I have the same icon but for O2 and as far as i know that is the icon that allows you access to the provider settings request system from the start menu. If i'm right it's created when the sim card is installed by windows so you can easily update the gsm settings and tbh i think it's persistant so you can't get rid of it and if you change sim cards the icon should change too.
I could be wrong on this but if i were you i wouldn't worry about it and just ignore it. It's not doing any harm.
yes that's right that's what it does I just don't want it there lol
i don't think there is anything you can do about it because it was in that exact same place in wm5, 6, 6.1, 6.5 and it's in the same spot in the latest energy 6.5.5 rom. This makes me think we have no control over it at all and just forgetting it exists is probably for the best (and good for your blood pressure )

I think I have sorted the problem on the new Imate Rom update showing the battery instead of the clock in the top bar.
I removed the file "Windows\Startup\Init_Tray.exe".
Now the Battery still shows on the Today Screen - But the clock shows on all other screens.
As the clock is shown elsewhere in the Today Screen thats works for me.
I just have to wait and see if removing the Init_Tray.exe creates any problems - if anyone knows, please let me know.
As an alternative, the clock is shown with other things if you use WisBar from here http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/products.php?prod=WisBar+Advance
You can do the same thing by applying a reg hack or using Tweaks2k. You don't have to remove the init_tray.exe.
heh.. most of the people would consider the Battery vs Time issue to -be- the fact that it disappears on the Today screen. You can still configure the date/time to be displayed in other applications by simply going through the date/time configuration settings last I checked on the status of this.
Go to Control Panel/System/Clock and Alarms
Click on 'More' Tab. Select 'Display the clock on the title bar in all programs'. Click okay
It does the the same thing as what pewe mentioned, but without the hassle. LOL!! I can not believe you didn't spot that!?
Bye
Clock Disappearing On Today Screen
The problem with the built in 'show clock in status bar in all programs' is that it woeks for everything except the Today screen. You can add it back in as part of the day date plug in for the today screen, but that takes up space. I preferred the old version where the battery was in the system tray at the bottom, the clock showed at the top and you could add the clock to all other programs. Why do we have to go backwards with these ROM updates? :x
Erm... I belive the problem is to get RID of the battery on the taskbar, and add the clock there for the today screen like it used to be in the older roms... Sadly I've moved back to using an old dopod rom because of this little issue, and i'm not upgrading again till this is fixed
I have install the new ROM and find out that the Battery icon will show on the top right corner, and the time (clock) will show on the same level as the date
I did not find this anoying ??
I will think it's nice to have the Battery icon on the TOP
I'm I missing something ? Is there other catch ?
let me know
thanks
Update : I guess I get it, having the Time not in the top bar, will then bother when you move to other screen then the Home screen. You will then miss the time
hum hum, I have to think and see in a long term if that bother me after all.

I have 2 Wizards and found that the 'Clock on every page' worked on one but not the other, whereas removing the Init_tray.exe worked on both.
Put the file back on both this morning, and now they both work. Weird!!!
what if............
8) 8) What if someone uploads an older init_tray.exe from an original rom and we try that inplace of the current one?? 8) 8)
Can someone upload please and let us know the location?
csian, replacing the init_tray with an older version would likely only give the battery icon in the tray, if that is desired. personally i don't want ANY battery indicator (already use the battery indicator from Pocket Plus) but with the Imate rom, i still get the top bar battery indicator (ugh)... tried all the reg hacks, even with new values just to see how it responds, but didn't find one that removed the battery from the top bar... (sigh)
Just FYI.
So sorry

8) 8) Just thought it was worth a shot because the battery indicator in the tray was really only a link to power settings and not really an indicator. Getting rid of the current battery icon and putting the clock back in the top right corner is what I really want. 8) 8)
I noticed something while resetting my 9100. The clock doesn't disappear from the top bar. It is only covered by the battery meter it seems. It was on my screen for a minute before the battery meter showed up. THis makes me think that some program has been added that may also be able to be deleted.
How about it..............
8) 8) Anyone got an original init_tray.exe they can upload. (Someone with clock still in upper right hand corner of Today Screen) PLEASE. 8) 8)

Here it's and I hope it will help you to get the time back in old style!!!
This file is from T Mobile NL version!
init_tray.exe from Tmobile US MDA original ship rom
here's the init_tray from my Tmobile MDA US (prior to updating to latest kjam).
hopefully someone has some success getting that battery meter off! might scan my older registry from the Tmobile rom to see if perhaps its an entry that was added by tmobile's customizations perhaps?
peace
Edit/Note: just copied init_tray.exe from the US ship rom and all it did was add the battery meter into the tray area and the battery on top stayed.. but that migth be because init_tray.exe is in the rom and still runs... also, even by just disabling init_tray.exe from starting up (i moved the init_tray.lnk from teh startup folder and soft reset but still had the battery meter but didn't have the tray icons showing my wifi connection..) so init_tray might not be the one.. but i could be wrong too.. hehe.. still a new w/wm5 and my mda..
Thanks guy's
8) 8) Ya I tried the older init_tray files and it didn't work for me either. It must be in the registry or a dll somewhere boy I wish we could figure this out. If anyone has a registry dump for a wizard with the clock still at the top I would like to compare to my current registry and see if I can find the culprit. 8) 8)
'd get you one, but I still haven't gotten around to getting a nice clean hard reset.. so mine's littered with crap from botched installs and unclean uninstalls. If anybody else wants to try it - TRE (Tascal Registry Edit) will export the registry to a file.
Is it possible to change the icon of the best cascading menu program 'Quick menu'??? I gave a try to change the icon "Q" to the Vista Start icon using Resource Hacker. But after changing the icon, it failed to start. Can someone do it? If its possible we can have the Vista icon as the start icon without changing system files in the rom. Masters, please help...

Yeah, but you forgot to add "and get half of your ram used up by it"
I also thought of changing the QM icon a while ago, but was unsuccessful. I guess the best way would be to ask the developer to include a "custom icon" option in the QM itself, but it's been a while since i seen its dev around here so getting a message to him might not be easy. Not to mention that i have no idea if the program is still worked on - 2.7 (more than half a year old) seems to be the newest version available.

And I have another problem too... The GSM signal icon is not refreshing in WisBar... I'm having this problem since wm2003. In my country (Sri Lanka) its a problem because we dont have stable signals while traveling across the country. So even when I go out-of signals in certain areas or in a subway, it still indicates full signal....
Okay, managed to change the QM icon
You need two tools for it:
UnSigner, to remove certificate from quickmenu.exe:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1503335
You need to remove the certificate from QM first, then change the icon using resource hacker as you did before, and finally, sign the QuickMenu.exe with msigner fro here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=306982
This worked for me, however the QM icon is a bit smaller than the start menu icon, so even when you put it over the windows logo, parts of it are still visible around QM icon
So i guess that's not the way to go if you want a new start menu icon without cooking your ROM. However, this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378084&page=5
might be worth investigating.

You mean a wait cursor?
I know there are a plethora to choose from.
Try this program. I think it will better suit your needs.

Ohh all the way, i knew i could count on you, yes it is the wait cursor, somehow my original one changed and i don't know how to restore it, thanks for the program, i will give it a try but i don't really want to install another program unless i have to
Surely there is a way within windows 6.1 to change it,
I will check it out,
Thanks again
Ok, i tried that program and i don't really like it, i can't find my old cursor within it
Does anyone know where the cursors are stored, this is driving me nuts, surely there is a registry setting i can use to change it
Dear All,
Does anyone knows how to get rid of the telfort link/icon in start menu? If I delete it, it will appear again after resetting the phone It's quite annoying - I doubt if anyone ever used it.
it is probably the network settings icon that is installed by your sim card. just move it to the bottom sand forget about it.
Dear samsamuel,
If this is the only option I will stick to that.
i used to deelete mine but now i also just leave it (called Natel on mine) and it does indeed come from the providers sim programming
It sometimes re appears after deleting it or at least it does on my o2-uk handset. BSBTweaks has an option to turn off the sdk service so the icon does not come back anymore after deleting.
Great!
Thats what I was looking for! No annoying icon after reset. Thank you very much.
hello at all
what ist this for an icon on the left side of the USB icon?
I never see this bevor. i know whats the icon for, but theres no way to make the icon invisible.
I flasht a new rom, and there is it too.
3 roms i tryed, on 2 is this icon.
i dont like it, because it was never there
is there a way to make this invisible?
i hope you can help me
do you have 2 lines active on your sim card? im sure its something like that, now its that icon i remember
i never change the settings, were can i do that?
Is there really now way to delete this icon or to make it invisible?
No cab or editor to overwrite this?
This is specific for Orange-provider (at least here in Austria):
The provider -code is: 0699, then comes 1 (meaning line 1) and then Your specific personal cell-phone number
Orange leaves the opportunity to have TWO cell-phone numbers on ONE SIM-Card, the second number then would show 2 (line 2) when active
There is no way to delete THIS, You have to live with it (except someone of the experts finds out exactly which manila-file is connected to this sign and manages to blank it out, but methinks this won´t happen)
I think i use the old rom, perhaps on a new version they use an other manilla file.
I cant live with this icon^^
thanks for you help and a nice weekend
