Well... every other post is about Evo 4g love affair, so lets not
my only gripe is no voice & data at the sametime, other than that i am enjoying the EVO (atleast within my 30 day window haha). i am recently enjoying the linking of contacts to social networks and other items as well linking Qik to facebook to provide links to videos i posted without having to do it manually.
very cool phone, walk around in the airport listening to music, get the ok from pilot for electronics, switch to a movie, read the usatoday, send my wife a msg on gtalk, flip back to movie, etc etc etc
I love my EVO too which is why I am so sad that HTC put a cap on the graphics and I may have to return it...

+1 for this topic! I love mine as well. Amazing phone despite the negative reports (which I only experience a few of personally).
Good thread. I love my EVO too. The problems worry me but I still prefer it to the iPhone 3GS I just left, and to the iPhone 4 that is coming out. So far I haven't noticed touch screen issues or screen seperation. But this phone is still awesome. I would replace it though if there was a 4.3"-5" nexus one though
I am coming from a mogul, so things are night and day.
I am very happy with the evo...
yes I have seen wifi slowdown: max 5000kbps down, 1000 up with a only the dot as an indication; Performance degrades significantly if hand is placed over the kickstand area. Battery life is as expected for heavy use (12hrs, blue tooth & 3g data all day, 20% screen brightness). I see the screen lifting ever so slightly and can barely see light creeping though at night, but I got a seidio case which seems to keep everything snug, if it gets worse I'll do the black silicone trick. Barring the fact that I haven't found a file encryption package, or a way to easily back everything up (as i could with sprite backup on wm)......that is ...yet.
I love this thing and use it all day. The speech to text is awesome (I laught to think that I was worried about a keyboard!)
the wifee got one too. she is happy as she has never had a smartphone or anything that could do email/internet. I showed her the problem with the display(slight lifting & setting on a table-top slider), and she gave me a dumb look and said "so, whats the problem? " .... I left it at that.
you will never have a perfect production run, there will always be software bugs, lets home that HTC will improve their processes, make current customers happy (returns & repair and or replacements), and will get together with sprint for an action plan including the release with fixes to the current problems with a easy to root, android 2.2 update.

It's the way people have been conditioned lately...for instance...when was the last time you heard of a happy marriage? but I bet you heard of a **** ton of divorces and unhappy marriages...no one goes out singing high praises anymore, it's always complaints and *****ing.
On a brighter note, yes, the phone has it's problems...it wouldn't be a consumer grade electronic device if it didn't. I personally LOVE it.
No issues here. Coming from an AT&T Tilt, so consider my world rocked at the moment.

You and me both, and I was running android on it, so even with the fps cap, the EVO is faster I can't think of another phone I would rather have right now despite the issues. Have had zero hardware issues and can fairly easily get 20+ hours of battery life with moderate usage. Quite happy...

In all seriousness, I don't know that I have turned on my laptop more than once or twice since I got my EVO, I think that it hits the perfect balance of screen size and pocketability for light internet surfing/email/blog reading/Facebook/etc. such that it makes a full sized computer almost irrelevant. Just MHO.

I wanted to love the Evo, the specs are awesome, the screen is huge, web browsing is blazing fast, but the user experience just leaves something to be desired IMO. I hope these issues are resolved with future updates and/or Froyo and I may be back!
The main cuplits in my opinion: Touch screen lag, the unresponsive screen, the lack of 4G in my area (and still have to pay the $10 premium), the FPS cap issue, the jittery and stuttering pinch to zoom in browser. Hacking/rooting the phone is WAY too complicated and risky compared to the iphone jailbreaking
Minor gripes but still annoying: the lack of 'next' and 'previous' buttons in browser for filling in fields, landscape keyboard has no 'send' button in SMS app, landscape keyboard mode in general takes up the whole screen so you cant see where your typing without hitting back button, no way to turn off the 'text reflo' feature in brower...sometimes its more of a hassle than a benefit.
I have a few days left in the 30-day trial and have made the descision to take it back. If these issues are resolved, in which I hope the official Froyo will address these issues I will happily ditch the iphone and jump back on the andriod bandwagon.
Do it then, not like it's a life changing decision. If you come back, the forum is still here.

A lot of people are going to post some hater remarks because you're going to the iPhone, but objectively I actually do understand where you are coming from. It's pretty angering to think that HTC delivered a gimped phone with major quality issues marketed as the best phone ever (and it could have been!).
Yes, most of this can be fixed via the community (thank God for that!) but it's still frustrating that it is happening. Hacking the phone to where HTC should have built it as voids the warranty and any kind of support. I think that's unacceptable. We waited months and stared at countless blogs reviewing early releases just salivating over the phone. Once it got here it was quite an awakening for some people. Thankfully because of XDA, we can say screw HTC and "fix it" ourselves.
A lot of your gripes are more with the Android OS, which I think is wonderful but understandably is not everyone's cup of tea.
I just played with a friends Iphone 4 and I have to say its a nice appliance. I can definitely see the draw.
If your already questioning your Evo decision, then do it.

I agree completely. It's a nice phone but it doesn't have enough for my inner geek. Feels too dumbed down. Even jailbroken.
Haha you might want to wait until after they do the antenna recall.
What I mean is ALL phones with how they push them out nowadays will have issues.
Rooting is anything but difficult but if you can't do it then perhaps the Iphone is a good choice for you.
Fully agree with aridon..
If you aren't into getting the most you can out of your phone get a damn iphone!
I prefer choice, and i'm not a follower.. so android is for me.
That said most of your problems will be fixed with froyo and the rest (UI and aesthetics) will be fixed with gingerbread.
By the end of this year I fully expect these phones to rock
what a totally useless post this is nothing but

Rooting is super easy if you can just follow the instructions.
Having owned the 3g and 3gs and now the evo... along with a ton of other htc's I can tell you the number one reason people dont stick with these phones after the switch... too complex. No thing to me as i've been tinkering and flashing since the vogue but some folks just like the empty interface/pages of apps because its simple.
So I've currently got a myTouch 1.2 that I bought from T-Mobile back in February and the phone is just lacking. I've been thinking of buying a new phone or even switching carrier's. I was looking at switching to Verizon and getting the Droid X, but then I stumbled across this phone while looking at some reviews. Wanted to get your opinions on whether I should just grab up the Vibrant or is the Droid X better?
No, but the Samsung Vibrant is INCREDIBLE.
Sorry, JK better answer coming...
My buddy has an X, I have the Vibrant (also I have/had a G1 and a Nexus One). The Vibrant is MUCH better than all of them, including the X in my opinion. The X first off has a locked bootloader, so no custom ROMs. It does not feel as good in the hand.... the screen is NOT nearly as good, poor color, 45 FPS vs. the near 57 FPS of the Vibrant. Everything about my phone feels faster/better.... the blur UI of the X is NOT good and the launcher is very slow. You will def have to use an alternate launcher. TouchWiz on the other hand added some REALLY cool features. I would check out the sticky where I touch on some of them.
Also, T Mo is going to be a cheaper plan....
If you were set on going to verizon I would get the Fascinate (the vibrant) or the droid 2 (which launches with 2.2 OS).
Hell yes get the vibrant.. wont lie. It has a gps issue that samsung is supposed to fix, luckily I'm not heavy into gps.. everything else is a dream on this bad boy..
I recommend it 1000 percent
That's totally a personal decision IMHO. I'm personally pleased with my Vibrant, in fact it's a far better phone than I expect it to be. With my Vibrant Rooted -> Clockwork recovery -> Lag fix all it needs is a True GPS fix for it to be perfect IMHO
I'm extremely impressed with the Vibrants benchmark numbers in Quadrant post lag fix

Remember this is with Android 2.1 I can't wait to see what we can do with Android 2.2
Phandroid OC artical <- check this out: some info on over-clocking goodness.
I and MANY others have no GPS issue.
Other than some reports on the GPS not being super accurate because you know we like our location on the face of the earth to be closer than 30 feet. As well the compas seems to be a bit useless, but I'm sure both are fixes soon in the future.
Personally I really like the Vibrant. Screen is amazing, the audio quality of the phone is light years above my old G1, internal storage of common 16gig. Comes with Avatar, which I personally could of done without, but hey we have it.
It does come across kinda iphonish, but honestly I've always wanted an iPhone, but never wanted to pay for it nor switch carriers so I'm kinda in hog heaven.
Great phone. I would highly recommend it. 4 of my friends bought the device after I did and they would tell you the same thing. I Have zero issues that most people are starting to have problems with. It's been pretty much smooth sailing with this device.
Sent from my awesome Vibrant using XDA App
Absolutely. Awesome CPU/GPU, awesome screen, and the best part is we have awesome developers like JAC, eugene373, and few others are working on the Vibrant. Few people are having issue with the GPS but I don't. Both mine and gf's Vibrant are running eugene373's Vibrant4 ROM and we see GPS signal lock less than 10 seconds all the time.

HAHAHA... I said the same damn thing to my buddy when we went to look at it at the Tmo store. "why do I want this fake iphone for".... then I turned it on LOL.
I found myself thinking "ohhh... look at all the pretty colors".
Was hesitant to keep the phone till the ball started rolling... Now, with some patience and the Vibrant dev team (not the CM team) I KNOW I have one of, if not the best android phone out right now, Period!
Vibrant all the way! Think about it... Samsung is pushing this phone for all carriers really hard! I can't even tell you how many commercials I see on a daily basis for it.
With the "Galaxy S" on all carriers, can you imagine how many people/Devs are going to be working with this line? It's gonna be huge! The ROMs going back, and forth from Vibrate, Captive, Fascinate, and the Epic with minor tweaks will be endless.
All I'm saying is, don't sleep on this phone, just get it!
Sounds pretty unanimous to me. I'm going to hold out a week or so and do shopping around. I'd like to be able to find a new one for a little less than the $500 T-Mobile wants for one.
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
I just picked mine up today, and I'm so giddy I can't find the thread with all the current mods in it.
Like all phones, the Vibrant has its fair share of issues. Most of the issues, however, are liveable/controllable. The only major problem you should consider before purchasing the phone is the horrible battery life.
Dont think it has bad battery life at all coming from a mytouch slide im almost thinking the battery is better then that.
^^ WHAT?!?! try having a G1 and then tell me the Vibrant has terrible battery life. What a joke. Have you played with an Evo, and it's 5 hour battery life?
I come from a Samsung Omnia and the Omnia had a much, much better battery life than the Vibrant. My Vibrant can't even last a full day on a full charge. It typically lasts 5-6 hours and thats with moderate usage.
The Omnia is running Windows Mobile so it's not a valid comparison. The T-Mobile SDA can last days without a charge but I wouldn't compare it to the T-Mobile myTouch 3G
Yes, I love thise friggin phone! I want a backup so i can use this one drinking!
I love mine! I am new to Android and no where NEAR as sophisticated a user as most here .... bit I will be!
My new fave toy.
On my myTouch I get around 1 and 1/2 days use out of a single charge, as long as I don't leave my GPS turned on or do a lot using wifi. Anytime I've got GPS on, whether actually using it or not, my battery just drifts away. Wifi can stay on, but any heavy usage and I get about the same. Outside of that, not too bad.
I've watched countless videos on Youtube and researched them both on google, but I just can't seem to come to a decision on which is better.
The Vibrant has native android which runs smooth AND records videos in 720p which is a really nice bonus, but the HD2 just has this massive screen which just looks like it kicks *** BUT can also run Android (with some bugs apparently). When it comes to battery life, which is better? My day is filled with heavy texting and the occasional web browsing but not really emails or networking since I hate Facebook and all that.
Any help here?
I've had both and Vibrant hands down. Not even a contest honestly. The only thing the HD2 has over the Vibrant is a little larger screen and even then the Vibrant is a better screen.
Here you go.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745201&highlight=Vibrant+hd2
we're getting too many of the threads....
if you look at them side by side and open the same apps etc, you will see that the hd2 is garbage.
Vibrant indeed, was at the T-Mo store and mom was considering it for some bizarre reason, the T-Mo rep told her to not consider it, on top of all the obvious reasons posted in many threads, the device itself seems to be very buggy and the rep said most people have problems with the device
If you can afford a Lexus why buy a Hyuandai that looks like one? Go with the vibrant, my hd2 had freezing issues, slow browser and the app store reminded me of my palm treo 650, non existant!
I perfer the screen size and ergonomics of the vibrant, on a hardware note, and touch sensitive buttons means no dirt getting into the phone.
Did I miss anything?
Oh night mode, swype, and hummingbird ftw!
Sent from the best phone from TMO... Vibrant
The only thing going for it would be the price, depending on how disgusted the person is with the HD2 you can get one mint in the low $200's
Thanks guys, I realize this is an overdone topic but I really appreicate the responses.
I think I'm set on the vibrant since it has way better features with the exception of flash and a bigger screen.

If your talking about getting paid apps for free then you're not going to get any help here. Its called warez and very frowned upon here. Besides most apps in the market are free or have a lite version. And the paid ones only cost a few dollars so its not even worth it to pirate them.

Getting apps for free really does this community a dis-service. app developers are less likely to produce the higher end games and support for a system that is flawed, at least for now. Soon we will see emailed auth. Codes for every paid app., but will hopefully see those apps that are truly worth paying for.
Vibe the XDApp
Haven't used the HD2 but I'm in love with my Vibrant and it seems like a has quite a bigger fan base going.
Sent from my awesome Vibrant using XDA App
I don't mind paying for applications, but paying for an app that let's you use nice themes with different icons (on the G1 anyways) always seemed downright stupid to me. You're right though, it doesn't justify stealing them in the first place because some devs do deserve the money.
I had HD2 and i wasnt happy with it. It crashed the second day and apps were simply limited and useless. The OS wasnt bad but it wasnt good either. After i installed android i was more pleased but not for long when it kept crashing (bcs obviously is not perfect yet) Now that i have Vibrant i fell in love from out of the box. Everything is neat (especially when froyo 2.2 comes out) and so far havent frozen once. Battery never seemed like a problem to me, and i DO text a lot. Usually keep brightness down since the screen is beautiful as it is and less light reflect. Every phone have its own problems and HD2 have too many.
I have both..I like the led flash and larger screen of the hd2 but the color and pop of the vibrant is much better...I like my Vibrant alot more.....

Doubt it man, the hd2's lost value quicker than a...I actually don't have an analogy to go with that. Anyways they're pretty dirt cheap on craigslist but good luck selling them nonetheless. And in regards to this thread's topic, I suggest getting the vibrant and buying a cheap led keychain if flash is really important to you. Although I don't suggest trying to zoom in on your photos in android's default gallery app. Just trust me, it's not pretty.
And do try to search the forum next time you have a question. It's kind of getting annoying seeing these identical threads popping up every time I come to xda.

i also have both.
you can now run android on the hd2 on top of the native windows OS via dual-boot. so far most of the builds are close to being 100 pct stable. right now, i'm running froyo with htc sense on my hd2 and getting respectable quadrant scores up to 1500. these builds also come rooted and with overclocked kernels. just some thing for you to think about if you're thinking about getting an hd2. i primarily use my hd2 for work and my vibrant as my daily driver.

People need to prioritize, they critisize it because it does not have a dual core CPU but really what good is that going to do, its a phone. It isnt like any Android app is that CPU intensive.
no HD video, doesnt matter either, HD video on phones still isnt anywhere comparable to a HD video camera. the resolution may be there but the quality isnt.
I for one rather take on time and priority Android updates over anything else.
I do like this phone, and glad i sold my N1 before the market for N1's shot down.

Damn you!!!!! Lol, I just bit the bullet on eBay on my N1, and yes, prices are lower, I took $50 less than I would've a week ago.
And criticizing something they dont own is the same thing people did with the G2, then people found out it was a really great device. It doesn't help companies or end users when people prematurely "bastardize" a device.

The Nexus 1 got ripped in its first few weeks for its dodgy clearpad 2000 screen which has support for only two touches at a time and its overlapping axis... This just shows you people are never satisfied. The N1 is one of the most important phones in history
JD
I absolutely agree. before I got the phone I read so much crap left and right. All the whining about dual core, no sd, etc...I buckled down sold my N1 and bought the Nexus S the first day and there is no looking back! best move I could have made. The phone is awesome, it's already rooted and will give you the best android experience without the bloatware(sense, touchwiz). Technology moves so fast and people are never happy. Right now, this phone kicks ass!!!

I used to hate Samsung phones (especially regular phones), but this one seems to be the best phone from Samsung and it looks very cool.
No memory card is the only thing I don't like.
I still think Google and Samsung could have done better than this. LOL. LOL
Anyhow, it sounds to me that if you already got rid of your Nexus One you don't have a choice but to now love your Nexus S.

I think this is the first topic I've read without reading a single post whining about this or that. Kudos to everyone in this topic and the whiners that didn't post in this topic. I say whiners because I see it in almost every single damn topic I read through.
I agree. Hopefully in a few weeks or so we'll see all the naysayers and doomsayers pass.
One day and we already have boot unlock (though that was admittedly pretty simple), custom recovery, root, and an optimized kernel. I only see bright things in this device's future, but that might just be the amazing screen!

Not sure why people are hating on it so much. I havent taken my hand off it for a couple hours and I absolutely love it. Definitely worth my hard earned $560
My beloved HTC Nexus One.

He was with me in the worst of times (Sony x10), and the best of times (HTC sensation, Samsung Galaxy S2).
He helped me not to lose my way (GPS), and always had something funny to say! (Youtube, twitter, joke of the day via google)
He always disliked fellow OS's that thought they had something he didn't (apple, blackberry, and most of all.....windows)
But he was NEVER a hater.....
He was the original TRAIL BLAZER, as we can all attest to his sense of voyeurism, and his want; no NEED, to be the pioneer and game changer in the washed out industry of cellular.
How can we forget his track ball that notified us who was contacting us? Or was that his way of saying.......... "Don't you forget about me." (Simple minds)
In my mind he will always be number 1. And his good friends CM7, MIUI have and will always have fond things to say about him.
I remember Steve Kondik saying once "Do you remember that one time he forgot to flash the gapps??? How embarrassing, HAHAHAHA!" It wasn't funny back then, but as time went on, the humour of the situation began to shine thru! I saw my N1 crack a smile......
He went thru numerous surgeries, swap-outs, re-boots, and firmware upgrades. And lived to tell another story.
He loved desert. Ones worth mentioning were eclair, frozen yogurt, and gingerbread. A funny thing about N1; he was always the first to the table with spoon in hand.
As we speak he is being sold for parts on Craigslist. However he was always greater than the sum of his parts.
Thank you N1!

Wonderfull.... What made you sell your n1 for parts? It was certainly more usefull in one piece....
By The Way, What phone is that in the upper left corner? Some sort of Samsung?
Yea the phone in the top corner of the pic is a Samsung galaxy note!
I was trying to fix the power button issue and accidentally crunched part of the main board
UPDATE: I've upgraded to the Galaxy Nexus...... Once a nexus fan, always a nexus fan!
Cheers guys!
How do you like it so far, coming from N1 to the GN, Ive been debating on it for a while now. Mines not dead yet got Medroid ICS running currently, but in the future when the prices drop and there are a few used ones running around, Is it a good phone worth getting. Basically what i'm asking is from your personal preferences a list of pros and cons about it.

A sad day indeed!

One of the issues with the n1 was the lack of internal memory. That ALWAYS drove me bananas. That ASIDE, it still went toe-to-toe with the heavy weights out there! My thoughts are because it was meant to be a developers phone. If you were to look at the specs of the n1 against other phones in its prime time, you would think that it would not compare. Build quality was awesome, and with android it was a match made in heaven (thanks Cyanogenmod) .
I thought a bit about what phone to get next. Creeping thru XDA helped my decision on the gnex as well as the nexus one. Both devices had/have HUGE Developer support (see cyanogenmod, aokp , miui, fransisco Franco just to name a few......)
This was my deciding factor in choosing the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. As well as ICS outta the box with hardware acceleration.
Did I forget anything, lol?!

It was a good poem, but can't really agree to it being a sad day. I don't know, I guess I don't wholeheartedly attach to any phone I buy. Sure, it's a great phone and I don't know what I would do without it, but I wouldn't mind switching it for a better one any day of the week. Though, if my only alternative was an iPhone 4S, I'd stick with the Nexus.
Regarding the internal memory. That doesn't bother me much with the use of an A2SD script. But the seemingly unsolvable issue with not being able to download big market apps is one thing that really drives me crazy.

Yea I used apps2sd as well. The bigger files drove me krazy too! I found myself cleaning cache constantly......
Uninstalling apps and then installing new apps had been my major pastime off late on my nexus.. Just to free up memory.. Clearing cache works but only sometimes...
