I've been having this problem ever since i had my droid 2 , it's extremely annoying .
This happens totally randomly, last night it happened while i was asleep so i doubt it's a user action that causes it .
My phone would be laying around , it would say i have service or 3g , yet i don't recieve any sms and if i try to send to someone I get a message failed to deliver notification . The only way this gets fixed is if i reboot.
Has anyone seen this problem before ?
Try doing the *228 then 2 to update roaming capabilities. If that doesn't work I would send it to verizon and do a warranty exchange it could be a hardware issue.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
I'm sure i've tried the *228 , it's happened on stock, epic rom, and fission so i'm begingin to think it is a hardware issure.
Problem is warranty exchange isn't really an option for me since I'm on a demo line from verizon.
Oo darn. The only other thing I would say is to do an sbf recovery :/ and no one likes doing that lol. Or try downloading a new sms app.

I've tried that too lol , but thanks for the help. Maybe it's an app ?
Ive updated my voicemail to the new update around 3 wks ago or so. Last night I started getting voicemails that were a couple days old that I didn't even know about. So I sent myself some voicemails and didn't get them. I then uninstalled the new voicemail update and when it uninstaleed I got some more old voicemails pop up. After that I got the popup that said a mandatory update is available. I it ok to reinstall the update and then it says no updates available. I have the notification telling me bout the update but every time I try to update it says no update available. I've tried everything. I just completed a hard reset that sprint tech. Told me to do and nothing. The sprint tech said he never heard if it and wants me to take it to a repair center to see if they can push it. I don't mind doing that but I live 45 mins from a repair center and if for some reason I have to do another wipe I'll be in the same position. Anybody know what to do or heard of this? Everything else updates just fine. Thank you
Having the same problem...I wouldn't bet it is a hardware problem.

Download a rom with newer cm-android.apk. adb into phone and remove current version. Adb new voice mail to /system/app. Well try it. It was perfect for me. Good luck.

I've tried sending an mms and my phone sits there and never receives it. The same thing happens when I try to send an mms.
I've tried restarting the phone and/or doing the airplane toggle (I do it every morning after I take it off charging anyway.)
I can get it to send/receive IF I connect to 4G. But, I can only connect to 4G while I'm at work, and the signal is really crappy, so it dies often.
I'm running SRF 1.1.0 and VisionKernel.
I can't remember the last time this has even worked though.
Try updating your prl and profile...
Settings/About/SystemUpdates/Update Prl or Update profile or both
Also have u deleted the stock messenging app?
What messenging app are u using.
Also another thought is that maybe the mms service is down for a moment or 2 try waiting a bit and tru again or try one of the above suggestions.

Thanks, but that doesn't apply to my situation. I can send/receive sms all day long without any troubles, ever. MMS is the problem I'm having.

Just for laughs, call Sprint and see if there is a 3G outtage in your area. This happened to me a few weeks ago and it was a 3G problem not my phone. Looks like there is a problem with 3G in my area right now. Words with Friends keeps getting connection errors. Works on 4G though.
I am going through the exact same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im glad im not the only one I was able to recieve and send jsut fine but now I can only recieve only on wifi or 4g, im on boost running 2.2 ec05 stock rooted, you might be sprint but I know all my proxy information is put in correctly because it was working before,I cannot send out and also my prl does not update and prl I was thinking about odin'ning down to 2.1 to see if that fixes my issue, while on 3g I just get download unsuccessful and when trying to send message just sits there and then after 20 min red x in handcent, I still have stock messaging
Same here,Its crazy, started last night when I recieved a joke when on wifi (mms),then on the road I tried to send it (passenger ) on 3g,no go,so I sent a regular text, that worked ; I had just removed htmlVeiwer.apk,ODB.apk and androidExtension.apk and I was going nuts, installed those again and thought wow, that didnt work... So I would love to know why all the sudden I cant, but my brother can on his epic, and we live in the same house.

yea that is crazy And i didnt remove anything I kept all original stock info
Apparently it's Sprint yet again. 3G was out on my phone for over an hour today and then just popped back on. Texts wouldn't go through on 4G either.
Do you BONSAI?
Try this.. download apn backup and restore from the market..
Backup your apn. It makes an xml file.
Open it. Inside that xml there is an mms gateway.
Delete that, save as something else.
Keep your original xml file.
Goto apn backup and restore.
Choose delete apns. Then restore apns.
Choose the new xml you made.
See if that works. If not you can always restore the original bckup you made.

Ok guess what,SprintAndroidExtension.apk will break this if removed also, that took another hour to figure out,I had 4 files I had to narrow down that I removed last night. So my MMS is working again.

First of all apologies if this has been covered before.
My son in law got himself a new Atrix yesterday and so far he is very happy with it. Exept any txt messages he gets keep coming again and again about every 1/2 hour this has been going on all day and I am the one he is blaming as I was the one who recommended the Atrix to him.
If anybody has had this problem or anyone knows the answer I will be much obliged as the way things are going I will not get any sleep tonight.
Sounds like someone is using SMS Bomber to send him repeat text messages. Download Anti SMS Bomber from the market, and make sure it runs all the time, that should do the trick.
Anti SMS Bomer - https://market.android.com/details?id=org.baole.antibomber
Is it the same exact text message over and over? I had this happen to me last night, except it was the same exact text coming from my girlfriend.
I turned off my phone for the night and the next morning I received about 30 text messages (all from her) saying the exact same thing. I solved it just a little bit ago with an SBF flash.

This happens to me anytime my phone is off or in airplane mode and someone texts me more than once. The first one sent comes over and over again.
You don't have to SBF flash.
With the phone on, pull the battery (and I reseat the sim, but that's probably just silly) and pop it back in. I usually get the message one more time and then any that were queued up behind it.
I use GoSMS but I also got it with Handcent... Stock doesn't seem to do it.
Oh. I had mine with the SMS app (from GBlur). I think I had a total of ~170 messages from her saying the same thing. I did all of that and even tried separate SMS clients but nothing worked except an SBF flash
Thanks to one and all for your advice.
We sorted it in the end by phoning Orange and they advised the pull battery while the phone was still on. After re-boot they pushed all the queued up messages. Up till now things are looking OK but S-i-L is a bit reluctent to try messages.
I think he is either going to try the Anti SMS Bomber or SBF flash, it's up to him I got into enough trouble for recommending the Atrix. He is now trying to do a swap for my SE Xperia Arc. (Thinking about it).
That does fix it... it is of course subject to happening again if he gets a message while the phone is off. Fairly easy fix though, i've never had to have them push my messages. My wife sends me enough that she pushes them for me
Totally trade him!
Yes, it still happening with me. Try to disable Cell Broadcast on Wifi & others configuration menu...
Mine doesnt have this menu, but i edited it on settings.db and still spamming the sms.
@Edit
Look at HERE
Ive had the Atrix since launch never had this problem, my buddy who i recommended the Atrix started getting 20+ same text two days ago. Then yesterday I had the same problem for the first time. We both called Att, they were useless. The problem resolved itself for both of us last night. A bunch pushed through all at once. No sbf no battery pull, but if it happens again I def will pull battery. No duplicates in 24 hours, glad thats over. My phone was definately not turned off or in airplaine mode when it started.
This all points at a network level problem. Why would the phone redeliver its own texts?
We had this with another phone here at work a while back when someone was abroad and it was a network level issue that caused it.

We were able to disable Cell Broadcast through Wifi settings don't know if it will help but don't think it will do any harm either.

I agree, I'm assuming it's happening when sending to you fails somehow, out of range or no signal or whatever (airplane mode, shutting down system) and the request gets stuck.
Sad that AT&T can't get that fixed though.
Okay so no duplicate text since I posted yesterday, or, two days ago.? Just sent my buddy (^who also had the prob^) a text asking it he had gotten anymore duplicates. I received three back that said "no". I sent one saying, "are you joking?". He called and asked if I was f***ing with him, hes getting duplicates of my messages also. So the issue went away for 48 hours and came back when I mentioned it!! *facepalm
Pulling the battery doesn't help! The issue resolved itself before w/o a factory reset so I am hesitant to do one. I agree with the thinking that it is a network issue. What would you do XDA friends?
EDIT: Im on 4.1.83 GladRoot GingerBlur. He is on 4.1.83 GladRoot NO GBlur. Im using Handcent and I think he is too.
I Still with duplicated messages... thats making me replace atrix for anything else... just atrix have this insue.
I'm happy to say that since I last posted on this thread there have been no more mass duplication messages
I am extra happy about that as I did the swap and am loving My Atrix.

Yes i was, but I uninstalled it recently. I am no longer getting duplicate texts. my friend IS still having the prob. Att has sent him another Atrix, we are going to copy his apps to the new phone soon and see if they stop.
Is there an issue with RCB on the Atrix?
Interestingly im running that too. I haven't seen the issue in a week or so but next time I will try disabling it too. I know everytime it gains root access it FC's the Voice Commands app.

Hello everyone. I would like to thank anyone who helps in advance, and also to the devs who work so hard.
Anyhow, the problem first surfaced on CM11 with a recent nightly. All of a sudden, my SMSes would not send. So I tried different apps, hangouts, stock SMS, gosms, etc. Nothing works, the message just times out.
Next I tried restoring my known good working rooted stock nandroid. It all of a sudden would not send SMS with that either! Then I tried wiping my entire device, and doing a clean flash of only the 12/17 CM11 and the newest PA Gapps, and I did not restore anything. Still not sending!!! Please help, did I break my device??
I doubt that you broke it so relax. Check your APN settings. Maybe restore original stock ROM and then reflash whatever you want. Before you wiped it all I would have tried Textra. Good luck.
This happened to me about two days ago, I was installing and reinstalling Paranoid Android on my AT&T LG G2 to the point where somehow I was unable to send SMS.
The funny thing is I could receive Texts & Picture messages from others, and I could send Picture messages BUT NOT send texts or reply to texts.
I tried other 3rd party messaging apps - I even went back to stock but my text messages wouldn't send! I went to my local AT&T store and they replaced my SIM card for free and everything was normal, even now it's working just great.
I even tried imputing the SMSC number again but i'd get an update error message.
Trust me I've tried everything and I couldn't get it to work, but I went to the AT&T store and all they did was switch my SIM card for a new one and everything was back to normal.

Yes, calls did come in and I could make calls. Data worked as well (still connected to LTE). Everything worked except mysteriously texts wouldn't send.
I wonder if it's something to do with flashing ROMS so many times to the point where we don't let the ROM settle or maybe certain ROMS 'embed' some file that confuses the SIM card to cause it to malfunction?

I really hope that it is the SIM and not my EFS, because when I restored to my known good Rooted stock Nandroid, EFS was included in that and it still didn't work. I have contacted AIO for a SIM but it's gonna be a few days. I wanted to get one anyway because I feel my cut-down SIM was negatively affecting my signal reception. I could be completely wrong in that, but still. I can do EVERYTHING except send SMS. So weird!

Is my SMSC supposed to have those extra numbers at the end? I even had AIO "refresh/provision" me to no avail. And while I was on the line with her, she wanted me to remove the 3 extra numbers. But they persist! I have included a photo so you can see what I mean.
Further (and less importantly), is anyone else having an issue with KK where the '*#*#4636#*#*' menu takes forever to show up after entering the code?
Thanks again to anyone who's made suggestions!

I got that too but I still was unable to sent text messages. I also tried erasing the numbers and just adding the SMSC without any extra numbers and I would get an Update error.
Right now, this is what I have on my phone (it's fixed and no issues sending or receiving)

Thank you for showing me that. However, unless you are also on Aio, I don't think ours should be the same. I'm awaiting a new SIM from Aio to rule that out, so I will report back after I try the new SIM.

One more thing... How do you get yours to stick on LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)? Whenever I set mine to that, it always reverts back to just LTE/GSM. Just wondering, I doubt it's related to my issue lol =)

Not too sure, I've never moved that option on my phone, it was like that when I went to the settings menu. Maybe it's set by network? Not too sure.
