Custom alarm ring tones - Legend General

HI , same as the title , where do we drop files ( what folder and where ) to add them for the desktop alarm clock to customize the alarm sound ?
Cheers
/T

if you use "zegde" it shows up as an other option different from the htc alarms...
mayby you could install zegde and copy your files to the zegde folder ?
(btw: zegde is a usefull app for alarms, ringtones and wallpapers !)

just create the folder Alarms, Notifications & Ringtones in the SD card. put the songs, noise, mp3, etc in the folder(s) respectively

Unable to use mp3 as ringtone

I am using basic install on my O2 exec but now I am not able to use mp3 as ringtone while earlier with O2 active installed I was able to use them Pl help
I am using Basic Mode and I can use MP3 as ringing tone.
This is what I did:
1) Copy the MP3 file I want to use as a ringing tone to this directory on the XDA EXEC: \windows\rings
2) then go to : START -> SETTINGS ->PHONE : use the drop down here to choose your ringing tone.
Thanks for reply I see my file in windows/ring but it does not play.In fact option of using any song as ringtone has gone from dropdown list must be some correction needed in registry pl help
i've got the same problem. using a basic install on the jasjar i can no longer use MP3 files for a ringtone. Anyone got any ideas?
thanks
Mikey Mike :?:
got it sussed. i was using pocketmusic as my default mp3 player. as soon as i uninstalled pocketmusic mp3 tracks worked as ringtones again :!: so, either you have great personalised ringtones or you use a great mp3 player - can't have both :?:

Oh and something else
You don't have to put the ringtones in the Windows\Rings folder. You can place them in your storage card but at the root level... Not in anyone folder. (\Storage Card)
And you're set

how to set my customed ringtones for Alarm or Text message notification

Hi there,
i have search in the full device, but i can't set one of my ringtones for text message notification except the stock htc ringtones, and i can't find a menu to set a ringtone for the Alarm ( my wake up morning alarm for example)
is there something i missed , or an application to manage this ? or may be there is a method to save ringtones ( size , format, during time of the audio file)
if somebody knows it will be great .....
Charles
for the ringtone for messages you need to go to Application Data\Sounds and paste your ringtone there. (MS makes it easy for you right? --> NOT)
setting the alarm sound can be done via start->settings->system tab-> clock & alarms.
From there on you can click on the alarm bell to select a sound.
As for the alarm, i'm figuring out that one myself. It seems no .mp3 can be used for the alarm sound. I think it needs to be a .wav file.
If anyone has a solution for the alarm, please post!
Use a great program on my xda2i called Alarmtoday. It's excellent, but today screen based... unsure how it'll work with tf3d.
I have also heard someone tout a program called ptravel alarm. I'm getting my HD early this week and I WILL be working on this so i'll keep watching this thread.
thanks for the path ...i will try for the text message sound ......
regarding the Alarm sound choice , it's really amazing that you don't a menu to pick you favorite mp3 ringtone and make it your alarm sound .... i'm an old iphone user but a 8 years nokia user , and i always had the choice .....
.... hope you will find a way for this .....
Charles
the Diamond has a program called MP3 Trimmer which places the file in the right folder, i'd heard the HD had this program?

yes it does
i'v tried with the wav file for my text message notification and it works if stored in Application data / sounds ...but i have shell32,exe error message .....
hummm not so good.
for the alarm issue: i converted an mp3 song of 3,5 mo in wav format and the result is a wav file of 35 mo !!!!! i think it's too big for just a sound file and i didn't try to store it and set ti as default alarm tone .....
seriously guys, check for a third party program like I mentioned,
I use ALARM TODAY and it is excellent. MP3 alarm is just one of many functions.
It needs to be in "wma" format, if you want to assign your own sound to the text/mail alerts its has to be "wma", iv tried "mp3" and "wav" but it never worked. "wma" worked for me.
Thanks for the tip ..... i will try in wma file format ......
i don't want to use many third party programs..... the device is unstable with lot of stuff installed on it ...i want to learn how to use the WM6 goods but it seems to be complicated for some simple things !!!!!
MS needs to hurry with their WM7..... it's not acceptable that setting a ringtone or messagetone is this difficult. I would have expected that if i choose the property of a mp3 i can use that mp3 to:
- set as ringtone
- set as messagetone
- set as alarm
- set as ...
How hard can that be?
i totally agree ...... i don't understand why this kind of device can't do what can do a 25 euros nokia phone .... it's nonsense .....
i've been using a program called audacity for my ringtones and for my messages.
Under 'My Documents' there's a 'My ringtones' folder - I threw all mine in there, although it seems that you dont necc. have to (have to say, it's much easier/better organised on WM6.1 HD - it was a little awkward on the Cruise)
It seems no .mp3 can be used for the alarm sound. I think it needs to be a .wav file.

I didn't know that - although - it has to be said that the alarm program in WM is retarded. I use my phone as my daily alarm clock, have for years - there's no PRACTICAL 'snooze' option in WM - anyway, my solution - SPB TIME - works like a dream (pardon the pun...) and the snooze buttons are nice and big enough, even for my sleep fogged brain...
ringtone alarm problem
Hi
I found the solution of problem ringtone alarm
You have convert sound files to wma format and copy in windows folder
Disconnect USBcable and happy this!!
Sorry my english
ringtone/alerts
i have been converting and using my own ringtones and message alert tones for a while now,
mp3 files work as ringtones if you put the trimmed down version (as only 30 secs is useful) in the /Windows/Rings folder
the message alerts and alarm alerts you need .wav files placed inside the /Windows folder itself.
i just use copy and paste from my PC in active sync mode to put the files there and then use the 'Sounds and Notifications' to assign them.
i use smallest wav file ie 5/6 sec for the alerts but longer versions could possibly work..
thanks
i have made a cab file with a few tones and each of these tones will be installed into the correct place for you to choose under the right heading
www.ourhtc.co.uk/l6cum tones.cab is where i have uploaded it to (7.5MB)
contains approx 5 ringtones and 4 alert tones
rather than using the phone memory for ringtones and other tones, u can create a "My Documents" folder on memory card and put all your tones inside there be it mp3,wma, wav or any other format the phone supports, then select them from "sounds and notifications"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466760
For calls:
Can place wma, wav, or mp3 in \My Documents\My Ringtones
Or:
Can place wma, wav, or mp3 in \Windows\Rings
For other sounds / alerts:
Simply place wma, wav, or mp3 in \Windows Folder
if you create a "My Documents" folder on storage card, out all your tones inside there, be it ringtone tone, mms tone, sms tone or even activesync tone, which is wat i did i added a modem dialup tone to active, all coming from the storage, i can more a less guarantee that they will work from storage card even its its wav the phone will pick it and use where its required. personally i wouldnt use the phone storage for any tones

I'm not debating that, it's just that there seems to be a lot of confusion and I am positive that the method I posted works...although it is probably better / faster to store tones on the device as data in device memory is faster read then data on the card.
The tones take up SO little memory that...there are no advantages to storing on the card, but you may have slight ringtone delays (disadvantage) if you store on card.

As far as I'm aware your ringtone wether mp3 or wav needs to be on the internal memory and not the storage card.
Copy ringtones to windows/rings
But these shouldn't take up much space on your phone anyhow, plus you couild always crop the length of each tune to minimize the size
create a folder on your SD card called My Documents. Your HD should find all music placed in this folder when you search for ringtones.

My apologies. Wasn't aware of this as I had tried doing this before but put all my ringtones into a folder within My Documents and phone didn't pick them up.
Great to know this, cheers bro
On my storage card my ringtones are in a My Ringtones folder inside My Documents and work fine.

Yeah I have this now, but originally I had this folder called My Rings
Didn't initially realise you had to be precise with the naming. Thought phone would have the ability to pick this up
All ok now though
Glad it worked.
Use file explorer on pda to find the tune (mp3) you want to use. Press and hold with stylus on the file (mp3), box pops up giving you option to set as ring tone. Easy peesy

Transferring own ringtones

I can't seem to be able to copy any music file into the alarm file .
I want to use my own music file to wake up in the morning .
If someone knows how ?
Many thanx
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
I would also like to know the answer... on other forum I read that for Desire, you have to create a media folder, create audio folder in it and then inside audio folder you have to create 3 folders - ringtones, alarms and notifications. Then put some files into these, and after restart, new sounds should appear in the settings. I tried this on Wildfire but it does not work for me I can change a ringtone for calls, but no succes with alarms and message/notifications
anyone knows??
Folder named "alarms" in the SD card.
It could be that you need to put alarm in the filename.
You can use Zedge. A ringtone and wallpaper app. Most of the sounds arent good but some are better than HTC's. You can find it on market
Great, works, thanks It just took a little while for sounds to show up
I am using Zedge - great app
Eureka!
Put your ringtones to /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones (if doesn't exist create)
Put your notifications to /sdcard/media/audio/notifications (if doesn't exist create)
Put your alarms to /sdcard/media/audio/alarms (if doesn't exist create)
It is simple, isn't it?

[Q] how to set custom ringtone on Android 2.3 system?

I've got a problem with it. In settings there is limited list of built-in tunes and no way to add custom mp3. Trick with creating sdcard/media/audio/ringtones didn't work =\
you can also choose it from the Musicplayer
open the musicfile in the player then press menu and choose as ringtone
Oh, thanks problem solved. I'm not using default player so it was not so clear
Btw problem with custom notification sound is still open
Sent from my HTC click using XDA Premium App
The correct path on the SD card for this trick to work is:
/media/audio/notifications/*filename*.mp3
Also, it only works for notification sounds, not for ringtones.
I use a apps Rings Extended
When you chose a ringtone you can continue with android system or rings extended, and you can chose between Music, Ringdroid or select music track
on your sd card make 3 seperate folders
Ringtones (for ringtones)
Notifications (For message tone)
Alarms (for Alarm tone)
put your mp3 to which one u need

Yea, it works, tnx. But is there similar path for ringtones? i tried /media/audio/ringtones/*filename*.mp3, but id didn't work. Well, there is still option with music player and setting mp3 as ringtone.
/media/audio/ringtones/*filename*.mp3 worked for me!
you can just use some app to use custom ringtones like Ringer.
Thanks & great answer
