Error 170 while unrooting - Hero CDMA General

Hi all,
Trying to unroot my Hero. I have the fresh 2.1 on it and would like to go back to the sprint 1.56 release.
I have tried going into fastboot USB and I still keep getting the error 170 error.
No matter what I seem to try I keep getting the 170 error.
I have HTC Sync on the computer. I also have Fresh Kitchen installed.
If it matters, I am using windows 7 x64
Does anyone have any ideas what I can try next?
Thanks
Dennis

Found an old Nandroid backup that I had saved and loaded that. Was able to revert back to 1.5

Hey, I ran into the same problem, and couldn't figure out why. I tried just about everything, (enabling advanced networking), etc...but I ended up hard spl'ing and now I never have any issues flashing. I would recommend doing that first. If you have any questions about it, just pm me.
ERROR 270
I have the same error - I have tried to flash it again and I still get hte same error... I erased the Flash Center directory, tried to use the old one - the one I flashed OT 5.3... But I still get the error - actually with the old flash center everything seems to go correctly but ultimately o reboot, OT5.0 is on not the new one!!!
Any other suggestions?

are you using the USPL flash center or the HardSPL flash center. If your phone is not HardSPL'd you shouldn't try to use the HardSPL flash center for it. Conversely, if it IS HardSPL'd, you shouldn't use the USPL flash center with it

Here is a link to the error codes. Your error means you need to go back to SSPL before you can flash that ROM.

You are still using the original SSPL (Soft Second Program Loader) which will only accept official update ROMs.
In order to flash the custom ROMs available here, you will need to flash in a HSPL (Hard Second Program Loader).
I don't know if you are totally new to flashing ROMs or not, since you didn't say and your post indicator said that was your first post here, but I would advise you to be very, very careful. In the early days (last month, actually) a TON of people were bricking their phones because they accidentally downloaded the European ROMs for the 512Leo. Ours is the 1024Leo and only ROMs designed for our phones will work.
The phone I am using is actually a replacement from TMO. I was having issues with the original device I purchased.
How do I use a HSPL or whatever... I am slightly confused but I can catch up quickly...
Thanks.
same thing happened to me, what i did was i restarted the update without disconnecting the phone from the computer, and it worked.

I encountered the same problem and it appeared that my computer was slow in "re-recognizing" the phone. For some reason, it had to reinstall drivers before continuing with the update. After the device was again recognized, I restartde the update (without disconnecting the phone) and it continued without issue.
I had been worried that the phone had become a paperweight when I saw the tricolor screen, but everything has been fine and the upgrade appears to have worked correctly.

Think of HSPL as your BIOS (it isn't, but it may help you to think of it as such). You don't have any control over the options, but you need it to load or install your OS. Installing HSPL is simply a matter of following the directions in the link that I posted last time: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614
Once you have HSPL installed, you should be able to "flash" any ROM. Of course, this also allows you to flash ROMs that are not meant for your phone, so that's the danger behind it.
When you visit a thread that offers a ROM, it should either have instructions or a link to instructions on how to install. If it does not, a google search for "xda how to install a custom rom" should give you a million helpful links. (This is actually beyond the scope of this post so I won't go into details)
Hope this helped some...

just for kicks did you try a different ROM, find another ROM that is Compatible and try it, not saying there is anything wrong with Dutty's , but could just be the download , but not sure since you tried stock too ...
You may need to reinstall HSPL3, if you tried to flash a stock rom, and even if it failed it could have removed HSPL ...
Also try plugging the USB cable into the back of the machine
error 260 1024hd2
Hey guys,
I am having the same issue although I may know the answer but not sure how to fix it. Prior to flashing chuckyRom, I installed HSPL but I don't think I installed the correct version (still worked). So does anyone think this entire problem is attributed to initially installing the wrong hard SPL. If so, how can this be fixed? android is running great on chuckyRom but it would be nice to use a rom that is used for more than running android.
Please help, I have been in misery trying to solve this for over two weeks now.

Error 260 during ROM update
I had the same problem and tried everything (?)
Finally I got it work.
After I started the update the first time, I got the message, driver was not installed successfuly ...blabla
I ignored the message, tried and the connection disconnected every time again.
At the end I used another usb port and it asked me to download the CDMA driver. After download and installation, the update was in 5 min. done

First time flashing the radio and kept getting error 260 from CustomRUU.
Read so many threads and all say sync the phone with your PC and run CustomRUU. Nobody said to run it under BootLoader Mode.
This simple note helped a lot for a newbie like me.... thanks

Problem flashing back to Stock 2.1 Rom

Hello guys,
I am trying to flash back to the sprint stock 2.1 rom (using the sprint RUU)...I'm currently on Fresh 2.1.1.
Everytime I run the current Sprint RUU I get some errors... see attached images
I am trying to sell my hero and I need to flash back to stock!!!
For the love of God, Help me someone
Thanks in advance
not exactly sure
my vote goes to flashing another ROM and trying again, or maybe you need to turn off debugging mode, or if its on, try turning it off and running the RUU again...
Let it error, close ruu. Leave the phone alone and re run ruu.

Thanks for the help guys...
This is how I finally fixed the problem... I used another computer that had Windows Vista 32bit and it worked beautifully.... The other one had Windows 7 64 bit, so I guess it was a drivers issue...
Anyways, thanks again for the suggestions, my Hero is on the market

170 USB Connection Error

Hi, I am trying to install official RUU 2.73.405.38 over official 2.73.405.5. At the beginning the phone syncs with HTC Sync but then when i run the RUU i get the msg 170 USB Connection Error. Phone is not rooted. Any clues to solve the issue?

I'm seeing the same thing with my (rooted, recovery flashed and radio flashed) hero. Plugging in the hero yields a green sync icon, running the RUU turns it gray until the update fails and then the icon turns back to green...
Edit: I removed the drivers (and driver files), rebooted, reinstalled HTC Sync and re-ran the RUU without running the HTC Sync application first. This enabled it to talk to the device just fine. I suggest that you quit HTC Sync and try again.
On another note, the update I got wanted to upgrade from 2.73.405.5 to 2.73.405.5 which seems a little pointless...
Mine keeps doing this no matter what I do.
I have Kimera 1.7 on it right now, but I want to go back to the stock one.
Anyone have any idea what I can do? I tried uninstalling HTC sync and reinstalling it again, but still nothing. Rebooted after uninstalling. No HTC sync running.
I have windows 7 and can't get the RUU updaters to work. I use a XP VMware box to boot.
So you say that if I use a vmware with windows xp it works?
Edit: I just tried with a Windows XP VMWare and it worked like a charm
I know this is a bit of a late post but may help someone out i just flashed a sense rom then ran the ruu anfd it worked fine
hey will it work with any sense rom wich one did you use

Yes it will work on any sense Rom because sense Rom support HTC sync
boatloader
the ideea of this error is that when the app says "rebooting to boatloader" the phone does nothing is clockwork the reason?it seems logical...

Radio 2.x non-root DI return

I recently updated my radio from 1.x to 2.x in the quest to improve my reception. However I will be going to return my DI to VZW soon for a replacement (since they believe that my phone is deflected). Do I need to downgrade my baseband back to 1.x or is it still in good shape for return?
My DI is not rooted.
Thanks for any response.
You should be fine but it wouldn't hurt to be safe
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Do you know how I should start with that?
Since my DI is not rooted, I guess I would start with the file RUU_IncredibleC_Verizon_WWE_1.22.605.2_Radio_1.00.03.04.06_hboot_0.79_release_161494_NoDriver_0514.exe and skip the hboot thing step.
Correct me if I am wrong.
I tried the method that I suggested above. I have this USB error problem.
At first, the process went smoothly. The utility detected my WWE, and then it reboot my phone. Then I got the ERROR 171 USB Connection problem, then later I kept getting ERROR 170 USB Connection problem while the utility was trying to verify my phone. The only fix is to removed/reinstall HTC Sync and driver, but then I got back to error 171, then 170 there after.
Anyone have this problem?
Basically follow the steps outlined here. It's a good idea to revert it back to the original radio.
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-incredible/123816-how-revert-back-earlier-version-hboot.html
After half a day, I finally got it back to the original state.
I had to root my phone first using unrevoke 3.
While unrooting, my DI refused to update saying that "Main Version Older!" I tried the method in the link from UndergroundWire, but I constantly got USB error message, even with the workaround (copy files from sdk/tools to temp folder), but in the process, a file names rom.zip is generated. I only had to rename that file into PB31IMG.zip, place that file on root directory of my sdcard (fat32), then boot into hboot, and it worked (no more older version complaint).
Thanks for all the helps, guys.

I've found for RUU to work you have to install HTCSYNC and then run the RUU program again. After it's done I simply uninstall HTCSYNC and the HTC Drive (something about HTC drivers in the Wondows UnInstall screen). Make sure your phone is unplugged when you Install and UnInstall HTC Sync and the Drivers.
After HTCSync is gone the system reverts back to the modified SDK drivers, you do have those already installed I hope?
Good luck
