Time/Media scape Pull - XPERIA X10 General

Is there a way to push time/media scape to another phone without deconstructing?
Yes I searched the forums and not enough info.

SMS app idea.. is this possible.

I plug my phone into my computer while at work.
Then i use a media player to access my SD card and play music. Plus it keeps my phone charged. and allows for access to the SD card for a quick Flash drive basically.
But the problem is it's in an awkward dock and when i get text messages it's a pain in the ass to text someone back. Would it be possible to write an app that could display your text messages on your screen almost as an IM or even just a little popup by the system tray where you can respond without using the phone?
This program could just intercept the SMS/MMS or whatever your recieving. Display it on your screen. And then you can type a message that would then send a response via the phone as well.
Yeah, it's definitely possible. I didn't hear about such thing, you could try to search for it.
i've tried searching but i don't really no what to search for... i think it would be a useful app for people other than myself though.
You basically are talking about making an app like MyMobiler for WinMo.
I have been looking for it for some time now, nothing yet. Hopefully it is possible and someone will create one.
Try panda pc suite or 91 pc suite where u can send messages from ur pc nd u can even hav POP. Ups

You could try the Motorola Phone Portal. I think it might suit your purpose. If I remember correctly, there is an edited version of it somewhere around here called HTC Portal v2. Try searching for that.
Hope that helps.
This might be of interest.
Try RemoteSMS from the market (it has a free and a paid version). I think it's what you're looking for (tho I'm not sure if it does this over usb or wifi or both)
I would love an app like that,
I did use My phone explorer daily for my w900 and w960 (non android phones)
Look for EasySMS on the market.
There also is ScreenCastr and Texdro now.

Phone doesn't recognize files directly

Hello XDA people,
When i put files on my SD card. Android doesn't see the files right away. Most of the time after a couple of boots. This is really irritating me. I unmount the device but still no files.
Does someone have the answer for this? Searched the crap out of google, but couldn't find anything useful.
And another question, when i have wallpapers. They show up like i want them to be on my background. But android gives you this retarded cut out tool. That enlarges the wallpaper. Does anyone know a good app to get rid or replace this?
Thanks.
You do know you can enlarge the area that the wallpaper thing tries to cut out? just drag an edge of the yellow box and it will expand it. Can't really help with the files not appearing tho, sorry.
Try "wallpaper set and save" - it's in the market and it's free. Or get Zedge (which is BRILLIANT!) That too seems to be able to set wallpapers a lot better than the native method. You just can't select your own wallpapers with that.
The other problem is something I've seen on the forums a few times. Do a search and you may find some answers.
Still cant find a solution for the file problem. Please someone help
@ johncmolyneux.
Yes i know Zedge it's good. Thanks for the solution for the wallpapers.
Anyone????
I think you have to set up ADB. That was the only thing i could do to get rid of this problem But ABD has it's benefits, believe me
Here's a guide.

"Universal Search" - Not Universal.

I was wondering if GingerBread addressed the Universal Search issue. I've heard that the Atrix is anything but Universal when searching your device. My BlackBerry does a good job of searching through...
Contacts, Calendar, Email, Google Search, Text Messages, Bookmarks, Browser History, MemoPad, Pictures, Videos, Music and the list goes on.
...the only thing I wish my BlackBerry included is Files & Folders on device and SD Card.
You know...a TRUE Universal Search.
Makes me think I need to create an app for that! Windows 7 got the right idea of being able to type a few letters in the start menu to find programs/docs to open, etc. instead of trying to remember which windows to open to find what you want.
That little Search Icon in the lower right corner of the Atrix can be SOOOO much more powerful and SHOULD be! I was hoping the xda devs. hacked this a long time ago. Or was my search on the forum not thorough enough...lol sorry.

No way to turn off SafeSearch?

Is there an option somewhere in the search app to turn off SafeSearch? I'm not talking about using web search on chrome since there is a setting there.
any answer to this??? My image results are still safesearch.
on my Nexus 7
"hardcore a*** sex" (this is juss an example. I don't go searching this everyday)
first image will be of brittany spears, not of "hardcore a*** sex".
if I search this on my computer, first image is of course what I searched for.
edit: this came about because my wife watches teen mom(horrible show btw) and one of the idiots on there had naked pictures posted the other day. so my wife could pull up stuff on her iphone, but I couldn't pull up images on my Gnex or N7. so of course I tried to search other things.

Which cloud/sync app? (Nook battery/wakelocks)

Been a long time since I posted here.
I don't use my Nook as much as I I could or I think I should. I think the main reason is that I haven't been using apps which sync across devices for fear of ruining the very good battery life.
What are some good apps which integrate with say Chrome? What things have you found useful? Do you toggle WiFi on and off? If so do you then need to hit sync or does that partial wakelock reciever for detecting that WiFi is on and off do that for you? Or will this app keep trying to sync even when there is no wifi?
I think if I start using something like ReaditLater again (tap button in chrome, sync and then read on Nook)... I'll probably use it more.
Also, pulling apps off Google Play and installing the apk was better for battery but I can't get the apk extractor websites to work anymore. Did anyone have a workaround for that?
One more thing, I have been using the latest Cyanogenmod and I notice it comes with PrivacyGuard. Now, the interersting thing about that is that PrivacyGuard now has options to block autostart, keep device awake and wake up device. So this could be useful to put in a ROM, or something like it, bearing in mind the nice battery life we get. Or, maybe have 2 modes - one with everything disabled for hikes, and another for use at home where a charger is handy and the auto sync is more useful.
Apologies, didn't search well enough:

(adbsync)
Yeah, Renate NST's adbsync program is definitely going to be your best (and really only) option that fits your description.
Thinking about it, there's probably more efficient ways to do it.
For example, Evernote, Unified Remote Full, Wiki Encyclopedia Offline. I don't think Pocket (formerly ReaditLater works anymore very unfortunately... that was my favorite thing)
But of course, getting these things working on the older Android now could be difficult. How do I get the apks from play these days now the various website extractors don't work?
And ways to automate adbsync. For example, have it as a schedule in the background along with adb connect to your Nook. But remember to give the Nook a static IP on the WiFi by assigning via MAC on the router.
If you save pages as .pdf and automate the sync that's good but browsing pages as pdf isn't great.
edit to avoid bump:
You can use it as a 2nd monitor.
Windows:
http://superuser.com/questions/62051/is-there-a-way-to-fake-a-dual-second-monitor
(then use VNC to access. My thread has a howto for install) (MaxiVista probably works to if you're prepared to pay or steal)
Also possible on other platforms. The key phrase to use when searching is "Extend desktop"
I don't know why I didn't think of this before but you can access Evernote through the web interface. Probably similar for OneNote too.
A browser I heard is good, possible better than Opera now is NakedBrowser and the apk is available from the authors website.
I found a way to get the apk is to find an old phone to install too and then use an apk extractor app. A desktop extractor would still be better
Edit again;
I'm still not using it like I feel I should. I think this is because it's just not as Easy to pick up and read. The problem with advanced is that I have to wake up the nook, turn on WiFi and then hit my sync script on the desktop. Because of this I only use it if I have a lot to read, like a full book. I envisioned using it for just reading lengthier forum posts and white papers.
A start I think is to disable the screen saver.
Next will be to put enabling WiFi and keep awake while charging, and then disable after a period if the user fails to cancel and it's unplugged.
If you know how to do either of these things please let me know.
edit avoid bump:
I can't install the tasker apk unfortunately... and they're not giving out licenses anymore without Play. Is there an similar alternative is now my search..
Would be really good to enable and disable adb wireless and wifi when plugged in.
Actually there's a fix for tasker asking for a .jar. So it should be possible tonautomate connecting to WiFi and adb WiFi. Just a matter of getting tasker license or something else. AutomateIT won't run.

My Nook is currently out of commission, but I know at one point I had Pocket running (while it was still called ReadItLater), so there might be an old apk floating around that works. Alternatively, you can setup Wallabag, which is the same thing but run on your own server. Between that and a feed reader, I had thousands of articles to pick from whenever I picked up my Nook. It was quite a delight.
Also, there are a couple of wifi saving tools that can be found in F-Droid. If I recall, I used one called Battery Fu to have my Nook connect, force a sync, then disconnect once every few hours. It worked quite well.
thanks FbYAx
I looked up wallabag but when I try to install every version back to 1.6 I get the message 'older SDK'. I guess you had an older version... but I don't know how far back i have to go.
i will have to start archiving and hosting apks that work
edit to try to be a bit more helpful for people who might be trying to do this same:
get android version (mine is 2.1. i think that is normal (kitkat)):
Code:
adb shell getprop ro.build.version.release
change sdk apk version to see if it was developed without using newer sdk stuff (force it):
