G1 root

Hey guys, I'm kind of new here, and I'm wondering if I root my G1, will I be able to access the paid apps in the android store? I read that it was blocked from the dev phones and I'm wondering if that is the same for root. I have searched the forums but I can't seem to find the answer to me question. Thanks in advance for any help.

and not being able to see paid apps only exist in some rom, but ppl dont use those roms anymore.
the newer roms work just fine
for hero i recommend cyanogen for cupcake builds
for hero roms i suggest JACs 1.6r2a in my opinion. i havent taken the step to upgrade to JACs 1.7 or the other hero rom thats getting a lot of buzz. i will however whenever i decide to.
i runing busy now so if you have any questions just reply.
that problem has not existed in months

OTA updates?

Is there OTA updates for the TMOUS HD2 or is there another way to do this? sorry im new to winmo so Im a little lost, could use some help. Any info would help thanks Ive searched in this thread but cant find anything
there are no updates from microsoft.updates for widows mobile were never implemented.
the only way to get updates is if tmo release a new rom.
.....or if you flash a custom ROM here.
heh, yea or that. by far the best option.
custom maybe???
thanks, Ill keep checking on this, Ive been thinkin about putting a custom rom but Im kinda eery about it, I dont want to brick my phone. Im new to the whole winmo thing, I comming from android and rooted so many phones, but still intimidated by winmo (completely different)

I was like you about a month ago. Give it some time, and read carefully. It's not nearly as complicated as it seems.
HSPL via the HD2 is less complicated than rooting Android.

Did root yesterday. Now im seeking the best custom ROM. Share your experience?..

Hi!
Thanks for this forum folks.
Ive rooted yesterday, when i got my phone. Now im thinking about trying a new rom.
Is it hard to install? Does pictures and apps disappear from my sd card?
Please give me some hints for this. Where i need to read, and how i do this.
I also read about ROM manager.

Does that mean you dont have to fix in the recovery mode etc....
Thanks
I'm also interested in this subject. I haven't rooted my phone yet and I'm wondering which rom (custom and official) is the best ??
I'm in the same boat, just got my legend a few days ago and will be rooting it soon. I have very little space on my device so I want something with sense but not all the extra garbage that comes bundled with it.
I'm loving the phone but since its my first android I need a little guidance
P. S. I got swift key beta and its effing amazing!

Same here. Rooter 2 days ago. I read a lot about custom roms and procedure to load but am a bit confused. Small summary would be hight apreciated.

What to do first

Well hi guys probably the first time me posting in the forums of XDA Developers
well i might be getting a htc magic soon and i seen alot of methods and roms and recovery root things and im really getting confused can anyone say what the best ROM is , easiest way to root and how to get recovery?
I had a Galaxy spica before but it got robbed and now im getting a new phone ...
i had it rooted using odin and it came with recovery and i use to flash zips so im hoping its the same thing
also does the motoblur rom have wi-fi now and on 2.x?
also im on rogers and getting it from them so im wondering how i would know if its 32a or 32b?

[Q] What to do next?

I have a desire hd and have rooted and flashed a custom rom (LEEDROID) and i am new to all of this. All i know is that rooting my hd has made it quicker and now i have overclocked it the phone runs awesome. Now i am curious as to what else i can do with it now. Any tips, hacks or apps would be appreciated or anything to customize my hd anymore. I am also new to this site and must appologize if this topic has come up before. thanx guys and girls
Hey man, can you point me how to root and flash new custom rom ? i got my htc dhd today Thanks and sry for offtopic .
Whatever you want. I suggest trying different roms, mess around with boot animation and try overclocking/underclocking.
ALWAYS back up first with clockwork recovery. (When you do this your phone can be restored to exactly how it was before you tried.).
Find what's right for you. The best thing I like aboot rooting is raising two fingers at the supplier and manufacture for putting unnecessary branding on it, then customising it and proving it's mine and I can do what I like.

no probs mate. I am new to this all myself and have only had my desire 2 weeks now. I started by reading up on rooting on here (xda) and downloaded VISIONary to start. Plenty of guides are available on here or theunlokr.com which can show u what to do. Good luck and don't brick the phone
