Does anyine know how
To shut off the my favs notifications? I'm getting double sms notifications
-------------------------------------
Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App
As far as I know, there is no way to disable the Faves notifications. I had to remove all my Fave contacts to stop the notifications because they were becoming annoying.
remove all the myfaves from the list, and back out of it.. all notifications will stop being sent and doubled
Not a huge fan of the "Faves" app....tried to install the People Widget from HTC and it wouldn't install....
i'm actually not getting the double notifications that you all are referring to and i have a couple of my contacts set up as faves. i can only recall getting 1 faves notification before.
the only fix i would probably suggest is that when you set up faves, the address book adds those contacts in a separate T-Mobile listing or group. under your contacts and the 'View' menu option, deselect 'T-Mobile'.
please let me know if this works for you all.
ok i retract that last post and statement. thing was, my task killer was killing the faves notifications. disabling my task killer brought back the doubles.
has anyone tried to stop the process in running services?
I've tried everything I can to try and stop the double notifications, the only thing that works for me is deleting the faves that were added. I ended up adding "Direct Dial" shortcuts on one whole screen to avoid the faves app altogether.
I hope someone can try and figure out how to install the apps that were left out of this version of Sense. The only app I've been able to install that was not included in this version of sense is HTC Navipanel. I really want the People Widget, it is mush better than the faves gallery...

Hi Guys,
I have had an ongoing problem with my phone for some time, persisting throughout different ROM flashes and full wipes.
I use Handcent SMS, and have notifications turned on, it's a blue icon.
I receive this notification, and another mysterious one from i don't know where.
The other one is white and displayed in the photo below.
One would assume it's the default SMS app that's displaying it, but...
I have most definitely turned off notifications in the default SMS application, and have no other SMS apps installed, just the default "Messaging" and Handcent.
Also, when i read the message, it doesn't clear until i manually "Clear all notifications". IIRC, i even removed the default SMS app and still got those messages, but i can't be certain of that as it was awhile ago.
Has anyone else experienced this, and know of a way i can fix?
Any help would be most appreciated.
The notifications appear as such...
"You have an unread message"
"You have 0 unread messages"

A bit hard to to be sure without a screen shot - try uploading it to imageshack and posting a link (you'll to need to change the link a bit such that XDA doesn't recognize it as a link).
Most likely it is the default messaging app, Please recheck that notifications are disabled there. If they are, you can also try to enable them, and see if you now get 3 notifications on each SMS....
Hi, Thanks for the reply =)
Interesting, I enabled notifications in the default sms app and now i get 3 notifications!
So i can only assume it's something else!
I have two screenshots...

This is a photo with the 3 notifications (if i enable notification in the default sms app)

Ok, so it aint the default messaging app. What happens when you press on the notification? Maybe it opens this app?
I guess this might be a little extreme, but you can always do a full wipe, and then do a clean install - verify you get only one notification with a clean install (no apps). Then start installing your apps and try to find out which is the offending app. If you do want to do this, I suggest you wait a few days, I should release a bugfix version 1.1.9 shortly.
BTW, there are easier/better ways to take screen shots, like "ShootMe" on the market, or the ddms utility which comes with the andoird SDK if you have adb working.

Great, thanks very much for the advice. I'll wait for the new Floyo release and try a process of elimination.
Also, loving your Floyo ROM.. it's improved my Hero immensly \o/
Much appreciated, keep up the good work =)
Hello,
I've got a weird problem I'm trying to solve with bettercut. I think it should be relatively easy, but I'm stumped and was wondering if somebody could help me out.
I use an HTC Legend and I like SenseUI too much to change to another launcher. I use an App called SMS Popup to notify me of new messages, but this app - combined with SenseUI - creates a bug with the default Messages shortcut.
Basically, when I mark a message as Read with the SMS Popup, the default Messages shortcut keeps the notification badge telling me I have unread messages. Which is annoying, because to fix this I have to go into the messaging app, scroll to the message I've already read in order to convince SenseUI I've read it.
So basically, what I'm trying to do with BetterCut is launch the SMS app without the system treating it as a Shortcut that needs a notification badge. I read all of my SMSs immediately mostly so I never need it to tell me how many I need to read.
So far, I have the intent as:
android.intent.action.RUN
and the data as:
com.android.MMS
However, when I select this shortcut, it says the app isn't installed.
So could somebody help me either:
1. Make a shortcut with BetterCut to the default Messaging app which won't show notification badges
or
2. Turn off notification badges entirely, because I don't use them for email either and they kinda piss me off.
Thanks!
PS. I've searched forums and google extensively for this, so I wouldn't be asking if I hadn't already tried
Cheers
EDIT: Ah, this was supposed to go in Android General. Sorry.
you can also opt for an other sms program at all
for ex http://www.appbrain.com/app/handcent-sms/com.handcent.nextsms
this is an sms manager with an popup function in one
I use to use 'SMS Popup' to have a popup box for txt messages where I could quick reply or dismiss messages. With all 2.2 roms it seems that this programs 'close' button no longer marks messages as read. Anyone have a favorite SMS addon that has a popup box with quick reply and dismiss kind of features?
I don't like Chomp or Handcent. I'd prefer something that doesn't take over the native messaging app but is just the pop up stuff.
Anyone use one successfully with our beloved Epics?
the close button marks read for me
Try "SMS Notifier".

somewhat related, if you use launcher pro, there are dock notifications you can use and assign to a swipe gesture on your dock icons. (menu, pref, dock settings, dock notifications; then long press dock icon, swipe gesture action)

Try Go SMS on froyo, I started using it and it works great. Also has the pop ups where you can respond
thx, will give it a shot. I actually tried SMS notifier and that didn't clear them either. I'm 100% sure I turned off the native messaging notification too. Maybe this is one of those weird glitchies that a wipe and flash takes care of? Trying Go SMS now... thx.
just noticed something weird and maybe it's a bug of sorts. When I text myself from an email account (which is how I've been testing) it doesn't seem to work. but when I text from a cell I think it works. Oh well, I'll either follow up with a dev or not : )

Go into the stock messaging app and in settings uncheck Notifications.
Also uncheck auto retrieve in the stock messaging app
Also if you for some reason have a different app set to default, you can go into settings - applications and then Handcent to "Clear Defaults" so next time you try and message from something like contacts, it will bring up a selection window of the app to use then just check "make default" and pick Handcent.
well that was simple enough geez. THANKS GUYS
There is a better way. If you try to send a text from the contact lists, then if has a separate default entry for each contact, so you will still be asked on occasion if you want to send from handcent or messaging. If you never plan on using messaging (which I see no point in doing so) then you can just remove it or freeze it with Titanium. Then you never have to think about it again.

he he that helped i was about to make a new topic
I was, like many people getting double SMS notifications, and it started out of the blue. I finally figured out what my issue was, so I hope this helps others out:
I had tried using "Beautiful SMS" from the "Beautiful Widgets - Pack 2" a while back. After a lot of searching and trying numerous "fixes" posted all over Android forums I found that if you use this widget and turn on notifications in it's settings, then remove it from your homescreen, you will still get notifications. Those notifications will not open any SMS programs, and you have to use "Clear" in the notifications drop down to get rid of them. I was also using GoSMS the whole time, which gave me the other notification.
In essence, if you are getting double SMS notifications, check Beautiful SMS, or any other widgets you may have used for SMS, to make sure the notifications in the core part of the widget do not remain turned on.
For Beautiful SMS all I did was long press the Home screen, select Widgets, select Beautiful SMS at which point the settings screen appears. I deselected Vibrate and Show notification, pressed the Home button to back out of the widget, and problem solved.
Hope this helps some others who are going round the twist with this.
