A few questions. Please answer them :)

Hi,
Im looking at upgrading from the Magician to the Wizard on T-Mobile.
Please answer these Q's for me:
1) Is the Remote assistance any good over WIFI?
This function would be really good for me so please post your experiences with it.
2) Is it easy to unlock?
I done searching but cant find much.
3) What ROM should I install on it?
I put the IMATE Jam one on my Magician, but what is the best one to use on the Wizard?

I'm not much help for you but I will say I never could get WinVNC to work on my phone. I haven't tried any other method.

WinVNC isnt the defualt that comes on the phone is it?

Unlocking is easy as long as you don't have the latest ROM installed. Some people have apparently downgraded their ROM to an older version, unlokced the phone (SIM and CID) and then you're free to upgrade to any ROM you like. Check out the big threads on Lokiwiz for more info.
As for what ROM to choose, I've just installed Mr Clean ROM and am very happy with it (see current threads in the Wizard Upgrading topic). He's also done a T-Mobile variant, if you want the T-Mobile stuff added (inc skins) but I personally put in the really clean version and then added just the MMS/GPRS/etc T-Mobile setup stuff, as I never liked T-Mobile's colours much.
One hint - if you want more replies, use a topic subject that's a bit more specific than "I need help", or peole just won't read the thread. Let us know what you actually want to know!

So if I unlock it, then change the ROM it will be good?

Mr bob - if you are getting a brand new t-mobile vario chances are it will have the new G4 chip which can only be cid unlocked via http://www.imei-check.co.uk/ for a cost of approx £30 or so. You can tell if it has a G4 chip by looking at the ipl/spl numbers when it boots up. If it has a number ending in .001 then it has a G4 chip.
There is a free way to upgrade your rom that does not update your ipl/spl see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=56088

I've avoided the custom ROM's because there seem to be too many issues reported, and I haven't found the standard U.S. T-Mo ROM to be a problem for me. Doing some tweaking, including overclocking, has made this device very useful.
Follow the instructions here to bypass loading the T-Mo extended ROM:

You can then add each CAB individually to your taste. This author suggested that you must load the items in red, but I only added four of these and my device works fine. In fact, for a while I didn't have any of these CAB's loaded, and the only thing I missed was SmartDialer.
I don't use any internet features except wifi (freebies, not T-Mo hotspots), so I left most of it out.

i flashed HSPL, it worked great, i was able to flash a WWE ROM on my French Leo, but it did not unlock the device since when i put another SIM card in, it reads, SIM LOCKED, and will not let me use the device from anything other than the French SIM card,...

do i then have to go an buy one of those 'unlockers' from one of the websites just for the LEO, or, is there another way,...

Yes at the moment there is no other way to unlock the HD2 other than to go to your carrier and ask for it or use an unlocking site and provide your IMEI. All HSPL does is to "unlock" you from the clutches of official carrier roms. And provide a nice way to recover if you break your system.

I cant recommend any of them personally as i have not used them but if you run a search on the forum for HD2 carrier unlock you can read what others have to say.

What CID Lock do I have?

Hi all,
first of all appologies if I am posting this in the wrong place but I don't think it quite belobgs in ROM development .
My question is basicaly how do I find out what CID lock is on my HD2?
I bought the phone sim unlocked and all is fine. It works fine with my Virgin sim (UK). I would like to upgrade to the latest official ROM as I don't feel ready to experiment with cooked ROMs just yet.
However when I log on to the HTC web site and try to download a ROM it says "Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device."
I have tried it from both the UK and Europe web sites but get the same result.
The current rom shows no branding of any sort, also there is non on the phone itself.
Is it CID locked to an operators SIM's? If so how do I find out which and will I be able to get a ROM from them if I don't use them?
Or will I have to go the HSPL route and go cooked roms?
Any Help or guidance greatly appreciated.

There are truely unlocked phones, and then there are those unlocked but the serial numbers are blocked on request of the service provider. Vodafone, O2 and (I'm guessing) Virgin do this so you can only upgrade when they OK the ROM release.
You can install HSPL which gets around all that and lets you explore the wonderful world of cooked ROMs...read this

ROM lock and SIM lock are not the same and not connected.
If the HTC website says invalid serial, then the ROM is locked. (Probably to Virgin, if that's where you got it from) and you must wait for them (virgin) to release the update. That is the ONLY way to install a new rom without using HSPL/SSPL
EDIT - Oh, and your line "Or will I have to go the HSPL route and go cooked roms?", , , , HSPL isn't just for cooked roms, it will let you install official HTC roms too, if you want, not just cooked ones.

I didn't get it from Virgin, my SIM is Virgin and that's what I put in it. I bought it privately. I'm guessing then it is CID Locked to Vodaphone or the like.
OK so it looks like HSPL is the route to go?
If I want to install an official HTC ROM how can I download it as I have to enter my serial number and it gets rejected? Are they available elsewhere?
Am I likely to loose anything (apart from guarantee ) by installing latest HTC rom and any advice on which one? I guess by that I mean EU or UK versions?

Its pretty important that you know who it was locked to, because to uninstal HSPL, or to fix it if things go bad, the very best thing to have available is the stock rom. As for losing guarantee, if you bought it privately then you already lost that, right?

im looking for HD2 tmo/sim/cid unlock code,their was one located on the forum,how ever it do not say if for tmo HD2. i picked up my hd2 last week.very impressive device.have lot of feat,but i wont to do more.looking to try diffrent roms. looking to hear from any one with knowlegde of this matter. not looking to brick my HD2 thanx

2.) no unlock codes on the forums since they're device specific
3.) you don't need to sim unlock your device. you need hardspl / softspl for flashing roms

Unlock First??

Maybe this sounds like a dumb question but I want to make sure I don't 'F' this up. I just got my HD2 and I want to get Android running on it. I have to unlock it to work on my network however. My question is do I need to unlock the phone first before proceeding with the process of HSPL, custom ROMs etc.....Or, does it really make no difference?

I think you have to so u dont get robot voice and SOD...I always do the same proccess
hspl change the radio 2_12_50_02_2 and a light WM rom done this for like 5 different hds and no problems with none of them.

I just bought one that has android on it and I am trying to unlock it but when I put the sim card in it does not ask for the unlock code... So yes I would unlock it first. I used http://www.unlockusa.com/unlockingservice.aspx. I used them when I unlocked my wifes mytouch 3g and it works great.
