at least 8 bg but im mainly looking for speed. anyone know of the fastest micro sd brand out there. if found that judging by class alone doesn't mean much. im looking for read/write speeds.
I just purchased this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-
16GB class 10...i will report back once i receive it tomorrow.
What you'll find is that the higher end cards are faster than the phone interface so the only benefit is when you're loading files on a PC. I'm running a 16 GB Sandisk Class 2 card and it works great.

Then how fast would be the evo's interface to the sd card? Would it be capable of utilizing a class 10 micro SHDC?
I have a transcend 8gb class 6. I got it for 14 bucks on amazon and I do get the 6m/s transfer speed. Im waiting for a 32gb that is reasonably priced.

Hi, sorry if this is a double post. I did look around but could not find much info.
I'm interested to know how well the new 16GB MicroSD cards work on the Xperia. Anyone using one of these? My main concern is that they all seem to only be class 2 atm. Is this too slow to run apps and my videos stored on it etc?
Should I wait till a class 4 16GB card comes out?
Thanks
Edit: I also noticed that SanDisk has a “Mobile Ultra” memory card range. Only up to 8GB though. Anyone using one of these? Is there a big difference in speeds?
i don't think it matters in a phone.
I ordered the eact same Mobile Ultra card today. Should be here saturday, so I will tell when I get it. But assuming it's Class 6 card, it should be fast. I wouldn't go with Class 2, since it's slow. But as Jabe says, it might not matter on the phone.
So as at now no one's using a 16GB yet?
Give me a week or 2. I'm planning on ordering the Sandisk one.
Sandisk Mobile Ultra is good, and it's what I am using for X1. Since it's class 6, the read/write speed is about 20/16 mb/s, which is much faster than class 2. If you wanna watch video storaged in card, this one is your first choice.

Note that the speed in the end is depending on the host itself. If the host is slow, even if you use class 6 memory card, it's not going to make any difference. Personally I believe the phone itself would be the bottleneck and not the memory card.
I know it's not totally relevant but just for reference, take a look at the link below. As you can see the speed of class 2 and 6 are pretty identical as it's limited by the host. This is even with a dedicated memory card reader. Compare the 2nd and 4th entries from the bottom.

If that's the case, what's the optimal speed supported by X1?
So anyone able to compare the 2 classes

I'm using a 16GB Class 2 at the moment. No probs with apps or music. But I have no videos on the card...
with normal sd cards the pdas were mostly not able to transfer as fast as the sd card supported
as the sd interface in onchip and not that fast
would like to see some tests if the same hold true with newer pda's and class X microSD cards
anyone able to follow this up yet?
I'm using a Sandisk 8gb Class 4 HC. No problems with speed or data read/write (on the phone itself).
Using the phone as a disk drive though (not activesync) is noticeably slower than using a USB adapter, *suggesting* the phone itself is the bottleneck?
I'm using a SanDisk 8GB Class II Card and I had no problems with photos, videos or music so far.
Don't think a Class 4 or 6 is worth the price in a mobile phone.
I got my 16GB Microsdhc today. And everything works. Sad thing is it only shows 15GB.
I find no difference in speed between my 8G class 6 and 16G class 2 (both from Sandisk)

it's 15G probably because of the way how "G" is being calculated. 16,000,000,000 = 16,000,000,000/(1024*1024*1024) = 14.9GB
im using a 8g class 4 card, music, apps and vids work great.
just a quick question, the x1 has a sd card limit of 32g, when a larger card comes out like the 128gb card that sandisk has said will come out, could windows mobile have a update so that it can read it or is limited to the reader hardware inside the x1
I have 2 cards: Sandisk 16GB Class 2 and Kingston 8GB class 4.
I use Sandisk in Xperia, and the speed is more than sufficient. It reaches 12-15 MB/s writing on USB adapter. Reading - it's no problem reaching even more. So it's ok, speed wise.
I don't think you would need more speed in Xperia )
There's no HD video recording option in there )
one can use pocket mechanics to benchmark the sdcard speed
if the results are lower i would suspect it show the bottleneck speed
of the sd interface of the qualcomm cpu in x1
I have a 16gb micro sdhc and some .avi videos lag (highish quality). Specifically, top gear season 12 episodes from finalgear.com. it might be the divx client though, Im using the WM 6 Pro version available on the divx website.
I am considering to buy a 16gb class 6 microSDHC card, would that be an overkill? (not the size of course, Im going to put a lot music etc, but would class 2 or 4 speed be enough for it?
Thanks in advance,
zazafci
will the 32gb mirco sd class 2 be fast enough to run apps off the sd card without problems?? or should i sacrifice size with speed and get a 16gb class 4 or 6?
yes its plenty for this handset. many many many people already have theses cards in the droid and the evo and all have had much success with it.
Works fine for me.

I use a class 10, to reduce the current draw. If I were to run it a maximum speed it would be limited by the heat it would generate. So in affect it would be limited by the current it consumes. Not talking about leaks, but overall. Slower sd's are also limited the same way but consume their limit at slower speeds. Since the faster cards are limited (maxed) at higher speeds they consume less at slower speeds, because they are rated at uamps/read/write.
Engadget posted about a class 4 just the other day, due to my post count I can't link. But kingston does have one, even though it's much more expensive. If you're running out of room I would suggest only keeping vital media files with you, and using subsonic to stream anything else.
i wanted the extra space so i can use the phone as an ipod since my zune crashed
Class two is damn slow, I did in fact notice a good speed jump with my class 6

Got my 16gb on eBay for around 28! It is probably class 2 but I don't care lol
I bought one of THESE class 6, 16gb microSD cards, and it seems to be pretty good. No problems so far.
I'm using a class 2 to run apps off of and its plenty fast (also cause im to cheap to buy anything better lol)
Yeah class 2 should be totally fine

tkirton recommends at least a class 4 for Dark Tremor. My G1 would crash on anything less than a class 6 when running apps2sd but that phone is a bit inferior to this one. Not sure if Google has a recommendation for Froyo a2sd.

CENTON 16GB CLASS 6

I got kingston 32Gb micro sd card for less then 40 on ebay from us seller it is class 4. It reads at 9mbs and it write speed is at 4 mbs.

For those of you who have upgraded your SD cards: what class of SD card do you have? Is it worth the extra money to get anything other than a Class 2 card?
I stuck with the class 2. I read the more expensive class is more suitable for capturing hd video. I don't do alot of that, I got my 16gb class 2 to store movies.
Samsung Vibrant using Bionix 1.9.1 w/JACs UV/0C v1.1
I have a 16gb card labeled as a class 4 (and priced as such), but it performs like a class 6.
I got it because I was expecting to use Apps2SD at some point in the future and it makes a HUGE difference there.
The stock card is a class 4. I had an 8 GB class 6 from my G1 days that I opted to use instead. Class speed matters, but you need to debate how much read/write are you doing with your SD card. Thankfully the Vibrant has a lot of internal memory too.
The higher the class the more rapid the data transfer. But a reputable, like Sandisk class 4 will outperform a "Joe's SD Co." Class 6 in my experience. I was running a2sd on my G1 with the stock class 2 and I had time to make a sandwich while waiting for apps to open, better result with a class6. Also when transferring large amounts of data between PC and device it will significantly cut down the time.

Class 6 16 gig
have a class 6 16 gig I use alot for data storage fro my work. I have found the Kingston class 10 is slower than this one, read/write speed DO matter if you use it alot, and I do. Silicon power is releasing a class 10 16 gig when I get one Ill report back it benches and see if it meets the stated benches it is claiming
I recently picked up a 32gig MSD for my Evo as I kept running out of room on the 16gig card. I went from a 16GB Class 6 to the latest Class1 or 2 that SanDisk has. My phone takes around 3 minutes to boot now at best. Looking at gallery or anything like that is SLOwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. If you are thinking about and have lots of pics/videos and use App2SD like I do, you will only be disappointed in the end results with the Sandisk card. Just sharing so others can save and wait for a real card.

Interesting...I have a 32gb sandisk class 2 card that is 3/4 full and I have very little if any delay...I only have 8.19gb space left.

I have 11 gigs left at current and the only change I did was this card and I can say that performance of the gallery and boot time has severly suffered from what my old card gave me.
the lower the class number on the card, the slower the transfer rate. So your 16gb class 6 may have less room, but its way faster than a 32gb class 2. Dont know if this helps or not.

+1. I switched from the Class 2 8GB card that came with it to a Class 10 16GB card and the differences are staggering. I never benchmarked my class 2, but I get around 17.8 Mbps read/write on this one. On my 8GB card it would take about nine minutes to transfer a movie from my phone, now it takes under a minute.
that isnt always true that cards are just slower. The class system is a min spec system meaning they have to atleast hit this to make it they can be well over it depending on the chip used
Most people benchmarking the San disk 32gb cards are finding them to perform closer to class 4 then the indicated class 2. Check out the thread in the accessory section. Perhapse your card is defective.
Sandisk. The Yugo/Walmart of the mem card world. None of the pro photographers that shoot digital that I've met will even touch them.
