So I'm new to the whole rooting scene I have been studying these forums amongst other places anyway the real in depth stuff is over my head. I guess my real question is from someone who knows what there talking about, what's the progress on the perm root? What's the big obstacle now besides the obvious anti root thing and when may we see some results? Is this truly imposible or will we have a true perm root soon?

The progress is happening over here:

Thanks this gives me more info than I had on what is devolping, but still doesn't answer the questions like when, and they way this guy is talking it sounds like this perm root may not happen

Please use the search and browse the forums. There are TOO MANY posts on this already... Duck, flaming incoming...
Maybe that's the problem to much stuff to sort through a lot of posts are nonsence anyway no sence arguing just thought a few good valid answers would be great then could be deleted for all I care but I guess that's to much to ask for on a [email protected] forum wow

Should it be possible w/o a smart card, it'll be ready when it's ready. People should know better than to ask devs for a release date when they're not directly employing them.

Being discussed now in IRC!

Way to add to this thread guys one good actual response the people complaing about multiple theads just fill them with junk trash talk on forums when people are trying to get answers doesn't sound productive to me. And why should I not ask about progress? That's offensive, what get off your high hourse if you can't answer a question just don't say anything. Why fill with crap no one thinks your cool by doing that

Hi, i barly got my phone 2 days ago and i been researching on how to update it. I have AT&T provider in U.S.
I see people have debranded, flash, rooted....i can't tell the difference between what this is. And most refer their x10 as an x10a (most likely they have Rodgers as carrier (Canada if i am correct).
Can someone please guide me through updating my SE Xperia x10 1.6 -> 2.1.
I'd like to update it so i can still receive updates from SE website if that is possible. I am new to smart phones and don't know where to start really, if someone can guide me that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Ok to update your phone head to the Sony Ericson website and download PC companion http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup.../detailed/pccompanion/xperiax10us?cc=us&lc=en and it will talk you through the update process. Really it's very easy. There are plenty of custom roms out there now and if your feeling up to it iv made a guide to walk you through just follow the link from my signiture. The x10 comes in 4 main forms x10i (Europe) x10a (america and south American nations) there's a japenesse version (docamo, can't remember precise spelling sorry) and x10 HD which comes with 2.1 pre installed. I hope this information helps you along your journey of exploration of smart phones and believe me you made a good choice getting an x10 and with news of getting a gingerbread update in the summer I'm sure you'll feel very satisified with your phone very soon

Wait a minute. He said he has AT&T, which means that PC Companion or SEUS will be of no help to him. AT&T is still on 1.6.
@101381
What you need to do is check your private messages. I will send you a detailed guide that I have helped many fellow AT&T users with.
Btw, X10a "a" is for Americas. We broadcast on different frequencies.
Why don't you post the guide here?
Then every at&t user could update easily

Because I would get 50 replies saying that there are tons of threads on this already, use search button, and mods please delete.
However, there are just as many new threads like this one, so you have a point. Just have my back when all the flamers and whiners chime in.
Will do tomorrow. Let me clean it up a bit and add some stuff on root, xrecovery, JIT and removing apps.

Well excuse me for not knowing, I have an x10i and live in England. I answered as best I could with the information provided.
It would be flash tool you need to update then.

Please don't spam our new users thread up, there is no need. I was trying to help and I honestly didn't know at & t were still stuck on 1.6 so PC companion wouldn't work and I adviced to the best of my knowledge.
I don't apriciate your comments and remarks towards me and you should speek with more respect towards your fellow and more senior members.
Point made, back to topic now.

Your the one who went off topic on me. There was no need for your reply. Treat me with respect and I will return the favor. This is not the first time you've jumped in personally on me. I love how you spam at will, then jump on others for it.
What would you have rather me done? Not tell him the correct answer, just so a more senior member didn't get his feelings hurt?

All I said was same attitude. There is nothing offensive in that. Everyone has an attitude. Do you not like yours or something? Now if I used an adjective in front of attitude I could see your point. Heck, I even put a wink and a smile, meaning all in good fun.
Once again, you don't have to get so defensive. Lighten up. After all, now you are the gingerbread man. Great new name btw. ))

Problem with your guide is that my X10 is still on 1.6 and I can't seem to get xRecovery on my phone.
You wont if your on 1.6, you need to download a global generic Sony firmware and flash it with the flash tool, then root and install xrecovery with flashtool and start my guide for custom rom from my guide if your feeling up to it.

Also, I am betting they have already visited those threads. I even use them in my guide. The problem with the guides is they don't explain the steps, which for someone trying this the first time is not helpful, even frightening. It takes an experienced noob to explain it to a noob.
EDIT: Here is the link to my guide that I posted at FLO's request.

Don't do anything other than install apps and enjoy looking at content on your Tab. As you find uses for the thing then you may find the need to tweak it in some way. But, many newbies try to put the cart before the horse re: enhancements and end up screwing up something.

So I have been looking around on the web for the past couple of weeks if my Samsung SPH-D700 is able to be rooted with the current firmware and what tools required for my firmware but I cannot locate exact answers to fulfill my curiosity.
My phone information:
Sprint Samsung Epic 4G
Model: SPH-D700
Firmware Version: 2.3.6
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.EL30
Hardware Version: D700.0.5
-Is it possible to root with my current firmware/settings?
-Do I need to go to a different firmware? If so, how do I downgrade?
-If I can Root, Can I use Super One Click?
--If not, can someone please link me to the files I need to Root...
You do not understand how grateful I will be if I can get these questions answered. Please & Thank you.
You should go on Youtube and look up qbking77. His videos should answer all of your questions

I can remotely root your phone with teamviewer. Google it download and install the all in one and PM the id and password if you'd like.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Google what? Super one click? I can do the teamviewer. Just when we do it...please show me where you are locating the necessary files so I can keep them in my memory for when I need to update, etc.
My apologies for seeming so ignorant, I just haven't been an android user. I've been with Apple since the beginning and now I got my hands on this awesome phone and discovered how amazing android OS actually is.
Also I have checked those videos from qbking77 but they never directly answered my questions. I could never find out if 2.3.6 was rootable.
Thanks and I will get you my teamviewer information soon.
Besides losing all my music and Apps, will I have to retype my sprint account information to get service back on my phone after rooting or all I need is my Google market account info and import my contacts from Google...
I don't know my sprint account information.

You don't loose your music your music is located on your sd card usually.. and your apps you can backup. And you only loose these if you flash a custom ROM. Otherwise if you just want stock rooted you'll keep everything. This won't disable your sprint info and google will sync your contacts if you make sure to sync it prior to flashing a new ROM.
I was really new to all this also... and would kindly take you under my wing and help you understand somethings. whenever your ready and I have time send me your id and password and ill walk you through everything. And explain and give you options along the way.
