I have noticed no real change in my HD2's performance compared to before. Also to be fair though I only have 5 nonpreinstalled apps on my HD2 as I found early on with my HD2 that a lot of apps can effect the performance of the HD2. I also never have more than two apps running at the same time as a rule too.
At the OP yes download and run HSPL 4 and choice 2.08 HSPL and you will be good.

because you have a tmous,,,,,, tmous 3.14 rom comes with spl 2.10.0000 and works with 2.08.xxxx, (or it may come with spl 3.03.0000, im not sure, but it doesnt require it, and your phone is proof of that) however the regular 3.14 roms come with and will not work without 3.03.xxxx.
Oh I get what you are saying now the TMOUS can do this but the EU can not. I was not aware of this. Sorry it took a minute for me to understand, I have been sick for like two weeks so my head is a kittle foggy because of it lol.
heh, it doesnt get mentioned often in relation to tmous.
tmous users never get the unstable system/bad ram error when they flash 3.14, regardless of the spl, so they never need to notice what the spl is before / after, so dont notice it didnt get updated.
Im sick too, its the time of year for it. Not that anyone would notice teh difference, i am still sat hunched over the keyboard, swearing under my breath occasionally at anyone who gets close,,,,,
Sam, it wouldn't really matter though would it? As he plans on flashing MAGLDR straight away so there wouldn't even be WinMo on the phone to make it unstable?

Oh no course not, all that stuff is fine.
Thank you very much guys, this is all very clear for me now.
I now know that HSPL4 -> 2.08 -> then droid flash is doable for me
Good night/day to you all.
