[Q] Remove Windows Live but keep Live Messenger - Windows Mobile

Hi, with the immanent release of Hotmail Exchange there would be no need for Windows Live in my HD2. I only need the Live Messenger part but not the email, contact and search options.
Is this possible? and how?

mmmm do you cook? if yes.... this is the correct forum to post.. and you should check your SYS.. disable the live pkgs you dont want... the BING is the searchblabla pkg and the live msn are almost at the bottom of al the pks in shared\common

Removing Pocket MSN

I just got my qtek 9100 and it came installed with pocket msn. Is there anyway I can remove this as I dont have a hotmail account and dont want the hotmail inbox. .... or is there another way of removing just the inbox.
I much prefer agile for msn anyway so dont realy need pocket msn anyway.
Any help would be appreciated.
hi buddy
try the attached file - got it from my wizard extended rom!
cheers, lutz

Its in the Windows folder and some thing like msnmsgr.exe - can't tell you for sure as I dont have it with me.
Just to finish off I placed a copy in the start menu and removed from the today screen the pocket MSN thing.

Thanks for the repsonses.
I did a hard reset and didnt start the pocket msn software, so it didnt create a hotmail inbox. I've removed it from the program icons.
The messenger software is called instmsgr.exe but if you use that it still creates the hotmail inbox.
Cheers
i too would like to know how to use msn without it making the hotmail inbox. also i'd like to get rid of the outlook email one but i could live with that staying but 2 inboxes i dont use starts to get anoying
I just use agile messenger which is free and does the same job. In fact it goes one better by including AOL, ICQ and yahoo messenger.

I simply made a shortcut in SPB Pocket Plus to a file called..... instmsrg.exe which is in the Windows folder.
To get rid of the mailbox, i guess you could hard reset, create the shortcut to instmsgr.exe then never open the Pocket MSN so the mailbox never gets made. As suggested above.

as shah said it still creates the hotmail account as soon as you sign in using the msn software. oh well guess i'll just have to use a 3rd party app for instant messaging
dean
right figured out how to remove it. go into settings / memory and stop msn and messaging. (this'll stop you having to reset)
load up a reg editor, I used resco explorer. goto HKLM/software/microsoft/inbox/svc then rename the "hotmail" key to "-hotmail" exit resco and press the power button to standby your device and save the reg changes. now if you go into messages the hotmail will be gone.
i've only just figured this out so not sure if there are any minor side effects, let me know if you notice any.
Thanks
That seems to do the trick.
Need just to decide whether to use agile or instmsgr ... The latter integrates better with the os but I think I read somewhere that it uses more data so higher gprs costs ???
I just tried this on the new rom, and it denied me access to the whole messaging package.
No Texts, nothing.
So I'm just undo-ing the change.
How can I get rid of the process called pMSNServer.exe which takes up around 300KB of my precious RAM??

Not to be contrary, but pMSNServer.exe should only be using 56kb of resident memory. I haven't seen it run since I did the following from a few posts up (though I deleted the whole key rather than renaming it):

I already deleted that key as well - I don't have the MSN Inbox in my MobileOutlook...
However, the pMSNService.exe is still running and takes up around 300KB...
which app you use to see how much space does the msn program use when running ?
thanx
I am using SKTools, but there are also many other memory managers...

Dear Lutzh,
I ran this cab on my Toshiba G900 WM6P PPC phone, to remove WLM, and it asked where to install, I chose Storage Card. Now on card I have folder Tools with a file CeSetup in it which does not have a file association. In Add/Remove programs I have nothing new that can be removed. In /windows I still have the WLM files. Did I do something wrong, what should I do next?
Thank you in advance

Live Messenger Contacts Fix

Live messenger adds all my contacts' emails to the contacts list..
is there a way to hide those like the solution of hiding sim contacts by aserg?
this is the only reason why i am so hesitant to use live messenger on my prophet!
Go to www.pocketcm.com and download the contact manager. It's a nice contact manager replacement and it have an option to hide contacts that do no have a phone number.
Or login again thrue WM Live.. ..don't complete the new account login and all WM Live contacts are removed from your list. It's not yet possible to have and WM Live Messenger and not adding them to your contact list

You have to sign on with another account on WM Live, it has nothing to do with SIM contacts.

Questions about contacts and WLM

I upgraded from WM5 to Black a couple of weeks ago, and it's been great. I just have a couple of minor things I couldn't find answers for.
1- Is there a way to make it so the contacts on the SIM don't show up in the main contact list?
2- What's the latest version of Windows Live Messenger that doesn't force you to add your Messenger contacts to your WM6 contacts list? I installed the build 1400 included with the add-ons on the Black site, and then spent a while deleting all of them from my contacts list.
With the numerous contacts that I have to have with work already, adding the multiple numbers for each person on the SIM listing plus all of the Messenger contacts really makes the list almost unmanageable. Please help...
Latest verison is 10.6.0030.0600. Grab that and hunt through the options.
Oh, and if you've manually deleted all your contacts from the phones contact list DO NOT try to connect or open Windows Live again, or you may find that it will delete all the contacts from your MSN list too!
Thanks. Any idea where I could grab that version?
Most people build it into their ROMs... Mine has this version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355439
Well, I really like everything else about the ROM I'm using, so I guess I'll have to look for some way to install it independently, if possible.
Anybody have any insight about the first question?
Thanks again.
Hunt around for the CAB file version... however I'm not sure where you would find that... It may be posted on the forums somewhere,...
Yeah, I have looked...and looked...and looked...
Thanks for you help. I'll keep looking.

Hi. Sad to say all the Windows Live contacts are already in my contact list. Is there anyway to delete them without MSN deleting them too when i try to connect to Windows Live again?

Start -> Programs -> Windows Live -> Menu -> Account Options -> Switch Windows Live ID.
Answer Yes and it should remove all the MSN contacts from your contact list.

Both installed and working well.
Thanks again.
One minor issue. This version of WLM keeps resetting itself to only check email manually after I set it to check each 15 minutes. Any ideas?

Sky Drive app?

What you guys think of a direct link Sky Drive app. would work like a open folder copy paste view as you will.
I would like to bypass any msn, signing in to live account stuff. All msn "social services" bypass all.
This would be an independent app.
Data Downloads using Opera are Very fast. Win Machines Shake hands.
You guys should try it.
What your opinions in this felasss??
Greetings to all.
hopefully live mesh will enable this

WM6.1 - Live Messenger Problem

Now, my friend gave me her Herm100 so that i can fix a few problems...
And that worked out great, i got ALMOST everything working.
Except, When she trys logging in on MSN, It Signs In with her FIRST profile.
Now, she got a new windows live account, For work use.
But every time she logs in, it takes her to her Old account.
Is there any way i can reset the Settings from Start.
Or, is there any other "Messenger" Programs. Particularly for MSN.
-Thanks
Possible Solution
If you are using Windows Live Messenger then there should be an icon called “Windows Live” in your programs menu. If it is not there then it is installed as standard in the Windows directory and is called “WLMLauncher”
Click on the icon and open the application, then click menu and account options.
You should be able to switch your Windows Live ID in there.
I hope this helps,
Dave.

I have tried but I can not seem to get this to happen on my phone.
Which version of Messenger are you using?
Also, are you synchronising your e-mail?
I am not sure but if you are synchronising your mail then it might be worth checking your server settings in active sync. This is just a guess but it might be attached to your MSN account.
I have searched the registry and there are two places where it mentions my MSN account. I deleted them but it did not seem to reset the logon under messenger. I suggest you search your registry for them and try renaming / deleting the keys referencing your account and see if that enables you to change it.
I hope some of this is of use to you, let me know the MSN version you are using, I am using Windows Live for Windows Mobile Version 10.6.0034.0800
Dave.
I posted a few attachments, check them out.
I can not seem to get my messenger to do that.
Can you please click about and tell me which version number of MSN you have?
I think a good first step would be to try reinstalling Windows Live (If you have not already done so). You can find the cab file on the following page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334621
I suggest you pick "Windows Live 10.6.0034.0800 (Fixed).zip" as it is the same version I have got and no matter what I have tried I can not get the same error as you!
Good Luck!
Dave.
Okay, now I have installed 10.6.0034.0800.
And the problem still goes on.
Its okay i guess.
Registry
I can not replicate your problem so I am only try it guess now.
Can you try doing a search of the registry and removing any reference to your windows live account and see if that changes anything?
Alternatively you could uninstall Windows Live and then remove all the registry keys relating to Windows Live and then try a reinstall.
Sorry this is getting a bit vague but I can not replicate what is happening on your phone.
Dave.
I recently installed Windows Live Messenger on a HTC Vox for a friend of mine and had the same error not being able to set the account. I installed Windows Live 10.6.0033.0600 and that fixed it.
