HD2 cab install

hello guys, i dont own an hd2 yet but ill buy one this month but i have a question i want to add some cabs file on my device when i get. My question is i have download some cabs BUT when i open the winrar i dont get any cab file, all i get is some files that has bunch of numbers and one of them says "_setup.xml" so what should i do? should i directly put the winrar file on my hd2? since i dont get any cab file inside the winrar?? and if there's a cab file inside the winrar and i press the button "extract here" should i just upload the cab file only to my hd2 right??

Hi.
A CAB file is a compressed installer file for mobile phones.
If you open it with winrar, you will see all the files it contains.
Just copy the original .cab file to your phone.
Click on the .cab file, and it will run the installer, and install the program on your phone.
You can choose to install to the main memory or the sd card.

Yeah - as above. What you're calling a "winrar" file is the cab file.

Extract a cab
Ok, I know this isn't the original question but...
is it possible to extract a .cab file - i mean to extract all the different files that make up the program , all the .exe .dll .ico etc etc. Wanting to do this to help me reverse-engineer a couple of omnia 2 cabs that don't work.

yes extract the files with winrar

ohhh okok i get it now.. so i just donwload thw winrar which is the cab file and i copy it to my hd2. thanks guys

Tried that, all I get are 10 files. One of them is _setup.xml, the others are numbered files.
I've attached a screen capture of the files so you can see what they are.

Yes that's what you would expect as they are the cab install files.
If they don't mean anything are you sure you know what you're doing?

That's what I'm trying to find out. I assume that the WM program works in a similar way to windows program in that its a collection of files (exe, ico, dll, cfg so on so forth) that get installed in the appropriate places on the device. If so, how do you 'unpack' these files from the setup files

use a cab manager program. I don't so I can't recommend, but wincecab manager sound familiar. u can use them to create cabs of your tweaks, install files and such.

it seems that you have never used windows mobile (just copy the winrar file into the device and run it from the device)

I'm not trying to install a cab file (which the first post was about) I'm trying to decompile the omnia 2 video editor to get it to run on the HD2 but instead of starting a new thread, I asked on this one because it seemed (partially) relevant.
BTW, I've got the cab 'extracted' so thanks - no for the difficult part...

Noob help-how do i install a cab??

I've already flashed to Kumar's latest rom and everything workig fine. I found the cab repository for programs I can add but no threads telling me what to do with the cab after I download it to my PC. Sorry for the NOOB question but I just jumped into this world and loving every minute of it!! Thx in advance!!

Sync your device with ActiveSync. Transfer the cab file to your device. Browse to where you copied the cab file on your device with a file browser (Total Commander, File Explorer, etc.) and then run the cab file (this is within your device, not on your computer).

Welcome to the wonderful world of flashing lol. Im actually suprised that you flashed a rom but haven't read on .cabs yet
Anyway if you have the .cab downloaded to your pc just copy it to your sdcard. Then use file explorer to navigate to where you placed the .cab, select it and it will install. Most cabs will ask if you want to install to device or sdcard, it's that simple. Good Luck

you could also just drag the file from ur comp to sdcard. then open file explorer->tap the cab file and it'll take u to an install page.

help installing .cab files

I am having trouble instaling .cab file I install them on to my memory card the use file explorer to find them tap on set up them it goes to my opera browser and then to a white screen and then nothing can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong or guide me to where I can get help

It sounds like you had first opened the cab file (on your PC desktop maybe?) and are trying to run the setup.xml file inside the cab, instead of the cab itself. Copy JUST the single .cab file over to your phone's card, and click that to run it.

yeah like sirphunkee said, do not unzip the downloaded files before transferring them to your phone.
TRANSFER THE FILE AS IT IS, and RUN ONLY THE .cab files from the phone. No other extensions.

np, that one happens all the time

so how do you unistall a cab file..im new to winmo as far as tweaks i come from blackberry, so what i did is i installed a clock cab. but its not like i thot so i cant unistiall can i get some help?

i got it, my add/remove programs wasnt showing...resolved on my end thanks.

I went there dont really understand what to do I downloaded file to desktop and draged to sdcard and turned phone off and back on...nothin am I doin it wrong?

download the cab, copy it anywhere on your phone, browse to it with phones file manager, run it, done.

what file do click to run

locate file explorer on your phone as others have said. Navigate to the folder where you copied cht 1.8.5 then click on the file, this will prompt an install just choose device as directory and install. Be sure to also install the chteditor you must download it the link is on the cookie forum, and install it the same way.

Dont get confused and unpack the .cab on your pc, because it will open with winzip or winrar or something whilst on the PC and show four files.
DO NOT do this.
Copy the .cab file whole to the phone, then on the phone open start menu - file manager - find the .cab file, and tap it to run it.

The easiest way I have found is to download cabs straight to your phone with the phone's browser (opera or IE). I created a folder on my sdcard called "cabs" and I download to that folder. You can then navigate to that folder with your file browser and install from there by tapping on the file you want to install. This method works well for .cab files anyway. I (so far anyway) have installed all my apps to internal phone memory.

[Q] Problem

I have a T mobile HTC HD2. when i go to download the cookies tab and extract it to a folder on desktop i don't see any CAB file there all just regular files. That go's for anything i download and want to install. I have read everything and nothing works HELP. Thanks in advance.

dont extract it on the pc, keep it as the file you download. The PC thinks .cab files are for extracting, , ,they arent. Move the whole file.cab to your phone, browse to it with the phones file explorer, then click to run it.
