So far we have the rooting procedure and the unrEVOked reflash procedure. Between these 2, is there anything that would require EITHER of these processes again? I am sure many people out there in XDA land would rather not have to re-root.
Particularly, will any of the following require [1] rerooting or [2] re-reflashing?
1) Updating HBOOT from 0.77 to 0.79
2) Running a verizon RUU?
3) Updating Clockwork
4) Installing a cooked ROM?
5) Hard Reset
Thanks!!!
you will always have custom recovery unless you flash something else over it (i may be wrong, i believe an ruu can do this, but it depends on the specific ruu)
flashing a cooked rom would only unroot if the rom was not rooted to begin with (most, if not every custom rom will have root included since it would be pointless to run a custom rom without root)

2) Running a verizon RUU? - [1] - Yes [2] - Yes
3) Updating Clockwork - [1] - NO [2] - No
4) Installing a cooked ROM? - [1] - YES (If cooked rom does not contain root, otherwise NO) [2] - NO

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hello all,
I have a htc Magic which I bought from India with the following description.
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.33.0010 (SAP10000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17

Now I was able to root the phone using the One Click Root Method and I was able to Install Amon Ra's ROM and it works perfectly. however I was wondering if I could possibly give the Cyanogen ROM a try too. However I'm a bit confused with the instructions especially since I'm quite new to this.
This guide will tell you how to upgrade from an older (< 4.1.99) version of CyanogenMod to the latest and greatest versions!
Note: it is recommended that if you are on an older version of cm-recovery (< 1.4) you upgrade to cm-recovery-1.4.img (32a users make sure you upgrade to amonra's latest H recovery)
Installation instructions for an HTC Dream/ADP1/G1 and HTC Magic/ION/MT3G:
1. Download either:
* Dream/G1 users download this: Android 1.6 Recovery Image. (This isn’t like a typical "recovery" image we know -- it’s simply HTCs version of an update.zip.) Download Mirrors
* Magic32A and Magic32B users: Download this DRC83_base_defanged.zip
2. Download Cyanogen's ROM latest version
3. Magic32A and Rogers Dream users: Download the 32A/EBI1 kernel latest version
4. Mount your phone and place BOTH the image from step 1 and Cyanogen's ROM (as well as the EBI1/32A port file, if applicable) in the root directory of your SD Card.
5. Turn your phone off.
6. Hold the Home and Power buttons to get to Recovery Mode.
7. Perform a Nandroid backup if you'd like to (optional, but highly recommended).
8. If you want, perform a full Wipe -- this will sometimes allow Google apps to function correctly, if problems arise (optional).
9. If you don't perform a full wipe, it is recommended to clear the dalvik-cache directory (from console or adb shell in recovery):

Here are the instructions I found for "Upgrading From Older CyanogenMod or other rooted ROMs" . Would it be correct to assume that I have to follow the above guide? Also I have Amon Ra's recovery image installed on my phone. I believe the version is 1.5.2H . Can I perform the above install using this recovery image?
Finally the files I have to download and install are
DRC83_base_defanged.zip
Download Cyanogen's ROM latest version
32A/EBI1 kernel latest version
Would that be correct? Thanks in advance and sorry if the questions are quite silly.
I installed this ROM too (Perfect SPL as yours) and even earlier recovery (RA 1.2.3) and there were no problems.
1. Recovery mode, if you haven't done nandroid backup yet (your original ROM), then do this.
2. Choose "wipe data".
3. Apply .zip files which you listed above in this order: base, cyan mod, and port 32a.
4. Reboot and enjoy
Thank you much! Im on Cyanogen Mod as of now. Thanks to all you folk who dedicated their time to allow us to use our devices the way we want.
Cheers .
Hi guys
I am wanting to try out cyanogen custom ROM version 6 on an AT&T N1. I'm reading the below instructions and its a bit unclear to me what I am supposed to do re: the radio. Can someone assist?
- if I follow below instructions, do I end up flashing the radio?
- if so which radio firmware am I supposed to use?
- can I just do below and skip step 3, then I will end up with cyanogen w/ stock radio, and that will work fine? Note I am 850Mhz user.
Nexus one (AT&T version w/ 850Mhz 3G band) running stock FRF91. Baseband: 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.12_7
INSTRUCTIONS:
- First time flashing CM to your Nexus (or coming from another ROM)?
1. Unlock/root your device and install Clockwork Recovery via ROM Manager or Amon_RA's recovery image
2. Do a Nandroid backup!
3. Update your radio if necessary
4. WIPE
5. Install the ROM
5. Optionally install the Google Addon
- Upgrading?
1. Do a Nandroid Backup!
2. Install the ROM (your Google apps will be backed up automatically)
You already have the Froyo radio so you can skip step 3.
These links should help you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618768 especially for getting adb set up and flashing a custom recovery.
I'm an att user, as of froyo both tmo and att versions of the phone use the same radio. So as long as you are coming from a stock froyo build with the new radio you can flash any froyo rom without worrying about the radio... including cm 6 (which I'm currently using without issue).
Edit: it looks as though you have the same radio as me if the baseband version in your post is your phones. so you should be good.
As I had some difficulties putting together the guides out there, for the ps3 hack, and used quite an amount of time, figuring this out.
I finally managed to prepare my phone for this, so I though I would share
1st you need the right radio and SPL (HBOOT) and custom recovery
2nd you need to flash Cyanogen mod 6
3rd you need to flash EIB1 port
and at last you can flash the PSfreedom mod kernel
The guide:
1. the goal is to obtain 3.22 radio and 1.33 SPL and custom recovery. Use this tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824435
1.1 It's important you don't have radio/SPL mismatch in order to use this tool. If you have 6.35 radio, you need to flash 1.76 SPL first.
1.2 After this you can flash old files (this flashes both 3.22 radio, 1.33 SPL and custom recovery.
2. Now, you can go on and flash cyanogen mod 6.0.0. I used the froyo redux modded, but i recommend using this clean install though
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/files/category/3-htc-dream-htc-magic/
2.1 flash it, by using custom recovery. get into recovery by turning of phone, and press and hold "home" + "power" buttons.
2.2 1st you ned to wipe "data/factory reset" and "cache" (i wiped dalvik as well)
2.3 go back, and choose "flash zip from sd card" and locate the zip file.
2.4 reboot to make sure everything is fine
3. Now you can flash the EBI1 port, from here, for the 6.0.0 version, via the custom recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592377
3.1 reboot
4. Finally you can flash the PSfreedom kernel. get it from here
http://psfreedom.com/wiki/HTC_Magic_32A
4.1 reboot
Finally, you are ready to hack your ps3.
For further instructions follow the already made guide for PSfreedom here
http://psfreedom.com/wiki/index.php?title=Using_psfreedom
feel free to comment, so we can make this guide as accurate as possible, in case I should have forgot something or written something unclear
Good luck!
Why don't do you just flash ps3 custom firmware?
The 3.55 have been out for quite some time now.
I did that long time ago and it's working perfectly.
The usb-dongle hack is to annoying.
For your guide to work, you must have 1 requirement at the first step.
The device needs an eng spl for it to work.
The rest seems all ok :0)
Anyway, thank you for making a contribution.
Heh... yeah I found that on youtube today (CWF)... haven't gotten it to work yet though... but it's only transfering the game to internal though, so I guess it doesn't matter which method I use, dongle or no dongle...
but upgraded to CFW 3.55 too now.
This guide is strictly for people who have a Verizon R800x and wants to update to Gingerbread 2.3.4 with root and ClockworkMod recovery, without having to unlock the bootloader nor have a Verizon data plan. Without a data plan you can not update the Verizon Play from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 because they don't allow updating through WiFi. Also if you flash the 2.3.4 ftf image directly, you will not be able to root it, therefor will not be able to install CWM unless you unlock the bootloader. This guide show you to will get around that.
Note: With this method, although you have CWM, you still will not be able to install custom roms and kernels until you unlock the bootloader. This guide was written before Sony allow the Verizon Play bootloader to be unlocked from their site. Go here to unlock your bootloader, which will allow you to flash custom roms and kernels to your Play: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com. If you choose to do this, you can skip this entire guide.
Instructions:
1. You must be running Gingerbread 2.3.3 on your R800x. If you aren't, download the stock Gingerbread 2.3.3 firmware and use Flashtool to flash it. Drag the ftf firmware file onto the Flashtool screen and follow the onscreen instruction to install. This step will wipe all your phone data except the SDcard.
(You might need to install drivers for your device first, you can find "Flashtool-drivers.exe" in the "drivers" folder in your Flashtool folder.)
2. Enable "USB debugging mode" on your device (Settings -> Applications -> Development).
3. Use SuperOneClick created by CLShortFuse to root your R800x. Then reboot the phone.
(This program might trigger a false positive on your antivirus software, so disable your antivirus while using it. This rooting method only work with Gingerbread 2.3.3 for the Play.)
4. Use specifically the "CWM installer v5" created by pvyParts to install ClockworkMod. That's version 5 btw.
Note: At this point, if you are content with using GB 2.3.3 with root and CWM, stop here. Proceed if you want to update to 2.3.4 with root.
5. Download either the "nandroid backup of stock Gingerbread 2.3.4 w/ root" created by netizenment or this NXT Lite CDMA rom which is already debloated and optimized.
(Put the nandroid backup into the correct directory in your microSD card so ClockworkMod will recognize it, it should be extracted into a folder named "backup" within a folder named "clockworkmod".)
6. Boot the phone into ClockworkMod recovery by: Turning it on, when the Sony logo appear, keep pressing the Volume Down button until you see the blue ClockworkMod menu appear.
7. Restore the stock GB 2.3.4 nandroid backup you just downloaded. Then turn off the phone.
(This will only install the system files, it will not install the 2.3.4 kernel.)
8. Installing the stock 2.3.4 kernel:
a. Download the stock Gingerbread 2.3.4 firmware (this is for Verizon only).
b. Drag and drop the ftf onto the Flashtool window. When you see the "Firmware selection" window appears, look to the right column, under "Exclude" and check to exclude all the items in the list, except the kernel. Then flash it.
(This will install just the 2.3.4 kernel while leaving the rest of your rooted Gingerbread 2.3.4 alone. You need to do this for the Camera and WiFi to work.)
9. In the process of restoring the nandroid backup above, the ClockworkMod recovery might become lost. However, you still have root, so you can install ClockworkMod recovery again using the CWM installer.
Other tips: LBE Security Master have can help lighten the bloatware from your rom. Among its many features, can remove system apps and prevent apps from autostarting, which will leave more free rams.
The end.
does this fix the "gtalk" issue, I went back to 2.3.3 from 2.3.4 cause of that issue.

It doesn't fix it. Verizon does this sort of thing on purpose. Pushes out a broken update and then goes, "We are working on a fix."
Hello guys!
I have thought about moving out of LG K10 lately and I created this guide for people who want to sell their phones without a trace of Custom ROM installation.
The package below removes bootloader unlock and TWRP and replaces it with original stock Bootloader and recovery.
If you need VoLTE on MM, follow the guide I published for K420DS VoLTE before following the steps below.
[1] To Remove Root:
(1) Download the ZIP from here.
(2) Boot to TWRP and flash it.
[2] To Get Completely Back To Stock:
(1) Download the file from here.
(2) Boot to TWRP and flash it.
You are now completely back to stock.
