Ok after I did a hard reset , I was redownloading apps and stuff , but I noticied that the programmes I've installed on my sd cards were still there and I can use them. But only when i open file explorer and open them from there , and they don't show up on my start menu.
I want them to show up there , how do i do that ?
When you installed apps, did you choose to install to device rather than storage card?
Remove installed programs.
Apply apps cabs again, but choose install to device.
The apps have been installed before the hard reset , and on the sd card and they did show up on the start menu even though they were installed on the storage card.
And after the hard reset , they are still there and work but don't show up in the start menu.
You can create a shortcut by copying the .exe file on the SD card then going to
\Windows\Start Menu\Program Files\ and pasting as shortcut.
You will find that not all work as they will be missing registry entries and registration codes etc. These you will need to re-install and or re-register.
Incidentally, Hard Rest only restores the Phone memory - it has nothing to do with the SD Card.
because when you did a hard reset it doesnt wipe the sd card so everything will still be on there, as the post above suggest you can create shortcuts, or just delete the programs folder from you're sd card and re-install everything
I save all my apps direct to sd card then when I install them I install basic programs eg net.cf and cookies to device and everthing else to storage card, aslong as you are installing a cab it'll automatically create a link to your start menu, and god I've hard to hard set numerous times and it always works the same for me

recently, my kjam is showing 2 storage card folders, i don't know why but one day i just had it. what would be the cause of this?
my normal mini sd card is shown as storage card 2, and the storage card folder is showing installed app on it (phone skins) plus the temporary internet files folder.
any idea?
I don't know what causes it, but it happened to me once. I took out the card and soft reset it and it was back to normal.
i just did that but no changes happened, i still have the 2 folders (storage card & storage card2)
i there any other solution?
I had same problem when install to autorun application with an internal reference to Storage Card. I suppose autorun appications run before Storage Card device availabity.
Please read http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/in...y_sd_card_likes_to_rename_itself_to_sd&more=1
Same thing here!
I've got the same problem and I posted under a new thread as I believe this is related to the upgrade of my TMobile UK ROM - did not have the problem before.
this happened to me too , and the folder contained a "my documents" folder
Wierd !
It's not at all weird - just read my article. I explain there how this can happen and how the mess can the cleaned up.
I realised it is because you set your StorageCard as the default message - or temporary internet files store. The problems I usually have when I use ActiveSync and I turn off (or it turns off itself) the PDA.
My method is very simple and works:
Just delete the empty StorageCard folder and after a soft reset everything will be fine.
If you cannot delete, for example because TemporaryInternetFiles are there and index.dat is locked, you have to make a softreset first, and after it you can delete the fault SDCard folder and after another softreset everything will ok.
Hello,
yesterday i encounterd a rather starnge problem with my prohet.
My SD Card suddenly appears as Storage Card2 in the PDA, so none of the programs that are installed on it can be run right now.
the data is all still there and also i discovers a folder named "Storage Card" in my Device no matter if the SD card is inserted or not.
inside is a temp folder
inside there a Cache,Cookies and a History folder
in each of those is one file that appears to be connectet to the internet explorer
namely Content.IE5 in cache
index.dat in Cookies
History.IE5 in History
i tryed to delete the complete Storage Card folder with total commander but it faild telling me 3 files could not be deletet.
when the device is connected to the pc via active sync i can see the same folders but when i try to delete them i get an error that they can not be deletet cose of insufficient right, or they could be in use, or not enough space on the disc. or write protection
how can i get rid of those files and get my SD card back as "Storage Card" instead of "Storage Card2"?
Basically, the "Storage Card" folder would have been created when IE was used but the storage card was not installed. The easy option would be to Hard Reset, however it may be possible to close IE and then remove the storage card folder. After this you'll need to soft reset.
I had the same issue several times when I'm using a miniSD on my himalaya with a adopter. But a soft reset was always enough for me...

Click to collapse
the starnge thing is that the sd card is more or less permanentliy inserted in the prophet, i usually just remove it to copy something on it from the pc, and in that time i dont use the pda.
since i have installed opera mini, i dont use IE at all, cant recall when i started that program the last time.
allerady tryed a soft reset and to delete the folders afterwards, but rigth from the start the files are "locked"
and i really want to avoide a hardreset. took me allmost 2 weeks to get the device fine tuned as it is right now, and actually in the 20 months i have this device now its the first time it is running without any problems since about 3 months. before that i allwas needed to make a hardreset every few weeks.
Maybe opera mini is using the same cache as PIE?
I think, it may be possible to change the registry settings for IE cache and storage and then reset and remove the files. I'll check up the registry settings for that...
just delete it
did you change your internet cache to the sd card?
when reset your ppc there wasn't a card inside the sd slot it will prompt the ppc to create an alternative folder for the internet cache.
simply insert the sd card into the slot, soft reset, and when it goes back to windows delete the 'storage card' folder created in your ppc (retaining the storagecard2) , remove the sd, and reinsert it back.
the ppc will now recognize your sd as the 'real storage card'
hope this will work for u...
That won't work as the cache will store into the "Storage Card" folder, adn not "storage Card".
Had a thought! Try renaming the "storage card" folder to storage card2, insert the SD card and then soft reset. then, try and delete the folder that isn't your storage card...
Having an issue with my Wing, hoping someone can help. I had my Wing connected to my PC today, iFonz was the only app running. I wanted to copy some movies to my Wing and I know that copying directly to the microSD is infinitely faster than going through Activesync, so I popped out my card, put it in my reader and copied the movies. When it was done I put the card back in my phone.
So I'm at work today and want to send a text to my brother, hit the SMS button on iFonz, and it crashed. No big deal I thought, I'll just relaunch it, crashes happen. So I relaunch iFonz... nothing... so I try to launch Resco File Explorer... nothing... interesting. So I fire up the normal WM file explorer, it seems my SD card is now called Storage Card2. Storage Card is still shown, but doesn't load anything when selected. So now whenever a lnk is looking for a program on my SD card it doesn't find it.
Any one know a way to fix this? I tried resetting w/ the card in and w/o the card in, same issue. 8*(
I seem to have fixed it. I fired up Resco off the SD card, deleted the Storage Card directory on the Wing, then soft reset. The Wing recognized the SD card as Storage Card again and all is good. 8*)
I've run into this a few times as well. It only happens to me if i left an app running in the background or with certain today modules. I've always had to use the same solution as you did.
I think the cause would be if there is a registry tweak that redirects database directory to the Storage Card and you removed it and did a soft reset, it would actually create a directory automatically even though your SD is not there! And what you would do is pop the SD in again and that would create the Storage Card2 directory.
Fix i think would be, delete the Storage Card directory using Resco Explorer, turn off the phone, insert your SD then turn the phone again.
The only registry tweaks I've done are to change the font colors for the today screen, so that wasn't it (of course an app might have done something).
I don't know the offending application, but something must have wanted to write to the /storage card/ folder on the phone. When the card itself wasn't there it simply created the directory it needed to write the data to. Like I said tho', the simple solution was just to delete the newly created /storage card/ directory, make sure the card is in, soft reset.
How to fix it easily
Okay, just go to file explorer on your phone. You will see storage card2 with the black icon on it and another folder that says storage card. Delete "storage card," and take out your storage card. Then put it back in, and it will just say "Storage Card."
Everytime I install new program to HD2 it asks me if I want to install into main memory or SD card. My PC windows experience says that it is advisable to install programs to main drive (C: usually). Does the same logic apply to WM devices? Or is it safe to install apps into SD card (which would leave more space on actual device)
It's really up to you where you install them. The only things to bear in mind are that the internal storage cannot be expanded, and you can remove the storage card.
The way I do this is to install anything that I think I'll really want to always have at hand on the device (essential apps like coreplayer, nitrogen etc..) That way, if I remove the storage card then my device still has my most favoured apps on it. Anything that I'm not too fussed about (games in my case) goes on the storage card.
It's your call completely, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with installing things on the storage card. In fact, I'd recommend doing it when you're installing non-essential apps so that you save internal storage for things that you don't have a choice with (MarketPlace apps, for example, or tweaks and mods).
Hope this helps mate.
ok, thanks for detailed reply. I will try to install apps to SD card, if that option becomes available during installation process. I am not switching SD cards, so it should be fine then.
one more question that is related to the first one... If I install application on SD card, then if I take the memory card out, put new ROM into phone and insert SD card back. Will applications run as before installing new ROM? Are all program files saved to SD card when installing or does it do some registry entries or save some files onto maine phone memory???
In my old JasJam I found that programs loaded faster when stored on the device storage as opposed to the SD card.
Is this the same on the HD2?
If you upgrade ROM then you will need to do a backup first then restore afterwards otherwise you will lose everything including the links to the programs on the SD Card (although the programs will still be there).
I use SPB backup to do this. It works well. I used it yesterday after I upgraded my O2 V1.43 ROM to HTC 1.66. The restore worked great
All Micro D cards aren't the same I paid a bit more and got a Class 6(fastest) 16GB card. Class 2 is the slowest.
I hope this helps?
Things to remember
SD card usage eats battery.
SD card usage is slower than phone mem.
SD card usage can cause conflicts and freezes.
SD card usage creates app associations that really should not be carried over to new ROM flashes.
Installation to phone mem gives smoother and more stable operation of phone.
You have plenty of on phone storage space so why not use it?
Links to apps gone
i have loads of applications on my SD card for my HD2 but when i reset it i lost all the links to them so now the only way to get to them is to go to the file explorer but i dont have any icons anywhere else on my phone, any suggestions?
Either reinstall the apps, or simply browse to the executables, copy, and paste as shortcut in \windows\start menu.
When ever I load a program onto my SD card it does not show up in the list on the remove programs application.
How do you mean 'load'? When I install to SD, they are all there.
If I install a program onto the SD card using a CAB or windows installer the program doesn't apear in the remove programs list. It used to and there are programs in the list that are installed on the storage card but has stopped updating the list. Any ideas why.
