My touch hd is constantly connecting to internet. If I switch data connection off a second later it is connected again. My internet is free but if I travel abroad they charge me a lot of money for that. Anyone knows what to do? Is it common problem? Michael
Sounds like you've been into an advanced config utility and set the phone to automatically start a data connection, or you have a app running which uses a a data connection (IM or similar)
i had the same problem once or twice ..over period of time ..!
(i also agree with above, handsomedog ,statement )
what i did was one of two things .... ..went to..
"my device..windows\startup "..and checked which applications is listed
to start up and ..delete the " relevant appl." if found in startup folder (..... .ink )or go to that application and configure it ...to connect to internet.. manually( if application has that option )
otherwise, i checked my task manager /processes( use a good task manager eg.. Fdc task manager..to see and kill relevant process )
close and soft reboot
(with above method, i have always traced the culprit ,and sorted
relevant problem out )
try it if you want to, it might work for you !
good luck ,
willcor
Thank you it helped a lot... no more problems

Does anyone have a list of what all the default services do, and what ones are safe to disable. And at that, is it worth disabling services to free up ram or does it even make a difference?

I am using Dotfred's Task Manager. I'm sure he is on XDA, but his home website is:
http://www.dotfred.net/
I have a list of a couple things but I havn't tried them all I just found them somewhere else. I will put an * infront of ones that seem to be working on my system Mougle WM 6.1. I couldn't try all the keys because the weren't on my system or I need the services they provided. My RAM has increased my about 5MG I was starting at 19MG and getting as low as 2 or 3 through the day. Now I start at over 20 and I get as low as 15 normally.
*STOP ACTIVE SYNC FROM AUTO STARTING
1. DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL MEMMAID
2. GO TO "NOTIFICATIONS" TAB
3. LOOK IN THE LOWER SECTION AND THERE ARE 3 "REPLLOG" FILES (ACTIVESYNC)
4. ONE OF THEM WILL SAY "APPRUNAFTERTIMECHANGE" WHEN HIGHLIGHTED
5. DELETE THAT ONE (THE OPTION AT THE LOWER RIGHT SIDE WILL RESTORE IT ANYTIME YOU WANT)
DONE, ACTIVESYNC WON'T AUTOSTART WITH NETWORK SYNC AND YOUR NETWORK SYNC IS STILL ACTIVE.
I DID THESE FOLLOWING TWEAKS
1. WINDOWS LIVE=SELF EXPLANATORY
2. SQMUPLOAD=CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
3. OBEX(MOST OF YOU WHO HAVE BLUETOOTH DONGLES PROBABLY WON'T WANT TO DISABLE THIS)
4. DPT / DTPT (GOOGLE SEARCHING INDICATES THAT THIS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SOME SORT OF DHCP ACTIVITY (KILLS INTERNET SHARING)
5. BTHIDSVC(MY BLUETOOTH HEADSET WORKS FINE WITH THIS MISSING, I'M NOT SURE IF ANY OTHER BLUETOOTH OPERATIONS ARE AFFECTED, AS I DON'T HAVE A BLUETOOTH DONGLE FOR MY COMPUER)
*6. SMSRETRY = THIS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR AUTOMATICALLY TRYING TO SEND MESSAGES IF YOU'RE OUT OF SERVICE OR ROAMING.
FROM HKLM\INIT I'VE DISABLED...
*1. PLAYSILENCE.EXE
2. UPTIMESQM.EXE(CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE)
*3. TIMEWIZARD.EXE / TIME SYNC (GOOGLING HAS SHOWN THIS TO KEEP THE TIME RIGHT AFTER A COLD BOOT[TAKING THE BATTERY OUT], HOWEVER, MY TIME SYNCS WITH SPRINT'S SERVERS)
Let me know if you come up with anything else.
Alright, I have been trying to get Modaco's Nodata CAB to work on my Wizard, but everytime I try it, it just gives me an error and doesn't work (it installs fine, but it won't work).
So, I'm looking for a fix... I don't have a data plan, and all I want to use the phone for are calls, SMS, and Wifi... anyone know a sure fire way to disable the data connection? (other than calling my provider)
Also, I posted this in another thread, but would the Comm Manager in my ROM work to disable data connections? It currently says that data connections are "off"... but I don't want to take the chance of it automatically turning on. But if the Comm Manager is actually capable of keeping the data connection off, then that should work for me, right? (the ROM that I am using is this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395173)
Thanks, and let me know if I need to provide more info or whatever. I just really need to try to avoid those kind of extra charges if I can.
You should just be able to put your phone in flight mode from your today screen with two taps. Tap your signal strength icon and then tap "Turn on flight mode."
As far as NoData is concerned: Is there anything else you've installed that might have similar functionality which could be conflicting with NoData? Also, the ROM you flashed is pretty bare. Are you sure your symptoms aren't from that ROM? I'd ask on that guy's thread, if I were you...
The only other thing I'd suggest is turning off automatic email downloads, and anything else you've installed that updates itself automatically (weather programs are NOTORIOUS for this, but any program is a potential suspect, so check them all). Just the email download is hitting the network a minimum of once every 60 minutes. Even without getting email, that's close to 2MB per month. That can add up to some hefty bill, especially while roaming.

Thanks for your reply. The Comm Manager has a button to turn on/off flight mode, so I should be able to do that pretty easily (I can reach the COMM Manager in 2 taps as well). It also has one to turn on/off Wifi, Bluetooth, Cellular Radio, and Data Connection (maybe one more, but I can't remember it at the moment... my Wizard is at home). My question concerning the Comm Manager is whether or not keeping the Data Connection setting "off" will act as a "disabler" (meaning, if I keep it off, it won't come on automatically or anything at any time unless I turn it on). If it truly does work like that all the time, then I should be set... I just don't know if it does or not.
The ROM is pretty bare, but I don't think I've downloaded anything that would conflict with NoData. The only CAB files I've put on there are SPB Mobile Shell 2.1, PCM Keyboard, TCPMP Player, Total Commander, and BatteryStatus. I know Mobile Shell has the Weather program, but so far it has only updated itself when I have synced it to my PC. I haven't set up my email yet, but I would definitely turn off automatic email downloads no matter what.
So basically, it all kind of depends on whether the "Data Connection" tab in my Comm Manager is capable of actually stopping my phone from connecting to the data network when I have it set to off. Or if there's a way to fix the NoData CAB, then that should work too. But if anyone knows any other options/solutions (again, other than calling AT&T and having them block all data... which I can do, but I'd rather just do it myself), please let me know.
It should work. I can't speak to the specifics of your ROM, so if it doesn't work, you'll have to take that up with the cook, not me.
You can easily test this, though. In the comm manager, turn off the phone radio. Then try to open your web browser, and surf to something (it caches the home page, so that's going to show up anyways...). If you get out, then the phone is accessing the network after you "turned it off."
Also did you see the note from the developer's post on MoDaCo.com?
Note that if you get bizarre registry errors on toggling, you need to app unlock your device (e.g. with SDA Application Unlocker).

Yeah, I guess I just skimmed over that note at Modaco.com... but anyway, I tried it (using the SDA Application Unlock tool, which worked successfully) to no avail. The same error came up while trying to run the NoData CAB (I reinstalled it). The error reads:

I still haven't tried your suggestion with the Comm Manager yet (kind of waiting for a response in that other thread first)... but it looks like the NoData CAB isn't going to work unless someone knows how to fix whatever the error message is saying.

Since I don't think NoData is being actively developed any more, you're probably SOL for a repair/update from them...
Try this: delete both NoData and the App Unlocker. Install the App Unlocker again, then install NoData. The installation may have been fouled by the Wizard because app loading wasn't unlocked at the time.
you ALWAYS get error, when GPRS/etc settings are not SET.
this program is A MUST, and it is working FINE.
I think what nothin is trying to say in his (her?) exceptionally charming way, is that if you had done a Google search for your error and clicked on the very first link, some reading would reveal your problem.
While it could have been done without the e-screaming, nothin does have a point about doing a thorough search for solutions before posting.
Haha, it's fine, I probably need to have some sense knocked in to me once in a while. Thanks for all of your help though... I guess I just don't need the NoData CAB to avoid data plan charges. At least that is what it is looking like. But thanks again. And this thread can be closed or whatever.
I have some processes tmail, opera9, etc that I manally stop every time I use the phone.
( Via task manager )
I have looked and serched all around the forum and cant find anythimg bar blating the phone with a new rom
I stop these processes and save about 10-15MB ... any one have any ideas? or software to use to kill them for good?
1. Have a look in the windows\strartup folder and see what's in it. FI poutlook, etc. Delete whatever you do not want to startup "on its own".
2. Give Memmaid a try (not freeware). It shows you running processes and enables you to terminate/kill them, although not forever.

ram
Yup looked in start up folder.. does not contain opera9, etc , there is the poutlook in there but I dont want to stop that .
with the task manager programe yuou can also terminate procceess, and it's freeware ..
any one got any ideas? of how to stop things loading at start up?
is there like an msconfig option / app for the phone?
After searching both here and on google I have not found anything so I'm hoping some of you may be able to help me out with two minor annoyances.
I have noticed that several applications can run without showing up in the task manger (both dutty and the regular one).
Is there a way to see and/or close these applications?
I have WorldMate installed and even though I have disabled auto updates it still connects. So my second question is this:
Is there a way to see what applications are using a data connection (preferably the exact executable)?
Thanks in advance!
I think the standard HTC one (included with the phone) is able to shut down more, but l'm not sure about your problems.
If you have a search through the apps section then i think I've seen something in there that tells you what is using your data (data monitor of some sort?)
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Owen.
in standard task manager click menu view processes to see lots more of what is running.
Hi all
I am new to Android.
I recently converted my hTC HD2 from Windows to Anadroid NAND. The funny part is regardless which version I use Like [BOYPPC, MIUI, CyanogenMod7 or Ultimate Droid] I can't see my Widgets after I install them. They are in the installed apps menu but not under Widgets menus.
To add more problems, whenever I start up the wireless, it connects and obtains an IP, but there is no Internet. So I installed proxy and now I have Internet. But another problem rises is that the web browser will not allow me to access SSL web pages like gmail or Android Market. Data Connectivity problem: A secure connection could not be established.
So basically the Android HD2 has been reduced to a phone function only with some few apps I can install from web. Some apps I can't download from web cuz it require Adroid market (secure connection could not be established).
I wonder do all Android NAND's exhibit this behavior or is there a workaround to the two problems I have?
What radio version do you have on your phone right now?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using XDA App
Radio 2.15
MAGLDR 1.13
Move all widgets to internal storage, otherwise they won't work. And also, no, not a single Android ROM has these as known problems as far as I know, your other problems are due to something else
Agree^
If you are trying to "install" the widgets they will not be seen by the system. I am guessing you have a compolation of widgets that you have aquired over time.
To expand a bit more on the previous post I would advise first un-installing all the widgets you tried installing then copying the widgets to your "/system/app" folder using some file explorer program then restart your phone. I would also advise just to reduce the risk of any other problems to durring the restart go into your recovery then delete cache, delete Dalvic Cache then fix permissions. It may be over kill and it will make the restart take longer but it gets the easy troubleshooting things out of the way early.
As for the no connection problem... the phone worked correcly in WM6.5? Did you try to connect or call prior to installing all of your apps? Have you gone in and phisically made sure that all of the APN settings match with what they should be? Do you know what they should be?

I would think that that is complete overkill for the widget problem, you're making it far too complicated.
@ OP Just go to settings>manage applications>widget which you want to move>move to internal storage, works for me every time without fail. Also you may want to change the default install location to 'automatic' as I'm sure most widgets automatically install to the internal storage anyway
hTC HD2 NAND
Thanks to all who have participated. You have been very helpful
Moving the widgets to the internal RAM has showed up in the Widgets menu. yay.
As for the WM6.5 it worked perfectly with wireless "once the proxy is defined in there".
Now I am down to one problem. Wireless Internet.
The wireless works fine even with Android. But there is no Internet pages as default configuration. Once the Proxy "TransProxy" is installed and running with proxy "IPort" only then there is Internet. Is this normal?
I can access SSL web pages via 3G connection, but the running cost is high. Wireless is the best choice. But I am slapped with "A secure connection could not be established".
I hope I have answered your questions as well, and you guys are great.
No clue whatsoever if this will help but I saw this somewhere else so:
Go to settings>wireless and networks>WiFi settings>menu>advanced>regulatory domain>13 (at least that's what I have) then menu>save. May help, may not and sorry if it doesn't
Thanks again all for the help & tips.
Do I sense that out of a box fresh installation of Android NAND does not support Internet browsing without a proxy app?

I have been using Android for quite some time now. I haven't had this problem..
If I understood you right, this only happens on wifi right??
And you said you can only download a few apps in market place correct?
I am not certain but the problem could be with MAGLDR... I know that MAGLDr uses whats called RMNET it's a type of connection to internet but thats about all I know.. cLK (the other bootloader) uses whats called PPP instead of RMNET. I am not certain but I've read in several developer threads where cLk (PPP) is more stable than the RMNET.
I do not know if cLK would fix your problem or not, but it could be worth a try. I know these connection types are especially a big factor in the new ICS builds.
Yes this only happens on wifi.
From Hd2: I enable wifi->connect to AP->obtain IP->connected to AP.
Launch web browser from HD2 and nothing happens. To confirm connectivity I use my desktop or laptop to ping the IP address that I obtained from the HD2 and it replies. No issues there. This only confirms that HD2 is indeeded connected to AP.
Since I do not have Internet on HD2, I install TransProxy IPort->enable it and the browser opens Internet. Hmmm.
Actually I cant access the market yet as I cant log-in to Google. HTTPS.
Summing it up:
No proxy = no Internet.
TransProxy = Internet http only. https are slapped with "secure connection could not be established"
I hope this clears things more.
As a last resort, I am thinking to re-flash everything from Zero. I use latest versions.
HSPL- 2.08 HSPL
Radio 2.15.50.14
Task 29
MAGLDR1.13
Recovery 150M repartition & CWR 3.0.2.5
Install ROM from CWR -> HyperDroid-CM7-Killer-Koala-v5.5.2-magldr-signed
Anyone would like to comment on the steps I use?
Once done I will update you with the results.
Thanks all to your help & feedback
I reflashed everything from zero as I mentioned and I still have this problem.
What I meant to say able to download, I meant to say I am able to download files and attachments from normal Internet sites that do not require SSL. I am unable to get into the Android Market as it requires SSL. I never logged into the app market using my android. A secure connection cannot be established once the Proxy is configured. No proxy no Internet. A viscous endless circle.
So to all Androdians out there, you just enable Wifi, get connected to AP and you have Internet without defining a proxy on your Android?
Well, to all of you who have participated, thanks for your help.
I solved my problem with a simple app called AutoProxy. I now can log into the Android Market
I hope this tips would come in handy to anyone searching the forum.
And I am loving the NAND Android on HD2. For the first time in my life I feel I am using a phone for other than a phone. WM6.5 sucked big time.
Keep up the Good work and lets help others.
