anyone know how to video chat with HTC HD2 i tried but says error.?
Where is the video chat option on the HD2 (you're using the t-mobile version on t-mobile.. right?)..
Can you use the front camera (even without the video chat)?
I'm curious about this too.
How do you plan to video chat with a phone that has no front camera?

that would not be a camera. those two things left of the ear piece are sensors. One for light and the other is the proximity sensor to turn the screen off during a call while the phone is next to your face.

WOW is right..
dee-dee-dee... here's your sign!
better question is... "how did he try, that it gave him an error" ha! lol
some people just dont take a moment to analyze things before they run asking questions...
It seems that its easier to run and create an account on XDA, create a new thread, type it out and wait for a reply than it is to seach google or yahoo for the key words... "video chat HD2"
btw you can video chat with out the front facing camera i use to do it all time on my tp2 using qik its just very annoying wen you have to keep turning the phone wen you want to look at the other person and wen you want them to see you.

If you're referring to the use of the Athena's camera over WiFi for a video conference i'm looking for a solution to this as well. Some software that accesses the camera and let's you do a peer to peer type of communication.
If you're referring to the Video call feature, I don't have 3G here so I haven't tested this feature.
Microsoft Portrait should be able to do that, but I haven't been able to get it working with the front facing camera, so it's a bit pointless at the moment

ltxda,
Yes, this is exactly what I am looking for. I will poke around MSFT Portrait and see if that does the trick.

I tried portrait not ling after I got my Athena. It would only use the back camera and that was upside down! It would not offer the internal camera for selection.
Haven't tried under WM6 though!
Let me know if you have more luck!!

I tried it under WM5 also and it totally sucked. Wasn't worth the download. If you guys try it let me know. Way too slammed right now to play with the phone.

I've tried 'Webcamera Plus' from Ateksoft to try out the security cam functionality and it seems to work quite well, not sure how good it is with MSN e.t.c, but there is a demo available.
http://www.ateksoft.com
There are a few threads here on it too.

thanks for the reply digital.diablo, but correct me if i am wrong, it appears that the webcam plus software transforms the camera function on ur phone (such as the htc x7500) into a webcam that can use for your PC, and not a webcam that can be used of the phone it self to have a live video conference.
is that right? if so, any other ideas?
thanx
Ahh, sorry, misunderstood what you were after. Yeah, Webcamplus is simply a way of using the onboard camera in your gadget as a webcam, so you could use it to video conference from your pc.
Not sure about your conferencing from the PDA though I'm afraid. Good luck on your quest!

i'll think about it. i doubt my friends would be interested to install a new software just so i can use my video viewers. maybe there is a messenger service that connects to all messenger services and has the software support to video calls.
if anyone knows of such a software do share the info
So i have the euro Diamond with the front face cam and im in the US...since we cant really use the front face cam for video calls...i wanted to know if there is a app out there (or in dev) that would allow me to use the cam for video calls over WiFi with people who are on AIM, MSN, or iChat, or any other chat service/app...
Yeah if the Skype client would do this then it'd be fab.
Seems unlikely though. Too much bandwidth.
eh i guess not...

umm no not that...basically, i was thinking of an app which will let me video chat with other people on their computers (they will be using their webcam) while ill be on my diamond using the front faced camera...so video calls on WiFi...but using an app to communicate with other people on AIM, or iChat, or MSN, etc.

Yes I had the same problem, I deinstalled it already.
It is also not possible to choose cam2: (front cam)
this is a really really old non-finished project...Passport does not even exist anymore...
The front cam is not supporting it seems so i too uninstalled and i have to look for some other alternative.

thanks.. nice program.. this maybe achieve the topic starter target ...
Here i quote from Barablu website
Not just a pretty face!
Still dreaming about the day you can see who you are talking to on your mobile – sci-fi style?
With the latest version of barablu you can do exactly that! FREE.
Video calls are now MOBILE!
barablu enables you to receive free video calls on your mobile*. See who you are talking to, no matter where you are in the world!
Mobile video calls are possible between PC and mobile users where both devices have the latest version of barablu installed. Although the mobile user will see the PC users, the PC user won’t be able to see the mobile user (yet).
How do I make a mobile video call?
Easy. Download the latest version of barablu, get a webcam and start making free video calls.
If your friend does not have a webcam, he will still see you, but you won’t see him. This principle is the same for mobile video calls. The person on the mobile will see you, but you won’t see him.
How much does it cost?
Nothing…absolutely zero*.
Did you know?
You can transfer your latest video clip or photos from your mobile to your PC with barablu. Learn more
*to use barablu on your mobile you will need an Internet data plan

Dear friends, i have a question: it's possible to enable hd2 to receive videocall with a modification of a registry key. Who know this key?
Thank's.
ProjektFuze said:
well probably not cause info like this would've surfaced by now... plus.. its would be pointless... the screen is on the back of phone.. which means you'd have to stare at the back so the video is being played of you.. but then you wouldn't get to see the video of who you're talking to on the front screen... either that or every person that video calls you just never gets to see you.. which is kinda one sided and lame.. who would want video calling like that

LIKE I SAID... if there was video calling.. it wouldn't be the front faced video calling which is actually the only type of video calling that makes "sense"

If the HD2 could do video calls one could call his wife to show what the kids are doing, you could show someone something at the store. I rather look at something interesting instead of the person am talking to... I have often seen that person many times before.
@ Salvestro, how do you even know that it's possible?

Yes it's possible with Rodhium pad. It's possible to enable videocall and conference.
But i search only the key/s.
hi ya´ll
this issue regarding videocall has been discussed alot earlier, and the conclusion was that it wouldn´t be possible with a reg tweak, several people tried to find a solution, and it all ended up like the "is video-out possible"thread, i´m very said to say that the illusional "video call" and "video-out" currently havent been made possible for the great HTC leo, and with all the great cooks and app developers, i think that the chances are slim to none... unfortunetly
would be great tho if it were

I can hear both sides of the call clearly.
And its still on the market place for 5 bucks.
As long as Android doesn't provide the necessary API's, you won't find a decent solution.
