Slow Market? - EVO 4G General

I've tried searching around here and couldn't find an answer to this. I apologize if this has been asked before.
But I just received my Evo 4G today and i've noticed that when I go to the Market, everything loads extremely slow (whether im on 3G or WiFi). Searching takes longer than usual to find results and when I try to download an app it takes a while for the info to come up. This also occurs on the installation page. It just shows a blank white screen for a while, then shows the info and allows me to download. Anyone know the reason for this?

anyone experiencing this? I know I can't be th only one.

I don't know if mine is quite as extreme as your describe your problems, but it does take a very long time to load the first page of the market, and going to the Downloads page is super slow. Definitely an annoyance.
EDIT: Right now I can't even use the market. It loads but nothing will download, it all fails.

Yeah I have had this issue as well. I am just assuming that its part of the Froyo launch and the fact that it was also having issues yesterday.

I experienced this too when I first got the phone and after rooting and flashing a rom. After I had downloaded and installed a bunch of apps the market went back to normal. I think it just takes some time to load everything or recognize the device.

I'm having the same issue. Before I was getting a [insert app name here] download unsuccessful error, now nothing download's at all .... Now the download unsuccessful error is back...ehh. Guess market place has some issues right now.

Market not working for me either. Just says download unsuccessful.

Hmm, I have problems downloading anything from the market over wifi. It just sits there without ever making any progress. If I turn off wifi, stuff downloads right away over 3g. Everything else seems to work fine over wifi though.

Yea I just realized that after a while of waiting it went back to normal. Not a big problem. Thanks anyways.

it happenss from time to time, usually just server load

So how come installing or upgrading apps takes a day? (Like doesnt start)

Something I have wondered since day 1 on the G1, Sometimes when you click to install a app or upgrade a app, even after you power cycled the phone, it still doesnt start DLing.. then next day low and behold it starts up on its own. Anyone ever figure out why there is a delay sometimes like this? Just wondering. =)
I had this happen with one app, taskiller free. I thought it was just the app or something wrong with the download server. I eventually got it to download a few days/week later. It was an update, so I could use the app fine so I never really bothered till I was board.
known bug
Some versions of Android 1.5 had this bug. I think it was only the google builds (ex. 5.0.xG where x is some number) that were affected.
Comment by davidbessler, Apr 21, 2009
...I can confirm that the G build DOES download from Market, but sometimes up to 12 hours after initiating download. All 3 apps I had initiated at 3:00am suddenly downloaded over 2G network at 3:00pm...

Sometimes it takes even more than 12 hours! I found that this problem just went away for me without upgrading. One day it just started working fine, go figure
Yea but any word on how to fix that? I mean if it was a network thing, thats one thing but I did try via wifi and network its just odd sometimes.. glad it isnt always like that.
The trick I have found is to pick one of the downloading apps and click cancel. Then start the download back. This seems to kick start the others. This of course when restarting doesn't work.

The only way I figured out was to Cancel the download on the market and the restart it and it works fine!
Oh we know that trick of stopping it and starting it again. However the thing that bugs me is. It downloads.. but doesnt do the install process. So back to downloading it again. Kinda odd why it does that.

market doesnt work!

Just got the phone today, have an issue with the market. Every app I try to download, fails, says thatcdownload was not successful. Any ideas? Anybody else having problems? Also, if I try and do factory data reset, it fails as well.
Odd man, no issue here... sorry I cant offer anything up.
no everything ok here but i do have an isue with Google GPS on the maps??
no problems with market either.
My Market keeps losing connection every now and then.
Market works fine for me as well tho on occasion it takes a little while to load the "services description" after hitting install on an application.
I had no problems what so ever with the market before i rooted the phone
^ that makes it sound like you have an issue AFTER rooting? But you did not explain.... so I assume you do not have an issue?

Haven't rooted it yet even. I'm thinking something wrong with the rom on my phone. Am at the gym now, was going to go to the store and try to get a replacement after.
Just picked up a brand new vibrant and I'm having market issues. Unsuccessful downloads. NO root BTW. Some apps initially installed but now it doesn't work anymore despite several reboots

Just came back from Tmobile. Got a replacement, tested market at the store and updated maps and installed Pandora with no issues. Drove home, issue came back! Blenheim, it is not my phone, something is going on here!

spoke to the folks over at tmobile611 and they said that since our plans get 'reset' when buying a new phone, such issues are possible. they advised the usual 48hr period to see if the problem goes away.
interestingly, my 3g works for web browsing and everything else. its only the market that's having an issue, even over WiFi.

Unlikely, I paid full retail as I am on even more plus and I'm not even the primary on my account. My gf got the slide last week, she hasn't had any problems like this.
I fixed it!!! Not sure which one of the things did it, but here is what I've done!
A) in settings, manage apps, clear cache for market AND market updater AND download manager. I also force stopped them all!
B) under settings, manage networks, switched to 2g only for 39 seconds, then unchecked the box again. After, I went ahead and searched for networks and hit select automatically.
Then bow market is working, knock on the wood!

interesting.. i put my SIM back in my mytouch3g and the market worked just fine (after it prompted me to enter my password again).
put the SIM back in the Vibrant, entered market, input password on being asked, and AGAIN NO DOWNLOADS!

Danger, I'm sorry, that's what I've done and it still is working. Annoying issue for sure, if I find anything else, I will post it here. Maybe somebody else has a better solution?
I am having problems with my market as well and the above suggestion didn't help. Suck!
the advice given to me over in the root your vibrant thread was to sign into google talk first, then open the market. It works, most of the time, although the majority of the time it doesnt install the first time and I have to hit retry once or twice. But it does work.

[Q] 3G connection issues and MMS problems.

Question 1: For the whole life of my current phone my 3G connection seems to refuse to download at times. The 3G icon is there but the up/down arrows won't light up even though my browser/app is trying to connect. It often times will connect fine later or after a restart. Sometimes the upload arrow will stick on but the download arrow never lights up. Has anyone else had this problem or have any idea what could be causing it? I have tried to research it many times and have always come up short.
Question 2: I never noticed this when I was running stock but ever since I've been running custom roms I have had trouble getting picture messages to download. It seems to work if I have the messaging app open and when I'm sending it to myself. But if I'm running handcent or the app isn't open and running it will say its downloading but never download. I also can't find any info on this, so anyone have some light on the issue? Also could these issues be related to eachother?
I will try restoring to stock and testing the MMS bug cause I haven't yet but even so I would like to find a fix to this on custom roms even if it works on stock.

[Q] Market Apps Won't DL W/O Wifi

Hi guys, I am having a problem with downloading apps through cellular data on my mytouch 4g. I can download them fine if I am on wifi but it gets stuck on "starting download" progress bar without it. I've tried clearing the data for the market app, restoring it back to factory, and the google talk sign in; none of these worked for me. This is driving me crazy and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Update: Fixed nvm
How did you fix it?
yeah how you fixed it would be nice as mine is doing the same thing... ugh wish t-mo could have just brought a legit phone out
Turn On Wifi
Even if there is no wifi connection, on my MT4G the wifi has to be enabled for the market to download.
I think this may be fixed on the new update that came out today. I still haven't seen my update yet. :-( mine still does this too.

Go into settings/wireless networks/mobile network or operator and select Tmobile network. Even it is checked select it and make sure your phone is gsm/wcdma checked. WCDMA only created problem for me. Also if you have temp root you will not get the update as long as it is running on your phone. In addition, if you disabled any bloatware you have to restore it before the update. Once I disabled Visionary and restored back to factory I got the update in a couple of hours.
This is a really weird problem but it has to do something with the connection to the google servers (mainly google talk). This is evident by the fact that you are signed off and can not connect to google talk when you're stuck on the starting download phase of downloading the app(s). There are two ways around this problem that I've seen so far
1. Before you want to download an app, run google talk and make sure you're signed in, then sign out and sign in again. Go download the app(s) afterwards. Once you do this after you first power on the phone, it should last until you power it off.
2. Another way is go and try to download an app(s) you want and it will be stuck on the starting download bar. DO NOT cancel the download, just restart the phone and it should start downloading once the phone is back on.
P.S. The update did not fix this issue because I still have to deal with it.
If I learn anything new, I will keep you posted.

I got the update with Superuser and root just fine.
Not to rub it in, but I'm really glad that I am not experiencing this problem. I'm liking the phone too much to have a reason to bring it back!
Ok I have found out that the Google talk sign out sign in trick does not always work while the restarting one always works. It definitely is something to do the Google servers and the way the phone syncs with them. What I found interesting is that when you open the market app, immediately experience this problem as you can not sync under accounts settings and services like Google talk stop working. Another thing is that it seems to be the HSPA and HSPA+ connections causing the issue, the apps won't dl on them but it will start immediately as your phone drops to edge. I don't know if this is a hardware, software issue with the phone or the Google servers getting adjusted to the mytouch 4gs since they just came out.
Think I'm going to exchange my phone since not a lot of people have this problem.
Sorry to bring up an old thread but i'm now having this issue aswell. I've tried to clear data, can't download on Wifi or 3g. When i click ok it just says the download will be started and nothing happens, Sometimes if i play around i can get it to go to say starting download but just sits there then i will get either a network error to retry or cancel. Sometimes it's just a download unsuccessful and i click ok.
I tried resetting aswell and still same issue. Not sure how to sign out of google talk.. haven't quit got the hang of android yet but i'm actually not happy right now!

Problems with Market

WTH is going on!? The last 2 weeks Market has been flaky at best. I click to update/download something and it just hangs. Come back to it hours later and the program I clicked on 3 hours ago is finally installed.
I'm on stock, rooted with 1 click. Anyone else seeing this problem?
I posed this earlier in IRC. what I do is sign in and out of Google Talk. Seems to clear it up.
Google talk is pre-installed on your phone. The app is called talk.

I can sign out of Google talk but I can sign back in. I reboot the phone and still have the same issue. I've been having this issue for the past week so something makes me thing it's the market/sprint.

Ok, to me, you just confirmed that it's a Sprint/Google connection issue. A few people in the Evo forum are having the same problems. Some people weren't even rooted and were having the same problems.
It seems to affect all google apps including Market, Gtalk, Gmail, etc. The apps seem to hang or give me a server error. My problems just started last night and I too am rooted. Luckily, like I said before, it seems to affect rooted and unrooted users.
I called up Sprint and they wanted me to do a hard reset (of course), but I refuse to since these seem like bigger problems, and they probably can't be solved on the phone level, but rather on the network level.
Hopefully they can find the problem soon!
Great, now I can't login to talk or use the market.
I rebooted a couple times and it worked for a couple mins, then stopped again. I'm gonna go with this is a Google problem, doesn't work when I use wifi either.
Fix for Wifi issues with Samsung Epic
So ever since I rooted my phone I've had issues with wifi for use with anything such as the market, web browser, sms, you name it.
Found that there is a file that is easily corruptible and can easily be fixed thankfully with a free app from the market called Android Mate.
You'll have to have your phone rooted and then navigate to the phones base directory then go here: /data/wifi/ and delete this file: bcm_supp.conf
Android Mate seems to have issues with navigating the base folder (root directory) so for me I went to the data folder and had to manually type in /wifi and it pulled up the bcm_Supp.comf file and I deleted it and rebooted my phone and presto no more issues.
Hope this helps a few people
I am unrooted and am having the exact same problem. Both with market and gmail. I can't even get emails half the time or hardly ever even see the apps I've downloaded in market! Very frustrating!

Someone at Howard Forums reported they can't even get to sites like google.com and Gmail from their laptop when connected to the internet via their Sprint data card.
Today, Google Talk FC's for me every time I try to start it.
