So I know there have been tons of threads regarding light bleed in the Transformer but what I'm wondering is if the issue has gotten any better with the newer units. My 45 day return window at Best Buy is coming up and I'm trying to decide what to do. I have some light bleeding on the bottom right of my unit, but it only really bothers me in dark rooms. However since my wife tries not to use lights very much in our house, most rooms are dark. I haven't had any other issues, and I would only consider exchanging it if I knew that the newer ones have gotten better on this front. I got mine in mid May and I assume they've had numerous shipments since then. Have the new models gotten any better on the defect front?
I just bought one yesterday and I am taking it back today. Mine has some separation between the glass and bezel as if it were dropped in shipping or something. I also notice very minor light bleed only at the bottom about middle area so I would say that most likely this issue hasn't been resolved but I am afraid the new one I get tonight will be worse.
I will post up tonight when i get the new one and let you know if it has any bleed....most likely it will. Even the display models at 2 different Best Buys has it. I got mine from Office Depot so that is three different stores all with light bleed issues.
I got mine last month from Best Buy online and it's fine. No bleeding, no creaking, no problems of any kind (except the occasional PEBKAC issue )
I have no problems as ofyet

So it's still a crap-shoot?
Just got mine from NewEgg for $389/fs. So far, no issues. It's a black-sealed, Serial# B60 model. I can't detect any light-bleed, no creaks/cracks. Only had it a few minutes, but all seems well. It was packaged very well from NE with peanuts in a large box. I can't detect issues with the speakers either.
It had Android 3.1 preinstalled.
Also, it has all my phone (EVO) apps installed within minutes ... not sure if that's new to Google or something, but never had that before. It did it automatically when I signed in to Google.

what was the serial number of yours...b6?
Bought mine in Singapore last week, no problems whatsoever. Is from the recent manufactured batch, B60K serial, TW firmware. Love it, no regrets!
Bought mine Saturday at Compusa , went B&M in case I had to take it back. i have a slight amount of light bleed at the bottom middle right. Not sure if I'll take it back, it doesn't really bother me, but I did just pay for a new product so it should be perfect right?
I returned my first one due to a dead pixel and minor light bleed in the bottom middle of the screen. I just got my new one in yesterday and I can not find a single issue with it. Serial number b60.

Yes the one I got yesterday was a serial b6. The one I got today is a b5.
They both have\had very slight light bleed (at the bottom) but I think I can deal with it.
This new b5 is a little worse than the b6 but almost not so much to really even bring it up, but I will. So I would say that it is a crap shoot which sucks. I turned it on at the store but it wasn't dark enough to see the problem. I have seen some that are very bad that I couldn't live with but both I have had I could/will live with; unless they get worse over time.

I would normally agree with your logic about it being perfect, but with these IPS screens it's very hard to totally do away with the light bleed. Even the iPad2, as much as Apple praises their build quality, has light bleed. Mine did and so did my wife's.
Hell, my 46" Samsung LCD has some light bleed in the corners (we refer to them as "flashights").
I think if you get a TF with minimal light bleed, mine is very small at the bottom, you are doing well.
So mine is a B40K series. It sounds like if I can find a B60K series it might be worth it to exchange?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I am going to take my in for a replacement @ Fry's tomorrow as well! If I call ahead of time...will they tell me if they have a B60 in stock? =/ Seems like there are more success stories with the B60...I have light bleeding out all over the bottom...and on the left.
Some people doesn't seem to know what light bleeding is, so i will not believe anyone saying their TF is just perfect without seeing actual pictures of the screen, in max brightness and low light.
That happend on other forums a lot, and after explanations a lot of them admitted that they were wrong.
Same thing with unbalanced speakers, creaking, screen responsiveness etc.
Or... maybe not all of you there are as perfectionists as some of us are, and that's fine. But don't make us envy your perfect products.
Mine (B5) also has one light bleeding spot on the middle bottom (about an inch from the edge) and the screen responsiveness isn't as great s on SGS II or iPad2 (or maybe it's Honeycomb's fault), bothers me a little, but overall I am happy with my Transformer. It's making my life easier a lot on four aspects: saving my laptop (on which i spent a lot and doesn't deserve to be stressed sometimes all day long just for browsing; I am saving it for real work and there are days now when i don't use it at all; also, TF is way better than my wife's iPad 2 on this reason), my smartphone (who's battery now last for 2 full days because of transferring the light browsing, reading and media consuming in bed to the Transformer), my injured back (from using the laptop at desk all day) and my eyes (beacuse of the reason no. 2, with the smartphone replacement for some stuff).
LE: Conclusion: Stop complaining or bragging about it, and just make it worth it's money using it.
Has anyone yet commented the speaker balance in the B60K batch? More experience sharing on the light bleeding wll be appreciated too.
My B50K has passed its refund windows, but I could sell and buy a new B60K, and lose about $100. I need more info to decide...

I havew a B50K and it's perfect. Thinking you will be getting $100 worth of something additional with a B60K is just insane.
i'm hoping they've worked out the creakiness in B60...my B40 was really bad.

Said perfectly. I've had a B40, a B50, and 2 B60s. ALL had light bleed to various degrees.
The B60s seem a lot better but they still have light bleed. While I don't doubt there may be a few transformers out there with no light bleed, I'm definitely skeptical of the claim that someone has a transformer with no light bleed whatsoever.
I do a lot of reading on my device and I like to read with white text on a black background so light bleed shows up immediately. The light bleed on the B60 I am keeping is minimal enough that it doesn't bother me even in this condition.
Funny how all the surveys showed most wanted the blue...but now this. LOL
I have the Galaxy S III in Pebble Blue
I love the phone. Period. And it is beautiful
It is much more blue in person and less like that gradient stuff of the One as
However it is a fingerprint magnet. I know a case may fix that but I believe I want the white one. 16gb is fine. The phone comes to Baltimore next Wed
(If anyone wants this PM me. I can deal but need enough to pay off Value Plan)
Advice:
If you really didn't like the prints and think you wanted white
Would you:
1. Do nothing. The case will fix that and the blue part above and belowbthe screen will look fine
2. Get Phantom Skins on the back from the mall and that will take care of the prints
3. Would you return it now if there was any fear of being stuck with this too long before the white one is around
(Does anyone know where or when the white one is available)
Thank You So Much
Eric

I saw it in an article "july 11th" but all the reps at t-mobile store kept telling everyone august...lol i think they were just trying not to lose the sale, but then again with everything getting delayed maybe they're right...
Today i've change my white for a blue.
White is cute but i prefer blue.
Personal taste.
Thank You
Where did you get your white.
The blue, I must say, looks much better in person...but as the reviews say it is more of a fingerprint magnet...do you agree, having seen both
Would you return and wait for the white, OR would you get the unlock code and sell and then buy the white...would I make more money
I know a lot of my Androids I would get 350-500, but I clearly need the $280 spent plus the $400 payoff balance for the Value plan
So would I make $680 plus for a new (I suppose one day I could say new) unlocked 16gb blue GS3? I do believe I see much higher prices
Thanks Again
I own the Blue S3 and have played with the White S3. I personally think the White S3 is the better looking of the two. But I buy black electronics and pretty much everything matches.
I'm annoyed that Samsung just didn't do a black phone and thus forced me to wait two weeks for the replacement cover Blue S3s to come into stock. A few times where I was tempted to get the White one.
Thanks
Skellig..
So you have the blue? What do you mean replacement cover. You mean like case? YOu are waiting for a black case to match your electronics
As I said, the blue to me holds more fingerprints, and I could wait on my cases I ordered, but I wouldnt want my blue showing on the front if that isn't the color I wanted. I don't like how they didnt' make the whole front all black like the GN or GS2
Did you see my question about selling unlocked
I suppose it may take a week as usual, but buying yesterday I could still say new ... or new other right
And the phone unlocked for Tmo or ATT Bundled with 2 wall chargers andd sets of 2 spare batteries, I could ask $750 couldn't I. I looked on ebay
I need to make the 680 to cover my cost plus the 20 months of value plan payments I have to pay off. That along with the buy it now ebay fee wouldn't allow me to make much, so it prolly easier to simply return and wait for white, huh? ...and leave the unlocking and selling to when I really want a new phone
You are really going to trade it because of fingerprints?
You can wipe them off it and wash your hands once in a while and it wont be a problem.

I would say, 'you're funny.' I could say that is not the reason.
But to be honest, it is part. Just the feel more than the prints itself.
I, like many I read, wish they kept the rough backnof the GS2 or GN
I think we all have idiosyncrasies about our electronics
In fact one guy in a thread questioned why all worry about color. Needless tkbsaybseveral replied to him in various ways.
But overall. I like the white.
Thanks. And any other suggestions as to what to do with this and where to get the white quickest would be great

LOL. Couldn't help but laugh a bit.
Some of us are just naturally greasy people. I wash my hands constantly(germ-a-phobe) but still grease up anything shinny. My roommate hates when I mess when his phone lol.
Blue is better
I bought the white version coz the blue wasn't available yet. It was fine but deep in side i wanted the blue!
A friend of mine had the blue but wanted the white so i traded mine with his and everyone were happy!!
The blue is more sexy, light from capacitive buttons and LED notification is more solid. U say the blue is a fingerprint magnet but u could easily clean it but the white easily stains from cases and use.
IMO stick to urs!!
I have both blue and white, use the blue because the white looks way too childish when outside, the sun makes the plastic shine like a toy.. blue handles it better and I don't see any fingerprints on mine tbf .. maybe it just doesn't bother me that much)

Hi, apologies as I know not everybody in the world would have been aware of the delay of the UK release. The Galaxy S3 Blue version was delayed due to the back battery cover having poor coatings and blotches. Whole shipments had to be recalled and replaced. It took me two weeks after the expected launch of the S3 to get my phone (although I could have switched to the white version within a week). If Samsung just stuck with plain black, then they didn't have to worry about sub-par quality of Pebble Blue paint. And I would not have to settle for the Pebble Blue.
I wrote my own impressions of the S3 with plenty of pictures if you're interested:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27372648#post27372648
I currently have a case for my phone and a screen protector.
I'm afraid I don't know much about the US price plans concerning the S3. I bought mine outright/unlocked in the UK because I'm moving to Hong Kong for a year. If I weren't I would have gone with a 2 year contract. Especially a recent deal for Groupon £19/month for Unlimited Data, 5000 mins and 5000 texts.
The blue looks purple under certain lighting conditions.. And not a nice purple.. My only qualm with the phone. Otherwise it is the best phone I have ever owned. Make that the best device / gadget I have owned..

Bought blue - still laughing about the purple home button - case on the back, so don't see the reflection of my neighbours.
Ignore it as I'm not a woman, with pink nails, and thus enjoy the phone for what it is - couldn't care for the looks as much as some do.
I actually really like my white one.
I prefer the white as well. I would buy black if they had one, but the blue/cobalt/purple isn't my thing.
Tapped That
blue rocks! i bought white 3 months ago and now my heart burns everytime i see a blue s3 lol
i am ordering a blue battery cover for my white s3!
I have marble and pebble... Marble makes iphone fanboys go crazy jealous and want to sell their iphone in a second and take GS3. The pebble one is just not that attractive like a semi popular smartphone with a great potential to get his light of the day .
For those who have the Samsung Galaxy III or planning to pick one up when it comes out, what is one CON about the SG3 that would make you NOT want to buy the GS3 or return it to the stores and wait or exchange for a different phone?

Had it just over 2 days now, can't can't really find anything that would make me not want to buy it. If anything, and can be argued, the strength of the screen. Though again, I still bought it, so no real cons from me.
I think my only real concern would be future updates. But that's about it for me.

Strength of the screen? Huh?
It looks like a piece of jewelry the glass of the screen. Kinda like One X international or ATT.
I'm actually surprised but this samoled HD is actually better than the one GN in terms of pixelation (less pixelation here). But there's a noticeable black color contrast issue compared to, say, Epic Touch black contrast - the blacks were completely black on ET, whereas with this screen, they aren't quite as black.

Its all about personal taste and the phone you are planning to replace. If your current phone is better than the GS3, then stick with it.
I don't have mine yet but the deal breaker for me is the email client ..see how well it works with exchange server and the user experience. Not sure I like black background and white text in the email client either? I am a heavy corporate mail user...
I'm only issue is not having lte in my area yet but hopefully it won't be long
after using it for the past 3 days, the only gripe I have is how fragile it feels. I couldnt see this thing functioning properly after a few falls of 3 ft or more

I had a hard time choosing this phone over the EVO LTE. I picked it because I thought it would have better developer support than the EVO LTE since I saw a lot of OG EVO devs jump ship to SGSIII.
However, the screen is much dimmer than the EVO's. It was way harder to see in sunlight compared to the EVO. It also feels a bit more slippery and fragile, and lacks HD Voice and a kickstand compared to EVO LTE. Still, it is a very top notch phone.
No deal breaker for Me
I love this thing .
Fast great Battery and Sammy dropped the source.

Hopefully mine gets shipped this week (order the 32GB), but my biggest concerns at this point are: camera quality, screen pixelation, Wi-Fi/data/voice signal strength. The last one is my biggest concern- I've never had an Android Samsung phone that has performed well in this area from the Moment--> Epic --> NS4G, they've all had very poor reception. If the GS3 is plagued with this same issue I will swap it for the EVOLTE or await a new phone purchase until the fall/winter.
This phone is no more fragile than the S2 was. Put it in some kind of case (TPU for me) and you're fine.
E-Mail client works excellent with Exchange. I get 20-50 emails a day and have had no problem, Setup was a breeze.
Reception on this phone is identical to the dbm levels I had on the EVO LTE. WIFI is far superior as it actually connects and doesn't hang up all the time when loading. GPS is nearly instantaneous, even indoors.
As far as the screen goes...the EVO at max was way to bright for my eyes, even in bright daylight. For me anyway, the S3 screen turned up is just right outdoors....course I don't purposely try and stand in screaming bright daylight just to try it out and worry myself over it. There is no pixelation I can see, unlike the Motorola Pentile screens which drove me nuts.
I far prefer the colors and contrast of the S3 screen to that of the EVO. I honestly see know signs of the dreaded Pentile effects and even reading text on the internet it is sharp as can be. By the way...reading text for my eyes is much easier on this phone as the text is darker due to the black levels vs the grayish text on the EVO LTE.
This shape phone fits my hands perfetly whereas the EVO with the full rectangle and square corners was a bit to industrial and not comfortable in my hand.
Lastly, if the "plastic / polycarbonate" body of the S2 with a TPU on it was any indication of the resiliency of this phone considering the number of times I dropped the S2, I haven't even the slightest worry unless it falls glass down on a rock. If you drop any of these and it lands on the corner without some kind of shock absorbing case, you are pretty much screwed.
the only thing really bugging me is that Sprint's 3G is impossibly slow. my Galaxy S II was a great phone and still had WiMax.
by the time Sprint rolls out LTE in the LA area (end of the year at the earliest) there will likely be a newer, better phone.
the SGS III is AMAZING! screen is beautiful, it feels great in the hand, it is FAST and on WiFi is a phone I wouldn't trade for anything out there. the problem comes when you are not within range of wifi.
that's not this phones fault and is not a defect of the phone just unfortunate timing that I will have to wait about 6 months to use it on a high speed mobile network.
WiMax is no where near as fast as LTE but it is way way faster than Sprints 3G.
I have 28 more days to decide how much this bugs me and how likely it is that there will be a better Android phone available when Sprint finally flips the switch on LTE.

Unfortunately this isn't necessarily an indication of improvement on Samsung's part because the HTC One X series has been reported to have low quality/weak reception. The Samsung radios didn't improve to be as good as those in HTC but quite the opposite, HTC's are now as bad as Samsung's. This would be the reason that I would not get the EVOLTE instead and would rather wait til fall/winter. Bottom line though, if it proves to be a non-issue then I will keep the phone.

Signal strength seems to be passable, but there is definitely pixelation on the screen. You don't even need good eyesight to notice it on white pages. It's a little jarring for me compared to the EVO LTE's screen but it's not a dealbreaker.
GPS was also my biggest gripe with Samsung, being that me & wife road trip a lot. The GPS is outstanding for me on the GS3. I couldn't be happier.

Damn, dropsy. You need to tether your phone to your wrist!
I just wanted to share my experience with anyone who's on the fence with a last minute newegg.com order.
I ordered from them on 12/31/2013 and just received my tablet today. After their $50 instant discount and $20-off promo code (that expires tonight btw), I shelled out $279.99. I've been able to spend a few hours with it and my initial thoughts are very positive. I did receive an open box and annoyingly, there were some dust particles on the device, but that's where my annoyance ends. Aside from the unit being very slick and quick, I'm not having the issues that others have mentioned.
The white are fairly white - I even compared against my Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display. Its obviously not as white, but its not bad at all. I can see how some would complain about brightness for outside use, but I find it to be very pleasing. 100% is bright enough to hurt my eyes in a room lit with a 60 watt bulb. I find that 80% is great for me in most places in the house. I usually keep my Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display ~90% for comfortable, indoors use. I do not have any light bleeding or lighting inconsistencies anywhere on the screen that I can notice (I tested this with a variety of backgrounds). Overall, I am very pleased with design, especially after reading about the concerns that others had.
Just got mine tonight also (same deal$) couldn't be happier. The only thing that sucked was the shipping delay from there end of the year inventory. I got white, box wasn't sealed and no screen scratches.

Will let you guys know mine comes in tomorrow.
TC here. Wanted to update 1 thing. Before my purchase, I heard that the camera was not that great. This did not bother me as I have a DSLR for taking HQ pics, but I'd like to note that the camera is... stunningly bad - Very grainy and inconsistent light capture. Like, on par with the quality of my first smart phone's camera 3 generations (5-6 years) ago. I was trying to take pics of some things for my Ebay store and ended up just using my Samsung S3 phone which takes way better pictures, and that's saying a lot. Like I mentioned, it doesn't really bother me at all, but if a camera is a selling point for you, you might want to consider the Galaxy Note 8 or something else.
quick story:
I bought the black nexus 9 16GB on release date at best buy. upon unboxing it, i was a bit disappointed. the build quality was pretty weak. right away i noticed that there was a click on the back, right above the HTC logo. you can press upon it, it felt a bit hollow. anyhow i tried to look pass it because I'm a really big nexus fan. next i noticed the weak volume and power buttons. there were very flush and very hard to find and press. most of the time i would accidentally power off the display trying to raise the volume. i again tried to look pass it, and actually used it for a full week. the final stray came when, after a week's use and after downloading all my apps I looked at the available storage and there were only 3gb left. No way, i just couldn't do it. with no expandable storage this was just a deal breaker. i immediately returned it to best buy. I wanted to give it another shot because i really enjoyed the screen size and front facing speakers of the nexus 9. So I bought the white nexus 9 32GB off of amazon with next day delivery.
the White nexus 9 was way better. And I mean WAYYYYY better. the volume and power button stick out more, more tactile, and have an audible click. the back feels much more solid and there is no click or give anywhere on the back. the Metal band that goes around the nexus actually looks and feels metal, something that i totally forgot and looked passed on the black version.
Conclusion: if you are going to get a nexus 9 get the WHITE 32GB version. i consider myself a minimalist but the black version just looks too bland. Ive seen the BUTTON ISSUE on the black display model at best buy. maybe the change in materials is actually causing some issues.
hope this helps anyone looking for a nexus 9. I also want to know if anyone is experiencing some issues with the white model
I too have the 32GB White Nexus 9 and it's a rock solid piece of equipment. The build quality is excellent including screen, white case back, and buttons. The white case makes the whole thing look sexy.
Merrell
Ditto for me. But just learned no mircast, hugh bummer for work
I just bought a white one, thanks for your post.
I have the black 32gb version and I don't have any of those issues. Maybe I got lucky that mine was on back order. Must have gotten one from a newer/improved batch?
Thanks for this post Rafaeli11. I ordered the white Nexus 9 on Friday and it's being delivered tomorrow. Since ordering it I've read so many negative comments that's I've almost canceled my order and just got an iPad instead. I have noticed, however that the people having problems all seem to be using the black version. After reading your post I'm a little less anxious about the build quality my Nexus 9 may have. I've read on a few different sites now that the back of the white version is more solid.
Thanks again.

I have noticed, however that the people having problems all seem to be using the black version. After reading your post I'm a little less anxious about the build quality my Nexus 9 may have. I've read on a few different sites now that the back of the white version is more solid.
Thanks again.

Unfortunately that's what I did. After reading all the negative reviews on here I went and spent the money I had saved for the nexus 9 on an iPad Air 2. It was not all that!! The sound distorts and vibrates and on a certain area of the screen just a normal light touch caused a wavy effect (just like if you press really hard on a LCD screen). This also happened when you hold the tablet in a certain way. Luckily I managed to get a full refund and will now get the Nexus 9. We all learn from our mistakes!!!!

I owned an iPad Air last year and whilst it was great in build quality and had great battery life, it bored the life out of me. I ended up dropping it anyway. I then purchased a Nexus 7 2013 just to tide me over until the Nexus 9 came out. I just hope there's nothing wrong with mine when it arrives tomorrow, I'll be really disappointed if it's got the issues some people are suffering. I had a bad experience with my Nexus 5, I had to RMA it 3 times. If my Nexus 9 is all good tomorrow I'll be over the moon.

I purchased the Black version on release day and was incredibly shocked at how bad the build was. The back popped and I also had major light bleed. So I returned it and ordered a white one to see if it by chance could be any better. I can say that the white version seems better all the way around. No popping on the back and minimal light bleed. I can say I'm very happy and would say this tops all android tablets out there and I have owned at least 10 to 15 of them.
Can anyone confirm if this popping back issue has been fixed in new batch or is it still there in black version? I guess I will get mine replaced if it is. I guess choosing white version would be easy fix but it is not available in Finland Play store.

Sorry I was confused by the wording. It was not clear that you meant the N9 in the end and meant to type ipad. I guess it reads that you returned the N9 for the ipad and returned the ipad for the N9. So cool
I have the white 16 GB version and can't see any defects on it the build quality is like my wife's ipad air it feels solid and battery life is amazing almost 4 days Jo charge on par with ipad battery life os maybe the black one does have bit different materials??
I too bought the white mainly for one reason - fingerprints. I already have experience with the N5 and N7 which I ended up getting skins for. with the white it shows up much less.
Got the bonus of it having great build quality. very happy with my decision.
And my wallet and I are back on speaking terms!
Also bought the White (32GB) and have no issues with the back popping. It feels solid.
Light bleed exist but is very minimal in a couple of corners. When watching letter-boxed videos, I don't even notice.
Add another one here.
I bought the black one the first day it came out. NFC didnt work, the back cover clicks, the tablet was laggy (older firmware). Returned it to Best Buy and got the white version. Wow, what a difference. I have none of the problems above.
I believe these are all in people's luck.
My black version is solid, with really really "good" (comparatively), lightbleed. No flexing and no back cover clicking, plus no #gapgate.
I don't think the white is constructed with better QC than its black brothers.
Assuming all units are the same, and each has a 50% chance of a bad turnout.
Your next N9 could simply have struck luck and got a good unit, regardless of black or white.
Show the black one some looooooove! It's feeling left out!
I bought my N9 32gb black the day after release. It's pretty solid in build quality with no clicking and minimal light bleed (a lot less than other devices I have). Everything appears to work. I'm very happy with it.
