Can you prevent an app update from appearing in the market?

I installed an update of Barnacle Wifi Tether but it crashes my phone so I reinstalled the old version. Every time I open the Market it tells me that there is an update available. Any way to stop this happening?
- use this one : click works fine
- in newer ROM you can select if you want to automaticly update or not
- market options (menu button in market) > disable notifications..
Thanks for the suggestion but I have tried that. My system reboots about every third time I use it. The old version of Barnacle is the only wireless tether app that seems to work. Don't know why: I am running Floyo and, as far as I know, other people don't have a problem.
If you're rooted you can use Titanium Backup to remove the market link

[Q] My X8 can't connect to market

Hi guys, newbie here and i just had my x8 for a week. upgraded it to 2.1 and had it rooted as well.
now the problem is, i can't seem to connect to Android market. i have a google account and its working but i keep on getting the below message whenever i try the market. i can connect to the internet and browse with no problem at all
i saw some threads on other units experiencing the same problem and they said that reseting the phone will fix this. now my question is, will this also work on my x8? once i had the phone reset, will it also erase my 2.1 and root update??
please help guys! thanks a million!
Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server.
This could be a temporary problem or your sim card may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call customer care.

Happened to me once with incorrect APN settings. That was after a factory reset. Same scenario, can browse the internet and all. But I'm using an x10. Might be worth checking additional APN settings with your network provider.

Can't access Market and phone is not rooted .. must i root? and should i?

hi,
i brought a HTC DHD from london (Virgin, unlocked) a couple of weeks ago, and im in sudan...and as you've probably guessed, the Android Market is blocked here. The app opens and says "loading" then it closes (goes back to the 'All Apps' menu).
i want to download from the market, and everywhere i go, people tell me to 'root', obviously im new to this concept.
i've read some threads here on this website, but it looks like its a long process, and the "IF ANYTHING HAPPENS ITS NOT OUR FAULT" warning scares me badly.
i want a way to access the market without rooting.
and if there isnt, and rooting is the only way, then what exactly is rooting?
will the way everything works change?
will all my installed apps get deleted?
is the interface different? ( no HTC SENSE?)
and when 2.3 comes out, what do i have to do to upgrade?
NOTE:::
android version -> 2.2.1
baseband version -> 12.2xx...
software number 1.7xxxx
can anyone help?
1. your friends ask you to root is to enable you to use 2 important apps, a. Market enabler, and b. Market enabler codes. Both apps are available in Android market but requires you to root.
2. Rooting, its a process hacking your phone to gain the superuser access where it is not available on stock ROM ( ROM in a sense is the operating software for DHD).
3. Rooting does not remove installed apps. It only 'unlocks' the phone.
4. Rooting enables you to switch ROMs (exp, Android Revolution HD, Cynogen, LeeDroid..). Each ROM offers difference experience in user interface and performance (processing speed aonpd battery life). Users usually find which suits them best and difference regions have different performance albeit similar ROM+kernal+radio (to devs, correct me if I'm wrong here). Some ROM state 'no sense' included which means no HTC Sense is included.
check your email address/ account is correct it stopped my other halfs accessing the market until i changed it.
So now I've rooted my phone successfully and I downloaded market access and market enabler.
But still, I can't open the market.
Is it because my sim card is in the phone?
The main reason for me rooting was to open the market, but I still can't
Alright. From the copy any sim codes of your choosing from market enabler codes, then past.the codes into the market enabler app. Hit apply. Then access the market. You should be alright.
Just download Applanet and use that. Its got tons of free and paid apps and no regional restrictions.

Root Manager and Astro are good file managers. Opera is a good web browser that works on the Nook
thanks a lot... but when i go on search (in market) they didn't work... why?
It doesn't work, it is broken somehow. Go to market, open apps menu, all, the best free, downloas opera and file manager. Then if you want to install app from market google opera "appbrain (app you want to download)", hit first one, and on top you should find a link to market, click it, and download app form market.
Other method is to use market.android.com
another solution is download it from pc
last question... when i download a file from opera it says "you haven't a card insert... insert one and try again" can i fix this problem?
i solved...
can you talk me about a wi fi manager (support enterprise wifi) and a good pdf reader for nook?
i have downloaded an application for web, and when i try to install it, it says "for security, your phone is set to block installation of application not sourced in android market"
how i solved it?
Assuming you rooted with Touchnooter you can enable non-market installs in Nook Color Tools
i've tried to uncheck-check again the options and it works fine...
thanks a lot
last problem
for connect nook at my school i need to set proxy...
i've tried do install trasparent proxy but it says "no iptables binary found on your ROM" can i solved it?
i've try app called "proxy settings" but it doesn't work...
you have solution for set proxy?
(i've solved wep enterprise problem with "WiFiAdva", but now, for connect i need proxy setting)
Have you try another version of the Android market? It can help
if you have a name of a "program for proxy" say it....
i'll search and install it....

[howto]remove android market regional restriction

I am using P7510 wifi only model and living in China. These I tried varies methods and finally found the way to remove the market regional restriction without vpn.
I am using overcome 1.1 with pershoot kernel, which is based on a 3G rom I think(not sure if this helps or not).
1. install market access and fake tmobile provider
2. remove google account and disable network and gps location service
3. force close market and clear data
4. open market, add back my google account
5. now I can see all the paid apps and download them without error like "this item cannot be installed in your country".
ps. not sure market access will work on a wifi only rom.
Thanks for your post. I have struggled with market access every since bringing my tablet to China. I have found ways around it, but they are painful and only temporary.
I can verify that market access will not work on an wifi only version. It is interesting that you have flashed yours with a 3G version of ROM. I have wondered if this would then work and obviously it does. I am also using pershoots kernel but just flashed tasks new ROM and really do not want to change to another one. I have often thought that we just need to use some of the 3G settings in the build.prop to make the marketaccess program work but I have not seen confirmation of this.
Can you point me to the exact 3G ROM you are using? Thanks.
I am using overcome 1.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275751
but since its based on 3g rom, it gave me headache setting up exchange mail, and imap won't retrieve any mail, only pop3 works. I am waiting for overcome 1.1.1 which reverts back to wifi only rom and should resolve the email problem, but then market access may not work.......

How about after a reboot? I tried Market Access, Market Enabler as well as RootToolbox Pro and neither was able to handle the fake on boot option.

That is a shame. I spend a lot of time in a country where paid apps are not available and it is a pain to download the apps to my phone first (Market Enabler fake on boot works perfectly on it) and then copy them to the Tab, but what can one do. Maybe someone will come up with something better.

great news. I install overcome rom 1.2 which is back to wifi base, and my method works!!!
Very interesting and thanks for the feedback. I assume you flashed with the 1.2 version for the 7510 (Wifi only version) and this is what you say is now working? Or did you flash again with the 7500 version of 1.2?
I may try to flash with the 7510 and see if that fixed the market problem even though I had not previously flashed the 7500 version. I can't believe this will work but may give it a try.
