I am having audio problems with my Hero after rooting and install Fresh Rom 2.1.2.
I added the patch for SU problems.
I am experiencing problems with audi on my phone from time to time.
I think its the following bug...
httpp://bugs.geekfor.me/view.php?id=12
Looks like their recommendation is to "Using OC Widget instead of SetCPU seems to be the fix for this one. ".
Does anyone know how to do this on Fresh ROM 2.1.2. I am not familiar with how to set this.
Thanks!
Uninstall SetCPU and download OverClock Widget from the market.
Thanks!
Installed OC widget, will test...
SetCPU was not installed, that I can tell on stock Fresh ROM, I installed OC but still see same audio problems. Usually when you are texting or typing ie contacts or IM and a call comes in, all sound is killed and only a shutdown can fix
try running the .5 RUU, then see if it still does it (w/o rooting your phone, and don't install updates). if you're good, then root / install rom, see if it still does it. if not, you're good. if so, need a new hero (if it does it w/o rooting)
Works fine with the Stock .5. I recovered back to the stock rooted and no problems. Something with the Fresh ROM. Looks like most people are using the Fresh Toast and they changed clocks to fix it. No way for people with Fresh ROM to work around looks like to me...

Is anyone else having this problem?
I've got a Rogers HTC Magic, and whenever I've tried a ROM with Android 1.6 or greater (I've tried 3 or 4) the accessing the camera will cause the phone to reboot itself.
It doesn't happen the first time I use the camera, but it does the second time and consistantly.
Does anyone else have this problem?
1.5 ROMs are fine. I'm currently using cursorsense and it's not an issue but at some point I will want to use a newer version of Android.
I have the same problem :x
Relash the rom. If you are using any of the legal roms (cyanogen/superd) flash the base before the rom. remember to wipe before starting.
I've tried cyanogen 2.1 test2 and Smoki both causes reboot when using camera apps (barcode scanner, google goggles, fxcamera, ...).
It doesn't reboot always tho like 1/3 times i use one of these apps i get a black screen and then a reboot.
Im using CursorSense now and all the camera apps work just fine :s.
Always did a wipe before flashing the roms.
Known issue. Been dealing wirh this for a long time on my Rogers Magic. I think the trouble is the devs dont have this model, and no one has submitted useful logs. http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=792
Hi! When running ROMs that are "newer" such as 2.2 ROMs they crash/freeze for no apparent reason. With or without an SD card in, everything wiped, newly updated recovery etc etc.
However! When i run a ROM like Kimera 1.8 Cupcake ROM it all floats on perfectly.
I cant see any rhyme nor reason behind the problems im experiencing. Any thoughts? It's really killing me :/
Could you define "crash/freeze" a bit more specific please? Does the phone boot up as normal?
If it just hangs on randomly when using the phone normally, it might be a ROM specific problem (not neccesary 2.2), maybe some app who can't handle 2.2 just yet, or you configured it badly (overclocking?).
As riemervdzee says, more information required.
What ROM are you trying? What radio? What CPU settings if available?
I tried SenseHero (2.1), Froyos and currently running Fusion!ROM 2.2 and they all run perfectly on my G2 Touch (Hero)
It boots up perfectly but then either reboots after random use or just freezes in the sense that i use some app or scroll through the app list or try to make a call and it simply freezes up and is unusable until i remove the battery and reboot.
I am running FROYO_2.2.1_Special_Edition_RC1_update1 and as far as i can think of i haven't configured it anything specific. Is there perhaps a way to reset every setting such as CPU setting etc that might be wonky?
Im running 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.14 Radio!
lol i love you're definition of "newer roms" when you've only used 1 rom.
first i'd recommend trying some others. i'm not saying the one you tried is bad at all but it may just not agree with your phone for some reason.
Having said that - if I were you i'd check exactly what you're wiping - it sounds to be that you haven't cleared the dalvik cache or something (i.e. you've not done a full wipe before flashing a new rom).
My new bie guide has the process for flashing a new rom (part 2 i think).
I've run a myriad of roms, im just stating that this is the one im currently running and experiencing problems with.

What exactly is the problem of running an other 2.2 ROM? It could be a ROM specific problem, which frankly occurs at your phone (egh, sometimes happens ).
If you are sure you wiped data, dalvik, cache and ext2 (if any) I really suggest you move to another ROM and see if that one works OK.
I experience exactly the same problem with every 2.1 and 2.2 ROM so i doubt its ROM specific. I've wiped everything. Im quite clueless in this case what the problem might be!
Just installed this ROM and as before, all previous Syndicate roms were amazing! But this one has a few issues id like to question. Biggest problem is when i turn my Epic off, it wont charge. It stalls at the battery loading screen. It just shows the "working icon" and doesn't go away. I have to pull the battery. Perhaps this isn't the rom, but i've never had this issue until now.
Second thing, a FC for "gapps" keeps coming up. Dunno why, never did before, perhaps a re-flash of the ROM would fix it. It's just a pain setting everything up over and over.
If anyone could help, I couldn't post this to the ROMs Specific thread because i'm a noob and havent posted 10 times yet, so here i am. Thank you in advance for all your help and knowledge.

The battery issue is an issue with CWM3.0.6... so i was told. So it isn't rom related. As for the gapps, I don't think they have made a gapps yet for this rom...
I'm sure you would find better support for your questions in the ACS thread

Roam Control
I have Flashed this ROM from supernova didn't like the battery drain so I wiped and went back to where I was before with my nandroid back up but Kernal was still stuck on twilight. I then reflashed this rom after using the samsung odin to get back to stock then the one click root from AC where you can keep data phone frooze on samsung re-odined from the ROM's OP to get CW3 and ext4. wiped 3x and flashed got a bad flash rewiped and flashed and it's finally working kind of.
I am in a place where we have no sprint 3G which is fine as @home in on wifi. Android market doesn't work unless on wifi. when off wifi it always says it looses connection or needs a connection (this never happened on any other rom I've ran before) it is way slower if I ever do get to download anything. Also other apps such as world war say I have no connection half the time as well. I used to use Roam Control from the market to get better service as I get zero in the office with sprint but now I can't even get that to work everytime I try and hit roam in the app it says to purchase from the market when I already have.
As i previously mentioned wasn't happy with the battery drain. so I have tried re downloading the zip for ROM and the new twilight fix. still losing a percent or 2 every 15-20 min seems pretty big drain compared to the supernova I was running and the midnight 4.1 before that. any help would be awesome. I wish I could put this in the ROM's thread but this is only my first post on xda. not a fan of that rule.
Re-download and reflash. Be sure to wipe 3x before doing so!

If you are having issues, then I would suggest doing EB13 + EXT4 with ODIN and then doing a fresh install. The rom has been nothing but stable for me. And if you use titanium backup or some other type of app restoration then I would suggest only restoring apps with data in only the apps you really need. Otherwise you are going to run into trouble.

Can you try a fresh uninstall and re-install of Roam Control through the market? Then just make sure you have a signal the first time you change the roaming mode. Send me an email at roamcontrol (at) gmail (dot) com with any questions. Thanks!
Ok so, using CWM, I just wiped and cleared the cache a bunch of times. Not all gapps were there. Just market and contacts. I had to install gmail, search and others. I'm not getting ANY FC's. Its smooth as butter now. Now to fix the battery lock up problem. Is there a EB13 tar with the EXT4 CWM included? I'm sure someone has done it by now. Plus, this is the first version of the 2.2 rom. It can only get better. Thanks for your help fellas.

Thanks for the info on that chat help. I talked to them a bit consensus is another odin, wipe, and flash . I've tried so many times already i'm starting to get frustrated, oh well, all part of the experience right. I just got home so we'll see with new downloads of all files I can get this baby running.
Hi guys thanks for the awesome ROM
I just wanted to mention I am having the same email issue with my IMPAP AOL account, at first I was using IMAP SSL 993, I deleted the account and readded standard IMAP 143 and I am having same problem. I know you guys are aware of the email issue, I just wanted to share this info with you.
Before I installed this ROM I used ES File Explorer to copy my Angry Birds highscores.lua file to SD card and then to my computer. After installing this ROM I installed Angry Birds and it was working fine, then I installed ES File Explorer. I copied back my highscores.lua file back to the correct directory. Angry Birds started crashing after this whenever I cleared a level. It turns out the file I copied back was not writeable, so I installed Terminal Emulator and did a chmod to the highscores.lua to make it writeable, and now it works fine.
When I was on stock EBE13 my TWS was 51% I was able to fix this by changing my Mobile network from Automatic to Sprint Only and then it went to 2%. I am using this on Boost Mobile so I dont think I can Roam anyway. On this ROM my TWS is 50%, changing to Sprint Only has no affect on this, and I tried toggeling Airplane Mode on and off and it did not seem to help.
Once again thanks for this superfast ROM

it was answered in post #2, the battery lockup is an issue with CWM 3.x.x. It was also posted numerous times in the Syndicate ROM thread. I'm getting tired of reading about it.

They know about the email issue and are working on it.
Not sure about the angry birds issue sorry.
for the TWS issue I still do the airplane mode toggle to fix that. unfortunately I think that will be necessary forever, I see you've tried it already but try from a fresh reboot right away and see if that works and also I've heard of some having to toggle a couple times before it working. after a reboot I just toggle 3 times just to be safe. I have not found a rom that solves this issue. That's weird that changing to sprint only helped I have never tried that nor heard of anyone who has. I'd give it a shot but I use roam control at work so maybe i'll see if it works this weekend when I'm not at work.
I hope it works out for you, I don't know too much but hope i helped somewhat. have a good one.
I was able to fix Echange email issue by replacing Email.apk with the file from this thread.

Is anyone else having an issue with call volume? I just made my first phone call since flashing this ROM and I could barely hear the person on the other end despite having the volume up as loud as it would go.
Is there a fix for this? If so, can someone point me to it?
ok basically i bought the phone second hand with lite'ning 1.4 on it and the wifi worked perfectly ok all the time. Since it was very old i updated it to 6.1. ever since then I have had issues with the wifi. it will connect perfectly fine to the router but i have no connectivity from it, nothing will get any net access at all. This is also not 100% of the time, its MOST of the time but not all, i do have moments where it does work fine. very very odd.
I have since tried updating the kernel to ninpho 2.1.3 from the 2.0.5 that comes with lite'ning 6.1, but that made no difference.
Someone suggested i try a wifi fix app from the market so i downloaded "FXR wifi fix and rescue" and ran that. It ran ok, wiped all my wifi settings and i restarted, but it has not solved the problem at all.
i find it very very odd since if it was a problem with the kernel OR the rom then everyone would surely have exactly the same problem. I know some people report wifi issues but most dont seem to.
anyone have any other ideas?
The odd thing is that it worked before the update. That means that it will most likely be software related.
You could try flashing something totally different like MIUI or CM. They provide kernels too, so this might resolve it, if your kernel and rom don't "like each other". This usually shouldn't happen, but updates breaking wifi shouldn't too. So it might be worth a try.

if i went to something completely different i assume i would have to factory reset the phone to wipe it first? (or factory reset it AFTER installing the new rom?)
was trying to avoid wiping it as i dont want to spend endless hours setting up everything again. i have backed it up with the free titanium but id still like to not have to find out whether the restore actually puts everything back properly
its very odd as its not completely broken, sometimes it does actually work, and it always connects to the router itself without any problem.
Probably wrong modem for you, flash another one. You can find modems in the developement section.
ok thanks I will have a look at that. It is currently on XXKH3 which is what came with lite'ning 6.1. i am confused though, all SGS2 hardware is identical so if this modem in 6.1 is causing this issue, wouldnt it affect every sgs2 that uses that modem?
I found the "shipped modem collection" post in the original development thread so have asked in there which modem i should try.
ok apparently i should try XXKI3. for o2 UK provider.
although i have now read that wifi is not managed by modem but by kernel only. if this is true then modem will not help me
Well, if the wifi is not managed by the modem, try what I proposed you earlier. The simplest would be to flash CM. Make a backup of your current rom, then do a full wipe and install CM.
As for your data:
1. Titanium backup restores your apps with their data (if you wish). That means that, for example, your games will keep their saves, other apps their settings and so on.
2. Assuming that you have a google-account, you don't have to worry about your contacts, calender,... Just sync it before you flash.
3. The backup you make in CWM will backup everything in case CM doesn't work for you.
In case it does work and you'll want to keep it, the other two other parts of your backup will minimize the remaining work. Note that you shouldn't restore "standard"-apps like the media-player or the SMS-app if titanium backup tells you that the app is not currently installed on your fresh CM. This means that CM uses it's own media player or SMS app. It could lead into problems to mix TouchWiz apps with CM.
A side-note:
Don't use the "stable" version. It had more bugs than expected and they made it a RC again. However, it is still in the stable folder. Get the latest nightly.

yep i think it is kernel. just noticed that 1.4 had cf-root, 6.1 had ninph 2.0.5 and i then tried ninph 2.1.3 and both ninph's have had the issue. i just tried speedmod k2-13 as i already had that downloaded and so far the wifi has been ok so hopefully thats it fixed. i guess it was something to do with ninph (i am thinking that because i have it set to sleep the wifi when the screen is off that somehow ninph is not handling this properly).
possibly one good thing to come of it all, ive updated the modem to KI3 which is supposedly the best one for o2 UK so i may even save more battery and speedmod is meant to be really good for battery too. I still have lite'ning on it at the moment.
i might have a look at CM anyway but i do kinda like lite'ning (although i havent actually used anything else since the phone came with it!)
also need to look at wakelocks to see if i can save some more, although not sure how i go about 'fixing' them at the moment
The choice between CM, MIUI and the stock mods is the choice between three different UI's.
I've had all three of them for some time. As you got CWM, you can just create a backup and do a sightseeing tour through the world of custom roms. Believe me, it's absolutely worth it. To get an idea of the main differences, I've written a short overview for you:
Stock mods use Samsung's TouchWiz. The default user interface that you get when buying a Samsung Android phone. So it mostly looks and "feels" the same and you can't do much about it.
CyanogenMod gives you the pure Android user interface. It's the closest to the Nexus phones by google, but gives you some extras. It is much more customizable than stock roms. It's sleek and fast.
MIUI is a whole different story. They're "Redefining Android". I think calling MIUI an "Android custom rom" is an understatement. It's an entire OS. The result of putting the best from iOS and Android into one powerful OS. It adds tons of useful(!) features. If you've ever used Windows Phone 7 or an iPhone, you know what a big step forwards Android is when it comes to features. Switching from Android to MIUI is just like that. There is just so much more. It is BY FAR the most customizable Android you can get.
Wow. If I look at how long the texts are, I see that I'm pretty biased. :O
Well maybe because I've switched so often between them. The stock roms had no chance, because after I used one of the others I found out that TouchWiz doesn't cut it anymore. I hate how "iPhone-ish" MIUI is, but if I flash CyanogenMod I just miss so much. Giving you a list of what MIUI adds would be another long post of this length.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
cool thanks will have a look at MIUI at some point.
spoke too soon earlier, the wifi is maybe slightly better on this speedmod kernel BUT when i wake the phone from sleep, it takes about 30 seconds before i can connect to the net with anything. the phone connects to the wifi straight away, but i have no connectivity for a good 30 seconds and then it starts working. (its not the router, i am getting a connection and an IP pretty much as soon as i wake the phone). also the 30 seconds or so only STARTS once i try to connect to something. if i wake the phone and do something that does not want net access for a few mins and THEN try to get on the net via wifi (which shows as connected the entire time) then again i have to wait about 30 seconds from when it first tries to connect before it will start working.
ok slightly confused again.
I have lite'ning 6.1, speedmod k2-13 kernel and XXKI3 modem. I am trying to get cwm installed so i can make a full backup image of the entire phone while i try to sort out the wifi issues. i downloaded rom manager from market, and selected the firstion option in the app 'flash clockworkmod recovery'. it brings up a menu saying 'confirm phone model' with AT&T galaxy S2, a coulpe of i9000s and a plain "Samsung Galaxy S2" which is the one i selected. it downloads something and says successfully downloaded clockwork mod recovery.
i then choose reboot into recovery. when rebooting it attemps to install something but then says "failed to verify whole-file signature" and aborts. so im just stuck with the standard recovery instead.
so now im confused, have i missed something?
Ehhhhm, you don't need to do it.
Have a look at the features of the speed-mod-kernel:
Current features:
Root and CWM:
- Automatically installs root (su)
- CWM 4.0.1.5 recovery
It already installs it right away.
Just in case you messed something up. You should flash the kernel again.
Besides that you don't need the RomManager at all. Just shut your phone down and boot into the recovery with the key-combo. Create and restore backups from there.

Updated to official 2.3.5 rooted, added back the pink screen, not done much else except installed a few apps.
Getting random reboots while phone is sleeping. Never happens while actively using phone. My phone will be on my desk and next thing I know it restarts.
Anybody else have this problem or found a solution?
I need to find out if it is the rom or something else causing the problem so I can start to troubleshoot it.

Turn OFF wifi when you're not using the phone. problem solved
If not work try this :
Goto CPU menu -> smartass v2 and make low and high cpu speed settings to 1 ghz.
This will also increase Battery life and must fix random rebooting.
Other way is clear caches and install rom again.
Loureiro:
I'll try turning off the wifi. It sounds like a highly likely solution since: 1) I've only seen my phone at home 2) I always turn wifi on at home.
Is there a specific reason why wifi is causing reboots? Maybe something I can find a fix for?
technogod:
Don't have custom kernal installed, so I can't alter the CPU parameters. Wanted to make sure the phone was stable at stock before changing the kernal.
Speaking of which, what's the most stable kernal for overclocking the 2.3 stock rom?
I'll try clearing the caches as well.
Thanks.
The wifi bug is known fault with the .35 kernel found in the official upgrade. hopefully it will be fixed next week fingers and toes crossed. I am not sure if any of the kernel dev's have found a fix yet.
Without cpu parameters, only way i am found that : clear three caches with clockwork and reinstall your rom. It's working on stock roms or custom roms. I think, this is not rom problem. There is different something. Cache clearing solves problem. Resetting problem started on my phone when i start to try other roms.
I am using miui 2.2.3 now and i will setup 2.2.10 version today. While using stock rom, i have some resetting problem. But now, my phone working without self-reset.
