Will i lose everything if i debrand my x10i? - XPERIA X10 General

I wanna brand my hong kong x10i to UK or something so i can get the lastest updates.
1. would this work since the HK phone is not branded
2. will i lose all my data? (i have my backup pro will that work?)

I did exactly the same as wolf0491, and it's quite easy!!

Updating to firmware 16/13 on hong kong phone used on rogers?

I have an x10i that was originally from hong kong and is now being used on rogers.
The phone seems to not be branded, theres no network apps or anything, so why cant I update the firmware? Is this because im using it on rogers?
i got mine from hong kong as well. It is still R1FA014. waiting for R2BA013 which is coming out from SEUS in couples of weeks.
You can get it via software update on the phone itself right?
in general, yes. but so far it is not available yet. some x10 users used the debrand method (instruction shown in other thread) to update to most up-to-date firmware...but i am just waiting for R2BA013...so i dont bother right now....

[Q] Unbranded SGS v T-Mobile (UK) Branded SGS

Obviously, there are differences with the stock rom that will come with either version. However, as I am planning to flash around a bit, this won't matter.
However I've heard that on a branded device, if I flash a different rom then accept an OTA update it will simlock my phone. Is this correct? If so, then will getting an unbranded device be better?
Thanks.
Let's also assume the T-Mobile phone is initially locked and I have to purchase a code to unlock it.
Bump - would really like to get a response on this matter.
I don't know the answer to your question, but my Galaxy is from T mobile and is unbranded and unlocked out of the box.
My SGS is from T-Mobile UK, but I can't really answer your question either.
I can say that the device is both externally and internally unbranded (I can't say about SIM locks, but I assume it has one). No splash screens, no "Web'n'Walk" Internet icon. The firmware supplied is:
PDA: I9000XXJF4
PHONE: I9000XXJF3
CSC: I9000TMUJE6
Only the CSC is custom, I'm guessing just because it comes set up with the T-Mobile APN settings etc.
What I'm interested in is whether, if I made a nandroid backup, what base ROM I'd need to return to the phone to stock.. JF3 is the only one available it seems.
I've just bought a T-Mobile UK SGS on ebay, brand new, still sealed, it was an 'unwanted upgrade'.
I can confirm there is no branding that I've found so far, and there is no sim lock (I'm using it on O2, everything working fine right out the box), I don't know if this is the same for all the SGS that T-Mobile are selling.
another one - even the box was unbranded.
No W'n'W application as I was expecting even!
Completely unlocked.

Fimware query

Hi guys,
I am considering Buying what of these phones as the idea of a joypad for a mobile is awesome, just got one question:
I'll be buying this imported (as its way cheaper) so more then likely it will have Hong Kong (Asia) firmware on it..is there "stock Rom" for this? i had a HTC desire HD that i managed to get back to worldwide firmware myself (after 2 weeks of research) so I was wondering if the same thing is possible with the Xperia play?
I don't wanna buy one and be stuck on another counties firmware.
any tips/help would be awesome
Thanks guys

You should be able to flash the UK generic firmware on it using flash tool. After that you could root it using Gingerbreak, update it to 2.3.3 and remove the bloat.
All without unlocking your boot loader, too. Unless you just want to, that is.
adb shove iPad2post.apk to /forum/thread
I'm looking moreso towards an aussie firmware, since my mobile provider would be a 3rd party of optus, I dont mind having optus bloatware on there. if theres aussie genric firmware, i would more then happy to have that over a worldwide firmware?

I don't know of an Australian FW, but there could be one. Most go for the UK generic because of being able to root then update to 2.3.3 without losing root. You'll need to unless you plan on installing everything on the SD card.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
im not too fussed about it being unlocked...i jsut want a firmware i can easily upgrade ( offical is what im looking for) that supports OTA updates too. its not really breaking any laws if its still the offical firmware suited for the device...any clue where i should start looking for rom guides and files? best to be prepared for when i get the phone!
I would just go with the uk generic. So far when it has come to updates the uk firmware has been one of the first to get the updates.
If you got an aussie firmware with optus bloatware on you would have to wait till optus ok's the update before you get it (god knows how long that would take?). Alot of people got the update weeks later because they had carrier branded software vs people who just have the generic software.
People from usa have even flashed the uk firmware (to get updates quicker) and there has not been any problems. If your phone is sim free it will not make a difference which software is on it.
Follow the steps here to get the uk generic + root with a locked bootloader. Once you have flashed the uk firmware all your future updates will automatically come from the uk.

Does CSC region matter?

I rooted my phone with super su, it did not go so well, tried twrp, to use magisk, but will not work as remnants of the super SU root are still in place.
I am going to flash back to stock firm ware, I purchased my phone out right on amazon from italy, so it has Vodafone italy apps on it.
My question is when i re flash the stock, does it have to be Vodafone Italy for the region or can i use the uk one for 3? AS that is who my carrier is, part of me wanting to root was to get rid of all the italian vodafone stuff off my phone?
Thanks

No VoLTE on X Compact

Hi,
I am from Germany and I bought a phone from UK with O2 pay monthly software version. I hoped for a VoLTE option with Oreo update, but while Oreo is here, VoLTE option is not. Do I have to reflash to german software or is there another way? And in case of reflashing, can a backup made with sony compagnion be restored after software change? I would use german software version with the same build number (34.4.A.0.364) as my O2 UK of course.
Vodafone Germany is saying VoLTE with Vodafone branded phones only. Mine is unbranded and Wifi Call works, as Vodafone says, but not VoLTE as Vodafone says again
Well, I am willing to switch to german O2 branding if mandatory für VoLTE using provider blau.de, but I think it isn't.
Do you have a switch for VoLTE but it just doesn't work or don't you have a switch at all?

Can anybody answer my other questions?

I've never used it, but I've seen a 'vo enabler' module in Magisk downloads...
For me, with German provider o2, the "Customized DE" branding (1305-6830) provides me with VoLTE and VoWiFi. My phone originally came with the "Customized FR" branding (1305-4777) and I had to flash the German branding onto it to get these additional functionalities. I would recommend to make a backup before flashing the German branding, but for me it was NOT necessary to wipe anything.

Just to be sure. You didn't wipe anything and did not loose any data? So after flashing the phone was like before (apps, data, settings), just with a VoLTE switch?

Yes. I first used Xperifirm to get the firmware with the "Customized DE" branding. I was lucky enough to get exactly the same firmware version that was already installed, just with the right branding now. Then I used FlashTool to create the FTF and flash it to the device. I did not check any of the "wipe" switches. When FlashTool was done, I restarted the phone. After maybe 30 seconds, I got a message saying that now the phone is getting optimized for my operator and will reboot (I cannot remember the exact wording). After this reboot, the switches for VoLTE and VoWiFi were there. I had no data loss at all, but I still did a backup before and would advise anybody to do so just to be on the safe side.
OK, I will go for it on sunday. "Customized DE" firmware is downloaded (the new one with patch level 1. february) and my phone has updated to the same one today, just with O2 UK branding.
Does anybody know what has to be allowed through the firewall (afwall) for volte or vowifi to work? i have the firmware but get no connection
