How To Disable HTC Messenger?!?!?!?!?!?!? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

I HATE htc messenger and have been looking nonstop for a cab to disable it with no luck....PLEASE HELP!

Not sure how to disable it completely or if you have the old one still...? But google or forum search for something called "classic sms tweak" or like "sense classic sms tweak". I use it for sense 2.1 and going to SMS tab and clicking on the text brings me to the old and awesome windows mobile 6.1 SMS client !
That's as much as I can help if you use sense? Not sure if it's what you're looking for but give it a try.

1.) Install the 1st cab in this post to disable the HTC Messaging.
2.) Soft Reset
3.) Install any WVGA arcsoft .cab. I used this one by provided in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624375
4.) Soft Reset.
5.) Install the AT&T Settings.cab. This will add in the proper MEdia Net settings and ArcSoft settings for AT&T subscribers. *Note* You may need to go Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced and select MEdia Net from the list of profiles if it doesn't come up correctly.
I also added some network tweaks into the AT&T Settings.cab that I have picked up from various users all over this forum.
This may not work for all users on all ROMs but so far so good with me.

Search for "htc messaging" in thread titles or read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556614 or this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=670224

i'm using stock rom sense 2.1 what buru898 was talkin about is what im lookin for if anyone has or know where that cab could be found it would be much appreciated

Hey I would have uploaded it before but was on my phone ;p.
Here you go man. I like my ROMS super fast instead of eye candy (even though it does look damn pretty) and also disable the stupid HTC volume because it loads up faster and I like the ringer and text/alert tones at different volume levels so if you want that one I put it here too .

I flashed a new rom yesterday and now when I write a sms I don't have the count of characters. Is that also a "feature" of the new htc messenger?
I often wrote messages of 161 to 165 characters but couldn't check it now. Any fix?

Had my HD2 a few days, got some questions...

Hi -
I've had my HTC HD2 for a few days now, and I'll be putting my sim card in and switching to full use from tomorrow. My network is Vodafone UK. I just had a few questions and would really appreciate if someone could answer? I have already got through the main stickies and done some tweaks by the way.
1. Vodafone haven't released any official updates for the firmware themselves, and HTC doesn't allow Vodafone UK users to download them of their own website (other than hotfixes). So I just wanted to know, what am I missing out on by being stuck on the original firmware that the phone came with? DO the official updates make a big difference?
2. Auto-rotate seems to only work on some applications. Can I get it working on the home screen and ALL applications?
3. What can I do to improve my typing? I've set it to T9 and I'm slowly adjusting to it but it's still quite slow. Also, when is there anyway to automatically improve grammar? For example when I start sentences they do not automatically start with a capital letter and I have to do that manually...
4. I get an error with the camera/camcorder if Opera 10 Beta is installed. The camera will only work when it's uninstalled. Is there anything I can do to get around this?
5. Any must-have applications/games?
6. Is there anyway I can edit the registry on the HD2 through my PC?
Thank you!
I think if you search ... you will get the answer for most of your questions
1. Official Updates Makes the operating system more stable.... i upgraded to 1.48 and its much more stable.
2. you can add almost all programs to autorotate using BSB tweak (except home screen)
3. Typing is a universal problem ... search and you will find several topics and tweaks
4. Havent tried opera 10 yet... as it doesnt support pinch to zoom (multitouch)...
5. Must have apps (Skyfire.. wayyyyy faster than opera)
must have games (experiment 13, and xtract) both available to download on xda...

Thanks for the quick reply.
1. Do you know if there's anyway for me to get around the Vodafone block and upgrade then?
Also I can't find the setting to disable vibration while typing. Any ideas?
And also, any answer to question 6 which I just added?
Thanks

1.Yes. Gold card. I haven't done it, but browse this forum, there are plenty instructions.
2.Start button > Settings > Personalize (1st option) > Vibration
Translated from PT menus so names might not be accurate.

Regarding the gold card and changing the ROM... how would I pick a ROM to change to? And also, if I do change ROMS will I lose all my data?

You will loose all data. Backup first.
There are ROMs for all tastes. Like picking a wallpaper, you must choose one yourself.
My advice would be, install the HTC original ROM (1.48).

Thank you. What is the recommended way of backing up before updating ROM?
Also, will updating to the official ROM include the radio ROM too or would I have to do that separately?
And finally... how would I download the official ROM still, even after gold card, surely the phone would still have a Vodafone serial number?
The Radio is probably not included in the rom.
You can download the rom from HTC site.
Ways to backup? Active Sync, MyPhone, GMail, etc (I use gmail for contacts and calendar for e.g. and do the rest by hand)

My first experience of winmo...

Hi Everyone,
Found this great site looking for forums for the HD2, seems every other leads to here in some way another.
Got my HD2 on Monday with Virgin, so in 5 days I've come to find it an amazing piece of kit yet ultimately annoyed.
I've already got a list of problems and annoyances:
Having to double tap and go into the email fully so it appears read
Tapping to reply to a text yet nothing happens
When using the 'phone' keypad it types in numbers
The phone screen basically crashing so when you press a button it doesn't show the unlock screen. Thus having to take the cover off then the back, then the battery
Pressing the x in the corner of an app yet going to task manager and its still open
The over sensitivity when typing a text and showing words that don't make sense in the predictive text
Having to f**k about for ages to get wi-fi off grrr!
Having to install 3.5 compact .net. I still don't know how to do it
I understand there is a cab for the text and app for the wi-fi but surely it shouldn't be like this. I'm not a technophobe or whatever you want to call one and like to think I'm pretty clued up on tech, (That's why I bought the phone) yet I haven't a clue what a ROM does nor how to install them. I can just cope with cabs ha.
It seems Windows/HTC slogan should be 'There's a cab for that'. (not good)
Anyway rant over and Hello! I'm sure I'll be doing more learning over the next few weeks!

not to worry mate, this community is all about sharing and helping each other.
Hi there. I'll try to give you more "readable" info about the issues you mentioned. I'll just change the order of the questions...
Having to install 3.5 compact .net. I still don't know how to do it
You can use the official Microsoft link provided by 27firesnake, but you'll have to do some reading... The simplest way is to download a cab and install it directly on your phone. You'll fine one here (item #18). You should do this first, as many great applications (including BsB Tweak) need this system component in order to work!
I haven't a clue what a ROM does nor how to install them
Well a ROM is basically your operating system (Windows Mobile) + HTC Sense (homepage and tabs). You are currently an official RO (usually called "stock ROM" in this forum). What we need to know is what version you use? Most likely 1.43 or 1.48, which are not the latest from HTC. The most recent released ROM is 1.66 and runs smoother and might give you better experience overall, even though there no major updates (just a compilation of fixes). Anyway, some people manage to get "not yet released official ROMs" (usually called "leaked ROM") and are able to install them on their devices. The latest leaked ROM is 2.07 (that should appear on the T-Mobile HD2). Anyway, I would not recommend installing a leaked or cooked ROM for the moment, since you're still a newbie and just received your device...
Simpler answer: you should install the official ROM 1.66. Try to go on the official HTC website to do so. If your serial number is rejected, you should contact your carrier (Virgin) to know when you'll be able to download it. People here will advice you to install HSPL to be able to bypass this protection, but as I said, you should wait a bit more, when you know Windows Mobile more. To learn more about that subject, go to the link in my signature.
Having to double tap and go into the email fully so it appears read
Well this doesn't seem to be a problem, or I don't understand? The email appearing in the Mail tab are just "previews" of your email and you should tap to get in the "real" e-mail application to read them fully.
Tapping to reply to a text yet nothing happens
I don't understand. You're not able to answer to a text-SMS ?
When using the 'phone' keypad it types in numbers
Again, this doesn't appear like a problem. I mean, you should compose phone numbers when in the phone application. If you write the beginning of a number, you'll automatically see the contacts whose number begin that way. Anyway, if you prefer, you can use the People tab (then "All People") to choose a contact typing the first letter (instead of phone number).
The phone screen basically crashing so when you press a button it doesn't show the unlock screen.
Is it real crashes or just freeze? I mean, I you wait for a long time, like 1 to 5 minutes, the lockscreen doesn't come back? Many people, including myself, reported some freezes from time to time, but the new ROM 1.66 really improved thing on my side. You might look for this thread for more and this one too.
Pressing the x in the corner of an app yet going to task manager and its still open
OK, this is easy to solve. Just install the "Duttys HTC Task Manager". It will install a task manager and enable the closing of any application using the cross. You can find the cab here (tip #7).
The over sensitivity when typing a text
The latest ROM 1.66 decreases the sensitivity of the touchscreen. If you can't install it, the easy way to solve this is to install the (very recommended) tweaking application called "BsB tweak". There are a lot of simple tweaks you can ON/OFF. One of these is called "decrease sensitivity" or something like that. If it's still too sensitive, then you can install the fixes found here. Just to be sure you don't have a flawed unit, check if you touchscreen has the following problems (go see the youtube videos too).
showing words that don't make sense in the predictive text
I don't have answers for that one, but I know the predictive is not the best on this mobile. You have two options:
1 - improve your typing thanks to the less sensitive touchscreen (if you make less errors, the prediction will be more accurate )
2 - install an alternative keyboard like Touchpal or maybe Swipe...
Having to f**k about for ages to get wi-fi off grrr!
Well, there are numerous ways to solve this issue.
- you can install a shortcut on you home page for the (already installed) "Comm Manager". Comm Manager is already installed and was designed for you: it is a collection of ON/OFF switchers (wifi, bluetooth etc).
- you can install an application that simply switch wifi ON/OFF. Then you install a shortcut on your home page, so you simply tap it to enable or disable wifi. You can find an application like that here (along with a lot other more)
Hope this long post helps
Smaberg's WiFi toggle cab (sticky in the apps and themes section) is a godsend (as is the BT Toggle cab). I have the 20 shortcuts cab installed so that on the top row I have shortcuts to each of these on the homescreen, along with my two most used apps and main contact (girlfriend).
BSB tweaks is definitely recommended also.
When you type a name into the Phone dialler, it may show numbers, but it narrows your options by alpha, so providing you can spell the name you're after it works just fine. You'd have to have triple tap letter selection there otherwise, which is just far less efficient than whats on offer.
guy .. i have experience something in my device .. i was wondering why my device keep pop out the error msg like service.exe and the device.exe ..
it is quite annoying because everytime pop out those error msg .. i have to open the back cover and soft reset it .. it is very serious .. happened everyday for 3 to 5 times ..
Tapping to reply to a text yet nothing happens
Yeh, you have to wait (if lots of messages) for it to load above. You can see this by the scroll bar on the right becomming shorter.
Once it has finished loading those messages, you can tap and it will start composing.
But if you tap before those messages have loaded; it does nothing.

Stock WM 6.5 ROM

I've tried to scour this forum but cannot find any reference to what I need hence the request for assistance. I need just the stock Windows Mobile 6.5 as released by Microsoft. I do not care for any HTC enhancements (menus and whatnot), basically I need it as vanilla as can be. I would then like to apply the tweaks and all that jazz by using the available tools out there.
Ideas? Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction?
ps: The reason I'm asking for this is because I have tried (for the life of me) to disable the HTC style pop up notification bubble and cannot figure it out. I know the option to hide it exists however, when I click on the notification icons on the start menu (say I get a new email or whatever), It still displays it in the HTC-style option.
I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=631449 and I believe points to the first two steps are supposed to help me achieve what I want, however that doesn't seem to be the case.
To be honest, I would much prefer to keep the NRG Rom that I'm using if I could just get rid of the aforementioned pop-up notification box but that's not looking like an option.
HELP!!! - lol
There is no stock WM6.5 rom for the Touch HD, the roms available here are taken from other handsets and modified with the necessary drivers etc. to work on the Touch HD
To just disable the HTC notification manager, get FdcSoft TaskMgr, go to Services, set the HTC Notification service to manual, then soft reset.

HTC Messaging

I've just flashed the latest Energy ROM onto my phone from one that was about 6 months old. All is good apart from one thing - HTC Messaging.
Seems to be a common complaint that a lot of people don't like this, but I haven't found a solution.
In the old Energy ROM I was able to run a cab that disabled HTC Messaging, but that doesn't seem to work with this version.
Can it be disabled? Oddly, at the top of his thread NRGZ28 states that HTC messaging is turned off for speed???
Can anyone help please??
Can anyone help?
try this thread:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556614
My understanding is that the Energy rom isn't using the HTC Messenger anymore. It uses a skinned version of something else.
pretty sure the skinned messaging client in the nrg roms can be disabled somewhere in messaging settings. My experience has been that htc sms client and the new skinned one are way too laggy to be used if you text more than once or twice a day. I have the notification bar on my hometab linked to wm messaging, and no lag and its lots better. Seems like the other sms clients dont index the messages efficiently or something. Its such a shame that so nice a phone is so weak in texting, not everybody is willing to go thru all the trial and error just to settle upon texting that is still imperfect. Big part of why wm is a dying os. People spend big bucks on a phone, they expect it to just work right outta the box, especially something so basic as texting.

Can you explain how you have linked to the wm messaging? This might do what I want.
this might help:
enable wm messenger (by disabling the HTC one), install those 3 .cabs:

and also arcsoft mms:
arcsoft
soft reset
Sorry, I looked and it is the bubble text one, just with the bubbles disabled. Thats the one that I have experienced the least typing lag with out of all I've tried though. I have it linked to the notification bar by cht editor. Having it like that saves me the ram of having to use the sense messaging tab, which would cause my phone to lag and then hang whenever I sent/recieved too many texts too fast. Tried several versions of htc messaging, and they all lagged quite a bit too. It makes me mad to think all the effort n time spent just to get 'ok' texting on my phone. There should be a windows mobile version of android's handcent sms app. It has everything you could ask for as far as messaging goes, and doesnt lag or suck at all. I have had piece of crap phones that handled texting better than windows mobile. How could microsoft blow such a basic function of phones as text messaging so badly?

Try this.
Might need a little tweaking to change font sizes, and such, but I like it better than the WM messaging client. There's plenty of folks to help with the tweaks on the forum.
Also, Microsoft MyPhone works really well for managing text messages. It stores your messages online and allows easy syncing (very handy after new ROM flashes). It, also, allows you to archive older messages so they aren't stored on your phone, which makes ALL messaging apps run much faster.
Hope it helps...

No Sent Message Confirm message Or Sound

Hi all, sorry if its been asked B4 but i cant seem to find a definite answer or solution. Thing is I cant find an option for my HD2 to play a sound when i send a txt message (just peace of mind that its been sent realy) All notifications are switched on and i get a sound when i recieve messages but nothing to confirm 'message sent'. Tried going to settings/all settings/sounds & notifications where there is the option for mms sent play sound (which i activated) the option for message doesnt offer anything for message sent tho.
Anyone have any ideas...i am using a uk stock rom that hasnt been flashed
cheers
The only solution is to upgrade to the latest ROM 3.14 which from memory does have support for message sent on sms.

thanx for that. Thought that may be the case. Was hoping there would be a way round this without flashing roms...pretty much new to this device and currently has the dreaded .51 radio, which i have heard/read can be the death of these phones if attempting to flash, so im kinda put off messing with new roms etc..

Hey mate did some more searching on this and found the solution for those on WWE1.66 rom. I upgraded the HTC messaging client and all is good now.
Goto this link:

and do exactly as he says. The link to that HTC messaging client is here:

and use a reg editor to modify to 0 the below path:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Jataayu\Messaging]
You can then go into menu/all settings/sounds and notifications/notifications tab
scroll down to event message:send succeeded and select play sound ticked and if you want display message on screen
Enjoy

one more question tho, can i dwnload a registry edit tool or is it already on the hd2 from stock, if no then is there any free or cheapo alternatives out there
thanx again
Hey no worries dude this is a great community. I use taskmanager as my reg-editor. Do a search for it It should be free..
From memory there are 3 htc sms clients. That one linked which works for me but lacks the new folder(secure box) for saving sms, one that has that secure box function inbuilt but is older version and has chinese character problem and then a totally newer client which was recently released. To be honest the version in the link above does the job for me and now plays a sound and shows a notification.
It's great you dont have to do a whole flash ROM upgrade and that you can upgrade individual programmes in this phone. Makes it a really amazing phone.

Ye i agree, at first it seemed a little intimidating thinking i had to flash roms etc to actually install 'cabs' and such to the device...But am learning as i go that this is not the case. Will continue to read, read ,read through the exellent threads on XDA and over time unlock the true potential of the device.
Thanx man, this is indeed a superb community Lookin forward to promoting myself from noob to ...err.. semi noob
