Most of the times i use the hd2 as an mp3 player when im travelling via the subway station. I keep my phone in my bag and use the headset that came with the device to listen to the music. If i want to skip a song or repeat it, i just use the little hardware keys on the headset. The problem is that if i want to lower the volume, i have to get the phone out of the bag and press the hardware keys on the device to do so.
Back to the headset now, I noticed that if you press and hold the "Pause/Play" button, nothing happens. So i was wondering... Is it possible to make the volume go up and down by pressing the "Pause/Play" button on the headset, with the combination of "Next"(to get the volume up) and "Previous" (to get the volume down)?
(holding "Pause/Play"+"Next" = volume up)
(holding "Pause/Play"+"previous" = volume down)

get a bluetooth and everything done, same problem on my iPhone but no more.
Constructive answer Already got a bluetooth but always forget to charge it. Soundquality is slightly worse, reaction time when skipping songs sucks etc.
I have a program for that. Headset Button.
Headset Button recognizes five different types of presses: single, double, triple, long (press & hold) and double long (the second press is long)

Combinations are not supported. Default assignments are:
Single press "Next" = next track
Long press "Next" = fast forward
Double long press "Next" = volume up
Single press "Prev" = previous track
Long press "Prev" = rewind
Double long press "Prev" = volume down

-two button press - previous mp3
-three button press - next mp3

I doubt this button is able to be remapped and I will tell you why. I have a Sprint PPC6600 aka Blue Angel on this site. It came with a stereo headset with mic and push button. A close look at the 2.5 mm plug shows 4 conductors. Checking with a multimeter I found 1 = Left Ear, 2 = Right Ear, 3 = Mic and 4 = Common. So where does the button connect? As far as I can tell it is directly across the Mic, making it a part of the analog circuit and not a remappable input to PC.

i would like to be able to hold down the power buttons for a few secs and it display a menu to select profile....ie vibrate, outdoor, silent, off
i would also like to disable the ring bit on the volume control.....is this possible
Pressing the volume key on the side of the phone brings up a quick menu for volume levels (system&ringer) and vibrate, and silent. If you select silent then press the 'up' volume twice it goes back to your original volume level.

i know...its annoying!
thanks for the response.
anyone else got a solution
Is there any way to disable the Volume rocker key? It stays active even when the phone is locked so when in my pocket, it often reduces the volume or even puts it off compleatly. Is there a Reg hack to disable it compleatly as the volume can be set via the settings menue.
Regards, Woolly.
This does not happen on my phone.
Anyone else have this problem?
When the phone is put to "sleep" (pressing the on/off button) ,locked or not, all buttons are disabled. The phone will only wake up (all buttons and soft keys enabled) when there is an incoming call or message or when you press the on/off button again. If it's in your pocket during the wake up, that's where the volume button could be pressed by whatever.
That's how it works on mine.
^^+1
The only time the volume buttons are working while phone is sleeping is when I'm listening to music via headset... Otherwise, it works the same as azahidi's...
You can use AE Button Plus ( http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php ), I assigned another functions to volume buttons with it and lot of other functions to rest of my buttons. It is $7.99.
You can also use S2U2 ( http://www.ac-s2.com/ ) for locking the phone. It is free.
I've noticed that the volume buttons don't control the volume right when turning off the single volume control settings in the sound tab. I like this, so the RING volume isn't necesarilly the same as the SYSTEM volume. Switching to the two separate volume levels gives unwanted behaviour in sound level as well as functionality of the volume control buttons, using the Audio tab or during a call. To be more precise:
- when listening to an mp3 on the audio tab, and the screen is off, I can press the vol up/down button, but nothing really happens unless I keep pressing down untill I hit 'silent' mode - and voila presto, the music is gone. Hit vol up once, and it is back at the sound level is was, regardless of how many times I press vol up. If I turn the screen back on, vol up/down work as they should (although I have better control on the screen itself);
- when answering or making a call, volume is at max loudness, regardless of the settings I chose beforehand. Pressing vol down shows it at min loudness on the screen, and therefor doesn't do anything - untill I touch the screen to adjust the volume, and then it suddenly is possible to use a lower setting. Weird and annoying too.
So I'm back to the single volume control untill HTC fixes this.
Just received my N10 - 16GB and was trying to figure out how to take a screenshot. From everything I read it's, Hold Power Button + Vol Down. That didn't work. It was just as if I held down the Power Button by itself and it gave me the popup window for Power Off / Airplane Mode.
I then realized that the Vol Down is actually in the top position, closest to the Sleep/Power and Vol up is in the bottom. Is this normal? I don't recall the Nexus 7 having the volume buttons reversed.
Also, trying to take a screen shot still doesn't work for me. Anyone having these issues?
Thanks,
The tablet is designed for landscape use.....so at the top left of the tablet is Power, Volume - and then Volume +
Press and HOLD both Power and Volume - at the same time, it takes a few seconds (about 2.5 seconds based on doing it right now and counting LOL).
Do not press one then the other. Put your fingers over both then press at the same time.

Much appreciated the quick answer. From my other Android devices, it was either hold power/sleep first then either Vol down or Home button. I tried your suggestion and it works now. Even gives an audible tone.
Anybody else find this really awkward?
It'd be much better if I could do a screenshot by holding the power button down and tapping the home button. Much like the One X etc.
