Hi, guys.
When I make a picture with my HD2, the flashlight is too much strong...
Is there a way to reduce the lights?
Thank you,
Luigi.
Up close the in-built flash will be strong...
Go to settings and turn the brightness down... That will help...

In the settings can reduce only the brightness of LCD Display, don't reduce the double LED Lights...
First of all: Rom version and which hotfixes you have?
camera flash light
This is already known problem with lots of description in other threads.
Basicly the problem is camera timing when flash light is in auto mode, because light meassurements are done before flash blink or there is some delay, and therefore pictures are overexposed.
Simple solution is to change flash mode before you make a picture from AUTO to ON, and than make a picture. Light meassurement will be much stable.
Somewhere was mentioned that there is already a fix for this problem, maybe rumors maybe not, so some search can be usefull
You have right, but if author having old 1.4x ROM, where was huge problems with flash, so he should update ROM or install hotfix from HTC site.
Thats why i ask about ROM version.
Well, this is very tricky part from HTC, that ROM updates(or even partial fixes) have no description which problems were fixed.
This is the reason why also people have very various experiences with this device.
Try putting your finger infront of the flash while taking the picture

Is there an application to turn on and off the so-called flash on the camera without launching the camera app itself? In other words is there a simple way to use my $500 phone as a $0.50 LED light?

I thought that used the screen backlight - I specifically want to turn on the LED flash on the camera side...
Nope, I'm wrong - looks like it does exactly what I wanted:

I'll have to try it on the TyTn....
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Hello vijay, is there any chance to have it working on Asus P525?, this ppc has the facility to record video with flash on.
I been trying your candela but dosen't work.
I can look into it - but it's not a device I've ever used so unlikely. Can you get me a rom dump? Thanks... V
Works!

I think that it will be enough for you, but please advice if you need more info.
Cheers mate.
also looking for a program for this. hope vijay can help us.
it says that doing this will cause permanent damage to the led
What does?
Leaving the flash on for too long will cause the flash to blow on some devices. Some guys have had it running for days. Some have blown it after a few hours.
I limit its use to 30 seconds I think, in VJCandela. However, you should use it with your own caution. But now, it won't blow your flash with a single use or whatever.

The LED is obviously over driven to make it bright enough for use with the camera and in normal use it is restricted to only short bursts.

With P525 if you are in video mode you can hold the led illuminated, so i think that if you don't use it for very long time the led will not be damaged.
Hello there vijay...
a question for you regerding vj candela and hermes...
you may have already noticed that when you use the flash light in hermes to take a picture with default camera apps...then the flash light up bit more (say double) brighter for a few second just in time of taking the picture...
so my question is it possible in ur apps (vj candela) to use that extra doubled light rather then the normal brightness??? its just a request i know that turning the flash in high mode may shorten the life span of the bulb but i just interested to see the implimentation...
and one more request...can you add a feature in ur vj candela so that when we use the hardware mode lightup then the screen brightness will turn it off automatically and will reverd back after the flash get off...
anyways thanks a million for what u have done for us all..
br.
Sajib
Maybe that's why this is damaging some devices, because it's using the brighter mode that only works in bursts with the camera.
Actually, I just did some quick testing using the ambient light sensor on my macbook pro (how's that for resourcefulness?). It's not exactly scientific, but whatevs.
I read the value of the ambient light sensor from the camera flash from a height of 10". This test was done with a Cingular 8525.
Turning on the flash in the camera program: 1024
Light from VJCandela: 1024
Light when turning of flashlight mode in the camera settings: 1200
Light during flash: 1450
So it appears that my theory was wrong. If anything, the camera flashlight is stronger than the regular flash mode. Although I suspect they are exactly the same - like I said this wasn't exactly a scientific way of testing...
Sorry, not sure if I understood the thread - the Camera app/Flash driver has a "burst" flash mode, a normal flash mode, and and off mode.
Burst flash is brighter then normal flash, and is used in the instant that you take the photo - this normally causes the screen to go off for a second though. My app uses "normal" flash mode, which should be safe for relatively short periods (eg 1 min). Burst flash is for a few seconds max I guess.

Yeah, that bugged me when I first got my 8525. Try holding your stylus on the link and selecting "Save As," instead of just clicking on it.

yea sorry that's wat I meant.. the backlight brightness..
oh sorry... so many posts, i dont read closely anymore
dont think thats possible, the cam always pust full brightness when runing it and goes back to original settigns when closing it..
maybe try coolcamera, that app i think does not do that..
no
No. I'm looking for the one that does do that.. a little while ago I flashed my fone with AKU 3.3 and the camera application was just like the one that comes with the fone except that when I started the camera the brightness on the fone witself when up to maximum.. which in turn let me see the picture that I was going to take better. and when I closed it. the brightness of the backlight went back to the regular brightness that I had.. and that's what I'm looking for. but I don't want to flash my fone again. because I don't want to lose everything that I have on it..
I am too looking for that patch/fix for my cingular 8125
maybe thats what you want?

One of the "accidental" features of our phone is that the camera "flash" can be used as a GREAT flashlight when you're out in the dark. I probably use it once or twice a week, and I am sure I am not the only one. I was wondering however, if it might be possible to enable the LED without opening up the camera program.
Since I have winmo 6.5 installed, I was thinking about maybe taking advantage of the Titanium plugins, or perhaps even a mortscript application to make the flashlight a homescreen option. I'm new to phone modding, but I have coding experience so it shouldn't be too hard for me to figure out.
If this seems possible, I am willing to put in the effort of making it, but I'd like to know if it seems doable before I start coding or anything.
Thanks in advance.
hi all,
i use the flash as light like you.
one year ago i tryed to find an API to write a little application to poweron/poweroff the camera flash led but without success.
can anyone share with us some experience about this?
in alternative you can use an application called plamp that use the screen like a camera flash led. it is not the same but it is useful, also configuring an hardware button.
regards, Soldato
i used to use a mortscript that would launch teh camera then turn on the flash after 10 seconds it will auto close the camera app.
only down side was that the camera app would take about 10 seconds to load anyway (for my phone) so it was not a instant flash light.

Yeah that's part of the reason I would like to just skip the camera app altogether. It would be nice to have the light on quickly and not have the camera on.

Unfortunately I'm not experienced in coding for PPCs. So my question:

Basically, the camera flash can be controlled in this way:
Use CreateFile() to get the Camera handle :-
CreateFile( _T("CAM1:") ....... )
then, use DeviceIoControl() to send command, this is the most important step, I don't know how to fill the InBuffer in order to turn the flash on.

Is this a comedy post? There's nothing slow or buggy about 1.48.
Tonearm,
Do you want to list what your problems are? Is it slow and buggy from rom installation or after you have loaded it up with shedloads of texts and apps?
I have been using 1.48 from day 1, absolutely no problems at all, at least not of the "slow and buggy" kind.
WB
No, seriously. Original HTC firmware. Fresh install.
Syncing calendar and contacts via Active Sync. Downloading mails from 2 accounts (each about 1000 mails).
I swear, that my TouchPro2 was quicker in relation to the processor!
When will 1.60 or higher come?
Mine came with 1.48 installed, no problems for me either.

Main thing that is bugging me is, that I push a button to light up the screen from standby and the screen stays black, while buttons light up.
Unacceptable!
Second. Camera flashlight shoots photos with blue faces.
Third. Overall performance. As soon something is working on the device it´s a little stuttery.

I agree with the other posters mate - I'm on 1.48 and it's neither slow nor buggy.
Incidentally, downloading mails has nothing to do with the processor. That's purely down to your connection speed. Have you tried doing it over wifi?

Of course over Wifi.
Speed isn´t my only concern as you could read.
I´m disapointed with the progress of the firmware.
Everywhere you can read about the bugs of the device and there are dozens of cooked firmwares.
Afaik HTC offered the new 1.60 firmware in a few countries inofficially, but not in germany.
When will the progress go on with optimizing the software of the device?

HTC have never offered the 1.60 ROM to anyone - it's been "leaked".
I only mentioned the speed issues because you gave that as an example of what your problems are.
If you can actually explain your problems then we can probably help with some of them. Alternatively, search for each of the individual problems and you'll find answers for some of them on here.
Incidentally, the majority of people have only minor issues, so if you have more than your fair share of problems then you're basically one of the unlucky people. There is a LOT of help to be had on this site, but you need to be clear as to what you need help with.
The 1.60 ROM will probably not solve your problems, especially if you can't tell people what they are!

There's a thread on this started by Beards in the LEO thread. Implement the solution in there.
Second. Camera flashlight shoots photos with blue faces.
Another separate thread on this in LEO (can't remember what its called. There are 2 solutions on offer; one is to use an app called TorchButton, the other is to set the flash on manually, get the camera to set itself, take your shot, turn the flash off. I usee this latter solution, takes me seconds. Just another way of taking a shot, same as you can find different ways of taking a shot with a true dedicated camera.
Third. Overall performance. As soon something is working on the device it´s a little stuttery.
Aha, you definitely NEED to read the Hints & Tips thread on here as there are numerous solutions there. Strikes me you have too many apps running in the background, not being closed off properly, plus you might re running out of memory as well.
Also if you are getting stuttery performance when watching videos you might want to install Chainfire's solution

If these are examples of what you are experiencing, see my responses above.
To get the best out of your device you will have to tweak it a little.

Hello,
I was wondering how I can stretch the time a LED notification is visible (blinking time).
As it is now, the LED stops blinking after about 5 minutes. This is to short for me.
Any idea how to adjust this timing?
