Why are apps not being deleted after root and reboot? - EVO 4G General

I did the toast method lastnight 1 and 2 and now when I delete thing using root explorer, after I reboot stuff shows right back up.
I was just wondering anyone could think of one step that I forgot that would cause this.
Thanks
Roman

Could it be ROM dependent? When I was on the rooted stock rom, it would reappear after the reboot. Since I've been on Fresh Evo and deleted additional programs, it doesn't come back.

Could be, but I am running fresh as well.
I tried DC but just threw me into a bootloop, and i tried it a couple of times.

Hmm, not sure. What are you trying to delete (stock apks, etc)? Only other thing I can think of is that you don't have full root access. But if you did everything in the guides right, then you should be good. You might have to re-do it from scratch. Or at least from Part 2 if you can't find a solution.

If its showing back up you don't have nand unlocked. Try doing part two again and back sure you delete the old files and re download everything. Some people try and use the same zip from part one because it had thee same name but its a different file.

thats all fine and dandy except while zooming through the process I deleted a android system file and my phone just will not stop notifying me about force closing stuff, my internet is all screwy and such..
I'm wondering if I flash the origanal shipping rom onto it if it will cure everything and bring it back to stock then work from there flashing CMOD again..

You have cyanogenmod now? Just reflash the latest rom.
Yeah, just flash whatever ROM you want to run and it will replace the files you deleted. You're in no bad shape here, don't worry.
I suggest, from now on that you not delete any files, but just to rename the extension to "*.apkbak" then if you ever need the file again you simply revert the name to "*.apk"
ya I tried reflashing other roms and the problem presists I'm flashing the stock rom just to start new again and see if that stops it. If not I'm SOL.
What did you delete? there (shouldn't be) anything that isn't replaced with a flash of cyanogenmod.
Grab a logcat (adb logcat > output.txt) of it force closing and put it in pastebin or something and give us the link. There can't be anything missing that you couldn't easily copy back in if you are on a rooted rom already...
ok I'm trying to do a nandroid restore right now see if that helps, and I'll get the log for it when I get done eating.

Ok so after only passing the official google PASSIMG ROM, so now I can flash other things.
I currently flashed back to CM and now after I restored all to stock it seems to be flying! Like when I flashed it for the first time!

[Q] Root Noob needs help!

because i have no shame, i'll admit it. this is my second root ever. first was on my droid 2 r2d2 to remove the crap that wasnt necessary.
using this tutorial, just google samsung continuum froyo, and its on addictive tips. I followed the directions properly.
Basically, I used odin3 with a custom froyo rom, i did everything correctly, and i began to use titanium backup to remove some bloatware. what i removed was the GO Launcher stuff and now my homescreen is just a black screen. I've tried using recovery mode and restored that way. i've done that 10+ times. i cant get to any apps, only pressing the bottom ticker to access my text messages and notifications slide down bar. thats it. no apps. at all. can someone tell me how to revert back to the original software? then i will re-root again and this time NOT remove anything. or someone can show me properly how to remove it.
thanks. itll help a lot!
Go launcher (in most roms for the continuum) the ONLY launcher installed so when you got rid of it with TiB you screwed the whole UI. Try booting into Recovery wipe data fact reset wipe cache. then reboot. pull battery reflash on odin, make sure repartition is unchecked. let it reboot. should be back to normal.
can you explain that in a different way. i tried wiping in recovery mode it didnt work
Are you using <2e> recovery (samsung stock) or CwM?
You removed the launcher, this is why. You probably deleted a file called TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
You have a few options now, do you have CWM installed? If so go download another rom, put it on your sdcard some how then install it. It will save you much time and you don’t have to remove the bloat as it’s already removed.
If you aren’t familiar with CWM(clock work recovery) I would suggest researching it s you will be dealing a lot with it.
I would recommend reflashing via odin so that you have all files again. If you want to get rid of bloat, install nuckin or eco07-clean they both are good basic roms. I am currently working on a rom which is called miunia it is as minimalistic as I can make it. It is still in beta forms but it can be installed through odin. If you want the launcher I suggest flashing one of mine for the time being..

if you deleted the actual file, just rebooting the phone won't fix the issue. you will have to replace the launcher or factory reset.
For future reference, another option is to get on android market from your computer and download a launcher. It will send it to your phone and install automatically. Then, when you hit the home button, it should run the launcher.

Titanium Backup- doesn't sync settings

Hi,
I have a problem with TB.
I setup custom labels in the app and clicked on the Sync TB settings box in preferences. But when I wipe and flash a new rom and reinstall the app, my labels do not return.
Another issue I have is when I try to create an update.zip file. I go to flash it and it doesn't install. I've tried both signed and unsigned and it's the same result.
Anybody got any ideas?
1 labels for what? and are you backing up the correct thing to back them all up?
update.zip has always been flaky for me as well. when are you flashing it? ive noticed it doesnt work after flashing rom but after rebooting doin a few things in the rom (im sure you could just boot back to recovery after sign in) and flashing its there annnd thats on aosp roms i have had less sucess on sense roms

from TB you can create custom labels and then associate an app to them. Since the labels are created in TB, it is part of the settings. With the sync settings option selected, TB should be saving the settings to the SD card.
Theoretically, I should be able to wipe the phone and then re-install TB which is theoretically suppose to sync the previous settings and the custom labels should come back.
then when in filters the label is selected and you hit apply, all of those apps that were associated with the label should appear.
This makes restoring apps from a fresh ROM much easier than rifling through old back-ups.
Thanks for the heads up on the update.zip.
bump. with question
Does anybody have a suggestion on how to do the above easier?
How do you guys and/or gals flash new roms and get your most used apps up and running quickly?
Flash rom, download titanium, batch restore. Takes about 30-60 minutes depending on how many apps I restore.

Solved :
Figured out what happened. The ROM I flashed had TiBu installed and didn't sync previous settings.
I uninstalled TiBu and reinstalled it. And it works.

Uh oh... Can I fix this? Rom Toolbox Pro error

Hey guys,
I tried using Rom Toolbox Pro to change my battery icon... after trying to install, the error "com.android.systemui has stopped working" continually popped up. I had to reboot by holding vol+, vol- and lock.
After rebooting, all soft buttons and the status bar are gone. I can't manage to get them back. I also can't manage to restore the battery icon - RTP prompted me to backup the icons before trying to install the new ones, and I did.
What have I done?
You've borked the system UI. Need to flash a new ROM or flash a factory image, I think.

So I went to restore my backup through CMW, it failed. Now I'm stuck on the Google screen. How do I flash it back to stock, in order to start all over again? I can get to the CMW page with the Android on his back, with "Start" up the top.
Appreciate any help!

That's not the clock work recovery. It's the bootloader. That's where you need to be to flash the image though.
First download the Nexus 7 image from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#nakasijro03d
Once you have downloaded it extract the file twice until you see image-nakasi-jro03d.zip
Take that zip and move it to the directory where you have fastboot on your computer.
Open your command prompt pointing at that directory.
Then, type:
Code:
fastboot devices
if it returns a number you are good to go.
Next type:
Code:
fastboot -w update image-nakasi-jro03d.zip
This will wipe your user data and restore stock recovery. But you should be good to go.
geez, just reflash your rom, youll be ok.

haha sorry if my posts were a bit over the top, I was just sitting in bed having a play (with my Nexus 7........), then all of a sudden my tablet is seemingly wrecked simply from trying to change the battery icon... I FREAKED
Did something similar myself.
Just downloaded the factory image and flashed just the system.img file using fastboot and rerooted. A few system apps played up, most were fixed by wiping the cache but i had to delete all data from the contacts app, it resynced fine anyway.
To clarify extract the factory image to get the system.img and use the following
fastboot flash system system.img
Just rewrites the system partition.

Same thing on Galaxy Nexus... stumbled upon this thread searching for a solution. Was thinking we could restore from the backup that was made when swapping icons, but I guess that's not the case?

Hello friends,
I am curious why, when such issues occured with your device, you did not contact Rom Toolbox Dev. to ask for help?
I am part of the support team from Rom Toolbox Pro, and I believe the post right before me is from someone who reached out to me to ask me about this, so allow me to explain the solution here real fast:
What happened is that when you changed the icon, it simply didn't work and messed up the UI. This occurs sometimes, and is the right time to restore a backup of the icons.
Problem is that now you can't restore, because the soft keys are all gone, and the Nexus 7 has no hard keys to do the dirty work.
So, here is the solution; you must use Root Browser to switch out the Systemui.apk and framework.apk files from the backup folder to the /system/app folder.
Where is the backup stored, you ask? Well, since it's very easy to break a rom by restoring the framework and systemui to the wrong rom, the backups are actually placed inside the app's data partition. This is to prevent tampering. If you are reading this post, then I assume you know what you're doing and are doing this with the EXACT same rom as the backups were created from.
The directory of the backups is /data/data/com.jrummy.liberty.toolboxpro/files/status_bar_backup/
Simply copy these over and paste them in /system/app, maybe renaming rather than deleting the old ones, just in case, then paste these and reboot your device.
And now your systemui and framework should be all restored.
Hope this helps! Be sure to contact the developer next time you need any help, We have arguably the best customer service of all the Play Store
And be sure to thank the one who referred me to this thread, if this helps!

Hi Master Ramy,
I was the one who emailed JRummy.
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying actually. I guess your reply answers the OP's question - that is, in the event that we get the "com.android.systemui has stopped working" error , then we should do the stuff you said?
My issue is different... I hadn't swapped out my battery icons yet, cos I wanted to test the restore function in ROM Toolbox first before doing so. So I backed up both systemui and framework-res using ROM Toolbox, then simply tried to restore them using ROM Toolbox. But I got a toast notification saying "failed to get icons". I didn't get a big error like the OP's, but it was alarming enough that I didn't even try to change the icons in the end.
Are you saying that I should manually move my systemui and framework-res backups to system/app in order for ROM Toolbox to be able to restore them?

[Q] Few questions on roms / widgets / etc

Hey, so I'm fairly new to the whole rooting and customizing Android, so please forgive me if I come accross "ignorant" or generally childish. I bought a galaxy note 3 the other day and researched what rooting did. After getting convince that rooting was "awesome," I actually managed to root. I also played with some Xposed modules because they were fairly simple and cool. After more research, I found out that Verizon had a locked bootloader which prevented me from using any other roms? I also read that verizon/att users can use safestrap but i couldn't exactly find some specifics for it. So whats the disadvantages of safestrap? Do specific roms have to be used?
Another concern, I'd like to get a faster rom than stock touchwiz, but i'd also like to find a rom that can use ART runtime as well as maintaining a nice multi window feature. I tried XHaloFloatingWindow and another xposed module, and I can't say I was pleased with them compared to the touchwiz one. I'd also like to maintain S-pen features? Does anybody know of any roms that may come close to fitting most of these topics?
Final, completely random question, The lg g3 has this lockscreen widget where when it rains out, drops of water will cover/slide down the entire lock screen on top of your notifications. I thought this was awesome, but wasn't sure if it was possible to get on a note 3.
Anyways, Hope to get some simple answers

Safestrap is as close to a custom recovery as we'll get, right now. Due to our bootloader, stock based rom are all we can use. However, we are not stuck with one rom. Check in the dev threads for roms compatible with your device. Also check the dev and general threads for more info on rooting, safestrap, and how to flash roms.

Not sure about this one...
Not sure about your specific questions, as I don't use multiwindow or the other features you listed. But I thought I would point out, what method of root did you use? Make sure of what system your running at this point. beans or kitkat? You will have to select a rom based on that. Or vice versa, re-root if you find a rom that you prefer thats running different android version. Either one will run safestrap obviously, since there are roms for each. You will find pros and cons to each. The con that I'm currently experiencing on kitkat that has me thinking about going back is I can't seem to find a modem that will get me decent reception so I'm assuming at this point that its kitkat thats causing it. Just something more for you to research. Being new to it, you've got ALOT of material to read about. But if you've already rooted, sounds like you've got a decent idea of the process. For me, tutorial videos were a life saver

Alright so perhaps you can help me with just a few more concerns. I researched roms and such. I successfully downloaded safestrap, made a backup of my stock rom and put it on mycomputer. I also made a backup with titanium backup before that and it is also on the computer. I am looking at hyperdrive or jasminerom for the note 3. On there, it explains normal directions to install, but then it says to flash with odin, but when I read something about a tutorial how to install cutom roms on a website "Galaxynote3root" (I can't post the URL yet, says i'll be spamming) , it explained nothing of odin. What is odin? is it mandatory? Does my phone have it by default? hm.... Also i have a build number of NC4, does that build not work with NC2? sorry for inconvenience or annoying noobish questions. Thanks if you respond
So being on Kitkat, did you use the beans method that installed a rom with root basically built in already? And by saying you downloaded safestrap, is it successfully installed? When you boot the phone, do you get the safestrap bootup screen allowing to go into recovery?
If you've already gotten that far, your pretty well set to install either of those roms.

Well i rooted my phone via towelroot. I got safestrap hooked up and installed, so in other words when i reboot, yes it does have the splash screen. I am on kitkat as well. but do i need to install some sort of odin or something? sorry
I think as long as the rom's op says it's based on nc2 or nc4, you should be good. You should not need to worry about odin, since you're already on kk.
Since you're new, I'd suggest not touching the stock slot. It gives you a fall back if something goes wrong. Make sure you understand using safestrap, and start trying some stuff out.

alright alright I'm very sorry for this final question as I actually have tried to search for this but only got comparisons between titanium backup and safestrap. Nope. Tibu backs up specific apps and it's associated data and stores it on sd. When you open tibu, it gets it's info from files it stores on sd. Recovery backs up your entire rom environment, but doesn't actually touch sd card user space.
This is why tibu is so helpful. Everything pops up that you had backed up, even on a new rom.
I'm not familiar with the towelroot method. Only the old Kingo for jb, or the beans method for kk. Sounds like your good to go for any KK roms, and Lefty seems familiar, good deal. Not sure how old you are or how far back your computer knowledge goes, so this may do you no good. Odin doesn't go on your phone, it goes on your computer. I always think of it as the old school DOS, or like now when you boot to command prompt if windows isn't working. Its like a back door when your phone operating system isn't working, or if you need to make changes to part of the system that would otherwise need to be running to make those changes FROM the phone. Its flashes the changes TO the phone from your computer instead.
I'm rambling. Its too early. Anyhow, glad your getting things moving along. You can try roms in various rom slots, but you may have issues. I had some roms work well, others not well at all. The ones that have problems, they seem to work better in the stock slot. So you have to wipe the stock slot and flash it there. No big deal, just don't goof up, flash it all at once. If you pause, take a potty break and the battery dies, whatever, don't forget, you have no operating system at that point. Thats when Odin would come into play

Alright so quick update. I successfully installed both roms into slots 1 and 2 respectively. Everything went okay, I rebooted system, but the screen just stayed black. They aren't loading, i still can go back to stock rom. But uhm any idea as to why this is occuring? Could it be the NC4/NC2 build things?
In the hyperdrive rom for the note 3, it says it will work with verizon and also states that after the initial reboot after flashing the rom, there will be a 10 minute wait until it actually boots up. I'd say i've waited 15 minutes and nothing has shown up. So I'm assuming something went wrong. Perhaps i should try to reflash it?
EDIT: I read the directions further ahead and managed to flash a file via odin for the first time, now im getting a rom's boot animation which is good. I hope this'll work !
Edit 2: I successfully installed it and booted it up, everything went okay, I restored my titanium backup and then titanium prompted me to restart. I restarted, and now its bootlooping android.process.acore or something like that is crashing everything =/

In JasmineRom's instructions it says to flash a file called unified_KK_Firmware_RE.tar.md5. After flashing it, it booted up to the new rom.But seemingly once i restarted after titanium backup restored everything it crashed. I then cleared all the cache and data through a factory reset in the safestrap settings and it started up normally. Am I not going to be able to restore my things through titanium? I would send you a link to the odin flash file, but I can't until I have a certain number of posts

No need. I know what you're saying. So flashing that file shouldn't have been really necessary, given you're already on nc4. But it doesn't hurt and should not have caused what you described. So you have roms in stock, slot 1, and slot 2? Which ones bootloop?
For tibu, I would uninstall, reboot, reinstall. Somehow it didn't like you doing that.

Alright so as we speak right now, I have slot 1 with jasminerom and stock which should be the untouched stock rom of course. I have a backup through safestrap of that. I will uninstall titaniumbackup and reinstall and see if that works?
edit: sorry I feel as though I'm being unclear as I can hardly comprehend my own messages. Before, both slot 1 and stock were bootlooping. This bootloop came after titanium backup promted me to restart. But when i cleared the cache through the factory reset, the slot1 rom started to work agin (jasminerom), I haven't tried stock rom to see if it works yet. I'm currently on jasminerom about to re-restore my apps through titanium backup like you said.

alright i finished re-restoring through titanium backup. Once it finished it provided a notification saying "batch complete, 66 elements failed" Right now all my apps are here and everything is seeming to work. Should I restart to see if it bootloops again?

You should be ok. How many apps did you try to restore, if 66 failed?
