Fellow EVO owners, I have a problem with call waiting and I'm trying to see if its an operator issue or if something is wrong here.
The problem occurs 100% of the time..
I'm on a phone call. I either:
Put Call A on Hold and dial another person OR
Receive and answer another call while on Call A.
This brings me to the issue where I cannot end just one call. Pressing the "End Call" button (Big red one) ends both calls.
What am I doing wrong here?
I have exactly the same issue.
You aren't doing anything wrong, as far as call waiting goes, the other caller hanging up, will disconnect their call. No need for you to disconnect them, just flash over to the caller you still want to talk to.
In 3-way, one caller hanging up will disconnect only them, but if you hang up, all callers are disconnected.
but what if you dont want to wait for them to hang up or if they don't hang up? Shouldn't there be a way to just drop one of the calls?
Yes there should be. The "End Call" button should simply end one call. If you press Menu you'll see an option to "End all Calls"..
The problem is that the End Call button ends all the calls...

Just because you want it, doesn't mean it's available. It's just a feature that isn't built into the stock ROM. Maybe a dev here will change that.
I think it is more than that, I think it is an actual bug! If the 'second' caller hangs up, the EVO doesn't update it's display to show that you're only on 1 call, it still shows both! AND to make matters worse, if you were talking to the 'second' caller when they hung up, the display will still show you're talking to them (based on caller ID) but really you're switched back to the 'first' caller--and there is NO NOTIFICATION that this has occurred. In fact, if you try to switch back to the first caller manually by tapping their entry on the display, you get a dial tone. Talk about confusing. What's the point of having a screen where you show which calls are available and can switch back and forth if you can't end one call? My friend with the Nexus One doesn't have this issue so I think this is an EVO issue.
This is a problem with CDMA in general, I believe

Well I do want it, but this isn't Cool Feature X that everyone is clamoring for This is basic stuff. The "End Call" button should not end all calls. That is what the "End all Calls" button is in the Menu. And if someone on the far end hangs up the call, the EVO should update and not display it like the call is still on the other line...
But I was just trying to see if anyone else has noticed this.
See the second half of my last post, according to the EVO user's manual. Or maybe HTC will put it in their next release. End of story.
Just so we're all clear--the actual manual for the EVO only mentions how to switch between calls in the "call waiting" section. It also recommends using the 'flash' command on the menu and doesn't even mention being able to use the display. It give NO instructions on how to hang up just one of the calls. Clearly this is a bug in the EVO rom--especially when you consider that there is an 'end all calls' button in the menu. What else would that button be for?!
If it were a bug, and not operating as it's supposed to, don't you think the manual would state that it should operate that way? Geez, people, give it a rest. I'm sure a developer here will probably program it into their next rom.
Using the logic that you state, one could apply that to the magnifying glass on the search button... "all it does is allow you to search, when clearly, it's a magnifying glass... so why doesn't it let you magnify things when you push it? Clearly it's a bug in the EVO rom, and it should be fixed."

Actually, I think that if the "end call" button was supposed to end all calls, it would be labeled "end all calls" like the button in menu. Why can't you allow for a bug in the software?
As for your magnifying glass comment--you didn't follow my logic at all. My logic says: the button should do what it says--and the button clear says "end call" NOT "end calls". Following your logic where you assume the user has no knowledge of Android or of the phone itself and only looks at the symbols on the button then what should an "End Call" button do? Seems to me, it should only end ONE call since the word is not plural. What do you think it should do?

Why not allow for this supposed bug of yours? Because the phone operates as it is specified to operate per the manual. That being the case, demonstrates that this is not a bug, but simply a lack of inclusion of a feature that would be nice to have. Good day to you.
i had the same problem on my hero.
It does work....kinda
So I did a test and if you hit "End Call" it will end the call that you were currently on....but the phone will look as if it hung up both lines and return to the keypad. If you wait a couple seconds you will then get an incoming call from the other line (the call that was on hold) and when you answer the person thinks you just clicked back over.....give it a try and tell me if anyone has had a similar result.
rock,
you are correct. you hang up one call.. wait a few seconds and the phone will ring. you answer the phone and the other caller is there..
thats standard CDMA... no bug.. thats how circuit switched CDMA works...
Every Sprint phone I've ever had has (counter intuitively) behaved exactly like this.

Can Any one make the following app? Would it cost me? Does it already exist?
Usually, when your phone is in standby and you get a call, the screen turns on and you can take the call pressing the "send" button.
Is there an app for WM6 (or can some one make it) that can tweak the settings and I still have to press the "on" button to turn on the screen and the buttons?
Or is there a simple registry tweak for that?
Let's say a person cannot take the call accidently under any circunstances. The person doesn't want to press by accident the "take call" button and let the caller hear his conversation.
(no I do not cheat on my wife... I wouldn't cheat on her... i don't have a wife actually)

you can lock your phone by holding the disconnect button after you are done using it. It will ask for you to either tap an clearly marked button or enter a certain sequence of symbols (I believe it's ***).
This would be a native, and there non memory taking, solution

Thanks, but on my phone that is not helping... it lets you take the call anyway with only pressing connect button... thus insecure. Well at least on my phone. I want to have a hard time answering, and never answer by mistake.
btw, TyTN II
i agree i would like to have a program like this on my phone also..
i second that too.
thats something we NEED.
S2U looks promising but i cant get it set up so the send and disconnect button are disabled
Any helpers?
I can pay
1. I read that when a call is coming in and you turn it face down, it should mute the ringing. Doesnt happen here, how do you enable it?
2. When someone is calling me and i press the Mute Ring button, it doesnt mute the device or stop the vibration. Any ideas on this?
3. When i slide to ignore, it displays the call as missed, while it's not, i chose to ignore it, any way to fix that?
4. The phone part seems very slow, when dialed first the active call icon pops up then after some time the answer/ignore part comes up then again you wait some time until the ringing/vibration starts and when you answer it it takes a while for the vibration to stop. Also when the person calling hangs up, it continues to ring/vibrate for a while. Gotta say, that's the most annoying part, otherwise i love the phone...
Seems like you have an unwanted caller eh

Heh... no, simply testing and being disappointed
The phone program is by far the worst in WinMo imo, like everything else.
#1. if the phone is face down it will not mute; if it is face up and you turn it face down it will mute. it's not instant for me; takes about 2 seconds.
#2 is working for me; ringing and vibrating stops about 1 second after button press. not experiencing the other issue
#3 This (as i understand it) is expected behavior.
#4 i guess slow is relative to past experiences, in my case it's behaving as i expect it to.
Hi there,
I am a little ticked off with the way the phone switches the light off and you HAVE to press a button to get it back up when in the middle of a call.
Is there any way to keep the phone awake while on a call? Ofcourse, I HAVE tried out "Shake Awake", but thats a little buggy too.
And also, the buttons for Hold, Mute, Speaker mode and all those options come up only when you press the menu button. Is there any alternate dialler available or something which can get all these options on the screen while on the call like the iPhone as its easier to use it than press the button to get the options?
just install keepscreen.
edit: this will keep the screen alive. about the alternative dialer i don't know. but be aware that the phone has no proximity sensor, so you are prone to accidentally press random buttons.
Cool. Will check it out man. Thanks.
I have a different problem - since, sadly, Hero has not got a proximity sensor, I constantly drop my calls by accidently touching the end call button with my cheek. I believe that's a reason the screen backlight goes off so quickly during a call - when the screen is off, it does not react to touch too, so that accident call drops would be less likely.
There are still some serious problems though. First of all, screen timeout during a call is not short nough - while you can know that you must wait a few seconds before you can actually touch the phone with the face, others can't, so call drops are, sadly, unavoidable in such cases. The fact that hold, mute and other buttons are hidden under the menu button is a good thing not only because it keeps Android phillosophy straight, but reduces chances of unwanted misc. actions. The solution of this problem could be an option to disable the end call button, since there are dedicated hardware keys for that.
I have also noticed that if you minimize the dialer during a call with home button, the screen timeout will not be quick, so before continuing a call it's a good idea to bring the dialer back by tapping the hardware call button so the screen timeout becomes quiick again.
Very true. I thought about all these before I posted, but on the other end, I just said 'f it' to myself and asked it here.. hehe.
I wonder if iPhone users have such issues.
As someone in this forum mentioned, it is best to have the screen switched OFF during a call, unless you have something to do. This way, it prevents you from fiddling with the controls.
Not just the hero, earlier models too have this feature. It quite odd in the beginning, but you will love it later.

Not necessary!
During a call
- Press "Call" to hold (will also mute)
- Press and hold "Call" to activate speaker mode.
Hi Guys,
I have been having issues when trying to end a call with the new WP7 Rom. I also used to have this when using Andriod Roms.
When I go to end a call, pressing the end call button does nothing apart from light up the keypad. I've tried pressing every button but nothing but the keypad lighting up happens, the call never ends! I have to remove my battery and switch the phone back on to get the use of my phone back.
I have :
HardSPL 2.08
MAGDLR111
Radio 2.15.50.14
Any Ideas?
Thanks,
Jon

Did you not try the end call on the screen? Not the hard one on the bottom right of phone
Russ
The screen turns off when making a call so the touch buttons are not available. This is why I have to remove the battery as I have no other way of bringing the display back to life. Obviously if I make a call and the other person hangs up it's fine. However if they do not answer and it goes to voicemail or I call my voicemail I get stuck in a never ending loop of press 2 to hear your messages.

Official windows phones have no hard end call button, just the on screen one, therefor I dont think its possible to end a call with the hardware button. Yes, the screen goes off when making a call, but due to the proximity censor it should come back when you move it away from your head. If it does not, make sure its not covered, even a screen protector can block the proximity sensor. Its located next to the speaker.
Hmm I removed the screen protector and still no joy when I move the phone away from my face. The screen just remains black. I did crack the screen about 5 months ago and had it replaced, perhaps they've done a poor job on this....
Don't think so... My is in perfect shape. proximity works on android but not on wp7... i also can't press end call button.
same thing with me
well i get the same problem with mine also, is there anything we can do for that.
I have the same issue, though it only happens to me when calling my voicemail. I hit "end call" and it just hangs there with the message "Ending call..." and I have to pull the battery :/ Regular phone calls have been just fine though.
Finally cracked this one!
I have been experiencing this issue on my Optimus 7 phone since day one, on all firmware versions and I now have the latest update.
This is what worked for me:
-set the automatic brightness to off and choose any manual setting that suits your needs, I chose medium.
-set the screen timeout to never (not sure that this is necessary, I will change it back to 30 sec to see if the issue returns and post back)
I hope this works with your phones, it was really frustrating to pull the batery out. Good luck!
I've had this issue as well. Pressing the end call button on the screen won't end many of my calls, voicemail or to another person. But it's rare enough that it hasn't bothered me, too much. But is a problem that needs to be figured out, if possible.
We should come up witha way to re map the hard buttons to usefull use

I'm assuming your phone is an HD2. First of all, the call should automatically end when the other party hangs up. Secondly, just hit the Power button to turn the screen back on and then unlock the phone and hang up. What is so difficult? WP7 remaps the HD2 buttons so they don't work as they did in WM.

Worked. T H A N K S!!!
first issue it's incredibly annoying when I am leaving a message on someone else's voicemail and they call me and I can't find a way to quickly hang up and switch to the other call. surely there is an option I am missing that allows you to hang up the call you're on an answer the other 1 but I end up hanging up on the person calling.
second I can't find a way to hang up the phone if I inadvertently switch from the phone to the home screen. is there a button that always hangs up the phone when you aren't on the phone dialer screen?
Notification, expand the current call one and there would be hang up.

When you get a call when you're already in one you can swipe to answer the incoming call. On the AOKP ROM there is a hangup button in the notification panel. If you're not running that ROM you can always just go back to the phone app then hang up.

how???? the only options avaliable are for the incoming call "answer/ignore/text"
if i answer..then the other call is on hold and i'm bouncing around through screens again looking to find a way to (a) switch calls..(b) hang up the old one...(c) take the other one off hold.
that is super unwieldy especially when you're like 'hello??? hello??' making sure the other person is still on the line and the proxmity sensor keeps cutting in and out while you're trying to look at the damn phone, listen for the other person..look to see if you've managed to switch over...hit more buttons...listen for the other person..make sure you hung up on the wrong person...and then look for the 'hold' button flag and turn that off.
check accessibility, power button to end calls for accidental calls

Go into settings, accessibility and check "Power button ends call". If you need more than that, you might have to write your own script, app, etc.
Just don't hit your power button when in a call you actually want to be in.

THANK YOU!!! :good:
going out of my mind on this one. its super embarrassing when you accidently call someone you were about to send a text to and say 'i'm not available' and they're on the line going 'hello? hello?' while i'm trying to figure out how to hang up on them without speaking.
the power button is better than nothing.
the 2 line management is atrocious.
i bet i call someone at least 2-3x a week and get their voicemail and as i'm leaving a message for them..they call back.
then i'm in android-phone-hell trying to do something that *SHOULD* be a no-brainer.
i can't be the only one this happens to all the time. if i'm in a car its even worse (yeah yeah dont use the phone while driving) because i'm about to swerve off the road trying to look down at the phone 15x to switch calls and hang up on the old one.
what usually happens is
A. i answer the other call and leave a 20 minute blank voicemail on the original line which google leaves politely open the whole time i'm on the other call.
B. hang up on the incoming call in my attempt to hang up the call i'm on and have to call the other person back again and hope they pick up. this is DEATH if you're waiting on a callback from a customer service person.
this is horrible design. i know i'm not the only this happens to all the time.

ok, this is a half-ass feature. it 'kind of' works but doing my experiment (on call with someone when new call comes in) the power button does freaking NOTHING. it doesn't try to hang up either call.
it only works if you are on a call and someone else isn't trying to call in.
*sigh*

Maybe it was Cyanogen or just older Android but I could have sworn there was a "Hangup and Answer" option. I used to use this all the time when I was calling someone and their voicemail picked up but they called me right back before I could leave a message, I would just tap that option and it would end the current call and answer the new one.

I tried the notification trick.. No love. You can't pull anything down while on a call unless maybe you're talking about a custom ROM.
Seems your phone is frozen when there is an incoming call. All you can do is answer text or ignore.

I'm missing that option. I recently bought a Sony XperiaZ and there was an option to "hang up and answer". I'm sure of it and was really appreciating it. But I didn't like the phone and just bought a Nexus 5. I'm on Cataclysm custom rom but I don't see anything like that to make our lives easier.
